she's just like standing

anonymous asked:

have Genji/mercy ever run into unsupportive people in public (anti-omnic, anti-overwatch, etc...)

Yeah they have, more than a few times. In the weeks of UN hearings following the explosion at Zurich, the UN had to give Angela a security detail to escort her to and from the hearings. Like there was a while after Overwatch’s shutdown that Mercy had dyed her hair brown and was doing the whole ‘sunglasses in public’ thing to avoid recognition and confrontation with people and she was like, severely depressed and barely left her home for several weeks until there was this severe earthquake in Greece and like… she just couldn’t stand by and do nothing about it and that was how she first started getting into relief work. From there, there would be a lot less confrontation because at the end of the day, even though there are some people who are like “Don’t think what you’re doing is ever going to make up for what Overwatch has done” mostly the response to Angela Ziegler coming in to do relief work is…well… relief. Mercy’s field missions with Overwatch were largely medical aid in the wake of large-scale attacks and disasters, so while some people criticized her as a PR puppet for Overwatch, as Angela’s work went on, it became pretty clear to the public that Angela had joined Overwatch (while criticizing its militant approach to problems) for the sake of using its resources to do good.

Genji’s had a beer bottle hurled at his head in King’s row (some jerk mistaking him for an Omnic), and he’s experienced anti-omnic sentiments just by hanging out with Zenyatta numerous times. Like, it’s unclear how much of Blackwatch became public with the UN investigation, but I feel like if it was revealed that Genji Shimada was miraculously alive, Hanzo would have known about it by ‘Dragons’ so I assume Genji’s identity was still kept classified even in the midst of UN investigations. So most aggressions towards Genji tend to be more anti-omnic than, “Hey! It’s that dude from Blackwatch.” As I’ve said before, if you’re a very well known ninja, you’re probably not very good at being a ninja.

They’ve gotten some heckling while being together in public, but people are a lot less willing to be confrontational to two people than to single out just one, so it’s mostly just brief shouted harassment by people who don’t have the guts to follow through.

this girl at work has really pretty skin so i asked her what she uses and yallll….she said she dont use soap just hot water and when her pores are open she applies coconut oil i was just standing there like 😀

Yuri on Ice interview translation - CREA 2017/03 (p34-35)

Second part of the YOI interviews featured on CREA. As for the one with Kubo, more than “interviews” they are like “mini articles” that incorporate what the interviewed people said. The interviews are with Kenji Miyamoto (choreographer), Eiji Abiko & Junpei Tatenaka (figure skating animators), Yuuko Sagiri (original costume designer), Keisuke Tominaga (music producer).

Random note: thanks to this magazine I was finally able to know that Sagiri’s name is “Yuuko”. When I translated her interview on Pash I did lots of research but wasn’t able to find out the pronunciation so I used Yuiko because that was what came out searching for the name alone, but now it’s confirmed that it’s Yuuko so as soon as I have time I’ll edit that interview to fix it. I swear all magazines should be obliged to provide the pronunciation of names, because sometimes it’s really hard to find out how the kanji are pronounced when it’s not famous people with Wikipedia pages and such…

By the way, the issue of Pash coming out today (Feb. 10th) has an article I was really looking forward to (the second part of Kubo’s detailed commentary on each episode), so I’ll probably spend the night translating it when I get home from work. Also because I want to post it before the YOI all night event on Saturday (I’m going to the live viewing).

***If you wish to share this translation please do it by reblogging or posting a link to it***

The reality as expressed by 5 people who created “Yuri on Ice”

Reality #2: Choreography x Kenji Miyamoto
“The footage taken with the camcorder was the key to create realistic and powerful anime scenes”

Profile: From Hyogo prefecture. After retiring from competitive ice dance in 2006 he started working as a choreographer and commentator. With director Sayo Yamamoto’s “ENDLESS NIGHT” for the first time he was involved in creating figure skating choreographies for an anime.

The choreographies for all characters’ programs were created by choreographer Kenji Miyamoto. He created them integrating the music with the information he received from director Yamamoto and Kubo regarding the characters and their programs. What was different than usual is that the songs for the FS were 4 minutes long instead of 4:30 minutes.
“In the anime characters need less strokes to speed up, so it’s possible to use less ‘transitions’, the movements connecting different techniques. I cut down on those and made the programs more compact.”
Miyamoto was filmed with 4 fixed cameras and 2 portable camcorders as he danced all the programs, then the footage was edited into a multiframe video based on which the animated figure skating scenes were created.
“I believe that the footage taken with the portable camcorder, that filmed me up close, is what made it possible to create realistic and powerful tournament scenes.”
After watching the finished anime, Miyamoto commented that the characters’ monologues during their performances are realistic.
“When you are performing lots of things are whirling around inside your head. In my case it wasn’t words but still pictures, like photographs. I was happy that they expressed the athletes’ feelings.”

Reality #3: Animation x Junpei Tatenaka & Eiji Abiko
“The performances look realistic thanks to Miyamoto-sensei’s choreographies”

Profile: Animators working for the anime production company MAPPA. Specialized in sports and action scenes. They both created animation for director Sayo Yamamoto’s “ENDLESS NIGHT”.

Animation of the figure skating scenes was created by action specialists Junpei Tatenaka and Eiji Abiko. “It’s the first time that we digitally create 2D pictures after deciding the camerawork. It was very difficult because we had to figure out how to do everything”.
Tatenaka, who was already a fan of figure skating, says: “For the moments I believed to be the ‘highlights’ of a performance I would add 1-2 extra stills. This way, I was able to draw out a little what in the live footage only lasted an instant.” They actually made jumps much higher than they are in real life.
“While being aware that real skaters wouldn’t jump that high, I still wanted the scenes to be striking, therefore I was always looking for a good balance between realism and what could be allowed in animation.” (Abiko)
They both agree that Miyamoto’s choreography footage was the most important factor that allowed them to create realistic performance scenes.
“When there was a key point in the music, Miyamoto-sensei would pose with all of his body creating a beautiful line, from his fingertips to the tips of his toes. It was very easy to draw.” (Tatenaka)

Reality #4: Costumes x Yuuko Sagiri
“I think the only difference is that there were no budget restrictions (LOL)”

Profile: Ballroom dancing costume designer working for the ballet & dance supplies maker Chacott. She has designed figure skating costumes for athletes such as Nobunari Oda and Akiko Suzuki.

Yuuko Sagiri, designer of the athletes’ costumes, created the designs giving importance to functionality that would improve a skater’s performance and to elements that would make the character’s personality stand out, just like she does for real costumes. She chose materials, cuttings and decorations that would actually be employed in costumes used for real performances.
“Normally I objectively watch an athlete’s past performances to understand their level and what kind of movements they are skilled at, and this is then reflected in the design. This time I based the design on the characters’ setting materials, the information I received from the director and the choreography footage by Miyamoto-sensei. I think the only difference is that there were no budget restrictions (LOL).”
Regarding Yuuri’s costume, she mentions that she wanted to reflect the fact that he is psychologically weak and gains weight easily.
“I added shining decorations on his chest so that his face would look bright even when he is tense. The cuts on the waist are to make him look slim.”
Actually, she also designed a costume for Yurio’s exhibition. Sagiri said that she created the design thinking of what “Yurio would really want to wear”. We’d definitely like to see him skate with that costume!

Reality #5: Music x Keisuke Tominaga
“I added melody to the beautiful lyrics that is ‘Yuri on Ice’”

Profile: From Kanagawa prefecture. Music producer. He founded PIANO INC. in 2012 and is the current representative director. His main works include the Pocari Sweat 2016 commercial “Kimi no Yume wa, Boku no Yume.”, the TV anime “Zankyou no Terror”, etc.

When creating the music for this show, music producer Keisuke Tominaga constantly asked himself whether it was music you could dance to.
“I would move my hands, feet, my whole body, sometimes even checking the rhythm like a conductor or a dancer. Figure skating has many elements that resemble ballet, so to express the elegant movements of the body I used many tunes in triple time like waltz and bolero.”
Most of the classical and orchestra tracks were created by Taku Matsushiba, while the vocal tracks and modern band songs by Tarou Umebayashi. They worked on the music as a team, always communicating with each other.
“The world created by Kubo-san and director Yamamoto was like realistic and beautiful ‘lyrics’, and I feel that our role was to create a ‘melody’ for those lyrics. In fact, when I joined together Yuuri’s FS song “Yuri on ICE” and Victor’s recorded voice for the first time, the lines sounded just like the words of a song, and I can’t describe how moved I was. I believe that this strong, deep expression that you would not be able to obtain with music alone is what realistically affects the viewers.”

Bonus in case you haven’t seen it already: Sagiri’s design for Yurio’s exhibition program.

Something I really appreciate about the new BATB film is that the costumes managed to (1) pay perfect homage to the original color tones and styles as seen in the animation and yet (2) carry symbolic changes and account for characters’ personalities, while also (3) being period appropriate. Like, wow. Major kudos to the costume designer and associated staff on this one.

For example, let’s just talk about Beast/Prince wardrobe, which I find really interesting and beautiful. BATB begins with a dance, and the Prince is in this very dark, regal yet kind of gaudy clothing, standing out from the sea of women in white. (He’s also wearing a makeup mask, which is just another awesome layer of symbolism and era-appropriateness that I will not go into right now.)

Throughout the film, Beast’s clothes get progressively lighter: from dark, torn rags (like he’s a criminal, a prisoner in his own palace) to the iconic lighter blue suit at the dance…to the moment Belle declares her love and they’re both dressed in all white (in this case, a symbol of purity and absolution)…to the very end, where the Prince wears blue again, but this time it’s the lightest shade of blue we see him wear. This change also reminds me of the trailer, where the word “Beast” in the title grows lighter as it gets closer to the word “Belle”. Beast’s subtle clothing changes represent the changes in his disposition and character. His wardrobe follows the path of the curse, from its inception to completion, as the castle goes from dark to light, from winter to spring, from death to life.

The two other dance scenes are also important.

When Belle and Beast dance together for the first time, Belle is the one who stands out in that stunning yellow dress. When Beast lets her go, her yellow dress positively pops in an otherwise monochrome, snow-covered forest, like a beacon in the night. And as he watches her go, he returns to rags, representing his hope leaving him behind.

In contrast, when Belle and the Prince dance together at the end, they both stand apart from the crowd but for different reasons than before. Unlike their first dance, this time the Prince is the one who shines the most in an otherwise temperate crowd, which parallels the opening dance scene. Unmasked, the Prince is in a light blue and white suit, the opposite of how he dressed before; and yet, this ending suit almost matches how Belle was dressed at the beginning of the movie, in her classic blue and white dress. Meanwhile, although at first glance Belle’s mostly white dress at the end might make her appear like just another girl in the crowd, she really stands out due to the roses on her dress, like a physical manifestation of spring coming back to the castle and the curse being lifted.

Supergirl AU

Cat Grant knows her assistants are cheating, she just doesn’t know how yet.

She even knows the exact date it started almost two years ago, when suddenly her constant stream of incompetent aides began to improve, to last longer. All her life her assistants have been barely adequate, but for some reason the last handful have gotten sharper and sharper.

It’s been three weeks with this new one and, while his performance within CatCo is lackluster at best, he has yet to make a single mistake with her coffee or food orders. And if there is one thing Cat values more than all else its what she consumes; she spends all day creating media for the consumption of millions so what she herself takes in is of the highest priority.

This week she had a stress headache and she sent him off with a screech to get her some sustenance. Now she had very low expectations for this, so imagine her surprise when he comes back with a perfectly made bacon wrapped hamburger (her headache guilty pleasure) and a medium latte with just a dash of cinnamon.

There is no way on Earth that this Witt fellow should know about that. Her guilty pleasures are closely guarded secrets, and Cat Grant has never explicitly told anyone about her infatuation with bacon and cinnamon (both separate and together). And yet when she needed it the most, he just happens to get it exactly right. This assistant hasn’t even made it a month yet; there’s no way he knows this is a weakness of hers.

Which means there’s a snitch somewhere feeding answers to her assistants.

Headcanons for Trini?

1. She really loves cooking. She loves Food Network and has the biggest crush on all the female Chopped Judges. She spends hours messing around in the kitchen and even makes Kim special vegan sides of whatever she is making. Even though she grumbles about it the whole time.

2. She loves Kim. They’ve been dating for over a year and Trini cried Snotty Tears when Kim said “I love you.” It, of course, ended in a heated make out session.

3. She cries when she sees dogs and sometimes Kim is On The Lookout for them so Trini doesn’t go into a sobbing mess because she loves them so much.

4. She is a huge prankster and she has a current on going war with Zack. The score is 5-3 with her in the lead, of course. His hair is still pink.

5. She loves just chilling? Laying in the sun and gazing at the clouds, or laying on her bead and listening to music. She just really likes to Relax.

6. She can’t stand the fact that Kim is a vegan and is always staring distastefully at her salad while she is scarfing down her third hamburger because “you Need protein, Kim.”

7. She is a huge troublemaker at school, she just never gets caught. She has spray painted lockers, beaten up bullies, the whole works and has never gotten caught until she punched a certain boys tooth out. But they put it back in.

8. She hates being tickled and will literally fight whoever does it. It’s usually Jason and he has sported more than one black eye.

9. Movie nights with the Rangers are her favorite things besides her dates with Kim. They always end up with some stupid movie that no one pays attention to and probably end up playing Scrabble.

10. She is best best friends with Billy. She knows what it’s like to be judged and an outcast just because people consider you “different.”

Hi everyone. It’s good to be back. Today I want to discuss something very interesting and important about a character I love, Lorna Dane. The discussion will focus on Lorna Dane from Deadpool and The Mercs for Money (I only picked this book up for Polaris) therefore, I’m only going to include panels about her. First I want to thank Bunn and Coello who did an excellent job in executing Lorna’s characterization and her beauty. Polaris was really well done both in terms of writing and pencils. I did enjoy it very much :)

Wow. Lorna left many of us speechless because something surprising and crazy happened. Here Marvel once again, made Lorna a badass, menacing and intelligent leader. I like how Lorna and Domino interacted. The debate between them was so perfect that even Lorna uses words precisely like her father. Polaris has vowed to carry on her late father Magneto’s work. Also, I am very pleased with Polaris’ new costume and this is her what……50’s costume? Can’t keep track that’s how many costumes she has. Marvel not only gave her so many costumes, but made her a fierce leader a number of times.

Artwork of the beautiful, strong, confident, badass, and brave Polaris. The depiction tells it all. I really LOVE the Magneto inspiration the artist utilized to create it, from the helmet/tiara, to the overall composition of it, really LOVE IT a lot. @whatadouche-bag  was right about her tiara. It does have a vibe of a warrior helm. Now, let’s take a look on few other panels.

And when the Inhumans showed up, Polaris was the first in battle. She took the first stand on everything just like a true leader. What a ferocious warrior type, I LOVE IT. Those deep shadows on her face remind me so much of her father and no one in this world can deny who is the Queen of Mutants :)

One thing I would like to clarify about this panel here is that the girl with the green Mohawk is not Storm. There were people confusing her with Storm because of her Mohawk, eyes and attitude. Even though I wouldn’t blame them because ironically, in the cover of this issue, it showed her with white hair and not green. I assume this was why they were thinking it was Storm. But what a surprised seeing a green Mohawk when we were expecting to be like the cover depicted. I wonder if Marvel did this on purpose lol. I wonder what Marvel is trying to say about a new girl named Sheath (who might show up sometime soon in the future) with green Mohawk. My only thought would be Marvel’s mocking Storm. “A girl with Storm hair’s style and Polaris’s hair color” Can this be an indication to show how Polaris might look like with a green Mohawk? A Sheath is cover for the blade of a knife or sword (pretty much that’s what she was wearing). She doesn’t show any abilities and/or never shows in description what her ability is. Only that she’s more of a combat/agility who fights with knives and nothing more.

Anyway, the next panel is even more amazing.

Every single one of them were matching their perfect combat. Polaris went to the powerhouse guy called, Lash. I guess she knew he was the hard one but Look at Lorna with her magnificent beauty and very Magneta. Reasons to believe Lash is the strongest (aside from karnak) was because of this

There was nothing negative that I can point out. Of course, some might find something trivial as usual but here you can’t deny the awesomeness of Lorna Dane. Nothing minor in either both issues #7 and #8 of Deadpool. The story is pretty solid, which is what I’ve come to expect from Cullen Bunn on anything he writes. I like the fact that Marvel’s Splash Page is proudly introducing the powered Lorna Dane in both issues :) Marvel left Bunn to depict Lorna as her father’s image to let everyone knows that whether we like it or not, she’s Magneto’s daughter. Also so new readers get to know the Powerful mutants that’s about to become something much bigger in the future. It’s one of the reason why Lorna was dragged in to one of the most popular comics. Marvel is giving us a hint of what a future Polaris might look like. Who took the opportunity to stand up for mutant rights.

Even though Negasonic went back and made sure the fight in the sewers, which would prove lethal to Deadpool (is that even possible), never happened, this issue still gives us a glimpse into a possible future for Lorna. Strong, confident, taking up her father’s mantle. She will pick up where her father left off, continue his wishes, and more than likely come into her own as a leader. Even though she has already led on several occasions.
