Summary: JongKey put up Christmas lights.
“You are literally the most difficult person in the world,” Key muttered to himself as he walked away from where Jonghyun was still hanging plastic ornaments.
“I heard that,” Jonghyun singsonged, clearly indifferent to the misery he was putting Key through.
Key huffed but did as he had been told and was making sure that there was a ‘balance’ to the Christmas lights and decorations that he and Jonghyun were putting up. Jonghyun kept telling Key to go to make sure that everything that could be symmetrical was, and that the things that couldn’t be were distributed evenly.
It’s a good thing that I love him, Key thought as he exited their apartment, walked down two flights of stairs, and went over to where he was directly in front of his and Jonghyun’s balcony. It’d be one thing, he grumbled bitterly, if they lived in a house. To him, Jonghyun’s need for their balcony to be perfectly decorated seemed like a bit much.
“How does it look from down there?” Jonghyun called out to Key.
Although he wasn’t happy about having to leave the relative warmth of their apartment and their small balcony, from this view point, Key was able to tell that Jonghyun had been decorating more heavily on the left than on the right.
“Babe, you have to move some of those big ornaments towards the middle. They’re too far on the left,” Key yelled back. “And you’re favoring the left with tinsel.”
Jonghyun nodded dutifully, as if it was an epic mission he was on, instead of just decorating their tiny balcony for the holidays.
It was likely because this was the first time that neither of them were leaving their tiny post-grad apartment to go home to their families for the holidays. Key had too much work to do for one of the classes he was a TA for and couldn’t excuse such an expensive flight home for only eight days of vacation. Jonghyun, of course, wouldn’t hear of Key staying in their apartment alone. He didn’t have as much work to do, but he insisted that it would probably be best for him to not spend the little money he had on a flight.
Jonghyun had also mentioned starting some Christmas traditions of their own, with it being the first one they would be spending together.
That was the reason, in addition to how unbearably adorable Jonghyun looked in those oversized sweaters he was so fond of wearing around their apartment, why Key put up with having to go up and down the stairs of their apartment another seven times to make sure everything was up to Jonghyun’s standard.
When Jonghyun finally joined Key on the grass by their apartment building, wanting the final say on whether or not their balcony was perfect, Key simply held his boyfriend’s hand and waited for his assessment.
“I love it,” Jonghyun said, with wonder in his voice. “It’s colorful and festive and perfect.”
“Just like you,” Key replied with a chuckle. “And I love you.”
Holy hell, I was not expecting that ending! What a plot twist!! I’m so excited to see where they go with this now. He’s always been the villain in a sense but now we have someone in present day. (More on this below.)
Eun Tak: Look at our little child growing up and graduating high school? She’s come so far. Watching her sit alone while the girls around her all hugged, took selfies, and said their good-byes was actually sad. It was even more sad when their parents came in and she had no one. I loved the fact that the class president took the initiative and said she wanted to stay in touch though; while she may not have had any friends while in school, she’s leaving with one and that’s actually quite special. I bet that either it’s her or Sunny that Eun Tak is talking to on the phone in Canada when she’s 29 (I can’t remember the voice so idk lol). And what an entrance made by Shamshin. It was about time they met; she’s always been looking out for Eun Tak and I’ll give her that. I don’t think she’s the villain but I’m excited to see if Eun Tak can convince her to help change their fate.
Deok Hwa: I’ve missed him and I’m excited to see him make an appearance tomorrow. If he truly is a diety—and the butterfly one at that—I’m sure it’ll give one hell of a shock to our favorite trio! There’s definitely more to him than being the obvious funny guy; he wouldn’t show up around Shamshin that often just for that.
Shin/Sunny: Shin’s reactions to Sunny were cute; I love that he bought things for her that his sister enjoyed back in the Goryeo era. I’m excited to for Sunny to remember her past life; while some of her mannerisms and dialogue are the same as the Queen’s, Sunny’s personality is much more carefree than her past self. I think her getting sick is her body’s way of remembering so this is going to be fun haha.
Yeo/Sunny: SHE FINALLY KNOWS. Her calculations (184 cm tall, 2cm heels) were spot on! I thought that was a really cool way of revealing himself to her instead of just actually saying it. I also love the fact she didn’t freak out like crazy when she did find out; she figured out why he didn’t have a name, why he knew things he should, how he erased her memory. She really is quick on the uptake. I’m honestly ready for the both of them to remember who they are at this point! I hope we make some progress on that front in Episode 12. Also, while the Yeo as the King made me wanna slap him, Sunny as the Queen was brilliant (way to go Kim So Hyun!).
Eun Tak and Ghosts vs. Husband: WTF. So it all ended fine but I thought that this scene really just showed Eun Tak being stupid and she’s not a dumb character so I didn’t really like how they went about it. I mean she knew the cause of her death is falling and then she followed this creepy dude onto the edge of a building. Even when the ghost said that he pushed her off a rooftop, she didn’t really flinch about it. When the ghost talked about having evidence of him plotting her murder, she repeated it out loud. Like you just got confirmation that this dude is a psychopath and you just repeat everything? I know it’s for the plot and she may have been able to blow the lighter and have Shin come in time, but I thought that scene really did a disservice to her character in that regard.
I’d like to start by saying that tongue thing was super gross and I got chills watching that. 😖
Seeing this bastard took me by surprise though. Tbh, I never would’ve thought that we’d see him again but it makes sense that he’s back..it all began with him. He killed the King and raised Yeo, trained him to distrust others while placing himself on a pedestal. He used Yeo’s jealousy to manipulate him into hating Shin and essentially the Queen. His greed for power set everything in motion so it’s fitting that he be around for the end. I think this dude’s unfinished business is the fact that Shin killed him. Why go after Eun Tak as the goblin’s bride otherwise? I also have a feeling that Yeo’s memories will be triggered once he sees him again. Though I wonder how he can die if he can avoid a grim reaper? It’s not like Shin or Yeo can kill a ghost, right? Maybe this gives a reason for Deok Hwa to intervene if he is a diety? So many questions.
Either way, I loved the fact that this drama surprised me like this; I’m excited to see where they go with all of it. Episode 12 looks like it’s going to be bangin’.
