skate dance

Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov, World Figure Skating Championships 2011 (Free Dance)

No skimping on the grandeur for these two, oh no! Incredible detailing on Nikita’s jacket and of course on Elena’s actual tutu.

Another angle, just in case it didn’t sink in. I’m not certain how comfortable these must have been to skate in, but the effect is undeniably spectacular, so who am I to nitpick?

Grade: A+

i’m in my prime,
not withering and old.
but i refuse to play
your wicked games any longer.

i know this tether is unbreakable,
but you make me feel like i’m interchangeable.
you drew a target on my heart,
when did this become fatal attraction?

i don’t have the strength,
the energy,
nor the patience
to be held hostage by your love.

so baby please don’t despair
when i say that
i’ve found the courage to
let you go.

you were never meant to be tied down in the first place.

—  believing i could love you was my mistake, c.j.n.

if people were elements,
then we are ice and fire.

your touch is frost upon my burning skin,
my breath melts your frozen heart.
your kiss is cool against my lips,
and my heat warms you all the way down
to the tips of your toes.

and although we could complement each other,
beckon the other away from the end of polarity
to come and meet in the middle,
too much of one

will eliminate the other.

—  and i’d never forgive myself if i caused your destruction, c.j.n.

Thanks to his dance training, Yuuri is actually incredible at improving on both the ice and the dance floor. Once Victor learnt about it, he convinced Yuuri to improv routines with him in their free time - which mostly ends up with lots of giggling and cuddling on the ice, but sometimes will result in something totally outstanding that they work into an official routine.

Guys we need to stop thinking of Victor and Yuuri as good for pairs skating. They can’t be competitive pair skaters. Why? Because Victor is strong but I don’t think he is strong enough to throw Yuuri up into the air multiple times a day. Old man would probably throw out his back.

NOW, what we should be talking about is Victuuri as ICE DANCERS. No throws, just lifts, much more manageable. Plus ice dancing focuses so much more on artistry and being in sync with your partner. It can be very romantic if you want it to be. Plus, I bet their twizzle sequences would be lovely.

If you don’t know the difference between pairs skating and ice dancing, hit up the good old YouTube and see what I’m talking about!

Stoned love

Stop messing round with that fire,
Living like love is just a gun for hire,
Cos one moment its just messing round,
To your wiki saying she’s your spouse,
Oh but its not just girls,
Cos yeah one moment I was tearing off her blouse,
Now she says she’s living in my house,

Babe I know you said you’d never smoke pot,
Its just; that burned Like your first splif,
Now we just hanging around in the dark, you’re pale as a ghost.
Stop messing round now, cos am too stoned,
You’re know I can’t save you cos in this game am too gone,

She’s only seventeen, and thinks at sixteen am all there is,
But a degenerate kind, baby am definitely not what you need,
She wants to dance with devil, Mr brownstone is just grave,
Oh Y’know the drugs will drown her out, just too young,
Can’t believe this is my life, smoking and fucking in the back,

University/college headcanon

Yuuri studied dance at college. It worked really well alongside his skating training, he challenged his body in different ways and learned about artistic expression in, effectively, multiple languages. He was pretty eclectic in his choice of classes - he definitely did ballet, street, latin and pole, and might have tried to fit in a couple of others if he had time, or just had a try with Phichit for fun. If he’s drunk or happy enough, Phichit can persuade him into a duet.

At the time of the first series, Victor has never been to college or university. By the time he was the right age his career was skyrocketing and he needed to focus on that alone, though he always took a couple of books everywhere he went, just for inspiration and trying to stay sharp. He’s always wondered what he missed out on, and when he fully retires from skating it seems like a good new path to go down. He decides to do a distance learning course in Modern Foreign Languages, as he likes foreign languages, and can apply his love of constantly hunting for symbols, themes and new ways of expressing feeling to the novels and poems he reads.
