Today Is

For any moon that’s illuminated

and spilling its fluid ivory

in our direction

there is a dark side facing

the blue-black immensity

studded with constellations,

ancient stories and their variations.

And so I would traipse

into this gray-dim day

feeling the skin of dreariness

knowing well the sun

will pour through other days

but today is today is today.

Taste now and be in the feel of it.

Reach into the tenderness of murk

and come up holding

something that flaps alive

and slimy in your hand.

It’s this moment

that wants to get away

and never be seen again.
