Thank you ASOUE for saying that an abusive home is NOT "better than nothing"
That whole “better than nothing” bit is often used to silence survivors of abuse. “At least you had a place to sleep at night/food!” No. Never say this to survivors of abuse. Their abusers likely said it to them often enough.
You don’t know how severe the abuse was, what their living conditions were, and the cost of having a roof over one’s head/meals provided/etc. should never be putting up with physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual abuse.
shoutout to the survivors who are not forgiving, who do not believe that what happened to them was ‘for a reason’, who know they did not deserve it, who are angry at what happened to them, and who do not show the typical 'good victim’ trope. You all get so much shit from people about how you should act from your trauma because only 'good victims’ are deserving of empathy and support. You deserve so much more than that.
look i know there’s been some back and forth about will’s sexuality, and while i have several feelings about that, i want to mention the most important thing that happened (for me at least) in season one. the few times where will’s sexuality is brought into question, the idea of him being gay is very clearly shown to be a negative thing (troy calling him a “fairy” and lonnie calling him a f*ggot). BUT what matters SO MUCH to me are the other characters reactions, mainly Joyce and the kids. when Hopper asks Joyce if Will’s gay, she doesn’t say “of course not!” or act offended by the idea. instead, she simply yells “does it matter?” and goes back to the problem at hand. Mike, Dustin, and Lucas are clearly pissed off when Troy and his groupie are making fun of Will (at his fucking memorial service, jfc, these kids) but they NEVER ONCE jump to “shut up, don’t say that, he’s not gay,” or anything along those lines.
even though gay is used as an insult against will, his friends and family don’t ever try to defend him by reaffirming his “straightness.” they defend his character and his worth, because that’s what matters.
I’m actually about to cry. If there is one thing Teen Wolf will never fail at is showing us just how much these characters have grown together? The amount of love and devotion they each have? How they all so desperately want to risk their lives to save one person. The entire town is being erased and they still want to save this one goofy boy whom they all love and adore. How Lydia’s love for him breaks the barrier of a supernatural rift. How Scott who has no banshee-like powers can still remember his best friend, his brother. How none of them fully remember him yet, but Malia still knows he’s her anchor. How the Sheriff was able to conjure up his son’s old room in his mind.
The McCall Pack will forever be the best ragtag misfits turned-to-friends group there ever was. <3
