shrimp everything

so i think im gonna transition my fish entirely to live and frozen foods. i have wingless fruit flies rn, im gonna get some fairy shrimp, daphnia, and culture infusoria. i’ll stick with frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp too. everything ive seen makes me think this’ll be healthier for em (it certainly makes em happier, and that is my life’s purpose).

let me know if you have any advice or something to add!!!

I love all these lactose intolerant hcs! 100% though JD is allergic to everything: like shrimp and peanuts and almonds and gluten and maybe even grass who knows - he's always exposing himself to all this and he's got like 700 partially-used epipens in that trench coat of his

JD: *is allergic to grass*

JD: *looks over at Vero as he slowly takes off his socks and shoes*

Veronica: JD dont-

JD: *prances around in the grass bc he’s obviously so happy to be alive*

  • Me, grumbling: Alright, I'll work on the book, but I'm only doing ONE PAGE.
  • Me: *finishes an entire chapter*
  • Still me, terrified and amazed: W-what....what just happened-

I’m pretty proud of this tank, so I kinda wanna show it off? It’s my first ever planted aquarium and it’s about 9 months old now.

- 5 gallons, low tech, fully planted (except one silk plant), 25watt Hydor heater, topfin HOB filter for 10 gallons, 4watt LED light

- Plants: anubias nana, anubias petite, crypt. wendetti green, java fern, and marimo balls

- Stock: 1 male betta fish (named Abzû), 1 zebra nerite snail, ~15 red cherry shrimp

I think that’s everything. I love this hobby and my fish kids, it’s so rewarding. I kinda wanna add more plants eventually but I’m still researching. And yes, my betta does leave the shrimp alone. He’s too lazy to chase after them.

10 things studying abroad does

1. Makes you forget walk-in closets exist

There is a whole room just to keep your clothes in?!

2. Makes you forget public transportation doesn’t

How do people even get around?

3. Makes you a packing expert

Sure, you will bring stuff all the way to the other side of the world just to realize you haven’t used it once. But by the time you go back home, after all the trips you’ve taken, you will know exactly what to leave behind and what to never let go of. Now that’s a skill for life.

4. Confuses you about currency exchange

20 crowns for a coffee, so expensive! Whoa only 2 euro for that keychain! Hey, I can get three t-shirts for just three dollars! (Guess what, it’s all the same price.)

5. Forces you to try new foods

Even if you didn’t mean to buy that weird salami in a tube (or caviar. or tuna. or bell pepper. or shrimp. seriously why is everything in a tube?!) Even if you were looking for milk, but was tricked into buying filmjölk (I know some of you have put it in your coffee, don’t you deny it.)

6. Changes your lifestyle

There is just no way you can live abroad the same way you did back home, somethings gotta change.

7. Makes you sentimental

You will talk about your study abroad year a lot. Probably like all the time. Non-stop. Your friends back home will beg you to shut up about it. But you can’t. It was so great.

8. Teaches you how to deal

There’s a lot of challenges you need to get through all while being on the other side of the globe with everything you know and love no where in sight, all alone, lost, confused… But after overcoming all that stuff many of your future problems will become easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy.

9. Shows that you can be friends with anyone

Guess what, you can get along with a person no matter their nationality, language, religion, culture, or political view. Studying abroad brings people together, because you are all alone in this strange new place and you all need new friends and things to do.

10. Makes you realize how lucky you are

Studying abroad is a truly amazing experience and you can make of it whatever you want, but there’s no arguing that it will change you as a person and you will remember that year forever!

Planting and maintaining beds of asparagus isn’t hard, but it’s important to know what you’re doing. If you want to harvest a bumper crop (I think that’s everyone’s goal) you have to refrain from being greedy the for the first several seasons.

Four years ago we planted asparagus crowns in two beds. The next spring when the spears poked through the ground, we successfully ignored them, so that the fronds could begin to feed the root system. Last year we picked for only a couple of weeks, and this year we plan to extend our harvesting to three. The idea is that if we maintain this schedule for the first five or so years, we’ll eventually have enough asparagus to eat to our heart’s content.

I found this tasty, somewhat unusual recipe from The New York Times, and it was a hands-down winner. It calls for lots of seasonings, rather than just butter or olive oil, and salt and pepper that I usually use. It has a bit of a sweet, salty taste and the toasted walnuts add protein as well as a little crunch.

The recipe doesn’t call for shrimp, but I read one reviewer had added it and loved the addition, and seeing as I was sort of looking for more of an entree rather than I sidedish, I included it too.

Wok-fried asparagus with walnuts, from The New York Times.

  • 1 ½ pounds asparagus, pencil-size or medium
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon grated garlic
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon palm sugar or dark brown sugar
  • 1 to 2 bird’s-eye chiles, thinly sliced, or use serrano or Fresno chiles
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • ½ cup toasted walnut halves
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 3 green onions, slivered
  • Cilantro sprigs, for garnish

Snap off and discard bottoms of asparagus, then cut into 2-inch pieces. (Halve thicker pieces lengthwise first.)

Set a wok over high heat and add vegetable oil. When oil is hot, add asparagus and season lightly with salt. Stir-fry for a minute or so, then add pepper, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, sugar, chiles, soy sauce and walnuts. Continue cooking over high heat for 1 to 2 minutes, tossing to coat well, until asparagus is cooked but still firm and bright green. (It will continue to cook a bit off the heat.)

Transfer asparagus to a serving platter and drizzle with sesame oil. Sprinkle green onions over the top and garnish with cilantro sprigs.

Note: If you decide to add shrimp to this dish, I sauteed 1 pound of raw shrimp in the wok until just done. I removed the shrimp from the wok and set them aside in a dish. I then cleaned out my wok with water and some paper towels, and proceeded with the asparagus recipe. When the asparagus dish was in its final minute or so of cooking, I added the warm shrimp, and cooked everything together.

Bully (Chanyeol) ~ [Part 3] here’s your requested scenario! I hope you enjoy it!

When I came home that day, my phone rang in my hand.

“Yi Fan?” I greeted.

“I swear if that boy hurts you, I will break him.” he growled from the other end.

His footsteps could be heard through the phone, telling me that he’s walking somewhere. Next thing I knew, my front door opened and Kris came through, just hanging up the call.

“You can’t be serious.” he spoke.

“About?” my eyebrow raised.

“That son of a dick, Chanyeol!” he exclaimed, crashing on my couch.

“You’re going to go on a date with him?” he asked. I nodded. He seemed to get a little more pissed off than he already is.

“Why? What if he hurts you again?” he found another point.

“If he does I won’t ever speak to him again and you’ll have full permission to beat him.” I replied. He must’ve thought I couldn’t see it but he turned a little and smirked for some reason.

“He told me he changed, Yi Fan. Give him a chance For me?” I gave him my well known puppy eyes. He gave a whiny sigh, avoiding the face but gave him.

“Why do you always do that? Jesus, fine. Let’s go find something for you to wear.” he dragged me up to my room. Sometimes, Kris can be a total girl sometimes. He went through my closet to find an outfit for later tonight.

When later came, I was dressed, FanFan left and the doorbell rang. I opened the door and gasped.

“Chanyeol, what happened?” Chanyeol was standing in front of me, looking nervous and sporting a huge bruise on the side of his face. A band aid was humorously plastered over it as if it hid the purple swelling cheek. He chuckled a little, his hands behind him.

“It’s not that big a deal, I deserve it anyway. Should we go?” he asked, waving my concern away.

“Chanyeol.” I said as warning. He looked down.

“Okay, okay. Earlier, I went to talk to Kris about what you liked so I can take you on a comfortable date. He punched me in the face.” he answered. My mouth hung, I suddenly realized why Kris was smirking earlier.

“You should’ve just asked me, are you okay?” I asked. He answered with a nod.

“I didn’t want the date to be just a restaurant and going home. But are you ready to go?” he questioned, a little more brightly. I smiled and took his hand as we left the apartment building.

“So, where are we going?” I questioned, walking down the road with him

“After Kris socked me in the face, he very angrily told me you liked aquatic stuff. So I thought I’d bring you to an aquarium that’s near by. You look great by the way.” he complimented. I blushed a deep red, playing with my the hem of my shirt and muttering a ‘Thank you’. I heard his chuckle and the blush deepened.

I was so not used to this side of Chanyeol. It feels kind of, warm. I like this side of Chanyeol better. He looked and acted like a total sweetheart under his bully facade. I was starting to grow to like him as a person.

We arrived in front of a huge building. There were loads of people going in and out. He escorted me inside. The place looked like a wonderland. There were fish tanks on every single corner of the museum. Ranging from tiny shrimp to sharks, everything was here and I felt like I entered heaven. We walked up to the counter and the person wrapped a band around our wrists so we have access to enter.

Chanyeol took me through this tunnel that was completely underwater. Sharks were swimming over us. A scuba diver was floating by, waving to people as he swam by. We went down the stairs where the whole room was under water.
Loads of fish swam by and I pressed my face against the glass in amazement.

They were all so cute! A dolphin suddenly swam up and face me. I started laughing and placed my hand against the glass. It rubbed its head against the glass where my palm was, making its dolphin noises.

“It likes me! Chanyeol look!” I exclaimed in excitement.

She looked extremely adorable right now. I was going a little crazy at how cute she’s being but held it in as I watched her. Her face lit up when she saw the fishes. I nearly died when the dolphin scene happened. I could only laugh too when she said that to me.

“Hey, you know we can purchase some as pets right?” I informed her, preparing myself for what’s coming.

“We can? Are you serious? Where?” she asked, her eyes widening and looking around.

“I’ll take you there when we finish with the show.” I smiled, looking away.

“Show? There’s a show?” she asked again. I laced my finger in with hers as I took her up to watch the dolphin show that’s about to happen any minute. I was going to sit down but she pleaded to sit in the splash zone.

“But your outfit will be drenched!” I was worried.

“It doesn’t matter, please? Pretty please?” her eyes widened, she pulled her puppy eyes and I nearly died it was so cute. I gave in. She squealed and took me to the front seats.

In moments, the show began. The dolphin trainers started telling the dolphins what to do. A bunch of floating, jumping and other things. Near the end was the big finish. They brought down a large hoop from the ceiling. In one whistle, all five of the dolphins leap out of the giant tank as far as they can to go through the hoop.

Just like what ____ wanted, we got splashed. She didn’t get angry, she cheered with excitement.

The show ended and everyone got up and left. Just like I promised, we went and bought a fish. She chose a small dotted fish and they placed it in a bowl for her to hold. We left the place and she was grinning down at the bowl.

“I’m going to name you Angie.” she whispered. I started laughing at her cuteness. A breeze came by and she shivered, moving a little closer to me. I took this chance, and like in any cliche romance movies, took off my jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders.

“I told you we shouldn’t have sat in the splash zone.” I teased her. Her face turned red in embarrassment.

“But it was fun.” I added. She looked up at me with a grin, knowing I had fun too.

We reached her apartment door and she turned with a shy smile.

“Chanyeol, I had fun today. Thanks.” she said, cheeks turning red once again. I, too, was getting red in the face.

“N-no problem. I’m sorry your outfit got ruined.” I replied with a nervus chuckle.

“It’s not a problem, don’t worry about it. Thanks for Angie.” she held up the bowl, her eyes lighting up once again.

“Umm, I’d like to do this again sometime. I-if you want to…” I stuttered. She smiled.

“That would be nice.” she said and nodded.

“Great! Uh, i-it’s getting late now, I should get going home now. Have a good night.” I was disappointed I had to go. I wanted to keep talking to her. But I waved and turned around, getting ready to walk back down.

“Oh! Wait your jacket.” she called, running up to me. I chuckled with a shake of the head.

“You keep it.” I replied. She then told me to come closer as if she wanted to tell me something. I bent down to listen. But got nothing but a kiss on the cheek as she pulled back, looking down at her feel.

“Good night, Chanyeol.” she mumbled. We both parted ways. As the elevator went down, I was smiling the whole way. My feelings for her is getting bigger.

Yes, I like her and I want to be in a relationship with her but she needs to recover. She needs to completely be comfortable with me before I can ask her so for now, I’m going to take it slow.

My hand gently touched my cheek where she kissed me and once again, I smiled as I stepped out of the elevator and walked home.

on some of your art you have moving elements do you animate it on photoshop or somewhere else? (btw all your art is frickin amazing and i love it)

Hello there Anon and thank you very much (✿◠‿◠)

I use Photoshop CS3 to animate my illustrations. If you’d like to I could show you how I do it (^▽^)

I woke up to a very slow and lethargic Damien today, not eating or swimming around like usual… ran water tests, everything is normal, shrimp are acting normal, everything about him visually is normal. I can’t stay home and watch him today, so I’m really hoping he pulls through.

2p Pranks on April Fools

((This is so late sorry))

(High School/College AU)

Prank: Allen TPed and egged the entire building, then put an actual cow in the cooking class that had a sign on it that read: “This is what you’re eating everyday!”

How he got caught: He gave away who is was because of the cow’s sign; he’s the only vegan in the school that would do this.

Prank: Matt poured maple syrup into Allen’s locker; so much so that it overflowed onto the floor.

How he got caught: The syrup on the floor was found by the staff and teachers and they found the note Matt put on it that said: “Your turn, fucker -Matt”

Prank: Ollie gave all the teachers cupcakes from his ‘reject’ pile.

How he got caught: He literally gave the cupcakes to them in person, and he waited for their reactions. He’s bad at pranks.

Prank: Left Playboy magazines and adult DVDs hidden around the school like Easter eggs.

How he got caught: He didn’t

Prank: Re-wrote all the notes on every board in the school in German because he wanted to frame Lutz. Any teacher that could speak German got theirs re-written in Chinese but Zao misspelled words purposely to confuse people.

How he got caught: Zao used Google translate for the German so Lutz, Gilen, and all the teachers that could speak German figured out

Prank: Didn’t play a prank but didn’t want to ditch school, so he stayed as far away from everyone as possible and the only word he said the entire day was “Here,” for roll call

How he got caught: N/A

Prank: This little prick did too many things to count. The highlight of his escapade was that he hid in the top of the observatory tower and water ballooned E V E R Y O N E

How he got caught: He almost got away with it by rope climbing down the side of the building to escape, but when he went into his next class the teachers caught him.

Prank: Nothing really, he just sabotaged a few of his friends pranks

How he got caught: He didn’t, but all his friends knew it was him

Prank: Gave out caramelized onions to people for 2 bucks a pop and pretended they were apples, pulled a mouse prank on all the computers he could find, hung pictures of dictators and bad world leaders on the staff wall (Donald Trump, Hitler, Kim Jong Un, etc.), replaced air freshener with shrimp scent, and basically everything else you could think of.

How he got caught: Two words: security cameras

Prank: Pulled pranks on Luciano and Lutz because he has scores to settle. His were honestly pretty lame, like emptying Lutz’s locker and hiding his things in the bathroom. His highlight was replacing Luciano’s oreo filling with toothpaste. He also put saran wrap on all the doorways.

How he got caught: Lutz just laughed it off, but Luciano gave him pay back

Prank: None, he’s an innocent cinnamon roll.

How he got caught: N/A

Prank: Gave the teachers the hints on how to catch each crook

How he got rewarded: He got a bunch of homework passes and different articles of candy

”you say you’re not a hero, but, my God, you would’ve battled every star if it meant to save her, and remind me again why you can only look to your hands and see the ghosting shades of red.”

↳ for chaolwestfaal. happy birthday hanna!

Probably the coolest thing I got on Amazon Prime Day was this small ecosphere. The closed ecosystem houses four Hawaiian red shrimp, and everything they need to live happy tiny shrimp lives (bacteria and algae). They swim around, and rest on the coral, and I love them. They’re very hard to photograph, though. I would totally recommend getting an ecosphere, especially for people who work at a desk, because the algae doesn’t need much light, and the shrimp are super fun!
