Color Blind

The classic “when you meet your soulmate you see color” au, but with a twist. Because what if meeting them isn’t enough - what if you need to realise that they’re your soulmate for it to take effect?

Stiles is in third grade when he falls in love with Lydia Martin. And he knows it’s love, he really does, because when she briefly meets his eye across the playground one innocuous Tuesday the world around him blossoms into color.

He sees the shade of her hair for the first time, not quite orange, not quite red (strawberry blonde, he would settle on later, after encountering both colors separately) and the green of her eyes, as bright as the grass beneath her blue shoes. Stiles looks at Lydia and sees color, and it is beautiful.

Scott frowns when he tells him, like he doesn’t understand. “What do you mean you see color? Aren’t we too young for that?”

Stiles waves off his concerns and goes back to rifling through the classroom crayon supply, which suddenly holds a whole new world of possibilities. Some of them are still in black and white, and some are just sort of shades of grey, but some are vibrant colors and Stiles knows that’s more than most of the other kids can see so he’s happy.

He picks out the ones that look closest to Lydia’s colors and sketches a rough drawing of her. He’s not the best artist, but just seeing the colors on the page makes his heart race.

He catches her just before the end of the day. “Lydia!” he calls as she neatly tucks her pencils into their case. He can see that she’s got a red one and a blue one, and another color he can’t think of the name of, and he wonders if she sees them too.

She blinks up at him as he skids to a stop in front of her desk. “Yes?”

“I drew this for you.”

She takes the drawing and he waits with baited breath for her response. She glances over it before rolling her green eyes back to Stiles’ face. “What is it?”

“It’s… uh…” Now that he’s here in front of her, admitting that he’d drawn her seems like a creepy thing to do. He can see Scott wincing sympathetically across the room. Stiles finally settles on, “It’s in color. Don’t you see?”

Lydia scowls. “No, I don’t see.”

His heart drops, because this is not how the stories go. In the stories, when you meet your soulmate your whole world suddenly changes, and you start to see color. Because they’re your soulmate, they see color too. You look at each other, and you see color, and it’s beautiful. That’s what happened with Stiles’ parents, that’s what happens in all the stories of true love Stiles has ever heard.

But Stiles sees color, and Lydia doesn’t.

This doesn’t make sense.

Stiles is very lost when he asks, “You don’t?”

“No, I don’t.” Lydia eyes him warily, glancing from the drawing to his face and back again. “Why, do you?”

“Uh… I… um…”

When he doesn’t give her a straight answer, she pins him under a very scrutinising stare. For a second Stiles swears that she’s seeing it too, that she knows exactly what he’s talking about, but then she silently pushes the paper back towards him.

Stiles feels like he might cry. “Keep it,” he says quietly. “I drew it for you.”

He turns to head back to Scott before she can reply, and his friend offers him a consolatory pat on the back.

“I’m sorry,” he says.

Stiles shrugs. “Eh. At least I can see color now.”

Scott nods. “And at least she kept the drawing.”

Stiles spins so fast he almost falls over. He turns just in time to see Lydia tucking the paper into her bag behind her pencil case. Both are pink.

Stiles grins. It might take a little bit longer, but he knows that one day Lydia is going to look at him and see something more than grey.

Voodoo Mama's Spellbook: Potion of the Wicked

A potion made with the specific purpose of picking you up, cleansing you, and reviving your energy after performing a curse on someone.

  • Club Soda
  • Mint leaves
  • Cucumber slices
  • Drop of lemon juice

Allow to sit for a while. It should keep for a few days. I charge mine with the sun. A small cup of this should help you after a hexing someone! It isn’t the best tasting thing in the world but I find it refreshing. (you can add sugar if you wish.)

My Jared photo-op was the most amazing and emotional experience of my existence.

Some of you may know my story, some may not, but most of you can assume that it has to do with AKF and you’re absolutely right.  To put it in the simplest way I can: Sam Winchester saved my life six years ago when he sacrificed himself for the world, but Jared Padalecki gave me my life back when he opened up about his depression last year.

I had been looking forward to this moment since the premiere of “Swan Song” and it was finally happening at NashCon.  When they called for the Jared-ops, my legs were trembling as I walked up the stairs.  I stood in the long line alternating between crying and shaking and when I finally saw him, just more than an arm’s length away from me, I didn’t know what to do.

When it was my turn for the photo I somehow managed to walk up to him.  He smiled down at me (dimplesdimplesdimples) and leaned down to be eye-level.  Green and browns swirl together in those eyes.  He said, “Hi!” in the kindest voice and I immediately started crying.  The next thing I knew he had cupped my head with his hand (and his hand takes up my entire head) and pulled me into the tightest hug of my life.  I apologized four or five times into his chest and he said, “No, no, no, doll, it’s alright.”  (!!!!!)

There was a fifteen second time span where it was just him looking down at me and I realized (after that fifteen seconds) that he wanted to know what I wanted to do for the picture.  I apologized (again) and he laughed, so kindly, and told me it was okay.  I asked him for a hug and he grinned real big (dimplesdimplesdimples) and answered, “Absolutely.”

He pulled me back into a hug, the one you see here, and Chris snapped the picture.  I was crying again - being in Jared’s arms for just a moment was too much - and I thanked him quickly, knowing he had more pictures to take.

But as I was walking away he grabbed my hand in his and pulled me back into yet another hug.  When he pulled back he looked down at me, still holding my hand (he has a callus on his right ring finger), he said, “You look beautiful.  Do you have any other pictures or the autographs later?”  I told him I had a picture with him and Jensen later and then autographs and he went, “Awesome.  I’ll see you then, okay?” and then he blew me one of those two-handed kisses he does.

Jared is the most genuine and kind and comforting person in the entire world and my life has been changed for the better because of him and everything he does and not a day will ever go by that I won’t look at this picture and be eternally grateful for him and everything he’s done.

  • both dorcas and marlene are gryffindor.
  • marlene is loud, fiery, and loving. when she sees an opportunity, she takes it. she pushes dorcas, who is more refined, to take risks, which leads me to my next headcanon;
  • dorcas likes to step back and think about things before doing them. she values friendship and chivalry a lot, which is truly what makes her a gryffindor. she isn’t afraid of much either (and if she is, she doesn’t show it), but that doesn’t mean that she is as ambitious as marlene.
  • both girls had been in the order of the phoenix since it was founded. marlene was always the one to suggest insane and risky plans at meetings, and dorcas would be the one to help marlene think through those plans, and consider consequences (honestly, dorcas would be a ravenclaw if she didn’t value gryffindor traits so much)
  • marlene only sees her goals, and doesn’t want to focus on “plans” and how to get to her goals. she just wants to do it. dorcas, on the other hand, isn’t afraid to take risks, but she’s also very logical, and will help decide the least risky option.
    • dorcas keeps marlene grounded (and alive).
  • dorcas is a leader. she’s easily able to organize a group and keep people under control.
    • (marlene may or may not threaten to “square up” whenever somebody doesn’t agree with her.)
  • dorcas doesn’t have a family. marlene becomes her family.
  • marlene, however, does have a family—and it’s very large. marlene’s family welcomes dorcas with open arms.
    • (dorcas, however, feels like she doesn’t deserve marlene’s family. she loves them, but keeps her distance)
  • when they’re together, they’re passionate, and adventorous, and so happy. and sometimes scary to others.
    • their passions out brought out when they’re around each other.  for example, when they start to discuss something like muggle/muggle-born/half-blood rights, they get quite loud. and angry. and frightening.
    • this makes them terrifying when fighting in the first wizarding war
    • dorcas, although she tries to, she sometimes cannot resist marlene’s wild suggestions (like disobeying the order of the phoenix when they’re disagreeing with them, or sneaking out in the middle of the night for broomstick rides despite being hunted by voldemort and his followers)
      • the broomstick rides are amazing, by the way. they race through the clouds, doing intricate loops around each other.
      • marlene, in the excitement, sometimes will purposely let go off her broom and fall—for not only the thrill of falling, but also so that dorcas will grab her hand, and haul marlene onto her broom. marlene will wrap her arms around dorcas’ waist, and breathe dorcas in as they fly under the moonlight.
    • dorcas bought a polaroid camera from a yard sale in a muggle town.
      • she and marlene would take endless pictures together until the film ran out, and then dorcas would go out and find more.
  • dorcas is dangerous in her passion. she sticks strongly to her moral code, but becomes lethal through it. she spies on voldemort and his followers, revealing important information to the order of the phoenix.
  • marlene hates it when dorcas is sent on a mission without her. she paces around the house until dorcas comes back unharmed.
  • they get close, fast.
  • dorcas bought a ring in the chaos of the first wizarding war.
  • voldemort was well aware of marlene—although dorcas, not so much—and her entire family. they were constantly setting him back.
    • so, one awful night, voldemort ordered his death eaters to murder marlene and her entire family.
    • they did it. just like that, and not a single mckinnon was left alive.
    • dorcas was devastated
    • she completely lost it.
    • she took in marlene’s fiery anger, and mixed it with her own deep hatred. along with the pain of losing marlene.
    • she didn’t start going about things without planning or going on suicide missions—no, because that wouldn’t help. instead, she relied heavily on that pain.
    • and she planned, and plotted, and played her cards.
    • dorcas kept the pictures she and marlene had taken with that polaroid camera in her pocket at all times. she only left two—one, that was a picture of the entire order, and another that she had left on a dresser one day and forgotten.
    • in one night, dorcas had captured seven death eaters. seven
    • marlene was her only family, and dorcas wasn’t about to quit.
    • until voldemort finally took notice of her.
    • she had become too dangerous to disregard any longer.
    • so one night—six days after marlene’s murder—voldemort sought out dorcas and killed her himself. all of the pictures dorcas carried were incinerated.
  • and that was that.
