The Mechanics of the Language of Love
Holy Robots is about authenticity and artifice. The sequence that follower the alchemist poems is titled ‘Paper Flowers’. The bard lists all manner of matter that accumulates on the fallen. She sees the paper Chamomile flower sadly shed its petals into the water. She writes of faith and how that faith is a matter of mildew and rust. We love that which lingers, but it is our taint. Our complaint is vain, because what we regard as essential is in fact a paper fake. We do not exist in the way we imagine that we ought to: that soul, which your life’s quest has been seeking to define, is a construct of the media, the movie industry, the paper towel manufacturers’ marketing team. We get sold it all. We queue to buy. It is no more real than the beloved robot’s paper heart, which it wears as a medal. I pedal away on a cardboard bicycle.
