14) “I come to the library every day to ‘study’ but really I’m just watching Netflix over your shoulder and I’m really invested in this series and the day we’re supposed to be watching the season finale you’re not there and I??? Feel personally betrayed??”
Lucy sat down at her desk, flipped open her 17th-century literature notes, sat her triple shot extra vanilla caramel macchiato on the table, her textbook beside her, and finally looked up.
He wasn’t there.
Where the hell was he?
It was 5:30, Lucy was settled into her spot at the last table between Row Ba and Bu, and yet the table in front of her was glaring empty.
How the fuck was she going to find out how this season of White Collar ended?
Honestly, it wasn’t even Lucy’s fault she was addicted to that show. She had been sitting innocently in the library two weeks ago when she noticed the guy in front of her, not studying. Even if Lucy hadn’t done a double take on his neon pink hair and double bars in his left ear she would have noticed his screen playing the show just in front of him. It’s not like Lucy had been staring at him, it’s just that she had to look past him to watch his stupid laptop.
Look, Lucy couldn’t afford Netflix and she wasn’t about to risk her own laptop going on one of those shady sites just so she could find out if Niel managed to pull the scam or if he’d stay on the good side with the agent.
But God did she want to find out. Lucy looked down, worrying her lip. She probably could study like she had meant to every time she came here, but after the let down of mystery-boy not showing up Lucy just didn’t have the energy to do it. Dejected, she packed up her notes and textbook, putting in her headphones as she headed to the doors.
Lucy was halfway back to her dorm when something hard slammed into her shoulder, sending her sprawling on her ass in the grass beside the sidewalk. She rubbed her back, scowling at the boy who had caused her fall. He sat across from her, also having fallen from the collision. Her drink coated the pavement beside, thankfully missing her clothes.
The boy however, was not so lucky with his own drink.
“Aw, fuck,” he complained, arms cast to the side as he tried to keep himself from touching the red stain the was dripping down his front. And making his tank top cling to his defined muscles. Damn. It was like one of those meet cutes she read online.
Lucy’s bad mood was starting to ebb away until she looked at his face. It was a very good face, but Lucy’s attention was stolen from looking at it more closely by the bright pink colour of his hair. And the piercings in his ear, two bars on the left and smaller plugs in his lobes. And another two in his lip and eyebrow.
Lucy pointed her finger at him, clambering onto her knees. The boy blinked at her in confusion, bright eyes green and wide as his gaze flicked between her finger and her face.
“Uh, do I know you?” he asked, lips thinning when Lucy huffed.
“You weren’t in the library! Where were you? I waited for like ten minutes to watch the stupid season finale and you never showed up!” She said hotly. Lucy pouted when the boy started to laugh.
“You’re the weirdo who always watches my laptop with me!”
“Uh,” Lucy mumbled, flushing harder.
“Was wondering if you’d just stop eventually,” he grinned at her, no malice and a light teasing dancing in his forest green colouring.
“Well then why did you have the subtitles on?” Lucy asked hotly. Honestly, if he had noticed and thought she was weird then why wouldn’t he have just turned them off?
The boy gave her a knowing grin before moving his hands. Realization dawned on Lucy and she felt heat creep up her neck in shame.
“Oh my God he’s deaf,” she whispered to himself.
“And his name is Natsu,” the boy grinned at her, laughing at Lucy jolting and her high squeak. “I can read lips, Weirdo.” Lucy covered her mouth, stopping herself from saying anything else that might offend Natsu. They sat in silence, Lucy worrying her lip. She stood up finally, gathering her bag and offering her hand to Natsu. He gave her an odd look, taking it anyway and smiling at her easily when she helped him up.
“I have a laundry machine in my dorm,” she said slowly, looking at his lip ring pointedly.
“Ya don’t have to,” Natsu started, shocked at her offer. Lucy shrugged, blushing as she realized they were still holding hands.
“Its my fault you spilled your drink all over yourself,” Lucy mumbled, blushing when she realized that Natsu probably couldn’t understand her. She shrugged anyway, pulling Natsu with her. Why’d he have to be so cute though? Ugh, Lucy just wanted to bury herself in her blankets and sleep for a week.
“You know I didn’t hate sharing my laptop with ya. Thought it was a little weird, but I mean look at me. Deaf punk college chem student. I ain’t exactly gonna judge ya for it.” Natsu shrugged, giving her another easy smile. Lucy smiled back, watching the concrete in front of them for a couple seconds. Steeling herself, she tapped on his arm, turning to face him but still only looking at his lip ring. It was silver with a red jewel in the middle, and Lucy thought it stood out nicely against his skin.
“I don’t think you’re weird.” She said, picking up the pace as she pulled Natsu along behind her.
“You don’t even know me yet! What’s your name anyway, Weirdo?”
Lucy pouted at the reoccurring nickname. “It’s Lucy,” She grumbled.
“Lushi?” Natsu sounded out.
“No,” Lucy said, meeting Natsu’s eyes. “Lu-see.” She over-pronounced it, trying her best to make it easier for Natsu to understand.
“Lu-shi,” Natsu sang, slinging his arm over her shoulder. Lucy scoffed as she realized he was making fun of her, elbowing him in the side. She was vindicated when he grunted, his sniggers cut off as she caught his kidney. “So violent,” he mumbled, and Lucy looked at him as she worked out if he had meant for her to hear or not. Deciding he hadn’t meant to speak out loud she let it go, fishing for her key in her bag.
“Uh,” Natsu said, Lucy looking up at him as he scratched the side of his face awkwardly. “We can finish watching White Collar while my shirt’s in the wash?” Natsu offered. Lucy smiled, nodding slightly as she bit her lip to stop it from getting too large. “Cool,” Natsu said, a little loudly. Lucy giggled, ducking her head. Looks like Lucy might be getting her meet-cute anyway.
Are the "traditional outfits" which are posted in the DW tag accurate to what would have been worn during the three kingdoms?
I assume, by the “traditional outfits” in DW tag you mean the casual/informal attire for Dynasty Warriors 9? (If not please send me a direct link.)
First of all, I’m not an expert in this field, I just know a thing or two. Perhaps, people who actually study traditional hanfu (like @ziseviolet or @changan-moon) can correct me.
So, from the most historically accurate to the least historically accurate:
Cao Cao and Yuan Shao’s outfits are a classic Han Dynasty male costume. Historically accurate. That’s what men of high social status wore back then.
Xiahou Dun, Sima Shi, Lu Bu: I’m not sure about their vest-like outer garments - I don’t think they belong to this historical period. Even if they do, they probably would have been worn above the belt, like on this picture.
Wang Yuanji: While male costume changed little during the Han-Wei-Jin transition, female costume evolved significantly. During Han it was a one-piece and rather bulky garment (you may check the picture here), while during Wei and Jin it was replaced by outfits with separate top and bottom parts. This new fashion also revealed more skin around the neck. So, Wang Yuanji’s costume is mostly ok, except for this wide piece of cloth under the belt - it should be positioned lower, as a kind of a short upper skirt or an apron. The scarf also doesn’t belong to this period.
Zhuge Liang: not sure. It’s not a classical Han/Wei/Jin dynasty outfit, yet it also doesn’t scream “Historical Inaccuracy!!11”.
Ma Chao and Sun Ce: no, this is definitely something from later eras. Similar clothes were worn during Tang and Ming, but not during Han, Wei and Jin.
Da Qiao: 100% not historically correct. What is it even: a 20th century qipao with an underskirt? A Vietnamese aodai with a skirt instead of
? Her outfit looks very modern.
A small birthday fic for @shadoouge, you mentioned a drawing you did with a teapot on one of your streams ~ and like much of your work it inspired me.
Lucy flicked a menacing look at Natsu. "What do you mean, ‘No?’ “ She slid a finger down the smooth expanse of highly decorated porcelain, wrapped her hand around the handle and lifted the teapot. "You don’t get to choose.” Lucy’s voice dropped into a growl. "You are here to pay for the teapot you destroyed, not picking it out.“
Happy jumped from Natsu’s shoulder and onto Lucy’s. "It wasn’t all Natsu’s fault! You wouldn’t let him practice his finishing-move technique.”
Natsu did his best to appear innocent; pouting lips and eyes as wide as he could manage. He dipped his head and shuffled his feet. "Lu - shi…“
The blonde shrugged the exceed off her person and cradled the ornate teapot to her chest. "What’s wrong with it?”
“It’s not big enough.”
“Six cups is plenty big.”
The remaining customers that hadn’t scurried out of the store when the trio stormed in now fled. Smiling with an increased grit to her teeth, the middle-aged shop keeper watched the young couple she’d thought sweet argue, louder and louder.
“A-hem.” The woman cleared her throat and hobbled out from behind the counter. "How may I serve your needs today?“ Mildred used her cane to point to the teapot Lucy still held. "That is a one of a kind work of art. I couldn’t help but overhear talk of size.”
Lucy blushed and turned her back on Natsu. "I think it’s lovely.“
Natsu grimaced. "It’s too small and fancy.”
Lucy saw the knuckles of the business owner whiten, her nails digging into the head of the cane. Dropping this particular argument seemed in her best interests. Lucy glared at her partner and winded him by thrusting the teapot into his gut. Natsu gaped and gasped like a landed fish. He held onto the teapot reflexively.
Lucy smirked. "Hah! Just proved myself right, it’s plenty big!“
"N-not fair! I wasn’t ready.” Natsu pouted, his complaint ignored by Lucy.
“I wish to purchase that teapot.” She jerked her thumb at Natsu. "He’ll be paying.“
From the highest shelf in the shop, Happy called to both Lucy and Natsu. "No! Buy this one instead!” The teapot he pointed to was giant; emblazoned with a fish motif that coiled around the body and had the handle and spout in the form of a fish as well. "It’s beautiful!“ Happy smacked his lips and drooled.
Natsu pushed Lucy’s choice onto a crowded display and grabbed his choice; a 12 cup behemoth of porcelain, painted to resemble flames. "Now this is both weapon and art!”
Hands on hips, Lucy marched over to her favoured teapot. Snatching it up she elbowed Natsu before turning back to the shop keeper. "He’s going to pay for this one.“
“But what about the fish one?! It’s the best looking one in the whole store!”
Team Natsu glared at one another, absorbed in their argument.
The shop keeper reached her limit. From underneath a counter, she withdrew a modest two cup sized teapot. It was small, but made in a most solid fashion: cast iron to be exact.
“Get the hell out of my shop! Go! Shoo! Be gone and never return!!” She brandished her weapon wildly, at times almost breaking her own stock of merchandise. "Git!“
Happy launched himself off his high perch and flew at max speed out of the shop. Natsu let go of his teapot and pried Lucy’s choice out of her hands, dragging her out of the now violent older lady’s reach.
"C'mon Lucy!” Natsu scooped her up in his arms, rushing out the door.
Grumbling under her breath, the merchant settled her personal teapot back in its spot. "No one ever messes with me twice after I use 'Excalibur’. “

En Shi Yu Lu Green Tea (恩施玉露) is a traditional Zheng Qing Steamed Tea with rare production. Its making process and tools are very ancient, which is very similar to the description of “The Classic of Tea” by Lu Yu.
Guess whose story line will be revealed by Little Qiao’s story line?
Here’s a page from the first story from Shi Yi Lu with Qiao Shiqi as the main focus. Just look at all this full-colored beauty!!! I guess Shi Yi Lu is gonna be similar to The Peony Pavilion, which is another anthology work from Xia Da.
The question above was posed by Xia Da. Hmmm…I wonder… Honestly, when I think of Qiao Shiqi, the only character I can think of that his story can be related to is Chang-ge. But then again, any character from Chang’an would work, really. It could be Du Ruhui for all we know, especially since Qiao Shiqi was supposed to be Du Ruhui’s student/subordinate.
I wonder if the page above is supposed to be a hint. He seems surprised at whoever it was that he saw. Could it be Chang-ge? Li Shimin? The Crown Prince? Someone famous and well-known in Chang’an? Aaaaaahhhhhh!!! I can’t wait to read this!
I’m guessing that Shi Yi Lu will be released one whole story at a time. The good thing about this is that we won’t have to wait for some sort of closure. The bad thing is that there would probably be a long wait time between each story. Assuming each story has about 30 pages at a speed of 1 page per day, we can expect about one story each month if there’s no unforeseen trouble. Of course, Xia Da said that right now it’s taking her 2-3 days to finish each page, but it will be quicker once she’s decided on how to color these stories.
We’re approaching the end of the year (it’s September now but close enough), and Chang Ge Xing the drama should begin filming later this year. It was listed as the second-to-last production for 2017, so it’s probably gonna be in December. Hopefully, we’ll have more news by then.
Just wanted to aske how do you pronounce michael's and luciel's names?
I have written their names in katakana in previous art, that’s how you pronounce them. xD I am honestly unaware of how you write pronunciations, so it’s a little difficult for me to answer…
Luciel - ルシエル (Lu-shi-el) Michael - マイケル (Ma-i-ke-l)
I think it’s possible to pronounce their names in different ways. The only things important to remember is that “Luciel” is pronounces with an “S” sound, while “Michael” is pronounced as “Maikel” with a “K” sound.
I am… Not fluent in English, so I am sorry… This is a little hard… x3
