Friends, let me be frank with you. The erasermic tag on Ao3 is an absolute disaster. Just a straight up nightmare of a calamity. That makes it hard to find good fic, and I need good fic y’all, I need it. Ahem.
And not only does the total catastrophe of a tag make it hard to find fic, it makes it hard for good fics to be appreciated. I see a lot of incredible fics with far too few kudos, and I can only assume it’s because they’re just too difficult to find among all the stuff tagged erasermic that doesn’t belong. And that makes me sad, because an unappreciated author is an author that is going to stop writing the things I love for free. So!! In the spirit of sharing the love, here are some recs from me to you. I’ll keep my Ao3 bookmarks page updated with more, and I hope that if you enjoy them, you’ll consider leaving kudos and a comment, to show the author some love and to help spread the word!
In no particular order:
At Peace by rhoen
Description:Hizashi let slip that spending his birthday around people pleasing them isn’t what he wants, so Shouta takes matters into his own hands and gives Hizashi a birthday to remember.
My Thoughts: If I were to name every story from rhoen (namiashiraidou on tumblr) that I love, it would double this list. This one is my favorite. The title says it all - it’s a beautiful, peaceful story that makes the reader feel safe, comfortable and loved in the same way the characters are. One of Aizawa’s lines towards the end absolutely wrecked me with how perfect it was, and I’m still in awe of the way the author was able to say so much in so few words. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Ignite by aizawashouta
Description:Hizashi’s New Year’s confession doesn’t go quite as planned, but in the end it’s all worth it anyway.
My Thoughts: I really struggled choosing a favorite work from aizawashouta. They have so many and they’re all so good. But this is the one I find myself rereading most, because the author really makes you feel the longing that pours off the characters. And beyond that, there’s a sense of love that underscores everything. This fic really does justice to the idea that these two have pined for each other for fifteen years and that is no small thing.
An Exercise in Cooperation by paranoid_fridge
Description:Fifteen years ago, their homeroom teacher paired Yamada Hizashi and Aizawa Shouta for a week-long assignment on cooperation. They start rocky, but through various exercises their quirks may not exactly be suited to (glaring won’t put out a fire, nor will screaming stop a boat from sinking, but they do make a good villain combo when it comes to keeping a hostage), realizations, and shared despair over homework manage to become friends.
My Thoughts: This fic is incredible. I have the softest of soft spots for teenage erasermic, and paranoidfridge absolutely nails everything I love about that theme: learning to respect each other, becoming stronger together, and opening up. This is more about the foundation of their friendship than romance, but the hints are there and the story is all the more beautiful because it takes its time.
Always On My Mind by LieutenantLiv
Description:Yamada Hizashi and Aizawa Shouta have been unlikely friends since meeting at Yuuei. There’s always been the question of what comes next. Now, it’s getting too hard to ignore. All that’s left is desperately trying to find time for date and a babysitter for Eri.
My Thoughts: LieutenantLiv (justkeeptrekkin) has done an incredible job of blending a present day Mic and Aizawa coming to terms with their feelings for each other, and their younger, UA counterparts laying the groundwork. The author really captures the vibrance and emotion of their school years via flashbacks. I hung on every word.
That’s it for now, though I hope to post more recs in the future! If you have any suggestions, my asks are always open, or just shoot me a message!
I just read a fic where Mic saw a spider and shrieked, summoning Aizawa, who had to carry him out of the classroom bridal style because he was afraid to step off the top of his desk. All the while telling the students that you should always be ready to help someone in need at a moment’s notice (like Aizawa) because you’ll never know what could happen (like a sudden spider).
I hope Iida can lend him an extra pair of glasses since he shrieked so hard he broke his own 😂😂😂
eri giving dadzawa a fathers day card and him being on cloud nine the whole day about it in his own way that results on him taking it easy on 1a, which puts everyone on edge like 'is this a trap?' "why isn't he acting like himself??" "what???" they aren't used to good mood aizawa
