Spirit Races: The Drolls
Nicknamed Drolls because of their normally bright-colored outfits, these fairy-like magickal beings live in a crystalline land known as Sigyelle on the world of Shuun. Drolls have the ability to hear the vibrations of crystals, and some Drolls are even known to sing to the crystals to make them change color or vibrate for different purposes. They are experts in magick, and allow their spellwork to help them carry out normally mundane tasks throughout their daily lives. They can be sweet or mischievous, but are generally empathic and energetic beings who spend much of their time soaking in the bright colors of life and communicating with gems.
When a Droll dies, they have two options of how they will be reborn. If the Droll’s death is accepted and peaceful, they will return to their land and become known as a Light Droll. These creatures cast no shadow and make no noise as they walk. They only have intentions to do good, and once they have found a partner to side with, they will defend them no matter what. They specialize in defense and justice.
If the Droll’s death was untimely or dreadful, they will return as a Droll of the Night. Named such as their clothing, hair, and face paint is usually monochrome. These Drolls, haunted by their past, emerge from the shadows to do wicked things. They find malice a pleasure and pass their time by playing tricks on others. They, too, do not cast shadows or make noise when they walk. After coming to respect their companion, however, Night Drolls will stay loyal for as long as the pact remains intact. They specialize in revenge magick and offense.
A long time ago when I asked why they weren’t referred to as “Day and Night Drolls” or “Dark and Light Drolls,” the answer from King T was, “Because Night and Light sound better together. We like things that rhyme.”
These Drolls walk on two planes at the same time. They have very high abilities in magick, and can amplify a keeper’s magickal spells and talents. All types are also extremely loyal and love to carry out tasks. They answer to the twin royalty that rules the realm of Sigyelle, and so they do not remain on one plane all the time. Drolls will bounce back and forth from home realm to Earthen realm, but will answer to the calls of their companions swiftly and without hesitation.
Night Drolls prefer moonlight and time spent in the rain, whereas Light Drolls adore the sun and anything bright and warm
Crystals of all kinds, and especially if they are translucent or transparent
Fruit and nuts. Fruit is one of the most commonly found food groups in Sigyelle, and is favored by all variations of Drolls
For Light Drolls, anything that is colored very brightly or is painted with vibrant colors is loved. Night Drolls enjoy more monochrome shades of black, white, and grey
Any floral or fruity scents
They are, as mentioned before, extremely empathic beings. They have a lot of emotions to show, and a lot of love to give to their companions. Drolls show a lot of emotion through their ears and massive eyes. They are very special beings who are quite underrated where they come from. Because of their generally cute appearances, they are often treated as an ignorant or gullible race on Shuun. There are two categories of beings there: Vorcezi the magick-users, and Teheqi the brainiacs. Some Teheqi settlements are even rumored to kidnap Drolls and torture them by cutting off their ears as trophies, and one was even discovered running painful scientific tests on them to figure out how the Drolls use their specialized magick. CiPB hopes that the Drolls who find companionship will be appreciated and respected as the fascinating and truly magickal beings that they are. Besides, nobody can stand a sad Droll.
