What do you think about DUDE's doujin series?
I love it!
Is it the HERO and TWO PLAYER series? If it is then I love it lol even though I got a bit confused at the child Shizuo and Izaya ahahaha.
I really like it because even though it’s not exactly how I see Shizuo and Izaya, it has like meaning? It’s not like just one event and then sex or them already together in a relationship. It’s them in an ambiguous sexual relationship and it’s been so long since I touched it but I really like how Izaya wasn’t girly and was actually pretty masculine just - as I said Shizuo is too manly xD And yes the character design of Izaya is…manlier than I expected (but yes, muscles from parkour!) but better than blushing uke xD
Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy doujin with blushing uke Izaya (who doesn’t? he’s cute) but I do want to see IC Izaya being his sly and manipulative self too you know? I really liked how the series focused more on their characters and the ending was perfect, how it reflected their first meeting.
And how Izaya came to accept his attraction and love for Shizuo - it was kinda psychological? It wasn’t sudden, it was tied to his character of controlling and manipulating others and then he gradually realized how he was fine with being tied to Shizuo and how he’s the one who ‘lost’. So yeah, it was gradual and served as character development, to how Izaya doesn’t want to see Shizuo because he’s realized he loves him, “If asked now whether I would live my life alone or with another person, I don’t know which I would choose”. Or something like that but I felt this line really captured it - because Izaya is all about independence and freedom but his feelings for Shizuo affect him so greatly he wouldn’t mind sacrificing his solitude to be together with him.
And he’s scared of that, which is why he has that expression near the end where Shizuo thinks, “So this is the real Izaya.” Because he’s seeing Izaya with all his feelings and fragile heart exposed and is seeing Izaya as a human (and with Shizuo’s recent interview, we now know he never, refused to consider Izaya as a human) And my theory is that he doesn’t want to admit he could love Izaya (a human whom he would have hurt). So reflecting on that him seeing Izaya at that moment as a human would mean he accepts Izaya is human and could have loved him all along. I mean Shizuo’s expression when he broke Izaya’s knife and kissed him? It was just so emotional I don’t know how to describe it in words lol and I’m just speaking from memory but it was like a mix of desperation and longing and love at finally seeing Izaya.
And of course the ending yes go Shizuo show Izaya who’s boss! Lol seriously though it was a nice touch for Shizuo to bring up their first meeting because well, Izaya pissed him off then and he’s pissing Izaya off now. And because to him Izaya was taunting him and being amused at his reaction (leaving a scar on his physical body too) but this time years later Shizuo turns the tables on Izaya. Like for Izaya, his, “See? Isn’t this fun?” - is towards a relationship of hatred which Izaya prefers because of the pain of Shizuo’s rejection. But Shizuo’s “See? Isn’t this fun?” in counter to Izaya’s years later - is towards a relationship of love which Shizuo prefers because he’s finally seeing Izaya - and which Izaya doesn’t, because it binds him to Shizuo in a way that makes him need Shizuo and god forbid Orihara Izaya ever need anyone.
Anyway as you can see I’m just rambling now lol but yes, I loved it! Besides that series though, I really liked Cuteness is Violence, it’s super cute (or was it Violence is Cuteness?). Izaya was Izaya the bastard Izaya and manly and not pretty when crying (which is honestly more realistic) and of course I”m all for Shizuo turning the tables on Izaya lol. And his observation of how Izaya doesn’t play with others, I liked that psychological bit. I also liked one which was like a sequel of TWO PLAYER? (I think) I think it was called UFO LINE or something? But I don’t really know if there’s a continuation because it ended on a cliffhanger
So yeah DUDE doujinshi is one of my favorites (the other is by Sinba I think? Stopline and Guardline or something, I liked it because Izaya there was like Makio from Kuchizuke wa uso no aji, uke but still himself after sex) because Shizuo and Izaya are Shizuo and Izaya there, maybe a different interpretation of their character but you can see they’re Shizuo and Izaya, the ‘bastard and the beast’ (not beauty and the beast lol) and to see them and their complex relationship in doujinshi form with them being themselves is pretty amazing.
