sigil of chaos

Sloppy magic versus calculated magic.

Neither is fundamentally better than the other, each has it’s strengths and weaknesses. Sloppy magic may be include the risk of going wrong, but usually utilizes intense emotion which is the one of most powerful things in magic. Calculated magic can lack raw power but makes up for it in being very precise and effective.

Sloppy magic is for the rushed sigil you draw on your math test that you’re sure you failed, but with your intense desperate magic, surprisingly find out later you passed with an ok mark. Sloppy magic is for emotionally, violently cursing your abusive ex to suffer endless insomnia and horrific regret. Sloppy magic isn’t ‘half assed’ magic, or ‘amateur magic’, it’s very simply neither calculated nor precise. Instead of elaborate rituals, it’s rage, desperation, elation, despair, raw love, pure joy, etc. It’s emotional magic, rushed or spontaneous magic, unprepared magic, but still just as powerful a magic calculated.

Calculated magic is making your bigoted boss lose his job by targeting his superiors, making them notice his shortcomings that they’d previously been blind to. Calculated magic is the elaborate, long thought out wards that you permanently have surrounding your home, with intricate sigils and laboured over energy grids. It’s calm, well researched, complicated magic plays the long game. It’s demands less immediate results, and more long thought out processes of magic, unravelling things thread by thread or tearing them down brick by brick, ensuring success.

Calculated magic sacrifices time for exact, effective results, whereas sloppy sacrifices precision for raw intense power. Calculated magic tears down the wall carefully but laboriously brick by brick with your bare hands, sloppy magic slams a pickaxe into the wall and immediately knocks it down without care about where the bricks fall, whether they’ll land on your feet.

Always be aware of your actions, your words, your intention, your emotions.

Active, And Passive Sigil Activation

Once you have your sigil all charged up, and filled with your intent all there is left to do is to cast it into the universe to gain what you want, and desire. This casting into the universe can be done in two ways actively, or passively. Both of these ways have their own benefits, and setbacks, but it is important to determine which way you should activate certain types of sigils, because it changes the way the energy is released into the universe, and allowed to manifest. So we will be taking a look at both these activation styles, and when they would be most effective to use over the other one.

Active Sigil Activation:

In active sigil activation the energy is usually released all at once, or in a very immediate fashion. This is usually done through the means of destroying the sigil to allow all its energy to manifest at once. This type of activation is good for sigils that only have to be used once, or in a single situation. Sigils I would use in this activation method would be sigils for banishing, exorcising, purifying, cleansing, manifesting, summoning spirits, removing negative energy, removing spiritual blockages, removing emotional blockages, and one off curses, among many others.

Ways to activate active sigils:

  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and burning it in fire
  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and submerging it in water until it dissolves.
  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper, and ripping the paper in half.
  • Drawing the sigil in to the sand at the beach, and letting the sea wash it away.
  • Drawing the sigil in the air with your energy, and pushing through it in order to destroy it.
  • Making the sigil out of dust, or powder, and then blowing it away to destroy it.
  • Making the sigil in your mind, and then imagining it being destroyed to activate it.
  • Putting the sigil on food then eating it.
  • Drawing the sigil on a firework, and then set it off.
  • Drawing the sigil on a balloon, and then pop it.
  • Drawing the sigil on your body, and then wash it away.
  • Singing the sigil out loud for all to hear.
  • playing a music, or an audio sigil out loud for all to hear.
  • and much more…

Passive Sigil Activation:

In passive sigil activation the energy is usually released overtime through a very moderate, and controlled fashion. This is done through the means of charging a sigil, and keeping the sigil around with you, or in the area where the energy is needed for it to continuously produce its energy. This type of activation is good for sigils that are needed to continuously affect the world around them. Sigils I would use in this activation method would be sigils for protection, luck, empowerment, healing, psychic abilities, transformation, attracting energy, retaining energy, changing, and continuous curses, among many others.

Ways to activate Passive Sigils:

  • Putting the sigil on a piece of paper.
  • Drawing the sigil on your body.
  • Carving sigils into a candle, and lighting the candle.
  • Carving sigils into soap, and washing your body with the soap.
  • Making a sigil amulet.
  • Writing the sigils upon stone.
  • Placing the sigil as your computer, or phone background.
  • Posting an image of the sigil online.
  • and much more…

~Sigils for Wanderers~

Each of these is meant to be beneficial to wanderers and nomads in one way or another, and would work well on backpacks, phone-covers, shoes, or anything that regularly accompanies you on your adventures.

In case you can’t read my crappy handwriting, the meanings are, from top to bottom:

1. I find beauty and magic everywhere I go

2. I am calm and competent in all situations

3. I return from my journeys safe and happy.

4. I embody the power and adaptability of the sea

(the photos are mine, just some snippets from my own aimless wanderings)

Some things to remember about sigils.

I’m thrilled to see how sigils have taken off in the magical community, but there are three things I keep seeing in the tags that could easily compromise your manifestation.

-Use positive affirmations. Take the “not” out of your sigil. Sigils use your subconscious to manifest, and in much the same way that your first response when someone tells you “don’t look over there,” is to ignore them and look where they just told you not to, your subconscious will skip right over the “not” and fuck with your results. For example, “I am strong,” versus “I am not weak,” where “I am strong” carries the positive affirmations and “I am not weak” carries negative affirmations. Your subconscious takes “I am not weak” and crosses out the “not” and sees it instead as “I am weak,” and therefore your sigil may manifest the complete opposite of what you had intended.

-Use present tense as opposed to future tense. I’ve learned from experience to not leave room for loopholes, and using “I will” instead of “I am” leaves some room for loopholes. The phrase “I will be strong” leaves an open loophole where your sigil could start working right away as you intended it, or, in the case that the universe decides to be a little fucker as it so often does, a year from now. “I am strong” denotes that this is a thing that is happening now, so it’ll manifest now as opposed to later when it might not even matter anymore. If you have to use the word “will,” then the phrase “it is my will” may work for you.

However, if your sigil is something that you planned on manifesting sometime in the future, (“i will meet my soulmate”) then go ahead and use “i will” in your phrasing.

-Your sigil has to be charged AND activated. Not one or the other. Both. Masturbate over it and burn it. Meditate on it and tap it. There are a number of methods and combination of methods to achieve this, but it’s important that you do both or your desire will not manifest.

How to create a protective servitor

Protective spells are a common way to shield yourself from various types of threats, whether it be negative energy or direct attacks from others. The major problem with these types of spells is that they require a lot of energy. In chaos magick, a servitor is basically a program created by you to do a specific task. In this case, we’ll be creating a servitor specifically for spiritual protection.

Besides perhaps conspiracy theorists, who come to all the wrong conclusions, most people (including many witches and magicians) are unaware of the latent use of sigils in mass political movements and warfare. It is not impossible that some of the people who designed recognizable political symbols over the past hundred years have been occultists, but even if they weren’t, it is not unreasonable to recognize that such symbols often act as sigils regardless.

Many of us are likely familiar with the story of how Churchill’s famous “V for Victory” hand gesture may have a had an occult origin. Allegedly, Allied occultists (perhaps even Aleister Crowley) felt the Typhonian V symbol to be an effective counter to the forces represented by the swastika, which resembled the ritual sign known as the Mourning of Isis. This is an unconfirmed tale, naturally, but may well be true, even if only on the level of the collective unconscious.

Born from roughly the same time period, the Kotwica (Polish for “anchor,” due to its shape), has a long and storied history. Not only was it used by those resisting the Nazis, but it also played a role amongst groups opposing the communist regime that followed. I personally believe that this is one of those symbols that acts as a latent sigil, and has been charged and cast millions of times in the cause of fighting tyranny and oppression.

The origins of the symbol resemble those of most sigils, to a degree. As one can probably see, it’s a combination of the Latin characters “P” and “W.” This is an abbreviation of the Polish phrase “Pomścimy Wawer, which means “Avenge Wawer,” and refers to the Wawer Massacre, where atrocities were committed against Polish civilians by the Nazis. A later association for the initials was “Polska Walcząca,” which means simply, “Fighting Poland.” It seems that the symbol has many different connotations. The majority, though, are centered around combating tyranny.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this story is the symbol’s initial dissemination. It was coined by Polish Boy Scouts who worked to sabotage Nazi efforts, and was summarily tagged everywhere. If you wander Warsaw today, you’ll find examples of it from that time period still relatively intact on walls and buildings.

It is still used relatively frequently in a memorial sense, an thus, it is ubiquitous. Stories of early and later efforts to spread resistance via the symbol call to mind the 21st-century use of the LS linking sigil. Though some chaotes might find this disappointing, I would argue that the Kotwica is far more powerful than LS, mostly because of the sheer drive, emotion, and utter raw need behind it, both in its nascent forms and throughout the years.

In today’s world, I believe it is still useful, and likely just as effective as ever. The creators of this symbol may not have been occultists, but it is, in my mind, utterly a sigil against the rank forces of evil that infest this world.

Patronus Glyphs: Bat

This is the first of a new series I’ll be working on and experimenting with!

Similar to sigils but also much like servitors, these glyphs can be used in a variety of ways. Your “patronus” doesn’t have to be this animal for you to use it, but it’s best if you either have a tie to it, it makes you happy, or its particular brand of magic will be useful in what you’re trying to achieve.

***

How to use as a patronus:

*For banishing negative thoughts and emotions and chasing away depression*

-Focus your eyes on the image.

-Bring to mind your happiest memory, and hold it there. Imagine as you do that you are being filled with a sensation of warmth and/or a bright glow as the memory fills your awareness

-Once you feel you’ve been fully imbued with the light/warmth of your memory, touch or point to the patronus glyph and say, whisper, or think “expecto patronum” or whatever other activating phrase resonates with you.

-Imagine the patronus glowing, flaring to life, and physically chasing away your negative emotions (which could be visualized as dementors, if it helps).

***

Another way to use this glyph is to invoke it as a magical servitor or a familiar, in which case choose whatever activation method you prefer, or use the previously described steps but replace visualizing your happiest memory with visualizing your intent, and your servitor being fed and empowered by carrying it out.

Some things bat magic is good for:

-family bonding

-sending messages between planes

-percieving things beyond the veil

-finding things in dark places

-good luck and fortune

-transformation

-facing your fears

-general communication

Inverse Incantations

[Rev. 11.30.2016]

The use of “manufactured” language in the practice of magick can effectively strengthen symbolic efficacy while also intensifying the state of non-ordinary awareness that is critical to a successful working. The following procedure is intended to render normal speech unintelligible, and may be employed to construct mantric sigils, words of power, or a liturgical language for ritual use. I have developed a more involved method of accomplishing the same, referred to as Psychean Argot, though the procedure herein presented has proven far more expedient. The method is as follows.

Step 1: Construct the statement of intent, chant, prayer, etc.

Torrential rain occurs now

Step 2: Rewrite the statement backwards

won srucco niar laitnerrot

Step 3: Omit double consonants and omit unpronounceable consonant clusters (sruco, laitnerot) by dropping the second and subsequent consonants of the cluster until the word is pronounceable.

won suco niar laiterot

Step 4: Establish lexical stress and use as desired.

wón sucó niár laitérot
