skin primer

If you are having issues with your foundation separating, moving or rubbing off of your nose, chin, or forehead then watch this tutorial and check your products to see if you are using them correctly.

This is the first aspect to address when having foundation application issues as it’s a quick and simple way to determined whether it’s the underlying cause of the patchiness.
If you are using your products correctly the next thing to look at is your skincare; if your moisturiser is too oily it could be causing a premature breakdown of your base makeup, if you’re of an oily skin-type then you may need to change your skincare routine to specifically target excess oil.

Using a liquid exfoliant that contains Salicylic Acid (BHA) in will help to remove any dead skin cells that build up (particularly on oily skin) and prevent pores from clogging. Using an Oil Control Primer over the skin prior to makeup will help to absorb excess oil, minimise the appearance of pores and aid the longevity of your makeup.
Paula’s Choice is a favourite skincare brand of mine - I’ve not been sponsored to mention them in anyway, shape, or form, my personal experience purchasing their products has always been positive, and I would highly recommend them.

Hello! What's a good gel moisturizer that's paraben free? I'm trying to look for one that goes well with makeup application. Thanks!

Gel moisturisers are some of my favourites, for the most part they’re lightweight, feel soothing on the skin and are great at giving hydration, who wouldn’t want a product that meets those specifications?

Illamasqua Hydra Veil

Based on your message, I can’t help think of a better product to recommend than the Illamasqua Hydra Veil Gel. It’s not 100% natural and does contain a few iffy ingredients, but it is free of parabens. This gel is designed to be used as a hybrid product, part moisturiser, part primer and can be used as part of your nighttime skincare routine or in the morning before makeup application. The gel formula mimics the refreshing hydration of water, making skin feel super hydrated and revitalized. It doesn’t feel greasy, oily, or drying and instead absorbs into the skin immediately, making it perfect for use before makeup. Tip: If you can get to an Illamasqua counter, I’d recommend doing so as most carry small travel sized deluxe samples so you can try before you buy.

Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus Gel

The moment I read your question the first product to pop into my mind was the Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus Gel. I’m a huge fan of the Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus range and this product is no exception. A lightweight, “water like” gel I’ve used this product time and time again, it provides great hydration and smooths out the skin, plus Jurlique claim it helps protect against environmental aggressors making it perfect for use under makeup,

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Detox Bouncy Hydrating Gel

A new addition to my collection, Peter Thomas Roth isn’t a brand I’ve had a lot of experience with, but I’m glad that I managed to try this product. This super light-weight moisturising gel which dries down to a matte finish so skin never looks greasy, yet still maintains a natural glow. It is one of the most interesting formulas I’ve tried and is fantastic for those prone to redness and sensitive skin as the cucumber helps to soothe and calm irritation throughout the skin. Like Jurlique this is also said to protect against damaging environmental radicals

dupes/alternatives masterpost ✨

Hey loves, this masterpost was partially requested and I’m so excited.  I recommend to do your research before buying the dupe, some of the dupes are better than others. Some brands are repeated. Here is a dupe masterpost for MAC lipsticks. Here is a dupe masterpost for liquid lipsticks. Here is a spreadsheet of Coastal Scents eyeshadows to MAC eyeshadow dupes. Most of these dupes I found online so I do not take credit for any of those but some I researched myself. This is under read more because this list is very long. :) If you have any more dupes or questions, feel free to send them in.

shonna said: What are the best primers for oily skin?

After spending ages applying your makeup and ensuring your foundation is well blended, one of the most frustrating things is shine and oil seeping through your makeup throughout the day.

The Prep

First up a primer can only do so much at combating oil and keeping your makeup on. If your skin is excessively oily you may need to look beneath the surface. Sometimes when the skin has become dehydrated and dry it goes into overload and starts producing loads of oil to compensate for any oil that it has lost (or is missing) Ditch the harsh foaming cleansers and switch to a cleansing oil (oil is attracted to oil so this will help decrease excess oil and re-hydrate your skin) and ensure you are using a moisturiser.

Yoongi Scenario: That Glow.

Request: Can you do me a Yoongi fluff where you’re a Youtuber and you’re doing a makeup tag and you do his makeup/he does your makeup and it’s just full of fluff and funny moments? xD

Genre: Fluff / Comedy.

-No I won’t do it- you heard Yoongi say when you pushed him to answer the question you had made some minutes ago.

Your subscribers had been begging you to do a makeup tag with your boyfriend, and secretly, or not so secretly, you really wanted to do it as well. You had the makeup, you had the boyfriend, but Yoongi wasn’t having it, or so he thought.

You pouted coming closer to him. -Why not?-

He sighed keeping his eyes down on his laptop to then look at you with a frown. -What is a makeup tag exactly?-

You sat on the arm of the sofa where he was sitting. -Don’t pretend you don’t know-

-I don’t- he answered and you squinted your eyes because you knew he did know but was only acting up, making himself uncooperative just to annoy you and please himself hearing you going around and about. You knew him too well.

-Alright, I will explain, again, but give me some room there- you said and he obliged moving things around, but barely, so you had to sit in the little space very close too him. He shrugged and watched his laptop but you didn’t miss the little smirk.  Oh Yoongi, him and his passive aggressive ways always made you want to laugh, or to hit him with something.
-A makeup tag is when someone ask you to do some kind of video, in this case, about makeup, so it will be us doing something with it, and after that I will tag people or my subscribers-

-Ah!- he exhaled exaggeratedly. -So that’s what it is-

You smiled leaning a bit more to him. -Yes that’s what it is, would you do it with me?-

Yoongi turned his head to you and raised his brows. -No-

You whined and slapped his arm as he laughed. -You are the worst, I wonder If I can find another boyfriend who can do things with me- you put that out crossing your arms childishly, closing your eyes waiting for his reply.

-Yah, what is that about other boyfriend?- he put the laptop away with the pile of things he had on the sofa. -Not a chance-

-No? I bet I can find the perfect man to do the makeup tag with me-

-What perfect man?- he snorted. -You have me, you don’t need anyone else- he answered smugly.

You couldn’t help your smile and he couldn’t help his despite him wanting to remain with his cocky smirk. -So that means you will do it with me?-

Yoongi turned a bit more to you, one hand going to yours, the other to your thighs. -What do I get in return?-

-My love- you answered with agyeo making him squirm and smile in embarrassment because he probably didn’t expect that. -and a wish-

-A wish you say?- he repeated putting himself together, licking his lips.

You nodded. -A wish, and of course me not looking for another boyfriend-

He frowned and pinched your thigh and you laughed. -Alright then, but I will make you work for it, let’s see what is this makeup tag thing you have going on-

Could the ELF cosmetics poreless face primer be a possible dupe for Smashbox's photo finish face primer? I really like smashbox's primer, however paying 36 dollars for it is a little too much for a college student.

I think the best dupe of the Smashbox primer is actually Maybelline Baby Skin.  Both are clear, lightweight primers that blur pores without clogging them.  I might even venture so far to say that the Maybelline primer out performs the Smashbox primer in terms of smoothing the skin to perfection.

Maybelline Baby Skin Face Primer - $6

Hope this helps!

#1 Hey Kosmo! I am a big fan of your sims. I don’t have tumblr, but have been following you for several years now. I need some advice girl. I have been using Ephemera’s Natural tan + skin to make some grey-scale dark-skinned sims. They look great in CAS. However when out of CAS, I can literally see none of the details I’ve worked so hard on. What is going on?!? Is this game lighting issue or a skin issue? I’m thinking maybe this skin has too low of a contrast.

Ello Nonny! First of all I want to say thank you for following this Trash Sims Blog of mine lol 💕 Finding grey-scale dark skin is really hard and its easier to just lower the color saturation in GIMP/PS. Coming out of CAS, you have to make sure dark skin has a decent enough lighting because EA sucks at lighting dark things in The Sims games. It also helps to have your detail settings on high and have an HQ mod. Second, Sorry this took so long to answer. I ended up being rather busy the past few days but this post you made has just inspired me to do something of a general WCIF for Black Sims CAS CC basics (stuff that isn’t just hair). Specifically for Dark Skinned sims because its hard to find and I get a lot of questions about it. So without further ado:

Kosmo’s Genereal CC for Making Dark Skinned Sims:

First is Skins. Skins are usually what help shape and make a sim. That definitely is true for dark skinned sims. These are some of the skins that get dark and keep their detail or are made specifically to work for dark skinned sims that I keep in my game.

Next up is makeup that I think helps when making dark-skinned or just ethnic sims in general since Black people have the widest variety of facial features. Things like Nose masks can help give your sim’s nose new shape if sliders aren’t cooperating with you. And face highlighters are essential when it comes to dark skinned sims because without them, their face lack the natural looking shines and reflections that appear on them in real life. They’ll look flat and monotone in color which is just plain weird honestly. I also listed my favorite lipsticks that can get dark enough to match dark skinned sims.

A Few Slider Suggestions ^_^ I HIGHLY SUGGEST just going through OneEuroMutt’s Sliders in general. They have a lot of them and they’re very useful for sim making diversity

I hope this helps you guys some and I might add on to the list as I’m constantly discovering better ways to create and tweak my sims lol 💕 Sorry for any typos, I’ll fix them as I see them.

My thoughts on boosting

I’m sure most, if not all these tips have already been posted by someone else. But I’ve seen some boosters panic because of the growing popularity of the ‘white death cubes’ on pallets, so here’s what I boost.

-highlighters. It’s 2017, highlighters are what’s up rn and some are smaller than the palm of your hand, retail for $30.

-lippies. At $15-30 a pop, it’s not hard to make out with $100 in ya pocket. They’re so tiny.

-limited edition cosmetics. Any kind, drug store to high end, wait until they’re no longer in stores to list online. You can get the original retail price or higher if it’s no longer available. (I’m currently hoarding the pirates of the Caribbean line)

-universal makeup. It’s hard to boost something like foundation because not everyone can use the same shade. Go for items everyone uses, setting spray, primer, even skin care.

-“fandom” merch. I discovered this while selling some of my old fandom stuff online now that I’m no longer interested in it. Hot topic is a gold mine with ridiculously overpriced trinkets. Disney, marvel, supernatural, DC, ect. Jewlery is obviously easy but clothes are great too.

-name brands. I personally find northface and PINK/VS easy but to each their own. Especially items from pink/vs boost well because you can grab half a dozen items in a trip, and they’re charging $30-$80 for some stuff!? Just keep tags if possible. Nobody wants to buy undies online if it doesn’t have a tag. (I find the silk robes from VS to be an easy item to sell)

Overall just pay attention to what’s “in” right now. Lots of people find fidget spinners to currently be a hot boosting item rn) Also pay attention to the time of year and what clothes and such will be most popular now. (Stock up if you’re able, then list when items come into season)

Try to appeal to the masses for an easy sale, aim for items in a common size or popular color.

As for the selling itself, be a good seller. On most platforms the buyers can post reviews of you as a seller, and sellers with a good score will always be the most appealing to buy from. So make sure you package your items well for shipping and get em shipped quickly!
If it’s brand new with tags, tell em! Include that in the item description as well as possibly how much it’s worth in stores.

Lastly, know the worth. Obviously you’re not gonna get full price but don’t accept low ball offers. know what it’s really worth.
I typically aim for 20%-40% off retail after shipping depending on the item total and the demand for such items. If you’re not sure how much to list it for, search for similar items and see what other people are listing it for on average.

Bonus tip. If you’ve had trouble boosting certain items, try one of these options.
If after a predetermined amount of time, something hasn’t sold or brought much interest, lower the price by 10%.
Try doing a mystery bundle. List the total value of what’s included and the possible brands/items they might receive. The price should be much lower than the value of the items since people don’t know what they’re buying, but it’s better than holding into stuff forever. (Especially successful if it includes all of 1-2 brands/item types so people can be more sure they’ll get something they’ll love. I.E.- “VS mystery bundle” or “mystery lipstick bundle”)

Good luck babes!

Beat For the Gods

Request: @itsmarshalltime98 Hey. I was wondering if I could get an imagine, and it doesn’t have to be long at all. The reader is a makeup artist on YouTube and she does a “I do my teammates makeup” series? Part 1 is Steve and Bucky

A/N: Not sure if I’ll do more than one part we’ll see.

“Hello everybody, it’s ya girl Y/N, and I am here with a couple of my teammates,” you gestured to the two men on either side of you, “introduce yourselves.”

“I’m Steve Rogers,” Steve smiled and waved at the camera. He seemed to be the most at ease between the two of them. It was probably because he was used to being in front of a camera. You thought of the various old war propaganda films, and the fitness videos that featured Captain America and smiled a little to yourself.

“Um.. I’m Bucky,” Bucky’s smile was hesitant and he seemed really nervous.

“These two lost a bet and here they are. I personally think this is an awful punishment because they are about to look beat for the gods!”

“What does that mean?” Steve asked quietly.

“It means I’m doing your make up and you’re going to look fantastic.”

“Oh no,” Bucky groaned hanging his head a little at the prospect. You threw your arms around him and pulled him into a tight hug.

“It’s going to be fine,” you assured, “my viewers are going to love you… So who’s going first?”

“I will,” Steve volunteered bravely. He looked wary, but mostly resigned. You smiled at him as you pulled out the foundation you bought with Tony’s credit card to do this. The boys had in fact lost a bet, but this was also a PR thing. Tony wanted the Avengers to appear more likeable and human since the whole mess in Sokovia. Given that Bucky was one of your more intimidating members of the Avengers it was kind of imperative that he do it. Steve and Bucky were a package deal so here you are doing their make up. You moved so Steve could sit in the middle chair.  You also moved Bucky’s chair back a bit so you could work around him. You knew better than to ask them if they had any requests, because they would only look at you like little guppies. You decided to prime Steve’s face then press a light powder into his skin.

How to Choose a Face Primer

Face primers are fantastic, and even though I don’t wear one every time I do my makeup , if I need my makeup to look last and look flawless all day I’ll use one. Don’t be fooled into thinking they are just another product to buy so brands can get more money, they are much more than that.

In short, primers are amazing products that you apply after you’ve cleansed and moisturised your skin, but before you apply any coverage products like foundation or concealer. Majority of primers are designed to help make your makeup last a lot longer and smooth over the surface of the skin so your makeup applies evenly.
