How to become a model + model requirements

First of all, please remember that the thing with Victoria’s Secret is they only hire models who are already signed with prominent agencies and have had a successful career in other parts of modelling. This means that aiming to be a Victoria’s Secret model is pointless unless you are willing to put in the effort to preferably become a successful high fashion model first or a commercial model. You cannot just walk into a Victoria’s Secret casting you must be invited so prioritise your goals because you will not get Victoria’s Secret overnight.

Industry Requirements

Commercial Modeling:

5’6 to 5’11

Editorial / Fashion modelling:

5’8 to 6’0

90lb- 120lb or 41 to 55 kg

(This can vary due to fat and muscle weighing different amounts)

Plus-Size modeling:

5’8 to 6’2

Size 10-18 (USA)

Size 14-22 (AUS and UK)

Size 42-50 (EUROPEAN)

How to become a model

Look the part

- Fit into the requirements above

- Have clear skin, clean and shinny hair, be well groomed

- Work out- this will help keep your body and mind in check.

- Eat well- this will help keep your body and skin in check

Educate yourself

- Have realistic priority’s and understand just because you are tall and pretty does not mean you will cut it.

- Know about the industry, know who people are, know who your favourite models are, know about designers and fashion week. People will ask you questions, so know how to answer them

- Be confident, know yourself and know what you want without being stuck up or rude. Make your personality a selling point

Portfolio’s and Agency’s

- Take some head, profile and body shots of you in natural lighting wearing plain, fitted clothes against a plain background and wear no makeup. These will be your polaroids

- Consider getting some professional photo’s taken and put them in a book with your polaroids and take it with you to casting’s and interviews with agency’s

Know your Measurements and Stats

- Measure your height, bust, waist and hips

- Know your shoe and clothing size

- Weigh yourself

- Know personal stats e.g. hair colour, eye colour, skin tone

- Be truthful about your measurements. Your agency will tell you if you need to change them and you will embarrass yourself and an agency if you lie

Manners Matter

- Be courteous, polite, well mannered and grateful. If someone has booked you for a job they are paying your bills and putting food on your table so to put this roughly, don’t be a bitch

- Be punctual

- Develop professional relationships with people because you never know when you might need a favour

- Take modelling seriously, do not waste anyone’s time even if you don’t plan to do it for the rest of your life

Practice, Practice, Practice

Being a model is hard work so to be the very best you can be practice. Practice your runway walk. Practice talking to people. Practice your best angles.

Losing weight with home workouts

darkskinnedfashion submitted:

 Height 5ft 8

Biggest size: 18

smallest: 6

I achieved this progress with home workouts, i’m still very body conscious and i haven’t attended a gym because of this. But this is proof that you can reach your goal at home. I went from a UK size 16/14 to UK size 10/8 in 4 weeks

I did this by eating 5 times a day with 3 being my main meals and 2 being healthy snacks. I used to eat 1 big very unhealthy meal a day, but the way to lose weight is to eat more, smaller portions and healthier.

The homeworkouts i used were the insanity DVD which i did for an hour then i did a hour of  #Fitnessblender  which can be found on youtube. i would then do a 10 minute video by tiffany rothe( also found on youtube) and repeat it 3 times.

I worked out 6 times a week for 2 and a half hours with 1 cheat & rest day

NO SERIOUSLY THOUGH CLOVER IS BEAUTIFUL.

SHE LOOKS LIKE A REAL PERSON NOT SOME SORTA “PERFECT” VIDEO GAME MODEL.

I MEAN SHE HAS A WEAK CHIN AND AN UNUSUAL AND STRONG NOSE AND GLORIOUS THIGHS AND ISN’T SKINNY AND HER SUIT JACKET ISN’T SUPER TAILORED FIT AND SHE’S SO BEAUTIFUL BECAUSE OF THESE THINGS. I AM SO SO RELIEVED AND SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS.

*UNHOLY SCREECHING*

It has been close to a year since i have started this incredible journey.

Total weight lost till date: 110lbs
Dress size: uk 12/14
Height: 5'10
Starting weight: 300lbs

Things that i have learnt to truely understand after a year of weight lost and 24 years of fighting obesity:

1. Happiness is a choice. You are how you feel about yourself.

2. Confidence is the most importantly thing in the world. No matter what dress size i wore, i genuinely feel that i deserve to love and love by others. I’m beautiful no matter what reflects on the scale.

3. Losing weight is to be a healthier version of me. So that i can see my children grow old.

4. Being healthy is a lifelong journey. It never ends. Cheat days are also inevitable. 😜

5. Most importantly, learn to love yourself. Because only then, you can start to love others.

Of cos still 40lbs from my goal weight and it has been really slow progress this 2 months. Now that I’m 80% recovered i hope to get on track very soon.

Goal: To be weighing at 150lbs for my wedding photoshoot in December.

Tips:
Set tiny achievable goals to keep yourself going!

Keep smiling! You don’t know whose falling in love with your smile right now!

It’s so fucked up how skewed our view of an average female body is. I went into the hospital to arrange for some volunteering and the lady asked me my size to get me a shirt to wear. I said like around a 14 (UK size) and expected her to get me an XL or something but she was like “Ok, I’ll get you a medium”. I was shocked for a minute but then remembered omg that IS the actual average, why did I expect to get such a large size?

anonymous asked:

Hello, I love your blog and book and you in general... But I was wondering, I am an AU size 12 (US 10, I think) and i always feel too big to be goth... Am I? Is there such a thing?

::sputters incoherently::

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO BIG TO BE A GOTH. Or too small. Or too anything, really. Yes, shopping for gothy clothing when you’re even on the fringes of “normal” sized can be tricksy, but let me repeat: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO BIG TO BE A GOTH. Anyone who tries to tell you that are wrong, are assholes, and should be skewered with an icy stare and then pointedly ignored.

Let me put it this way: I am usually a US size 14/UK size 16/18. Sometimes I fit into a US size 12, and there have been times when I’ve been a US size 18. Am I always happy with how my body is? No. I have fights with the Body Image Demons, just like everyone. But even if I’m not doing great at body positivity for myself, I will ALWAYS be a fierce defender of body positivity for everyone else.

(Hey, go look at plussizegoth - it’s full of beautiful gothy types!)

IGNORE THE BODY IMAGE DEMONS. THEY LIE. They always lie.
