me, nudging my gf at 3am: it’s pretty fucked up that people only blame lydia bennet for almost ruining her family when she was a 15 year old girl who spent her whole life with parents who were equal parts disinterested and enabling and was preyed upon by a man who was quite literally twice her age all because he was trying to get back at his former childhood friend for not letting him extort the guy’s much younger sister lydia bennet was a child klaudia a child and
“I must confess that I think her as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print, & how I shall be able to tolerate those who do not like her at least, I do not know.” - Jane Austen in a letter to her sister Cassandra, on Elizabeth Bennet
The frequent close-ups of Matthew Macfadyen’s hand are a reference to the fact that the ultimate goal of the Bennet sisters’ lives is a wealthy man’s “hand” in marriage, and a foreshadowing of the fact that Elizabeth does in fact eventually win Darcy’s “hand”.
I’m not even talking about a rebelcapain AU. I’m saying that we’re overdue for a Pride and Prejudice adaption, and Felicity Jones and Diego Luna would be AMAZING as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Maybe Daisy Ridley as one of the Bennet sisters?
Also Benedict Cumberbatch was born to play Mr. Collins. Just leaving that there.
Also John Boyega needs to star in period drama stat. Maybe as Mr. Bingley?
I can’t believe Pride & Prejudice & Zombies was criticised as an “unfaithful adaptation”. Like, you really think Jane Austen wouldn’t have written a fistfight between Darcy and Lizzie if she had been given half the chance? You think she wouldn’t have been overjoyed at the notion of the Bennet sisters slaughtering a hoard of zombies? And all of this with near direct use of the original dialogue? Did… did we read the same book?
