Anon request … I’m still not home so I’m on mobile.
I arrived home from a long day at work. I was tired and not looking forward to the pile of dishes I’d left in the sink, or my laundry or that I had no food in my fridge.
I felt bad that my boyfriend Robert had texted me earlier and I had been very short and rude in my text. I think he said ‘How are you? Do you want to go out tonight?’ and I replied with ‘work sucks and I have a lot to catch up on.’
As I entered my apartment, I thought I could faintly hear classical music playing. I opened the door to find Robert (who had a key) pulling garlic bread out of the oven (I feel like there way a post referencing Robert and garlic bread). He was wearing a silly chef’s hat and my apron.
He turned around and smiled at me with a sheepish grin “Hello love!”
I stood dumbfounded in the doorway, “Wha- What are you doing?”
“I’m making you dinner.” He said “I made spaghetti, garlic bread and salad. I thought it would help you feel better.” He turned and rummaged through the fridge.
“Ohh gosh.” I felt overwhelmed with happiness that Robert had not only overlooked my rudeness, he’d gone out of his way to help me.
“Thank you.” Came out as almost a whisper.
Robert stood up from the fridge and placed a bottle of wine on the counter. “Oh, I also did your laundry and bought groceries.” He smiled again this time broadly. “I got off work early so I figured, why not?”
For a moment I stood open mouthed and then I moved towards him and threw my arms around his neck; hugging him tightly. He returned my hug by holding me tightly.
I let a tear slip out of the corner of my eye and felt ashamed for how rude I had been. "I’m realty sorry- I was so rude earlier and then you were so nice and did all this.”
“Hey love,” he said, “everyone’s entitled to a bad day every once in a while. I know you’re under a lot of stress- so please let me be there for you. I can’t promise this every time, but I’ll always do my best to help you.”
“Ok.” I said quietly, “Thanks again.”
I was so happy. We sat down and took a few minutes to talk about our days while we ate dinner. I tried to keep my whining short, considering all that Robert had just done for me.
We quickly cleaned up the kitchen together and Robert rubbed my neck as I finished drying the last plate.
“Ahh, that feels nice.” I said, “I guess my neck got all tense today.”
“Why don’t we continue this somewhere more comfortable?” Robert said as he laid a kiss on the top of my head. He wrapped his arms around me from behind and held me for a moment.
“Sure,” I said leaning into his hug, “how about in the bathtub?”
“Sounds good to me.” I felt Robert’s lips touch my ear as he whispered to me.
