“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience:                                                this is the ideal life.”

There have been times this year where books felt unnecessary due to the increasingly familiar dystopian aspects of our changing societies, however, escaping into the pages of a good book is also a very good solution to this madness and I couldn’t recommend it more myself.

Although the spare time I have in my life has reduced this year due to graduating and finally entering the adult world of work (Booooooooo!!!) it does not mean that I have enjoyed reading any less. I’ve read fewer books this year but I’ve still read a lot of great books and competition for a spot on this list was tough. Every book on this list is one I would recommend you to read if you have not done so already, regardless of their position on the list each book is fantastic in their own right.

When I first read passenger this year I was convinced it would top my list, however, it’s been a long time since I’ve been blown away by a book to the degree I was by A Court of Mist and Fury. I might not have liked The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas, however, if this was The Great British Bake off ACOTAF is a stunning enough showstopper to still make her star baker and my favourite author of the year.

As always the list below shows my favourite quote from each book, links to more information and hashtags denoting key themes.

Weekly Round Up - December 4th, 2016

Sorry I didn’t post one of these last week - I didn’t actually finish anything due to life being life.

This weekend, I sold at a local comic con (hence the price tags being in the way) and was able to make two Mini Baymax plushies while hanging out at the table. I also finished a half done Pokeball and Safari ball but they got mixed in with the rest of my stock so they aren’t pictured here. The week before the con, I finished the Chibi Pikachus and the Chibi Eevees and wrapped up the Espeons today.

I had a successful day at the local con and met a lot of great people!

My next planned show is Wizard World Philadelphia in June and I’m already hard at work restocking and expanding my inventory. Any requests? I’ll promote more as I have more info, but I’m hoping to see some of you at the convention!

The Arrangement

Summary: in an AU where the Winchester family owns a multi-million dollar company, Dean’s in a bit of a pinch. Grandpa Samuel is threatening to cut him off if he doesn’t straighten out and stop getting into trouble. Instead of taking some responsibility, Dean comes up with an ingenious plan: find someone to pretend to be his girlfriend. You and Dean have never gotten along, but a fake relationship seems to be beneficial to you both…

Pairing: AU Dean x Reader

Word Count: 2,700

Warnings: language, general rudeness (from Dean), mild angst?

A/N: so this is my new idea for a series! It’s all my brain will do right now. It’s a little rough right now, but I’m hoping you guys like it. Also the title is terrible but it’s all I could come up with.

Perrin Mle1865 revolving rifle

Manufactured by Louis Perrin c.1873~80′s in paris, France - based on his Mle1865 revolver design - serial number 413.
11mm73 six-round cylinder, double action, side-loading gate with manual ejector rod, leaf sight, military foregrip and buckles
.
Originally presented in its prototype stage along with its handgun counterpart to the French army as concurrents to the Chassepot rifle and Lefaucheux revolver, the Perrin Mle1865 was rejected on both occasion. It was however a very popular private purchase for French officers, especially in the Army where the service pistols were still percussion designs. I doubt that the prototype carbine presented by Perrin was in a serious military rifle caliber, which might have been why it lost to the Chassepot despite arguably using superior technology.
This particular example was manufactured well after that however, since it is chambered for the same round used in the MAS Mle1873 revolver.

BRITNEY SPEARS’ ‘MAKE ME…’ WINS FUSE’S TOP 40, NAMED NO. 1 VIDEO OF 2016

After six intense poll rounds and millions of votes, fans have crowned Brit’s sexy romp with G-Eazy the top music video of 2016!

We made it to the end, guys! Fans of all the artists in our Top 40 of 2016 showed up in full force to vote for our No. 1 video of the year. This time around, the Britney Army proved just how dedicated they are to their girl by crowning the Princess of Pop this year’s winner. After nearly eight million overall votes and six exciting rounds, Britney Spears’ “Make Me…” featuring G-Eazy is officially Fuse’s No. 1 video of 2016!

When Round 1 launched in November, there were 39 other major videos competing for the title. A few weeks later, three “wildcards” came back in Round 4 for a second shot at the top. But in the end, none of them were competition for Brit and G-Eazy.

So cheers to you, Britney fans! Light some vanilla candles and order your favorite Starbucks frappuccino in honor of the pop star’s win. 👏👏

As World Cancer Day is celebrated today, so is it the 29th birthday of our Jennifer who has finished six rounds of grueling treatment for lymphoma, and has achieved amazing results with tumor shrinkage. Her attitude remains so positive, hopeful and inspiring. She finally gets a weekend away with her husband for some birthday and regular life enjoyment. We are grateful for her doctors expertise and care, and for everyone who prayed for her and sent well wishes. ❤❤❤

The Ultimate 1988 Moment

Here is the link to a poll to determine fandom’s favourite 1988 moment. Obviously this can change depending on mood and who this post reaches, but I still thought it would be fun. I’m sorry if I forgot your personal favourite moment…there were so many to include. I originally started with 32 moments and then ended up going with 64 (thus there are 32 matchups).

I think this poll will run for just under a week and then once results are in I’ll put together the next round (there will be six rounds in total to end up with our Ultimate 1988 Moment).

Round one: 64 choices down to 32 (until Saturday, January 21 at 3:00 pm EST)

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Russian Galand M1870 boarding revolver

Designed by Charles François Galand c.1868 in Paris, adopted by the Russian Navy c.1870 and manufactured by the Nagant brothers in Liege, Belgium thereafter - ship rack number 727.
11mm Perrin six-round cylinder, double action, break action with automatic disc ejector, saw handle grip and reins trigger guard.

I love the era in which you had “boarding revolvers”.

Previously on trek-rarepair-swap...

It occurred to me that other people might benefit from the fond trawling through our archives I’ve been doing. I’ve certainly found it very inspiring

In the past six rounds you have all collectively created a total of 77 fanworks

It breaks down as 48 fics, 22 pieces of fanart, five fanmixes, one aesthetic and one fanvid

There have been two Enterprise fanworks, four TOS fanworks, 12 Voyager fanworks, 14 TNG fanworks and 49 DS9 fanworks (you may, at this point, find yourself doing some mental arithmetic and worrying–dinnae fash yersel; some works appear in multiple categories)

We’ve had two fanworks about platonic relationships, five poly fanworks, 10 m/f fanworks, 33 m/m fanworks and a stunning 36 f/f fanworks (the way I’ve added these up poly works appear in multiple categories)

Our post popular ships in Rounds 1-6 have been Jake/Nog and Seven/Sarina, both of which have had five new fanworks created featuring them

Our most popular male character is Worf, who appears in 12 fanworks, and our most popular female character is Ezri, who appears in 10 fanworks.

(As of yet we have had no non-binary main characters, but an honourable mention goes to non-binary Q in @kimaracretak‘s Deanna Troi/Tasha Yar fic “and in its rush we both shall rest”)

In the hell year that was 2016, you all created 77 fanworks for others while on the barge to Rarepair Gre’thor yourselves. I couldn’t be prouder of you all.

Worst experience I've had playing Mercy was when a Rein typed in chat the WHOLE GAME "Res the Rein or it's a waste of ult" meanwhile he's dying every few seconds because he charged in. Also spammed the need healing button. At the end it was two people dead in overtime and the rest were caught in a zarya ult. I ressed who I could, died, then the tanks followed me. We lost THEN HE FLAMMED ME FOR NOT RESSING HIM WHILE I WAS DEAD. I ressed 15 people with six ults in that round T-T

Four Continents Day One

Day One of Four Continents is complete! Here’s what happened -

Ice Dance

In what is no surprise to anyone, former Olympic Champions, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada, are first after the Short Dance. A few points behind them are reigning two-time US Champs, Maia and Alex Shibutani. Less than a couple points behind them are Madison Chock and Evan Bates followed less than a point behind by Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donahue.

A couple points behind them Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Canada. Shiyue Wang and Xinyu Liu of China are in a distant sixth. In a near tie with them are Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada. Yura Min and Alexander Gamelin of South Korea are a couple points behind in eighth.

A couple points behind them in ninth are Kana Muramoto and Chris Reed. Lingshu Song and Zhouming  Sun of China are six points behind, rounding out the top then.

Pairs

In a fantastic season debut, Wenjing Sui and Cong Han of China took the short program with the second-highest score of the year - only .07 behind the score set by Tarasova and Morozov at Europeans. In second place, about five points behind are, are fellow Chinese team of Xiaoyu and Hao Zhang, continuing their wonderful first season together. (I guess the Chinese Federation knew what they were talking about, didn’t they?) About a point behind them are Megan Duhamel and Eric Radford of Canada, sitting in third.

Just over a point behind in fourth are Lubov Iliushchinka and Dylan Moscovitch of Canada. About two and a half points behind in fourth are another Canadian team, Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro. Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim of the US had a great season debut, and sit about a point and a half behind in sixth.

Cheng Peng and Yang Jin of China sit in seventh, about three points behind. About three points behind are Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier of the US, followed less than a point by another American pair, Ashley Cain and Timothy LeDuc. Sumire Suto and Francis Budreau-Aduet of Japan sit just over point behind, rounding out the top ten.

Ladies

There is a virtual tie at the time, as Gabrielle Daleman and Kaetlyn Osmond sit only .04 apart in first and second place after the short. Following is that yet another virtual tie, separated by only .36 - Elizabet Tursynbeava of Kazakstan is in third, followed by Mai Mihara of Japan. Mirai Nagasu is the highest ranked American, sitting in fifth. (I expected her to be, honestly.) She sits only about a three and a half points behind.

Only about a half point behind is Da Bin Choi of South Korea, who is sitting only about .40 ahead of Mariah Bell. Just about a point behind is Zijun Li of China. About a point behind that is Rika Hongo of Japan, followed about .40 by Wakaba Higuchi of Japan.

The Ice Dance competition ends tomorrow, along with the start of the men’s.
