similarly different

ASL is a language

American Sign Language and other signed languages are languages. It’s important to respect them as languages.

ASL is not English. It is a completely different language. Similarly, signed languages aren’t all the same. British Sign Language is completely different from ASL.

Signs are not universal, any more than spoken words are universal. The meaning of a sign isn’t always obvious just by watching; many signs are completely arbitrary.

Sign is not pantomime, and it’s not ad hoc gesture. It’s also not like symbolic gestures that are sometimes made up to accompany kids songs either. It’s a language, with all the complexities of language. The difference is important, and it needs to be respected.

In order to know what signs mean, you have to learn them. (Just like in order to know what spoken words mean, you have to learn them.)

ASL is not just gestures, any more than spoken languages are just sounds. ASL has grammar, vocabulary, and culture. It’s important to respect this and not erase it.

Post 25:Korean Adverbs - To what degree/How much

When adding these types of adverbs to sentences, no particle needs to be attached. While other adverbs can be placed anywhere in a sentence, adverbs like this that indicate a degree to which something is done, are typically placed immediately before the verb, e.g:

친구 자주나요 = I meet my friend often
많이었어요 = I ate a lot of food
바로 갔어요 = I went home immediately

Many of these words are just transferred from their adjective form to create an adverb. A lot of adverbs in Korean are simply made by adding 게 to the stem of the adjective:

쉽다 = easy> 쉽게 = easily
비슷하다 = similar > 비슷하게 = similarly
다르다 different > 다르게 = differently

Adjectives that end in 핟 sometimes are changed into adverbs by changing 하다 to 히

조용하다 = quiet > 조용하게/조용히 = quietly
안전하다 = safe > 안전하게/안전히 = safely

And some adjetives are changed into adverbs in a different way, but they are very similar still

많다 = many > 많이 = many/a lot*

빠르다 = quick/fast > 빨리 = quickly

많은었어요 = I ate a lot of rice
많이었어요 = I ate a lot of rice.
거리 안전하게넜어요 = I crossed the street safely
행복하게았어요 = I lived happily
바로났어요 = I left immediately
친구 목요일 자주나요 = I often meet my friend on Thursday

marching band + tickling
  • person A needs to work on standing at attention but can’t because person B keeps tickling them
  • “you can’t stay on the drum major podium forever; when you get down here i’m so gonna get you”
  • A being acutely aware that their band’s shakos have feather plumes, and B eventually notices A’s fixation and uses it to their advantage
  • “the new members are so tiny and cute and oh what they’re ticklish too? that makes them even cuter”
  • A doesn’t feel like practicing their instrument but B tickles them in order to make it happen
  • A using their drum sticks for pure evil – as in, for poking B in their sides
  • “it’s so cold tonight and these gloves aren’t enough so i’m gonna stick my hands under your armpits for warmth and wait did you just giggle?”
  • A is in color guard and whenever they lift their flag over their head, B always seems to be there to tickle their vulnerable body
  • “i’m going to tickle you until you admit that the brass section is better than the woodwinds”
  • post-performance; A is upset about a mistake they made on the field and B knows the perfect way to cheer them up
  • A taking off their shirt on a particularly hot band camp day, and B taking advantage of the newly exposed tickle spots
  • “for every day you don’t have your music memorized, i’m going to tickle you for one minute”

I wanna talk about the fight sequence towards the end of “Similarly Different” for a bit here…

This is one of the more brutal action scenes Transformers RiD has delivered so far. Up until now combat has mostly been a fun cap off to each adventure with the team finding creative ways to incapacitate their foes. In this episode, there’s no dialogue, jokes or trash talking exchanged between the two once blows start being thrown. The overall stakes of the fight feel extreme. There’s a lot of full body contact with hits/attacks being displayed rather than cut away from. Both Dinobots are thrown around causing non-comedic environmental damage while grimacing in pain. As depicted above, Grimlock has his jaws around Scowl’s head at one point.

With the lack of talking, the elevated violence, and the return of Grimlock’s Jurassic Park-roar (heard briefly in the first two episodes), you’d think the tension here would be Grimlock giving into his primal nature and becoming just as violent as Scowl in order to win. After-all, the whole episode dealt with Grimlock’s happiness at being able to destroy at will when away from his team… But “Similarly Different” doesn’t walk that path. Rather, Grimlock is in control; this is him using his strength to its full potential to wear down a difficult opponent. And when it is evident Scowl cannot be conquered by brute force, Grimlock changes tactics on the fly with his speech and fountain-ornament attack.

It’s a great character moment for Grimlock; displaying his loyalty, a pleasant amount of intelligence, and general emotional fortitude. But also brings up the fact that Grimlock is in fact capable of even more ferocity and focus on the battle field than we’ve seen previously. Is this fight with Scowl him coming fully in control of his combat abilities? Or, perhaps… has Grimlock been consciously holding back during past fights so as not to risk his opponents/the area’s well being?

Can you break this (가격: Price) into different structures, possible usages with the different endings? An example sentence, maybe?

가격: Price

Further examples:

  • 가격을 유지하다: To maintain the price.
  • 가격을 동결하다: To freeze the price.
  • 가격을 조정하다: To adjust the price.
  • 가격을 비교하다: To compare prices.
  • 가격대가 어떻게 됩니까? What’s the price range?
  • CD의 가격은 얼마입니까? What’s the price of this CD?
  • 가격차이가 얼마나 납니까? What’s the price difference?

Similarly, we have (value) and 비용 (cost).

가격, 값 and 비용 can all be used for the price of something. However, can be used to describe the “value” of something.

  • 그건 정말 진 경험이었다: It was really valuable experience.
  • 이건 을 매길수 없다: This is invaluable. (이건 가치를 매길수 없다.)

가격 andare pretty interchangeable, but not in all cases:

  • 이 얼마에요? How much is it?
  • 가격이 얼마에요? How much is it?

비용 refers to ‘how much’ it costs for ‘doing something’, similar to the words “cost”, “expense”, or charge”.

  • 여행 갈때 비용이 얼마 들었어요? How much did it cost travelling there?
  • 이사하는 비용은 얼마정도 들어요? How much does it cost to move (house)?

Lexa was the trees and Clarke was the sky. Lexa had green eyes and Clarke had blue ones. Lexa had brown hair like the ground and Clarke blonde hair like the sun. Lexa was born on earth and Clarke in space.

Clarke fell down from the sky to meet Lexa, and for a brief but wonderful moment, they both lived more intensely than they never did.

But then Lexa left for the sky, and everything turned upside down. Now it was Lexa up there, brown hair, green eyes, looking fondly below at Clarke, blonde hair, blue eyes. And now it was Clarke down there, looking up in space and wishing she could go back to be with the only person who had made her feel alive.

And when we observe this unconquerable distance between these two hearts, we can wonder why two lives so similarly different were destined to be that wonderfully intertwined, and why life was so unfair as to give them the exquisite taste of love and the breathtaking feeling of belonging before ripping it out of their hands.

anonymous asked:

What's your opinion on the extra nit picky criticisms for your administrator model? Do you believe that they are valid?

I suppose I’ll use this to address most of the common complaints I see. The main one being that she looks too young. Which is pretty valid. She does kinda have a similar feel to Ana from Overwatch for example, where the character is old but a lot of the wrinkles and stuff has been ironed out, making them appear younger.

What I should have done I think is to being some of the wrinklemap detail into the diffuse, and generally just have done a second pass on the shape of the face to bring it more in-line with the concept. Though I will say the Admin has never been particularly wrinkly, if you compare Makani’s portrait (which was my main reference) with the model posed similarly the difference isn’t too huge. Making her smile in the promo poster certainly didn’t help.

The second main complaint is that it looks quite removed from the TF2 style, which is fair I think. I was trying to go for a more “modernised” version, my reference for that being the catch up comic but stuff from Overwatch and such bled into it.

As for all the nitpicks, well, they are just nitpicks. I’m gonna go and update the model to hopefully fix most of them.

anonymous asked:

sure you can name stands just by looking at them. but can you explain king crimson

i can explain the way erasing time works but i’m still not entirely sure how “touching your future self” factors into his abilities or whether that’s a different ability.

erasing time works similarly but differently to the world. the idea that it’s even erasing time is probably a bad way to explain it, a better way being the iconic vento aureo line of “we are all sleeping slaves to fate.”

while dio stops time and is the only* person able to move while time is frozen, king crimson’s power instead remove’s peoples awareness and perception of their surroundings for an allotted amount of time without having them cease their actions. the best example is that if you were walking up stairs and the world was activated, your place on the stairs would be frozen and you would resume walking up them after the effects had ended. if you were walking up the stairs and king crimson had activated, you would continue walking up the stairs, and, after the effects ended, be surprised that, to your knowledge, you had teleported forward.

tl;dr: the world stops time, king crimson “erases time” but only in your own perception.

nerdy linguistics fact of the day #1

the english word ‘chauffeur’ comes from the french word 'chauffeur’. it means driver and is pronounced 'show-fur’. the norwegian word for driver is 'sjåfør’ which is pronounced roughly 'shoo-fehr’ and i think that’s the coolest thing ever.

questions about the stoll brothers & the hermes children
  • canonically connor is the smarter of the two while travis is the more mischievous. leading on from that, would connor, although younger, be widely considered the more mature brother of the two?
  • how much of an age difference do you think travis and connor have?
  • what physical traits do you headcanon the two to have similarly and to have differently from the other as brothers (the only canonically mentioned is travis is taller)?
  • besides lock manipulation, theft abilities, money manipulation, what other powers of hermes do you believe the hermes demigods as well as the stoll brothers have? are there any difference in those abilities between travis and connor?
  • what school do you headcanon the stoll brothers going to outside of camp?
  • do they live in new york city or do you headcanon them living elsewhere (where, why)?
  • there is no mention of their mother (or father for that matter), do you headcanon her alive and well or passed away and why? alternatively, is she their guardian or do they live under another guardian (beneficiaries of the state like orphans, or with an uncle or aunt, etc.)?
  • katie is often paired with travis in terms of shipping, who do you pair with connor? if so, why, or alternatively, why do you not pair him with someone?
  • romantic/sexual orientation headcanons?
  • insecurities?
  • illnesses (mental or physically)?
  • reactions to the two large battles they both fought in (i.e. ptsd, feeling lost, helping younger cabin mates through trauma, etc.)?

i need input from the fandom! you don’t have to answer all of these, you can pick and choose but like….responses would be nice! if not, please reblog to boost!

I have a strong desire to see how the dance from ATLA S3 E1 would have went if it could have been between Zuko and Katara, okay. The need is mighty.

Like seriously, imagine; (whether or not it could have happened similarly, or a lil differently, whichever) the two of them have been stifling the feelings that are under the surface. Toph takes notice, especially during some sort of party they have going at one point.
She can feel their heartbeats racing every time they shift/look at each other. And she’s had enough lately of them metaphorically or straight up confessing things to her, so she confronts Zuko and demands he make a move now, or he’ll be sorry. She tells him, as further initiative, that Aang keeps gravitating closer to her–he’ll ask her to dance if Zuko doesn’t first.

So Zuko takes the initiative. And Katara accepts.

Now. IMAGINE. It’s similar to the Kataang dance, like graceful battle, but EVEN BETTER. Bringing in lil spouts of bending, their dancing is closer, sensual, with so many undertones of sexual tension the more they get into it. The place is steaming by the time they finished.
