Tens of millions of vulnerable Americans would lose their food stamps
benefits if Republicans bent on defunding Planned Parenthood force the
second government shutdown of the Obama era next week, the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) warned on Tuesday.
Unlike the 2013 shutdown when cash reserves allowed Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to be disbursed as normal,
“USDA will not have the funding necessary for SNAP benefits in October
and will be forced to stop providing benefits within the first several
days of October,” a spokeswoman told the Associated Press.
The agency notified state SNAP administrators on Friday that they
should not begin the process of doling out October’s food stamps dollars
this week as they normally would.
Contrary to popular belief and rumors, there was new information released several minutes ago which stated that Studio Ghibli will NOT be closing down for good. Here’s Anime New Network had to say, verbatim:
“Suzuki discussed the great changes that the entire studio is undergoing at the studio’s shareholders meeting, and mused that these changes may include dismantling the production department. While there has been talk among some about dissolving the studio outright, Suzuki emphasized that the truth is that the studio is considering "housecleaning” or restructuring for now. The end result would be “rebuilding” the studio and creating an environment for the next generation.
Suzuki did not downplay the significance of Miyazaki’s retirement. Still, he added, “On what to do with Studio Ghibli’s future, it is by no means impossible to keep producing [movies] forever. However, we will take a brief pause to consider where to go from here.”
