@upthehillart brought something to my attention.

If any of you have noticed that your dashboard seems to be dead lately… or you keep seeing the same posts all the time, this is probably why:

Apparently tumblr has implemented a new feature called “Best Stuff First” as a DEFAULT setting… basically it makes it so that you no longer see posts from the blogs you follow in chronological order.

Instead you’re seeing posts that tumblr has selected that are considered “the best” or trending. Tumblr selects them (based on some sort of algorithm) and puts them at the top, while pushing the rest god-knows-where.

This is causing a serious decrease in activity for a lot of blogs, and a lack of exposure, especially for smaller blogs.

However… If you shut off this feature your dash will go back to normal.

To turn it off on mobile, go to your Account >

Global settings >

Dashboard preferences >

And there it is that sneaky bastard.

Just a heads up for everyone! *thumbs up*

Maybe if we can get enough traction, @staff will finally take it off of default and simply have it as an option instead. ))

Spooky Sounds from Across the Solar System

Soaring to the depths of our universe, gallant spacecraft roam the cosmos, snapping images of celestial wonders. Some spacecraft have instruments capable of capturing radio emissions. When scientists convert these to sound waves, the results are eerie to hear.

In time for Halloween, we’ve put together a compilation of elusive “sounds” of howling planets and whistling helium that is sure to make your skin crawl.

Listen to a few here and visit our Soundcloud for more spooky sounds.

Cassini Ring Crossing

This eerie audio represents data collected by our Cassini spacecraft, as it crossed through the gap between Saturn and its rings on April 26, 2017, during the first dive of the mission’s Grand Finale. The instrument is able to record ring particles striking the spacecraft in its data. In the data from this dive, there is virtually no detectable peak in pops and cracks that represent ring particles striking the spacecraft. The lack of discernible pops and cracks indicates the region is largely free of small particles.

Voyager Tsunami Waves in Interstellar Space

Listen to this howling audio from our Voyager 1 spacecraft. Voyager 1 has experienced three “tsunami waves” in interstellar space. This kind of wave occurs as a result of a coronal mass ejection erupting from the Sun. The most recent tsunami wave that Voyager experienced began in February 2014, and may still be going. Listen to how these waves cause surrounding ionized matter to ring like a bell.

Voyager Sounds of Interstellar Space

Our Voyager 1 spacecraft captured these high-pitched, spooky sounds of interstellar space from October to November 2012 and April to May 2013.

The soundtrack reproduces the amplitude and frequency of the plasma waves as “heard” by Voyager 1. The waves detected by the instrument antennas can be simply amplified and played through a speaker. These frequencies are within the range heard by human ears.

When scientists extrapolated this line even further back in time (not shown), they deduced that Voyager 1 first encountered interstellar plasma in August 2012.

Plasma Sounds at Jupiter

Ominous sounds of plasma! Our Juno spacecraft has observed plasma wave signals from Jupiter’s ionosphere. The results in this video show an increasing plasma density as Juno descended into Jupiter’s ionosphere during its close pass by Jupiter on February 2, 2017.

Roar of Jupiter

Juno’s Waves instrument recorded this supernatural sounding encounter with the bow shock over the course of about two hours on June 24, 2016. “Bow shock” is where the supersonic solar wind is heated and slowed by Jupiter’s magnetosphere. It is analogous to a sonic boom on Earth. The next day, June 25, 2016, the Waves instrument witnessed the crossing of the magnetopause. “Trapped continuum radiation” refers to waves trapped in a low-density cavity in Jupiter’s magnetosphere.

Hey guys: please deactivate the new Tumblr “favorites first” functionality

It might seem like a good idea but it basically gives Tumblr the power to decide what you see first. We have no idea of how that algorhythm works.

Besides, it’s already hurting artists on this website. We depend on people seeing our posts to make a living. With the new tool, many artists just don’t get seen anymore, as the algorhythm doesn’t care about that.

Maybe you think this is meaningless and you’re too lazy to uncheck the box, but remember: you’ll probably see less of new, beautiful, and interesting art/writing/crafts/anything on your dash. You’ll be lead to see only a few cherry-picked users and kinds of posts, and you don’t get to decide which. Tumblr is a tool of discovery - and you’ll be losing that ability with the new item.

By the way, @staff: NO ONE LIKES FAVORITES FIRST IN ANY SOCIAL MEDIA, BUT ESPECIALLY IN AN INFORMAL ONE LIKE TUMBLR. You’re hurting your public and people who use this to work. Take it down.

To everyone else: thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll spare 5 seconds to uncheck the box :) Also, please reblog.

Do you love period dramas? Do you want to support gay-centered media?

The Burying Party, written and directed by Richard Weston, is a film that follows the last year in the life of Wilfred Owen, a gay man whose poetry about World War I changed the landscape of war poetry and landed Owen a much deserved standing as one of the most renowned poets in all of English history.

As of right now, the film is only halfway to completion. Weston and co. are relying on crowd funding in order to get the film done, and they need to raise £5,000 ($6,585) total in order to ensure that the film is finished in time to be released on the 100th anniversary of Wilfred Owen’s death in November of next year. The campaign closes on Nov. 27, 2017. That’s where you come in.

Here is a link to their KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN, where you can read more about the project, as well as watch the trailer.

Please share the word about this project and consider supporting it if you can! Wilfred Owen was an amazing historical figure, and there isn’t nearly enough media out there actively honoring not just his poetic accomplishments but also his sexual orientation!

Australia is abandoning 816 asylum seekers.

The PNG Government is sick of Australia’s arrogance and ignorance, and after finding our offshore detention facilities on Manus Island unlawful earlier this year, warned Australia to close them.

Which Australia is… well, technically doing. But not in a way that involves them taking any responsibility for the burden they have put on the island nation, nor showing an ounce of compassion for the asylum seekers - 90%+ of whom are legitimate refugees, some of them even already certified - who came here seeking our help and instead found themselves locked up in conditions designed to deter them from fleeing some of the most horrific regimes in the world.

Instead, Australia is simply closing the camp. Electricity has already been cut off in part of the camp, as has water. Food stopped being served on Sunday, but packs were given out with enough food to last until Tuesday.

That’s tomorrow.

816 men came looking for our help and found themselves imprisoned, tortured, and now abandoned.

Demand better of our country, Australia.

  • Duke: Imagine if someone handed you a box full of all the items you have lost throughout your life.
  • Barbara: It would be nice to get my sense of purpose back.
  • Dick: Oh wow, my childhood innocence! Thank you for finding this.
  • Tim: My will to live! I haven’t seen this in 15 years!
  • Stephanie: I knew I lost that potential somewhere!
  • Jason: Mental stability, my old friend!
  • Duke: Guys, could you lighten up a little?

Hello everyone! The holiday season is coming up and it’s with great pleasure and excitement that we DAILYBNHA members open the signups for a BNHA secret santa event! We hope many of you will join us, as this will be a way to enjoy yourself, spread happiness and who knows, maybe make some new friends!

If you decide to sign up for this event you will be randomly picked to make a gift for someone; at the same time, there is someone out there who has been picked to give a gift to you and will be your “secret santa”!
After the sign ups are closed, we will make sure to match you up with someone who has similar tastes in characters/ships/etc (to make sure both you and the giftee are comfortable with the gift). The gift will have to be posted from December 24th to December 31st (please DO NOT REVEAL yourself to your giftee or post your gift before that!). Mention (@…) the person whom the gift is for in the caption and use the tag #dailybnhasecretsanta so we can track and share your gift (or directly submit it to us).

It’s very simple! All you have to do is visit the SIGN UPS PAGE. There you will find the rules and the application form you’ll have to submit to us! If you wanna join, please be sure to submit your application by November 23rd. If by any chance you change your url after your submission, please notify the admins.

Give ya Artist a Hand with school

So, guys, I’ve run into a problem I just explain what happened step by step so you know whats going.

I went to register for a class last semester but it was canceled on me without me knowing. So I went back to my advisor and he said “ it got canceled instead lets put your money onto a different class “ I said “ ok “

so then I re-registered for a history course. When I went to go pay for the history course I had no money. My money was missing. So I went back the same day and got it dropped.

BUT while he was dropping my classes he lost the drop sheet I signed so it never got into the system and never counted it as a dropped course.

I went back to school yesterday to finally drop the course I didn’t pay for and didn’t attend. But I am still required to pay for the class. I will NOT be going back to this same school after I pay this. But if I want to go to school anywhere in my district I have to pay for the class and pay for the class I’ll be registering for next semester.

Next semester registration starts next Tuesday.

It would mean the world to me if you all could REBLOG this post so others will see my print shop and hopefully buy a poster from it for me.

I only have a few things but it’s all I got atm.

I’m working on finishing my commissions so I can take on more but right now this is all I got!

Right now my parents are very pissed at me and If I can’t attend school this semester or find a full-time job within a few weeks I’ve been threatened with being thrown out.

Thank you all for reading.
