•Make or find a sigil for appearing masculine. Put that shit on ur binder, clothes tags, pictures of yourself, and anything you wear often
•Want masculine swim gear? Tell people u want swim shorts b/c they have pockets to collect sea glass/shells in. Bonus: you can now collect cool ocean things you find.
•Make or request a name sigil for your correct name. Write it everywhere.
•Pyrite is a great stone for masculine energy.
•Have a masculine smelling cologne/perfume? Enchant it to be a potion to ward off dysphoria. Spray some on in the morning and feel like a cool dude.
•Don’t have access to masculine cologne? Make some! Cedarwood, ginger, sandalwood, juniper berry, frankencense, and rosemary essential oils r magical and smell like Man! Throw in some lavender or ylang ylang for a lil flowery smell if ur into that.
•Don’t wanna call urself a witch? That’s fine. Ur a warlock now. Or a wizard. Sounds badass
•Wanna call urself a witch but ur not a girl? That’s alrighty pal, the term witch is gender neutral. Anyone can be a witch
•Carry an acorn. It’s symbolic of strength and transition. Someday you’ll be a strong oak tree
•Witchy cloaks r great for hiding hips and chests. Also pointy hats make you look taller.
•Ground yourself often, especially when you’re feeling extra dysphoric.
•Track your menstrual cycle along with the moon cycle. You’re a werewolf now.
•Draw yourself as a cool powerful masculine witch/warlock. Give urself cool magick powers like lightning or lazer eyes. Put it up somewhere only you’ll see it. Remember that you’re super powerful and stronger than dysphoria.
•Enchant your bedroom door so no girls can pass through (I’d advise making a on/off switch with this in case u want a girl in your room). Walk through your door. You ain’t no girl. Your room is Boy Town now.
•Light tree incense (juniper, cedar, arborvitae, etc) in your room. Now it smells like boy and you smell like boy, congrats. Also you’re cleansed.
•Make a self poppet. Dress it how you wish you could dress. Give it hugs. Give it hair and give it a haircut.
•Trans boy and nonbinary witches r damn cool, don’t you forget it.
What other witches do: cast circles, visualize, use expensive oils/herbs/crystals, set aside time for rituals/Gods
What I do: open the windows and blinds, set a stick on fire, scream “I aint get no sleep cuz of yall, yall ain’t get no sleep cuz of me” at spirits in my house, wave stick fire smoke in circles above my head, use a red dollar store pen to carve sigils into tea candle, throw salt at windows aka “little bitch gtfo my house boy bye”, uses 37493927 emojis in texts to significant otter for good vibes, cries on my dog to ward her and also bc she’s So Good, wines to Zeus about my Problems™, watches Friends with Aphrodite and laughs, whispers “please fix my car” to hephaestus and offers him a burnt match, stares pointedly at Hermes offerings and squints at tip jar
Once you have your sigil all charged up, and filled with your intent all there is left to do is to cast it into the universe to gain what you want, and desire. This casting into the universe can be done in two ways actively, or passively. Both of these ways have their own benefits, and setbacks, but it is important to determine which way you should activate certain types of sigils, because it changes the way the energy is released into the universe, and allowed to manifest. So we will be taking a look at both these activation styles, and when they would be most effective to use over the other one.
Active Sigil Activation:
In active sigil activation the energy is usually released all at once, or in a very immediate fashion. This is usually done through the means of destroying the sigil to allow all its energy to manifest at once. This type of activation is good for sigils that only have to be used once, or in a single situation. Sigils I would use in this activation method would be sigils for banishing, exorcising, purifying, cleansing, manifesting, summoning spirits, removing negative energy, removing spiritual blockages, removing emotional blockages, and one off curses, among many others.
Ways to activate active sigils:
Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and burning it in fire
Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and submerging it in water until it dissolves.
Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and ripping the paper in half.
Drawing the sigil in to the sand at the beach, and letting the sea wash it away.
Drawing the sigil in the air with your energy, and pushing through it in order to destroy it.
Making the sigil out of dust, or powder, and then blowing it away to destroy it.
Making the sigil in your mind, and then imagining it being destroyed to activate it.
Putting the sigil on food then eating it.
Drawing the sigil on a firework, and then set it off.
Drawing the sigil on a balloon, and then pop it.
Drawing the sigil on your body, and then wash it away.
Singing the sigil out loud for all to hear.
playing a music, or an audio sigil out loud for all to hear.
and much more…
Passive Sigil Activation:
In passive sigil activation the energy is usually released overtime through a very moderate, and controlled fashion. This is done through the means of charging a sigil, and keeping the sigil around with you, or in the area where the energy is needed for it to continuously produce its energy. This type of activation is good for sigils that are needed to continuously affect the world around them. Sigils I would use in this activation method would be sigils for protection, luck, empowerment, healing, psychic abilities, transformation, attracting energy, retaining energy, changing, and continuous curses, among many others.
Ways to activate Passive Sigils:
Putting the sigil on a piece of paper.
Drawing the sigil on your body.
Carving sigils into a candle, and lighting the candle.
Carving sigils into soap, and washing your body with the soap.
Making a sigil amulet.
Writing the sigils upon stone.
Placing the sigil as your computer, or phone background.
One of the most common messages I get on Tumblr goes something like this: “What is your process for creating sigils? It can’t be as simple as scrambling up letters, so what’s the real secret?”
The truth is, there isn’t a secret. Making sigils is actually quite simple. Anyone can do it. Even for a complete newcomer, the process should take less time than a coffee break. While there are many, many ways to create sigils — magic squares, automatic drawing, grid overlays — the methods don’t really matter all that much.
In this post, I’m going to show the step-by-step method I used for creating the most recent sigil I’ve published. It came at the request of a young woman who wanted to catch the romantic attentions of another female. It said simply: “She will see me in a romantic way.”
As you can see, I’ve gone with the most basic sigil-creation method here. I’ve written out the text, and I’ve isolated the consonants from the sentence. While there is an “occult” tradition behind this method, I wouldn’t get hung up on thinking that it’s the “right” way to make a sigil. It’s no better than any other method, it’s just easier to explain.
This first step is meant to abstract the coherent words into a less-coherent jumble of letters. The words stop being as meaningful, but the symbols behind the sigil’s intent remain. To keep things simple — and to speed up my next step — I arrange these letters into a grid.
The next step is to abstract the remaining letters even further. Here, I’ve simply started combining elements of the letters together. I generally start by picking two letters from the grid of consonants, and start combining lines, curves, curls, dots, and other pieces of those letters together.
I try to keep these new symbols as simple as possible — four or five pencil strokes at most — because I’ll be further combining them in the next step.
From here, I generally play around with a few ideas, combining elements of symbols as I go. Sometimes these ideas come easily, as seen in the picture, but sometimes it can take pages and pages of sketches to find one I like. In particularly thorny situations, I’ll even start the entire process over from scratch, just to give myself a clean slate.
Once I’ve found a design I like, it’s time to start on the final design. Much like every other stage in the process, there is no one “right” way to do this. This is also the step where most people could happily stop. When the sigil looks and feels “right” to you, it’s done. The sigil is complete, if you want it to be.
In my case, however, I’m also making art for my website and social media. That means creating a version of the sigil that will (hopefully) catch other people’s eyes. There are countless ways to do this — charcoals, crayons, digital painting, markers — and I’ve experimented quite a bit over the years.
I also like to have an excuse to play with ink and brushes, so that’s how this one came together. I like that it’s a little unpredictable — with streaks and globs and splatter — and I’m always thrilled when a happy accident improves the design.
As you can see, I create tons of variations, tinkering with brush sizes, stroke direction, the amount of ink in the brush, and other stuff. While I liked some of these versions, none of them looked quite right. So, I kept going until I found one that did.
A few ink-soaked pages later, and this version was the clear winner. From here, it was just a matter of scanning the image in and doing a few technical things in Photoshop to make it look better in black and white. I add the text, the watermark, and … that’s it.
Here’s the finished version.
As you can see, there’s no great secret to making a sigil. Nor should there be. Sigils are about focusing intent, and even a few pencil scratches on notebook paper can become a perfectly wonderful sigil with the right intent behind it. Yes, some people (like me) like to do a little showing off with things they picked up from art class, but that should never be a barrier to creating your own personal sigils.

I have an older brother, and as much as I love him, frankly, he’s an idiot. He has a fiancee, and I love the fact that my brother is so happy. However, I hate his fiancee. She’s two-faced, a narcissist, and uses him for his money. Like I’ve seen his bills. He takes her shopping and out to restaurants, and spends some serious money on her, money he can’t afford. Yet they don’t see each other even once a week because she’s “super busy with school” and I understand, I’m a college student myself, but whenever he asks her for help, she’s “too busy” to help him. Everytime she comes over, she acts like a guest rather than a fiancee. She doesn’t help clean any mess she’s made, she doesn’t help anyone with anything, she just comes in and acts like she’s fucking royalty, giving her opinions where it isn’t asked, telling people what to do, and frankly trying to act like my mother or ruler than an older sister.
Now, again, I love my brother. If he’s happy, I’m happy. But I can’t just sit by and watch as he throws his life away and marries some girl who doesn’t love him for who he is. I don’t want to break them up via magick
(casting a break-up spell), I couldn’t live with the guilt. But instead, I want him to see her for who she truly is, without the rose tinted glasses.
So @frankiezaltar and I came up with a sigil (because I’m obsessed with sigils) to help with the situation.
Step 1: Draw some glasses, could be any glasses: everyday glasses, sunglasses, any kind, but make sure the lenses are big enough to write in.
Step 2: Color the glasses pink or rose, making them “rose- tinted”
Step 3: Write the names on one lens, and the other on the second lens. For example, my brother’s name would go on the first lens, either right or left, and his fiancee’s would go on the second.
Step 4: Tear the sigil into pieces. This is to represent the “shattering” of the glasses.
Step 5: Burn the torn up pieces, because glass is made from fire, this is to undo the love that’s been formed in his mind for her. I do this step only because I know that he’ll try to use his love to blind him from reason, and try to use it as an excuse to stay with her even after seeing who she really is deep on the inside.
I understand if this seems more like a curse than a hex, and I definitely understand how it could make others feel uncomfortable to cast it. However, this is the best solution I could come up with. My opinions are my own, spare me of your opinions if you somehow regard this as wrong or whatever.
If you have any questions, please feel free to message me or @frankiezaltar if she feels up to it. Have a nice day!
There are no “must"s or "have to"s in sigil crafting. Full stop. You can do whatever you want to do. Draw ‘em how you want, use 'em how you want.
Yes, sometimes someone might say "we recommend you do this for these reasons,” but hey, that’s still advice. If you agree with it, roll with it; if it doesn’t resonate with you, there’s no reason to incorporate it into your magic. If you find something works for you, then that’s what matters. If someone else says not to do it because it doesn’t work, that’s their experience, because different techniques and methods have different results and success rates for each individual magic user. This runs true with all magic in general, but I’m focusing on sigils here.
Sigils are a part of chaos magic, in which there are no rules or strict dogma to follow. That’s the whole damn point, and the meaning behind the name; telling anyone how they have to do anything in chaos magic is completely against the point. Chaos magic is all about experimentation, finding and using new and modern methods, and gearing your craft to yourself, exactly how you want it to be. That’s it, endgame.
When you’re telling people how they *must* use sigils, it *needs* to be done that way, you’re pretty much missing the whole point of sigils, as a branch of chaos magic.
Stop telling people how they should do their magic please.
Write the sigils, chants, incantations, affirmations, etc on your arm at night before you go to bed. Your energy will activate and charge it as you dream and enter a receptive, powerful state close to the divine. ✨💜
I’m thrilled to see how sigils have taken off in the magical community, but there are three things I keep seeing in the tags that could easily compromise your manifestation.
-Use positive affirmations. Take the “not” out of your sigil. Sigils use your subconscious to manifest, and in much the same way that your first response when someone tells you “don’t look over there,” is to ignore them and look where they just told you not to, your subconscious will skip right over the “not” and fuck with your results. For example, “I am strong,” versus “I am not weak,” where “I am strong” carries the positive affirmations and “I am not weak” carries negative affirmations. Your subconscious takes “I am not weak” and crosses out the “not” and sees it instead as “I am weak,” and therefore your sigil may manifest the complete opposite of what you had intended.
-Use present tense as opposed to future tense. I’ve learned from experience to not leave room for loopholes, and using “I will” instead of “I am” leaves some room for loopholes. The phrase “I will be strong” leaves an open loophole where your sigil could start working right away as you intended it, or, in the case that the universe decides to be a little fucker as it so often does, a year from now. “I am strong” denotes that this is a thing that is happening now, so it’ll manifest now as opposed to later when it might not even matter anymore. If you have to use the word “will,” then the phrase “it is my will” may work for you.
However, if your sigil is something that you planned on manifesting sometime in the future, (“i will meet my soulmate”) then go ahead and use “i will” in your phrasing.
-Your sigil has to be charged AND activated. Not one or the other. Both. Masturbate over it and burn it. Meditate on it and tap it. There are a number of methods and combination of methods to achieve this, but it’s important that you do both or your desire will not manifest.
A sigil to keep yourself open to love of the mutually healthy and beneficial variety. It’s mostly meant to be a reminder that you’re worth love and that you deserve love. And that can be romantic love, platonic love, and so on. It makes a good talisman, or a sigil rock, or can be drawn on skin. You could wear it or keep it with you on a date or at a party!
