I see many people in the fandom ask about what Toby said to Ralph about Waige .They claim that because of the fact that Toby is the gateway for the writers to tell the viewers what's coming next, what he said to Ralph it's also the writers point fo view .To tell the truth i don't believe it cause i think Toby said what he said to Ralph to protect him and also writers in many interview hint that Waige is endagame .What's your opinion about Toby's/Ralph conversation?
Hello anon! Thanks for your question!
The idea that Toby’s message to Ralph about Waige is the view of the writers is complete nonsense. The showrunners, writers, and cast have all alluded in various interviews that Waige is 1) a slow burn ship, 2) will get together at some time in the story, and 3) are endgame. These facts are supported by various moments. In this season alone, episodes 3.03 It Isn’t the Fall that Kills You and 3.10 This Is the Pits have clear messages that Walter and Paige love one another and Walter will get the girl in the end. Plus, the show’s social media pages refer to Walter and Paige by their ship name even though their romantic relationship is not canon yet. If you haven’t caught these moments, you need to clean your shipper goggles or take them off. They’re blinding you! Lol!
Patience is not a virtue in fandom when it comes to ships. In some cases, this is understandable, but not in others. Yet, this is what I have deduced. The Waige journey right now doesn’t come from the moments Walter and Paige share together. It comes from the way they are progressing as individuals in seasons 2 and 3. Walter’s struggles in season 2 have transitioned to season 3, but they have taken new meaning. This is no surprise considering that Walter is the main character and his emotional development is a story arc of the whole series. Paige’s internal conflict has been fleshed out in season 3. Waige’s characterization follows a very distinct pattern, which I call “The Waige Flip” in season 3. And so far, it seems like a reliable model to gauge when Waige will likely become canon. That’s why you don’t see me up in arms over Waige. The pattern is not complete yet. The show has established production patterns that are clearly evident in each season. Once you notice them, behind-the-scenes footage from social media, officially released spoilers, and clues dropped through marketing are easier to read.
