Digital comp sketch for an oil painting I’m planning. In a painting involving a lot of invention I like to anticipate most of the problems in a digital format so I can work through them at a quicker pace. Saves me a lot of headache later on. The painting is based on two small portrait photos of my great-grandparents.
Jotting down some quick ideas for a larger project. My dearest, late Engkong (grandfather) grew up in colonial Indonesia. One time he got involved in a fist fight after another kid kept throwing buah atap(a kind of fruit) at him. The next day the entire school knew about it.
Sawai is a small fishing village on the north coast of Seram, one of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands. It’s a town of colorful wooden houses and boats sandwiched between limestone mountains and the sea. There’s not a lot to do there unless you snorkel or like hiking or like me, do drawings of what’s around you.
