BODY ONCE TOLD ME

The Ghost Writer

Part One || Part Two || Part Three

Part Four of a semi on-going series.

For @dirty-bean, who was traumatized tonight and needs some angst to wipe it out of her mind. I hope this suffices!

Doctor Joanna Noble was completely out of Rose Tyler’s league.

It was pretty obvious, of course. While Rose made enough to get by, and had amassed a bit of a reputation in her field, she was hardly a genius.

Dr. Noble, meanwhile, was a famous astrophysicist who could almost rule the world, if she’d had any desire to do so. She was an absolute genius, she could do anything she wanted, get any job she wanted, with the snap of her fingers.

It was easy to see why Rose had fallen for her. And even easier to see that it would never work out.

So how’s the book going?

So awhile back I picked up the first volume of the Danmachi spinoff LN in a buy two get one free sale thinking that it was a manga. I was initially disappointed because I didn’t really want a LN at the time, but since I bought it I figured I might as well go ahead and read it.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s certainly not the pinnacle of fantasy writing, but I was engaged in the story and wanted to know what was going to happen next. I appreciate that in the spinoff it focuses on Aiz and her familia doing badass things in the dungeon rather than Bell being a newb and getting stronger. Aiz is already basically a god among men, and it lets the story go somewhere different than the original.

While the writing is for the most part fairly simple (though I suspect this is partly because of it being translated and also that LNs are typically aimed at a younger audience and tend to not use a lot of advanced Kanji, which probably translates to the somewhat punctual and simple sentences that LN translations seem to have) the author has a real knack for describing large scale tactical battles. Sure Aiz is pretty OP and well wreck things, but in the really lower levels of the dungeon if they don’t work together and have a strong battle plan they’re just gonna die.

I also appreciate that in the LN the world is fleshed out a lot more. World building is one of my favorite things in a show or book, and the Danmachi anime didn’t go into too much depth about the various things. The LN goes into much much more depth about how all the systems work, the various familia, cool little things about the world and so on. Also the dungeon is just fucking cool. Each floor can be completely unique, with almost no restrictions placed on what it has to look like or be which leaves the author with incredible freedom to dream up the wildest floors they possibly want.

I wasn’t really expecting to enjoy this book very much, but it’s a solid fun read. Something like a 6-7/10 if I’m going to give it numbers. If you liked Danmachi at all, or sort of liked it but wanted a different view of the world this is a nice book to pick up. Only the first volume has been officially translated, but they seem to be coming out with new official translations every couple months. I’m sure there are fan translations floating around too, but I haven’t looked for them.

So ya, fun book. There is an anime adaption scheduled sometime this year too. I think next season, but maybe the one after. That should be fun.

AU (technically an AU of an AU?) where in the Bad Future from TAT, Wuya and Jack are ruling the world together, just like she proposed when they first met (and all the times she said things like “…then together, we will rule the world!”)

  • Isabel: Elena, you have a choice here. You can either understand that this is just a kid talking to me in the cafeteria...
  • Elena: I'm gonna do whatever you say next.
  • Isabel: This is so innocent!
  • Elena: Honey, big sisters don't see anything as innocent. We see it as... what's the opposite of innocent?
  • Naomi: [raising her hand] Right here!

She makes broken look beautiful
He makes struggle look strong
They are just trying to survive in this world

She rules the world and tears herself apart
He cares for the world and not for himself
Every day they give something away

But together they fit
the broken pieces of a puzzle forming a beautiful picture
They draw strength from each other

headcanon of madara with a teenage daughter?! (:

Lord help this child. Lord help Madara.

  • Madara is one who made sure that he raised a strong girl, because there is no way in hell he was going to allow his daughter to be weak and at the mercy of the world and others; she’s not there to be taken advantage of by others, she’s there to take advantage of others. He taught her to go out there and take what’s hers and to never bow down to anyone. So going along with that, by the time she’s in her teens she just an absolute queen who could rule the world if she so pleased: beautiful, feisty, powerful. Madara’s kinda created a monster, but she’s just so strong and everything he would want out of a daughter that he can’t complain.
  • Very protective over her, even though he’s made her strong enough to fend for herself. He’s lost most of his family, so that makes his daughter a very critical part to his life now, and if anything were to happen to her, he would blame himself. Now, it’s not even missions that he becomes territorial over her. If she’s sent out on missions, yes, he worries about her, but it’s mainly when others within village get too close to her that he becomes defensive over his daughter. He doesn’t want her to be treated as he has been in the past, just because she is his daughter. He doesn’t want her to face that same discrimination/hatred that he has faced, so he keeps a very watchful eye over her.
    • Absolutely despises Tobirama being anywhere around her. It’ll be a cold day in hell when he allows Tobirama and his daughter to be alone in the same room.
  • He’s absolutely point blank with her when it comes to speaking with her; there is absolutely no sugarcoating anything. His child needs to be exceptional, and if she’s not doing good enough, he will tell her without any reservation. Now, this may seem a bit cruel, but she’s grown up with it. His daughter doesn’t see this as mean, she sees it as she needs to improve, there is no other option; she’s a stubborn one, and so failure is not a possibility, especially with Madara watching.
    • It’s because of this style of parenting that she is at the level at which she is. She knows her father, and her father is someone who does not have the time or will to deal with a mediocre child.
  • He really likes seeing her fight in the practice grounds or during chunin/jonin exams, especially if it’s against one of Tobirama’s pupils or a strong opponent, because she’s a force to be reckoned with, and it’s seldom that someone can truly beat her. Even if she’s about to be beaten, she will still stand up and keep on fighting until her enemy is done for. It doesn’t matter if she’s covered in blood or nearly out of chakra, she doesn’t stop until she has victory, and this just makes Madara so prideful. Every time she takes someone out, Madara has this little smirk across his face, because that’s his daughter right there, no one else’s.
  • She’s most certainly one of  those girls who you’re lured in by, but you know damn sure that they could cut you to pieces at any moment.
  • I can kinda see her being a bit of a trouble maker? But she doesn’t hide it at all from Madara, she almost kinda brags about it to him? It drives him insane, because some of it he knows that he should reprimand her for it, but if she’s breaking boys hearts and making sure that people know that she’s a threat, can he really be angered with her?
    • “Here dad, I got you some of the expensive vodka.”
    • “Where did you get this? You’re not old enough to buy liquor.”
    • “I know, I stole it-”
    • “Teen Uchiha, you cannot steal-”
    • “Oh, stop. I stole it from Tobirama. Replaced his with salt water.”
    • “…”
    • *Knows he should tell her that was wrong, but Tobirama probably deserved it and the fact that she was able to sneak into Tobirama’s liquor collection is pretty impressive…*
    • “I knew you’d understand, daddy. This is what Tobirama gets for giving my mission away to some idiot who’s going to get killed on it.”
    • *Mads just nods* “Remember dinner’s at 7…”
  • When it comes to boys, Madara had raised her to know her worth, so she’s not one who really gets into relationships in her teenage years, because she already knows that the mentality of the boys her age is not where she wants it to be. She seeks someone more mature than those her age, so for the most part she refrains from dating in her teenage years, so Madara didn’t have to deal with scaring some teenage dude.
    • OK BUT ONE TIME WHEN SHE WAS LIKE 18 SHE ALMOST STARTED DATING A 26 YEAR OLD AND MADARA ACTUALLY LOST HIS FUCKING SHIT.
  • Normally, she obeys her father, but if they get into a heated argument, both of them are so stubborn and both will put up a fight. There will be yelling and screeching; it just won’t be a good night in the Uchiha Compound. Eventually she does back down, because there’s no use at trying to win against Madara, but still, she has a personality like his, so she tries. Maybe one day she’ll succeed.
  • She’s definitely a daddy’s girl, and she’s almost always seeking his approval. That’s probably one of the weakest points in her character, because she needs that approval from Madara to be able to keep going. Madara is definitely a strict and hard father, but she’d be absolutely lost without him.

Maeve’s Goal

I see a lot of posts saying Maeve is in league with the Valg and will turn Aelin into a Valg puppet. However, Maeve fought with Brannon to defeat the Valg way back when the Valg first came to the world. She and Brannon were allies until he took the Wyrd Keys and fled to Erilea. Maeve wants power, she wants to be the most powerful being in the world. Erawan wants the same, he wants to rule the world. They are in direct conflict with each other.

Maeve will use Aelin, the only thing that can destroy the Valg efficiently and thoroughly,  to clear the way for her rise to power with the Wyrd Keys and the Scion of Mala Firebringer at her disposal.

Maeve wants to rule the world and she’ll use Aelin to do it.
