FUCK DO NOT GET ME STARTED!!!??? i think violet may be my fav queen of all time. i just…i have such a soft spot for her and she’s the one i’ve been most consistent stanning and i always, always go back to her. i admire everything about her. EVERYTHING. i admire her beauty, her strength, her wit, her intelligence, her drive, how well spoken she is, how unapologetic she is, how inspiring she is, EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING! i think she’s honestly one of the most visually intelligent people out there and i emphasize visual INTELLIGENCE because she’s not just a pretty face? bitch designs these high fashion creations that most drag queens could never dream of fabricating! she always looks like perfection in the most ethereal of ways and that’s a talent in itself. all her lqqks are so calculated and well thought out and well imagined! i would love to pick her brain tbh. i also love how driven she is and how she works so fucking hard to be the level of perfection that she is now yet she’s somehow always taking it higher? i die when people joke about her having no gigs because that couldn’t be further from the truth! BITCH IS FUCKING BOOKED? since she’s transcended the world of drag into the world of high fashion and burlesque, i feel like every esteemed person in the business wants to work with her and WHY WOULDN’T THEY?! she’s a fucking legend at 24 years old and she’s accomplished so much!!!!! i also wanna point out that she’s far from just a visual masterpiece or visual artist. her performances are nothing like i’ve seen before. her burlesque numbers or her AERIALS? GRRL!!!!! lastly though i love how smart she is and how well spoken she is. i read her interviews daily for inspiration because everything that comes out of her mouth is so cleverly worded and can literally spark movements! i love how vocal she is about queer issues - specifically trans exclusion, misogyny in the gay community and the lack of representation in non binary folk! violet is so unapologetically herself and she murders me with everything she does. i have all the love and respect in the world for her! she’s truly a gift to this world.
you know after the events in Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, Charleena wrote a murder-mystery/romance based on the events in the train.
and you know that she made all the characters thinly veiled versions of the real people on the train. and charleena needed a romance so she went for the two people that seemed to have the most “chemistry”
a few months later in a bookstore Joe Hardy is cracking the frick up reading the back cover of the new charleena Purcell in which “Miss Natalie Clue must uncover the murderer and capture the heart of rugged FBI agent Franklin Hardington.”
Things I think get overlooked in fanworks about each character in Team Voltron:
Shiro is fairly short-tempered and snaps at people very quickly if he feels like they crossed a line first (See: initial impression of Kolivan). In general, if Shiro doesn’t like you, he doesn’t mince words (early in s2e3, before he realizes Ulaz is helping him, and Shiro’s whole diatribe against Zarkon in s2e7)
Pidge overthinks to the point of panicking (see: s1e1 on the Green Lion’s planet) and a lot of her snapping is primarily defensive in nature- a happy and comfortable Pidge can be mischievous but usually with a very different tone. Much of her snide behavior deteriorates as she comes to trust the team more, though it makes a return if she’s upset or frustrated.
Keith responds positively to being hugged, but also awkwardly (Hunk bearhugs him in s1e2 and he freezes up and doesn’t know how to respond, but doesn’t pull away when Lance does. In s2e9, he and Shiro hug each other when parting ways, something we also see between Allura and Coran). It suggests that Keith is to a degree touch-starved and unsure of how to initiate or ask for intimacy.
Coran has a hell of a grudge on Zarkon (s1 finale, remarks that he’s been waiting ten thousand years for a shot at him) and probably has his own turbulent feelings about the fall of Altea that he’s likely downplaying for the benefit of the rest of the team, particularly Allura. In general, though, we have seen Coran get very angry very quickly if he feels like someone is disrespecting or threatening Allura.
Hunk is a sweetheart and likes to take care of his friends, but can be very suspicious of strangers- these seem related, as he’s the main one to bring up Lance’s near-death experience after s1e4 and 5 and voice it as a reason not to trust Rolo and Nyma.
Lance seems to deliberately control and to a degree calculate his reactions the most out of the team. Many times, he can be seen actively gauging others’ responses and modifying his behavior- in s1e1 on Earth he specifically brings up the Kerberos mission in private to see how Pidge reacts. That said, for all of his calculation, he actively looks for opportunities to be honest with people.
Allura appears to have difficulty admitting vulnerability to people she is unfamiliar with, and we see her most readily seeking comfort and voicing insecurities to those she is the closest to (Alfor, Coran, the mice) though she has been gradually opening up to the team. Especially if threatened or disquieted by something her response is to present as sterner and less affected than she really feels.
I never want to hear from any Caitlin fan again that Iris West is selfish. Iris found out she was dying, and five minutes later she was reminding people that Caitlin needed to be saved too.
When Iris was dying, Caitlin said, ‘even if I wanted to save Iris.” This is the woman that you call a hero. She had to be begged to save a woman that was the only person to speak up and tell everyone that Caitlin needed saving too.
Caitlin then kept the piece a secret and no one said anything whilst Wally got treated like crap by them.
Enjoy the fact that Caitlin and Barry stood alone at the end of the episode, because as usual, you care more about your crack ship standing next to each other than the facts that they are showing you that Caitlin is selfish, and she will screw over anyone to save herself. Ignore the fact that she had to be begged by Iris to save Barry, and then she tried to kill him, and then had to be begged to save Iris by Barry. What other hero has to be begged to save someone? Barry is there every week trying to not hurt people that are trying to kill him. Cisco is willing to die for the team. Joe puts his life on the line everyday. Wally and Jesse are out there taking risks. Iris is reminding people that Caitlin needs to be saved from turning bad when she is about to die. These characters are making decisions to save everyone. Caitlin is the only one that is out for herself.
It is not a one time kind of thing. This is every other week that Caitlin is showing herself. If you want to defend that, go ahead, if you want to think Caitlin is better for Barry, then go for it, just never refer to Iris, who’d said her own life isn’t worth Barry losing himself over, as selfish, because she has proven time and time again that she would do anything for the people she loves, including sacrificing herself. Own your favorites flaws, and stop romantisizing them.
why don't you like kathleen kennedy? shes the only female and she seems nice
it’s april 2017 and there are still people who dont know kk is a white demon
kk is an icon of white feminism.
when she doesn’t get involved directly, female characters’ looks get incredibly diverse (animated series or novels etc. although, we can’t say they treat women of color well.)
new female actresses who play lead roles, d ridley, f jones, and e clarke are all white brunette (just like her). this is my personal opinion but for me, f jones was the weakest part in rogue one because of her emontionless and soulless performance, but kk was the one who insisted on casting her and she’s very proud of it. we haven’t seen clarke’s performance in the upcoming han solo film yet but she’s already very famous for horrible eyebrow acting (even her fans admit it). tessa thompson and zoe kravitz, who also auditioned for clarke’s role, is obviously better than her.
(also, i think the rogue one novel was a bit better but the movie was… it focuses on the white woman, who didn’t care about the rebellion but only herself then becomes a hero. it’s not feminism when men of color are used to spotlight a white woman, especially when one of them has sacrificed everything for the rebellion from when he was a very young kid. when i heard jyn’s character was originally more like cassian i couldn’t stop groaning because THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER.)
‘for some reason’ she keeps thinking white brunette women are the most ideal people to get the roles. even if she’s doing it unconsciously, it doesn’t change the fact that’s racism. she’s a racist.
and when you are a racist you can’t be a feminist because feminism means you support all the women.
she seems very passionate when she talks about rey and jyn but when it’s about other actors who are men of color she suddenly becomes silent?? and she talks about this “girl power” a lot but when it’s about races, ethnicities and diversity she doesn’t say anything? it’s always the directors who sat next to her who speak about it, or actors of color themselves. her “girl power” only involves white women and yet she said star wars represented the world.
she was a producer of complete disaster : avatar the last airbender movie, where almost everyone got whitewashed, which means she learned nothing from her past.
Actually, she isn’t even a feminist. Every time someone asks questions about “girl power” in panels she gets obviously irritated. One time, she was even dismissive towards the person who asked it too.
characterization, filters, and characterization to be found in the lack of filters
Talking about Jane earlier got me thinking, you know, Jane is not at all the only character that uses this device to show off the less desirable traits lurking in the psyche of all these damaged teens. Like. So many characters have these lurking deep seated issues that stay hidden deep down because the characters are pretty good at projecting a less damaged and more together version of themselves.
If that sounds familiar it’s because it’s a fucking outrageously relatable quality and part of what makes the Homestuck characters RESONATE so much. Why they feel like they have all this dimension and depth that makes us grab on to them and never want to let go.
I’m just going to run through some examples here while I’m thinking about it. The first OBVIOUSLY since thinking about her is what got me going on this – Jane. Crockertier Jane removing the layers of self-imposed filter on Jane’s festering insecurity, entitlement issues, jealousy and so on. I’ve already talked enough about that today.
Grimbark Jade! You notice Jade says what she’s thinking WAY more easily while she’s mind controlled, and she still sounds like herself – she sounds kinda like she does when she’s owning Karkat repeatedly, doesn’t she? Because angry Jade has that same effect of pushing her nice girl filter aside and letting the angry witch (not a cutesy slur, her literal witch class) within fly free. Grimbark Jade tells us that behind that nice girl front Jade Harley actually thinks some pretty uncharitable thoughts sometimes, she just keeps a tight fucking lid on it because – well, don’t most people? Relatable as fuck.
Jadesprite! Since we’re talking about Jade anyway. Jade likes to think she has everything together, that her visions from Skaia and her scientific prowess and the tools her Grandpa left her are more than enough to handle everything that comes her way, she’s independent, she’s capable, she’s certainly never LONELY oh no of course not certainly never CRUSHINGLY OVERWHELMED by the responsibility of her own existence nah those are weak feelings for weak girls who aren’t as awesome as Jade! And then – Jadesprite. Why do you think Jade got SO ANGRY at Jadesprite? Because she was being confronted with something she knew deep down was a reflection of weaknesses in herself (totally normal ones that her later arc reinforced were a mistake to pretend weren’t there – Loneliness and fear and regret are all tied in with Jade’s character progression and learning how to deal with those things is where I imagine her arc would have gone if Homstuck’s ending hadn’t been the literary equivalent of chopping off a limb and cauterizing the wound.) Jadesprite is Jade without the filter of implacable strength Jade imposes on herself to fuckin cope with living on a hell island with the stuffed corpse of her grandpa who she grew up thinking literally killed himself at BEST. god damn
Davesprite. Dave Strider with a slow long agonizing depressing arc wherein he realizes his coolkid persona won’t make anyone think of him as their best friend anymore, and in the absence of the security that persona afforded him when he was The Real Dave he has no idea what to do with himself. He’s lost, he feels aimless, untethered, incapable of being happy – and yes, Davesprite is his own character, but you can still infer a lot from Dave’s character about him – for instance, how he completely ties his self worth up in how useful he is to his friends or how worthwhile they find him and has no idea how to even BEGIN the hard journey of looking within for worth instead of relying eternally on changeable external sources. Davesprite is Dave not WITHOUT a filter but certainly with a VERY DIFFERENT one.
Homestuck does this with almost every single damn character on its roster at some point. Shows a version of them with a different or lesser or completely missing filter to highlight flaws and issues and internal struggles of all kinds.
Homestuck is a damn deep dive into an exercise about analyzing nature vs nurture and what we’re predisposed to do and what comes from within and what is put upon us by forces out of our control, and how that line is blurry and messy and everyone has the potential to be either the worst or best version of themselves. Even Caliborn was given a choice. Hussie-The-Character explained it to him at great painstaking length.
There are so many other examples. Jasprose is Rose without a filter, and the way Jasprose goes around gleefully calling every hot girl she sees hot and delighting smugly in knowing more than just about anyone else and lording over the information and playing smarter-than-thou games – that tells us a LOT about Rose! A LOT about what sort of urges Rose tamps down on every day in an effort to just be fucking cool!
I bet you have things like this with yourself, right? Doesn’t everyone?
Tricksters! Look at how they act. They’re not themselves but there is plenty to glean from them. Jane immediately goes for Jake, the object of her desire, to pursue an exaggerated version of her idealized future. Trickster Jake is a passive fucking ragdoll who immediately acquiesces to everything everyone demands of him because their happiness becomes his happiness – Jake hates confrontation, so Trickster Jake is just a fucking doormat. Roxy goes for Jake AND Dirk because divorced from the guilt she normally feels for harboring desire toward either one of them she knows exactly what she wants! ETC ETC. Of course they would never do any of this shit if they weren’t high as balls and incapable of understanding the meaning of the word “consequence.” That’s the point. Seeing what they do in this situation is an interesting window in!
Brain Ghost Dirk is a version of Jake (yes, of Jake, not Dirk) without a specific filter Jake runs his own personality through before he’s comfortable presenting it to others, and you’ll notice, it’s EXTREMELY biting and critical sometimes. Jake knows what he’s about. He just buries it most of the time because that’s easier than dealing with it.
I could seriously keep going.
Homestuck loves to show us what our favorites do and say and ARE when basic filters go out the window. Those filters that most of us employ to make other people believe we don’t all have intrusive thoughts or bad desires or just plain old weaknesses we’re ashamed of and want to keep hidding at costs – or that we occasionally think things or think about doing things we would never ever ever do in real life are demolished or changed or temporarily suspended.
It’s brilliant tbh. It lets us see facets of characters that would normally never really get full spotlight reveals by their very nature, especially with protagonists.
Vriska vs (Vriska) – (Vriska) is just Vriska with some more self awareness and more willingness to let down her self-imposed filter and actually examine the shit she wants and why because watching Aranea fuck the timeline over out of motivations eerily similar to her own
hardcore shook her enough to develop in that direction.
(which makes sense since HER original motivations are copying Mindfang who IS alt-aranea lmao I love Homestuck) (Vriska) is still Vriska, it’s just a very very different lens through which to view her character.
blah blah blah blah etc there are so many examples
anyway I love Homestuck and good character writing what up
(Y/N) sighed as the writing appeared on her skin. It had read:
‘I got football captain!‘
with a smiley face drawn at the end. Pushing herself up from her seat, she made her way towards the bathroom in hope of getting rid of the ink incorporated into her skin. It had been the third time in a week that her soulmate had written to her and it had been the third time in a week she had ignored the words he wrote.
She didn’t want to push him away but she also didn’t want to be with Reggie Mantle, the guy, who on most days had an iQ lower than her six year old cousin. Sure, he was built like a God and sure, he had enough sporting ability to make up for the lack of hers but she couldn’t be with him. Of course, she couldn’t be with him, not when they spent ever waking moment disagreeing over the simplest things. She knew it was him, however she tried her hardest to hide her identity from him.
He had tried to figure out who the person he was destined to be with ever since he realised that they existed.
He was eight when he first realised that his soulmate existed. Unlike the rest of his friends, he didn’t have a name etched into his skin, neither did he have a countdown on the wrist of his prominent arm. To Reggie, there was no sign of him having a soulmate. Until the very day, he saw a messy sketch of what seemed to be a rose appear on his right forearm during math class. He gazed around the room, wondering if it was anyone he already knew. Every year since, on the exact date, a rose appeared on his right forearm.
The sign of his soulmate’s existence that caused him to reach out to them occurred when he was thirteen. He felt a pain in his ankle that caused him to drop to the ground in the midst of a soccer game, clutching it in hopes it would stop the pain.
Later that evening, he picked up the purple sharpie that sat atop of his wooden desk and pressed it against his skin, doodling a frowning face, following it with the words:
‘I hope u r okay.’
He sat waiting for a response from his soulmate, shaking his leg impatiently. He sat waiting for a response; after an hour of waiting, he attempted to contact her again, etching the words:
'ur probably asleep, i hope u get well soon’
and followed it with a doodle of himself.
She stared at his writing, only just noticing how messy it was. Analysing it closely, she realised it was his writing. It was Reggie Mantle’s writing. She recognised it from anywhere. Who wouldn’t recognise their lab partner’s writing?
It had been two weeks since Reggie had wrote to (Y/N) informing him of his new title as the captain of the Riverdale bulldogs.
She felt upset but she didn’t know why. She wasn’t that into Reggie. Looking down at her arm, she noticed a drawing of a sad face followed with the words:
She let out a small laugh at the words, deciding it would be an appropriate time to reply. After eight years of ignoring him, she finally replied to his words.
She sighed, maybe she had judged Reggie before even giving him a chance. “Oh god, what’s gotten you in this state? Is it Mantle?” Kevin spoke, earning his best friend’s attention. “So when are you going to fuck him?”
(Y/N) spun around in her chair and dragged herself toward him and smacked his arm. “I hate you.”
“Does he even know his infamous soulmate is you?”
“No and he’s not going to find out until we graduate!”
(Y/N) was about to join Kevin on her bed, when she felt a tickling sensation on her left forearm. She smiled at his response, his words making him seem like an excited child during Christmas.
Reggie looked down at his arm, smiling to himself. She had finally written back. “Dude, she wrote back.” he grinned “Andrews, she finally wrote back!”
“I’m happy for you, cap but coach wants us on the field.”
He spent all of practise counting down the minutes until he could reply to his soulmate. He was unsure whether his soulmate was a female or a male but it never really mattered to him.
After showering, he picked up a pen only to notice that his soulmate had drawn a small rabbit on her left wrist. For most of the eight years he knew of his soulmate’s existence, he had always thought that they were left handed, as the drawing of the rose always seemed to appear on his right forearm. He took his place next to Archie, waiting for coach Clayton to enter the locker room with the information about their next game.
Archie looked over at his smitten captain, knowing that there was no way he would be paying attention to a word their Coach had said, too infatuated with the new drawing on his arm. “She actually wrote back. What is she doing?” he mumbled to himself, pulling his phone out from the back pockets of his jeans, wanting to text her.
Reggie was pulled out of his trance as he heard Archie’s mumbled words, his eyes widening slightly, Archie must’ve known who his soulmate was. “She? You know my soulmate!”
“Reggie, calm down, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Reggie nudged Archie playfully “Tell me.”
(Y/N) could barely react before Kevin snatched her phone off her and answered Archie’s incoming call. She let out a groan, knowing that it would be related to Reggie.
“You’re writing back to Reggie? (Y/N), that’s a disaster waiting to happen.” Archie exclaimed as soon as she answered, causing Kevin to laugh. “You’ll never be able to hide your identity from him until graduation if you continue replying.”
“My god, Andrews, you sound like you’re in the midst of a mental breakdown.” Kevin scoffed “Plus, she’s only just started drooling over Mantle.”
“I’m coming over! I’m bringing food!”
Reggie sat in his car waiting for Moose to get back with their food. Looking at himself in the rear-view mirror, he noticed a bruise had formed on his bicep. Instantly, he picked up a pen and wrote to her, drawing a winking face
'how did u get ur bruise? hope you haven’t been fighting’
Within a few seconds, his soulmate had already responded.
'SORRY!!!! the door handle was a lot higher than i expected. hope you didn’t feel it.’
Reggie let out a small laugh, not even realising that Moose had joined him in the car.
“Dude, you’re whipped and you don’t even know who this person is. What if it’s some old dude who’s kidnapped your soulmate and is trying to lure you to his house?” Moose groaned. “You did order a steak burrito right?”
A new semester meant new classes, new activities. (Y/N) slumped into her seat during home room, Kevin to her right and Reggie sat behind him. He glanced up from his desk, only to be met with Kevin, whose head instantly shot back to face his best friend.
“Got a problem, Keller?” He spoke, earning a scoff from (Y/N) “You too, (L/N)?”
“Don’t inflate your ego any further there, Reginald. It might burst.” (Y/N) responded, turning back to face the front, not wanting to speak to him any further.
(Y/N) then realised the reason why she had been so hesitant to reveal who she was to him. It was because he was one of the most egotistical people she knew and the person she spoke to through her ink-stained skin was nothing like the person she knew.
As soon as the bell rang, (Y/N) pushed herself out in attempt to beat the crowd that would be gathering in front of her locker. As she rushed, she failed to weave through the desk, hitting her hip on the corner. She let out a groan, clutching her hip instantly.
Reggie felt the pain grow in his hip as he watched (Y/N) try to groan and walk the pain out. His eyes widening and a gasp falling from his lips.
Y’all are so ugly in this fandom. Y’all know damn well if Justin or Alex were responsible for Jeff’s accident then y’all would’ve made long posts talking about how they just made a mistake, but y’all calling Sheri a bitch, talking about how y’all hate her. It was fucked up that she didn’t report herself for running over a stop sign, but she’s still one of the most redeemable people on those tapes (besides Clay). She wasn’t threatening Clay like everyone else, and she never treated Hannah like shit, but there isn’t one post defending her.

Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it, no paper notices plastered on lampposts and billboards. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within these nocturnal black-and-white striped tents awaits an utterly unique, a feast for the senses, where one can get lost in a maze of clouds, meander through a lush garden made of ice, stare in wonderment as the tattooed contortionist folds herself into a small glass box, and become deliciously tipsy from the scents of caramel and cinnamon that waft through the air.
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child “unwound,” whereby all of the child’s organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn’t technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state, is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.

This reputation brings Prince Kai himself to her weekly market booth, needing her to repair a broken android before the annual ball. He jokingly calls it “a matter of national security,” but Cinder suspects it’s more serious than he’s letting on.

An episode where Pearl meets someone who acts like her could be interesting. Like they use their frail appearance and sad back story to get what they want from people or to stop people from critisizing them. Someone who won’t get over that one crush who moved on.
And at the end Pearl is getting sick of listening to them and either Steven or Amethyst goes ‘But pearl, don’t you do the same thing?’
And Pearl just has a big moment of self realization of what’s she’s done over the years. Her obsession with Rose and behavior against Greg.
It could end with the gems chasing the person away because now everyone’s just annoyed at them, and Pearl just kinda… thinks in the house and doesn’t do anything for a few days/episode because she’s still thinking.
And she starts being more observant when she starts doing her pity stuff and feels angry over Rose, she becomes more hesitant and really starts to think things over.
You know, character stuff that takes a long time to do.
