sims the gathering

Become a Better Sim Parent with The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack!

Gather around for a family meeting. We have some big things to discuss about the household. Why is that? Well, today we’re thrilled to show off The Sims™ 4 Parenthood Game Pack*, which releases globally for PC and Mac via Origin on May 30, 2017.

This is very exciting for us as its been a major community request, which is more, and deeper family focused game play. With toddlers finally in Simmer homes everywhere, we knew this was the perfect time to take a look at your Sim’s home to see which stories you haven’t yet told.

The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack adds a few significant features that will change daily life. Your Sim’s offspring will be more ill-behaved than ever, with rebellious teenagers and toddlers who chomp down on their siblings. But don’t worry! The new Parenting Skill gives the adults in the room a way to set these problems upright.

And it doesn’t stop there! Parenting has long term consequences, which leads us to the new Character Values Traits. If your Sims take the time to teach their children good manners, like setting the table, and trying to not burp, swear, or fart, they can grow up with new Traits that will positively affect their lives forever. Or, if they don’t do these things, well, there are Traits with consequences of another stripe…

It isn’t all serious life-changing decisions though. Children will bring home new school projects to work on after class with parents and siblings as well. These create permanent, hilarious objects, like erupting volcanoes and backyard rockets. Future medical professionals can practice their stethescoping skills on teddy bears. Plus, new clothing styles and the perfect household items to really make the home look like, well, the home of your story.

The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack is the perfect addition to your Sim’s home that will help you tell new stories that really get to the heart of your Sims. It’s hilarious, serious, touching, and silly, all in one home shaped box. Be sure to check out The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack on PC and Mac via Origin on May 30, 2017.

Yandere Simulator Gathering (Day 1)

So, I attended a very special gathering on Day 1. The goal: take pictures of cosplayers. But there was another objective for going: hope that Yandere Dev shows up. Allow me to show you my results:

Yup, I got to meet @yanderedev. In person. I also knew he was going to be wearing that shirt.

Not only did I get to meet him, but I was the first person ever to ask for his autograph and the first person to receive it. It was a very special moment for me and everyone else in attendance. Yandere Dev, if you’re reading this, I’d just like to say thank you again, for showing up and taking the time to talk to us. Now I’ll move on and share with you the photos of the gathering.

This was the risk I took to go there.

How The Sims 4 Get Together’s Clubs Let Sims Break the Rules

Sims have autonomy in The Sims 4, which is a fancy way of saying they do their own thing when you let them. First, they’ll try to do whatever they physically need (like eating or sleeping), then, they’ll do what their Traits tell them to do (like being Flirty or Mischievous). Clubs allow you to create new rules for Sims that supersede the logic they typically follow.

Getting Together

When you create a Club in The Sims 4 Get Together, you can pick their preferred hangout location, choose what they wear when they get together, and decide who is allowed into your Club. However, Clubs are much more than just groups of Sims – they’re groups that will follow a set of guidelines set by you, which works extremely well with a simulation-driven game.

Should the Fitness Crew meet at the Gym, or work out in the middle of the town square? Should Sims in the Child life stage be allowed in? Should only children be allowed in? What about their outfits? Typical workout attire, or formal wear? You can encourage them to be mean to the Romance Club, or get romantic with the Misfit Club.

But here’s where it gets really cool: once your Sims are together with their Club (or what we refer to internally as a Club Gathering), they can act against the things they’d typically do if the rules of the Club dictate it. Characteristically peaceful Sims might start a brawl if they’re in a Fight Club, and shy Sims could end up being amorous if their Flirty Club encourages it.

These rules will only supercede behavior when your Sim is in a Club Gathering.  When we first started out, we wanted the Club rules to apply all the time. We quickly realized that if this was the case, Sims’ lives would be overrun by Clubs and the Sims normal behaviors would never shine through. They’d also run into problems with rules from different Clubs if they clashed, keeping them in a constant state of conflict. What if my Sim is in one club that loves to watch TV and another club that hates it?

Besides spending time on making sure the rules worked, we also burned out a lot of markers doodling on the whiteboard to make sure you were able to quickly figure out who around you was in a Club. The result is fairly simple, and lets you hover over Sims to learn their name and which Clubs they’re members of, and quickly scan an area to see which Clubs are having a gathering, and who is the leader of the different Clubs.

Taking Control

On that same note, we wanted to make sure those different Clubs were just that: different. We aspired to let players do anything and everything with Clubs, which actually led to a potential problem… how the heck do we even display all those choices? We have hundreds of interactions in the game, and sorting through all of them would be overwhelming. When we hit moments such as this, we fall back on our instincts as Sim players, gamers, and storytellers. We began creating hypothetical groups, normal and strange, and realized that we could group many of the choices into these different buckets and let the Sims dynamically choose specific items within that category.

For example, instead of saying “This Club likes to Kiss, Flirt, and use Pick Up Lines,” players will instead say that the “Club likes to Flirt,” which encompasses all those things. You can still get more specific, choosing targets for your rules if you’d like. Want to make a Club that likes to Fight and be Mean, but only to members of a specific other Club? You can do that!

Your Clubs can have 10 rules total (5 encouraged rules and 5 discouraged). We’re still tinkering with that number, but we think we found the sweet spot. If your Sim had 20 things they were trying to do, you wouldn’t be able to tell that they had a unique behavior. At that point, they just look like… normal Sims. This number lets you create unique Clubs that’ll lead to Sims doing things that will stand out and read as different and interesting.

Your Clubs, Your Rules

We want players to create Clubs for anything and everything they love doing in the game. From making a creative club that enjoys painting or music, to a Service Club that hilariously comes over to your home to fix and clean things. Players will be able to create any Club that fits their play style, and play any way they like – we think that the way these Clubs change the day-to-day gameplay of The Sims 4 creates incredible possibilities.

Thanks for letting us share a little more information on Clubs, and we look forward to telling you even more about them when we get closer to the release of The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack in November!

Qael and Rael Dethowa:

Born to Yoth and Yek Dethowa of Saturn. The two twin girls of Yoth and Yek grew up knowing they would one day fight for the right to take over the role of Empress from their mother, Yek. Though throughout the years, the girls became close, too close to fight for such an honor. So, when they became of age, they both set off into the universe to find their place and ended up ruling the sister planets, Neptune and Uranus. Though they live on two different planets, they are surprisingly similar. Some say the twins aren’t twins at all and are actually clones. This would explain their oddly similar thinking, ruling styles… scars, though this has yet to be proven.

They have ruled their planets for over four decades, and as a result, the reddish hair they were born with has turned blue, to match their new empires.

They will be attending the Academy Formal as Neptonian and Uranian representatives, but also as a part of the Saturian Royal Family.

For fairsteadsims Academy Formal :)

New Community Blog: 15 Reasons to Get Excited for The Sims 4 Get Together

The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack comes out worldwide the week of December 7, which means players all around the world will be able to explore Windenburg, customize and join Clubs and try out the new DJ and Dance skills.

But there’s even more stuff to talk about in this expansion pack. Here are 15 reasons we are excited to get together.

Take care of household chores during a Club Gathering. When Sims enter a Club Gathering, they’ll start doing whatever the Club rules tell them to do. So if you tell your Club to garden, repair things, clean things, and cook… then that’s just what they’ll do if you invite them over and start a Gathering. Trust us, they’ll have fun.

Explore haunted locations. There are some wicked ghost happenings in Windenburg. Visit the Von Haunt Estate to learn and see the goings on of the old couple who died among the hedge maze, or head to the local pub for Ghost Night (it’s like Ladies’ Night, except with more ghosts, but… you likely figured that out already).

With Clubs, you’ll be able to lead groups of Sims in a Gathering, where they’ll follow Club rules, do Club activities, and react to situations in the ways their Club suggests. Sims in a Gathering will even break their own rules in favor of keeping in line with the Club’s rules.

You’ll be able to join a pre-made Club, like the food-obsessed Upper Crusts or the stylish Paragons, but you can also create your own! Here are all of the ways you can customize your own Clubs.
