she needs a vacation from her life and all its drama

i expected to do a rundown of book reviews before school starts but i didn’t read anything during vacation. i half-blame kdramas. i half-blame the burnt out feeling i experienced when the semester concluded. there’s that, and i’m really sorry for my main blog because it has been neglected this holiday season even if i promised i wouldn’t put it aside anymore. i’m so bad at keeping up with it.

nonetheless, i want to share some thoughts i have about some kdramas i watched (and finished) this holiday season because i loved a bunch of them and i just want to talk about them.

1. W: Two Worlds- the first one I decided to binge-watch. the chemistry between the characters of this drama was A++ also, i took interest in it because of the world it promised in its synopsis. nonetheless, it didn’t disappoint. everything in this drama was obviously so well-though of. although i’m not a fan of the female lead character, i loved kang chul’s character and that was enough to keep watching the drama till the end. i tackled this drama expecting a romantic love story but it isn’t much of that because it’s really action and suspense packed. anyway, i realized that too late to turn back from my interest in the world in this drama. 4.5/5

2. Cheese in the Trap- the setting of this drama is just so relatable because the characters are in college. kim go eun is an acting goddess. hats off for both park hae jin and lee sung kyung. nam joo hyuk is an adorable human once more. this drama had great acting and a great story rolled into one. it would only seem light at first but the story gradually becomes darker as it progresses. this drama gets your mind working because of how it drops its foreshadowing and all that so you know that this is a well thought out story. 7/5

3. Oh My Ghostess- this one only started to hook me around the middle part. but i’ll say it was great to watch. i was sincerely rooting for park bo young’s character that i didn’t fancy the parts with kim seul gi’s character possessing her and seducing jo jung suk’s character– and that’s quite a lot of parts. that doesn’t mean i hated kim seul gi in this, it’s just that i really, really wanted to see things work for chef sun woo and bong sun. this show, nonetheless, challenged park bo young, obviously, because she was technically doing two roles in one drama. and she did a great job!! also, it’s impossible to not fall in love with jo jung suk who was every second lovable and adorable in this drama. i also discovered another favorite actor in this drama which is kwak si yang. 4.9/5

(everyone needs a kwak si yang smile in their life. also, because the next kdrama i’m going to mention has si yang in it)

4. Second to Last Love- adult romance and family drama. not a lot of people know about this drama but apparently, it aired the same time as scarlet heart ryeo and jealousy incarnate in SBS. i watched this just because of the promise that kwak si yang is in this drama. and he is!! kim seul gi being an amazing actress in this and sharing the screen with kwak si yang is a big bonus. i fell in love with him during oh my ghostess and i looked for dramas where he acts in and this is one of them. he’s the second lead in this drama and he did a terrific job in it. i’m a new fan!! anyways, this drama isn’t the usual thing to watch if you’re looking for oppas with hot bods to scream about. it’s a feel-good drama with plot twists so it’s not boring and not very light either. this is the quality and kind of drama that i hope filipino family dramas would achieve. even if it has a sad, dark back story, it is still relatable which makes it speak to audience. 3.8/5

4. Cinderella and the Four Knights- the title should be enough warning if you’re not into common and overused storylines. it already has cinderella on it so you already know what to expect right?? the story seriously reminded me of wattpad stories where a mistreated, poor, golden hearted girl’s life turns around 360 degrees because she meets this rich old man who lets her live with his super handsome and super bratty heirs. it just saddened me that it’s the case because jung il woo and park so dam who were both great actors. i think their acting was what really pulled me into finishing this series. eitherway, the other characters were too simple in a black and white way too so that didn’t impress me. i gave this drama a chance because i wanted to see if they’ll do something innovative with the cinderella concept but no. it wasn’t what i got. i continued watching it nonetheless because the acting was good, and i was looking forward to the happy ending of this drama that’s why i kept watching it. 2.5/5

some other stuff i’d like to mention:

-pls go ahead and watch weightlifting fairy kim bok joo. it didn’t really get the rating it deserved during its run but it has a promising story and great characters and talented actors. this is a very light but very well thought of drama. i talked about it on this blog a couple of times already and you’re probably tired of me saying it but go anead and marvel at the beautiful lee sung kyung and nam joo hyuk.

-goblin is a huge hit because it has a stellar cast, a stellar concept and a stellar story. i think it rose to popularity because of the leads but it is so much more than that. i’m looking forward to seeing more of this drama. huge bonus if you like aesthetically pleasing shows. i know a lot of kdramas have pretty cinematography but this one is just one of the best i have ever seen. i will always give this one a 10/10.

You asked for prompts, if you're still interested - BAMF!Stiles that shows everyone that he doesn't need saving, especially from Peter (who's simply smitten). Have a great day!

The best helping hand is at the end of your own arm.

Stiles can say without a doubt that he has never been the strongest or the fastest or the smartest, but he can also say that he has never needed to be saved either. He does that by himself just fine, thank you very much, because he may not be the est anything, but he’s strong enough, fast enough, smart enough and, essentially, everything enough to take care of himself and the people he cares about.

And if he isn’t, well, he finds a way, he learns, he gets better.

Okay, okay, he has to admit it takes him embarrassingly long to kick his ass into gear, but excuse him if the sudden knowledge of the existence of a whole new world has left him floundering for a bit… specially with attacks raining left and right on him apart from his usual school drama.

But enough is enough and it’s time to get his ass into gear already. He draws the line at being kidnapped and tortured by a geriatric fascist and having to sacrifice his poor Roscoe to save people that didn’t appreciate it afterwards, fuck you very much. Because Stiles is not like this, he doesn’t let things catch him off guard. Where he’s concerned, pre-emptive strike may as well be his middle name. Or if he does get caught off guard (because he may not be the smartest but he knows it), he always has backup plan after backup plan lined up to execute. In short, pre-emptive strike may be his middle name, but forearmed is his third.

With that in mind, when he can finally move without having his whole body protest loudly in pain, he orders three different rare species of aconite (ones that he knows will survive in California’s weather) and he goes in search of his mum’s gun. His dad gave it to her when Stiles was about five years old because a twerp that was angry at his dad tried to take it on his family. Needless to say his dad took steps to have them as safe as possible when he wasn’t there to protect them and, despite her vehement protests, took his mom to the shooting range after making her get a license until she could hit on the target every time. Then he got her a Glock 19 (smaller and lighter than the 22 that his dad has in his safe) and a full case of 9mm hollow-point bullets. His mom wasn’t happy at all, because she was against guns, so without telling him, she hid it where she was sure Stiles wouldn’t accidentally find it, bought an almost identical BB handgun and went on with her life as normal. His dad never found out and since he never had the heart to go through her things after she died (Stiles was the one that painstakingly slowly moved everything to the attic), he never took the gun.

In fact, Stiles is pretty sure he doesn’t even remember it, which works just fine for him, because he would have had to steal the one in his safe or find a way to acquire one illegally otherwise.

It’s painful, both physically and mentally, and he ends up filthy in the process because neither Stilinski has set a foot up there since Stiles brought the last of his mom’s belongings up while his dad was passed out in front of a bottle of whisky. It takes him veritable hours to find both guns and the extra bullets and pellets hidden in a box full of knitting patterns and needles and he flees the moment he has it in his hands.

He takes a shower and then filches his dad’s cleaning supplies to take care of the gun. He hides it and takes her mom’s BB handgun to practice in the backyard, because he can get access to more than enough pellets but can’t afford to waste actual bullets. He has good enough aim but he has to be better for what he has in mind.

When the wolfsbane arrives he sets out to work with it. Because he’s a vengeful bastard, he fills the empty space in the bullets with four different mixes of the three aconite he has and then seals the opening, careful to not mess up with its balance. He puts a tiny mark on each bullet’s case to know which is which just in case an accident happens and then fills the two empty magazines he has alternating the kind. This way, even if someone manages to take the gun from him, they have a quarter of probability of actually getting the cure and three-quarters of poisoning themselves even more.

He tries to work out the be a spark thing but it’s an utter failure other than for his ability to make the mountain ash function enough to make a barrier. The Internet doesn’t help, no matter how much he tries, so he reluctantly goes to Deaton. The cryptic man talks in circles for fifteen minutes, gives him another pouch of mountain ash and then shows him where the door is. Stiles mentally gives the man a big fuck you very much and moves on to greener pastures.

He trains. Trying to get stronger is an exercise in futility when one’s average opponents can lift a car one-handed without even breaking into a sweat, so he has to get smarter. Getting faster seems like a moot point too, but again, if he’s smarter about it, it will help. And so, he concentrates on agility, on falling without hurting himself, on jumping without fear out of harm’s way. Self-defense seems like a good idea, but without anyone to actually practice on (because Scott is in despair land being consoled by his new best friend Isaac and he hasn’t called since summer vacation started… and Stiles is salty enough about it to not call himself) he’s had to be content with just memorizing the moves.

A month into summer vacation, he learns from his dad that Erica and Boyd are still missing and he frowns.

It’s not like he cares about them -Erica gave him a concussion with a part of his own car, Boyd treated him like an irritating pest and, more importantly, they both left him behind after he helped them out of the Argent’s basement- but he heard them talking about going back to Derek last time he saw them and he doubts they’re willingly putting their parents through a calvary while hiding cozily with their alpha after a whole month. Which can only mean one thing: there’s more supernatural shit about to go down.

He decides to go to talk to Derek anyways. He doesn’t fancy being pushed against walls just because the werewolf can’t control his temper enough but at this point it’s not like he has any other options and he needs to know if he’s being paranoid or if his hunch is right to decide how to proceed.

As luck would have it, Derek is not the one at the loft.

“Are you stealing those?” He asks with one cocked eyebrow.

“Why, Stiles, hello to you too,” Peter drawls. “FYI you can’t steal what’s already yours.”

“Since you’re officially dead, you don’t actually own anything, though.”

Stiles bends into an exaggeratedly pompous half-bow before turning serious and asking without preamble. “So, Erica and Boyd?”

Peter cocks his head as if he’s found a particularly interesting puzzle and then smirks. Stiles braces himself.

“What do I get out of this?”

“Your continued survival?”

Peter laughs heartily and then smirks again. “Ah, I knew I liked you for a reason. What do you know about the alpha pack?”

Oh, boy.

“Say, Peter,” he muses after the man brings him up to speed, “how much better is a werewolf’s sense of smell and hearing compared to the ones of a normal wolf?”

Peter pauses and looks at him carefully, with an unholy gleam on his eyes. “Practically the same.”

“Huh. Interesting. See you, creeperwolf.”

And Stiles unceremoniously leaves.

So, according to Peter, they have combed the preserve and found nothing, which means that they must be hiding in one of the abandoned buildings around Beacon Hills or they would be drawing too much attention (if what Peter says of some of the members’ appearance is true) to themselves. There can’t be many of those around Beacon Hills, right? It’s a small town after all.

Peter is at the loft too when Erica and Boyd crawl their way back with a surprising addition in tow. Derek and Isaac gape for a moment before hugging them tightly. Peter hovers at the fringes because the first thing that comes out of his nephew’s mouth when Cora looks at him is he killed Laura.

(It shouldn’t smart this much that Cora, whom was left behind just like Peter, stays put.)

They explain what happened… or what they know anyways. Cora was already captured by the time Erica and Boyd were imprisoned in the bank’s vault. They were kept in a mountain ash circle and no moonlight would reach them, so they were slowly losing their minds. The alphas would rough them up every day and barely feed them. Then, today, just after they had been paid a quite painful visit, shots (the muffled kind that suggested a silencer) and screams started and continued until just one heartbeat remained. Whoever it was, they moved around a lot for a while and then they stood still. Then, several hours later, more shots and screams erupted before silence reigned. Once again, the person moved around for a bit before coming to the vault’s door. They opened it but the werewolves didn’t dare come out for fear of being shot too. However, just after leaving the door unlocked, the person left. After a while, Cora dared to peer outside and found the mountain ash line disrupted. Outside their former prison, there was a lot of blood painting the tiles and some walls, but no bodies at all. They hightailed out of there.

Five alphas that have annihilated pack after pack all around the country, taken down in a matter of hours by one single person. One person with enough steel in his core to not panic about having to dispose of five bodies when it’s not even fully dark out now. Peter feels giddy with want.

(Unfortunately, nothing ever falls on Peter’s lap, so if he wants, he’s going to have to make sure he gets it himself.)

He slips out stealthily and wonders where his dear boy is thinking to hide the bodies. The answer is the Preserve, of course, so he makes a guess of where exactly that might be in there and then he takes off running. Then he thinks about it, stops to grab some curly fries (he sneers in disgust at the grease that seeps through the paper bag) and then he heads out again.

He finds Stiles grunting as he drags one body to a very deep pit that has been obviously prepared beforehand. Peter can’t help the broad grin that splits his face. He grabs one leg and hauls it up one-handed and Stiles starts a little, letting go of the body to put him at gun point. Peter just tosses Kali carelessly to the pit and hands him the curly fries. Stiles blinks surprised for a moment and then rolls his eyes, holstering the gun. Peter leaves him there munching happily at the greasy monstrosities and goes to grab the last two former alphas to toss them to the pit. Then he helps the teen dose them with a concoction that has him sneezing the whole time before filling the hole with the soil that was separated to the side. Very cleverly, the topmost part of it has been carefully taken so as to not disrupt the grass on it, so when they put it back in its place, it looks as any other patch of forest floor.

Peter wants, he wants so bad.

He wants this ruthless yet caring boy. He wants his resourcefulness, his cleverness, his loyalty. Hell, he wants his cheekiness, his rough edges, his always running mouth and his stupidly spastic ways.

“Congratulations,” he says instead. “But what about the darach?”

“The whassit?”

“The dark druid that has been preparing for a ritual on the Nemeton,” Peter states simply.

Stiles stops where he was folding the newly clean tarp he used so that no evidence was left on his jeep. He looks at Peter, gaze penetrating and unwavering.

(He wonders if he’s given himself out, if it’s too clear that he makes people want to keep him around by making himself useful and indispensable, and he fidgets inwardly.)

“Isn’t this something Deaton should notice right away?” Stiles asks suddenly and Peter blinks surprised.

“Huh,” he muses. “Maybe we should pay him a visit.”

Peter grins.

Why {Jongdae Angst-Part Two}

Part 1

“Yah!” Kibum snaps exasperatedly, “___ ____, you need to eat!”

“I’m not hungry.”

He gives me an ‘I don’t give a shit’ look and wags a finger warningly at me.  “Don’t make me force–,”

“But its chicken!” Jinki interrupts Kibum, who of course shoots him an offended look, but Jinki ignores it in favor of focusing solely on me.  “It’s fried chicken!”

“Yes, Jinki-oppa, I know, but I’m not hungry.”

It Only Takes One Time (Part 6)

Hey guys! I’m working hard on trying to get some writing cued up because I am going on vacation for a week and will not have internet! So pardon my absence, but this chapter is long over due.

Ya’ll want the baby to be a boy or a girl?

 Part 5

Warnings: Swearing, little bit emotional

It was hard. I admit it, it was so fucking hard. Deciding whether or not I should text Dan back, became a battle with myself.

Did I really need to? Yes.

Did I really want to? Yes.

Could I do it? No. Every time I tried typing a reply, I couldn’t bring myself to press send. My mind went crazy every time I thought about what he would reply with. So, I decided that just for one day I wouldn’t deal with this.

One uneventful day to myself. Catherine was at work, I didn’t have to study, and it was just all good. Or at least I could pretend.

The first little bit of the day was spent with me cleaning up the apartment. It was honestly a mess since Catherine and I had been neglecting the chores.

After cleaning, I did some laundry. A lot of my clothes were starting not to fit me, so I was wearing the ones that did over and over again. There was less I was wearing, so that meant more washing.

After doing laundry, I took a nap. Could you blame me? The baby took all of my energy and to add to that, I was emotionally drained.

I woke up to the door bell ringing. I figured it was just Catherine, who’d more than likely forgotten her keys again, since she did that at least twice a week. I lazily got up and tied the strings of my sweatpants and rubbed my eyes. I was so groggy that I felt almost disoriented. I twisted the knob of the front door and opened the door wide open.

“Y/N…” I heard a masculine voice say. I looked up to see two very tall and dark figures staring back down at me. Great, Dan AND Phil were here. My drama free day wasn’t even halfway done and now I had to deal with this shit. Who am I kidding? Could I ever really have a stress free day?

“Oh…” Was all I could force out of my mouth. I awkwardly put one hand on the door, and one hand on my hip.

“Sorry for just showing up… Erm…” Dan rubbed the back of his neck and cleared his throat. He tried to find his words before Phil interrupted.

“Can we come in?” Phil looked equally as awkward as Dan, but far more agitated. All I did was nod and step out of the way so they could step inside.

Once they took off their coats and hung them up, I led them into the living room. They both sat adjacent to one another and could only look at their feet.

“Sorry that it’s freezing in here.” I sighed, going up to the thermostat and turning up the heat. “Catherine and I haven’t been coming in here often so we just haven’t used the heater.”

“Don’t worry about it, I didn’t even notice.” Dan shrugged. That was bullshit considering he’d just zipped up his jacket and shoved his hands in his pockets. He and Phil were just trying to be nice, and while that was appreciated, I really wasn’t in the mood. One day was all I needed away from this whole mess. One fucking day.

“Alright, either of you want some tea?” I offered, just wanting to get out of the room. The two men exchanged glances and shrugged.

“Sure, sounds good.” Phil nodded his head forward.

After drinking some tea, and awkward small talk, Dan finally gathered some courage to speak up about the elephant in the room.

“I want to be in the baby’s life, no matter what.” He sat back and crossed his legs. I shrugged and sighed.

“Dan, I know. But there’s just so many things that make this whole situation complicated,” I began. “For starters, I still don’t even know that keeping it is actually a good idea. I don’t know if I’m going to move out and live on my own, or whether or not I’m going to keep going to school. Dan, I’m having so many inner conflicts right now.”

“I can help you with all of that, though. We’d have help raising the baby. Between me and you, Catherine, Phil, our families, and even Marie-“

“I don’t want my baby calling another woman ‘mom’, Dan. I get that she’s your girlfriend and all that, but I probably wouldn’t even be comfortable with anyone but Catherine just holding him or her.” At this point, Phil awkwardly scrolled through something on his phone. He didn’t need to be here, and I felt so bad that he was listening to this.

“Not even its father?” Dan scooted to the end of his seat and his cheeks started turning red. I was frustrating him, but he was also frustrating me (in more ways than one. Hello, hormones exist.)

“You know what I mean.” I retorted. His jaw muscle twitched and he ran his fingers through his hair.

“You’re being really fucking unreasonable. This kid is just as much mine as yours, so I deserve to actually be included in raising him or her and contribute to your well being. We aren’t together but we did this together, and we have to be a fucking team to be parents.”

“This is all so fucked up. What you’re saying may sound reasonable to you, and I understand that. However, try being in my shoes. I’m pregnant and I live with a roommate. I go to university and I have to work hard to maintain myself on my own. My mother doesn’t even know I’m not a virgin. Everything seems so easy to you, but you just don’t understand why this is so hard for me.” I shook my head. “You don’t have to walk around with the evidence of what we did inside of you.” Dan’s face turned from red to pale. He was out of things to say, and to be honest, so was I. Phil had tried to pretend he wasn’t even listening to this and continued on playing some sort of game on his phone.

After a few minutes of silence, Dan finally spoke up.

“I’m sorry.” He simply stated. “We both screwed up, but now we have to pay the price. I really want to help you in any way I can. Can you please just give me a chance? Seriously. One chance, that’s all I need.”

I looked at my feet, then I looked at Phil. He was still playing his game, but he kept glancing up at us. From Phil, I looked back at my feet, then to Dan. I sucked in a deep breath and stood up. Dan followed my actions, and so did Phil. Now, they both just waited to hear my answer.

“One chance.” I mumbled, more to myself than either of them. Dan cocked up an eyebrow.

“Sorry?” He slid his hands into his jean pockets and hunched up his shoulders.

“You get one chance. But, that’s it, okay? I want you to do your part for the child. Pay for things you want the child to have and things we need for it. Don’t spend a single penny on me. That’s all.” I held out my hand for him to shake it, and he grasped it without hesitation.

“Well, this is lovely.” Phil interjected and gave a half smile. “I’m sorry for what I said about Dan yesterday, Y/N. I’m sure he’ll suffice.”

“Yeah? Well, good thing he has one chance.” I nodded.

After the boys left, I was still left with a sort of pang in my chest. I really needed advice on how to deal with pregnancy from someone other than my doctor. Catherine was no good in this category, but there was only one person.

My eyes welled with tears and my hands shook as I dialled the number on my cell. The phone rang three times before hearing the other line pick up.

“Oh, Y/N! So lovely to hear from you, how are you, dear?” My mom’s angelic voice said through the line. At this point, I was full on ugly crying.

“M-mom…” I mumbled into the phone. I heard her sigh and I could just picture her frowning.

“Darling… What’s wrong? Talk to me. You haven’t been answering my calls and I was worried something was going on.” I could hear a door shut, which probably meant she’d gone into another room to talk to me.

I-I’m… I’m pregnant, mom.”

"Have you ever been afraid like this?" Pairing: Tamaki/Haruhi

( Angst Me No More — Ask Meme )

“Have you ever been afraid like this?”

pairing: Tamaki x Haruhi

genre: angst

word count: 1246 words

insp: “Lay Me Down” — Sam Smith; Yamashita Tomohisa’s drama “Code Blue”

“Tamakiii, are you really going to wear that?” Haruhi pointed at Tamaki’s head, where a humongous straw hat lay.

“Of course, my beloved wife! We’re going to the sea! And with Kyoya and Hani-senpai and the others, too! I’m finally going to see my nieces and nephews!” Tamaki pumped his arms up and down, and gave Haruhi a wide smile.

“But that doesn’t mean you should look like an idiot.” She smirked at her husband.

“Yes, but if I wear this–” Tamaki stepped closer to her, and gave her a smile while holding the two edges of the hat with his hands “–then I can do this.” He leaned in, bending the hat so it covered their faces, and kissed Haruhi.

“Now, let’s go!!” He raised his fist and walked towards the car.

Haruhi breathed in and out. If he was going to be this sweet the whole vacation, she should really stop blushing so easily.

“Come on, our anniversary celebration party is waiting!” Tamaki yelled with glee. He held out his fist, the ring on his finger shining by the sunlight.

“Yes, yes.” Haruhi smiled.

You and your heart.1

Pairing: Hannah Baxter x Alec Hardy

Rating: Teen and up so far

Words: 4199

I tried to figure out a creative way for them to meet outside of the escort/client dynamic. I wanted to explore what they could bring to each other’s life. This is the result.

After losing Ben, Hannah needs to lay low for a while and figure out her life. Her father suggests that she visits a friend of their family in Broadchurch. Hardy is recovering from a heart surgery and, although he would never ask, he needs someone. What starts as a convenient arrangement turns into something more meaningful as they discover how much they have in common.

ETA: Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Bonus

This story takes place less than a year after the finale of SDOACG and a few months after the events in Broadchurch S1.

“You could always go live with Hardy for a little while. Remember him?” Hannah’s father asks over coffee at her house.

The name brings back vague memories of summer vacations by the sea in Sandbrook and babysitting a girl half her age. Then later, dinners with her parents’ friends that lasted well into the night and a kitchen that reeked of beer the next morning. She’d last seen him about two years ago, she was too caught up in her own drama to remember what he was doing in London. That, and prostitutes usually try to avoid law officers.

 “What about him?”

“Well, you say you need a break from London and, I know you don’t like to talk about it but with Ben out of your life, I worry about you, darling.”

“Okay, alright, alright,” he holds up his hands almost in surrender, “anyway, he’s divorced now and he moved to some seaside town, in Dorset, your mother says he’s renting a beach house there, you could visit. Breathe some fresh air, relax, go to the beach.”

“What’s the catch?”

“Well, he’s just had heart surgery last May and, you know him, he won’t ask for help but he’s all by himself…”

Now she remembers why he was in London the last time, an appointment with a cardiologist. She remembers his scraggly hair and sunken eyes, his sullenness. She’d almost given him her business card.

She argues with her father that she isn’t a nurse but he keeps saying how he’d be less worried if he knew she was with someone he could trust. In the end, the idea blossoms in her head, arrangements are made. Only when she settles in the train heading to Broadchurch on a Saturday does she remember that she used to be scared of him.

Yet another HolbyCityDay Tuesday is upon us and the week before Christmas is shaping up beautifully.  Catherine Russell is working her usual magic and tweeting lovely pictures of herself and Jemma from the ward what a Christmas present to receive and she might have just saved 2016 and pretty much all feels right with the world.

Having said that, I know there’s been some rumblings in our beautiful dumpster fire fandom as of late as to the total lack of amount of screen-time our lovely surgeons have been receiving and the quality of their interactions. I have some thoughts about this when do I not and decided it might be worth throwing up a little fanciful holiday guide to enjoying Campwolfe.  Because I have zero chill ability to be concise twitter will so never be my medium for communication I will be throwing these thoughts under a read-more to save y’all’s dashes.  Please peruse if you are at all inclined. One thing I will say before I jump to that read-more is that it speaks to how little positive representation we actually have on our screens that we all feel so tender and afraid for this pairing.  I think it is such a shame that we all have to ‘don our bullet proof vests’ in order to watch these two women.  At the slightest divergence from what we might think is ‘good canon’ we all go into fits myself included i WORRY about this pairing and storyline on the daily even though I know that I don’t really have to and it’s not always easy.  All of us, for whatever reason, have fallen in love with these women and we simply want the best for them  We want to have a positive, healthy, loving relationship between two women mirrored for us.  And we’re afraid, I think, sometimes we worry, just as we’re allowing ourselves to enjoy it that it will suddenly be ripped away from us.  That’s tragic.  Hopefully as other shows see how wildly successful a pairing like this can be we will begin to have more and more representation that doesn’t immediately break our hearts.  In the meantime I really don’t think we need to watch Serena and Bernie through our fingers with our breath held.  They’re going to be around and together for awhile longer yet.

Whirlwind (Three)

What Is- June 17, 2018

            “Jennifer…Jennifer, wake up!”

I could hear my mother’s voice somewhere in the distance. I scrunched my nose, swatting at the air.

            “Go away, I’m tired,”

            “I can see that,”

I groaned and rolled over, shoving my face into the pillow. Whatever she wanted me to do could wait.

“Jennifer, please, get up,” I could breathe on my cheek as she got closer. Something was scratching my ear. It felt like stubble. Wait, that didn’t make sense.

I forced my eyes open and looked behind me to see Josh’s face about an inch away from mine. I yelped in surprise, scrambling up to a sitting position.

Mizuhara Kiko Gets "Posh", Grazia China, May 28th 2014

Written by Celine Wang. Translated by Mika/fuku-shuu, thank you so much!

She is the one foreign star GRAZIA has covered diligently, and we have crossed borders again and again for the opportunity to photograph her.

Because she really is “major” - even with no headlines or significant ambitions, her popularity never wanes, while both fashion and entertainment industries continue to adore her. If this isn’t the definition of noteworthy, then we’ll really have to modify its meaning in the dictionary. Yes, Mizuhara Kiko is officially posh.

First of all, GRAZIA must face the truth - that is, other than “silly” rumors, Mizuhara Kiko has not had much public exposure or discussion for the past six months. The closest she has been to her Chinese fans was when she attended the new Miu Miu store opening in Hong Kong earlier this year. Other than that, everyone has become dependent on her daily selfies on instagram to fulfill their curiosities. So, it’s a good thing that as soon as you meet her in person, the conversation topics surface automatically.

As usual, we meet up with Kiko herself at her agency. She dons a white sports jacket, American Apparel’s black jeans, and Saint Laurent’s mini motorcycle bag. Between a pair of casually-tied braids, she’s bareface and still as playful as ever, but with some additional degrees of elegance. After hair, makeup, and discussion on the day’s plans, Kiko quickly enters professional mode. The photographer asks, “Please run to a point 100 meters away.” - and she takes off without a single word; the editor requests, “Circle around twice with the bicycle.” - and Kiko rides along without shifting her expression towards the camera. No extra communications necessary, and no instances of her being flighty or playing coy. The whole photoshoot ends efficiently, professionally — what is going on? This seems to be quite a 180 from the vivacious, quirky young woman we saw the past two times!

“Maybe she really is too tired, especially after these past six months.” Her management team tells us. The topic of this shoot is “vacation,” but Kiko has not had a single night’s rest for a whole year. After filming “Trick the Movie: Last Stage” in 2013, she immediately went to work on the drama “Shitsuren Chocolatier.” Less than a month after that project wrapped, she already ventured into a new production. And this doesn’t even take into account her usual photoshoots and fashion endeavors. During February’s Milan Fashion Week, she was invited to walk for the brand Moschino. “It wasn’t really too complicated. One day we suddenly received the request from the designer’s staff via phone, and it’s a brand I love very much, so we agreed pretty quickly.” Kiko says. According to insiders, when it comes to accepting jobs in fashion, Kiko never overthinks - in her mind, it’s usually a “favor for a friend.” And in regards to the endless amount of complimentary, beautiful garb, she doesn’t attempt to hide anything, “I have quite a few friends who are designers or work in the business, so they just give me a lot of clothes.”

What deserves a mention is that in the primetime series “Shitsuren Chocolatier,” the young woman Kiko portrays happens to be a lively, straightforward model - Erena. Even though this series didn’t get an official braodcast in China, Kiko’s own appeal, on top of the immense popularity of Matsumoto Jun and Ishihara Satomi, cause it to swiftly became one of the hottest shows abroad. Erena’s relationship view of “Sex is separate from love, while confessions should be courageous” also inspired heated chatter among fans. The craziest ones even made a database of all her spoken lines and the individual pieces she wore throughout the show. “I really admire girls like Erena, and that was what attracted me to the series in the first place. In real life, I probably wouldn’t be so direct. My feelings are more slowburn, and I need ample time to understand or like someone. The most important quality I look for is a person who can give me comfort and happiness when we’re together. And if said person has good fashion sense, then it’s even better.” Says Kiko. As for all the love scenes with Matsumoto Jun, she admits she was quite nervous: “I felt quite shy, so I always asked Jun for advice. But he always told me, ‘Even if embarrassed, we have no choice, right?’ Ah! It was a revelation, and I realized that I had to be more professional.”

Despite her breakout role as Midori in “Norwegian Wood,” Kiko’s film and TV projects, or even her amount of screentime in each, aren’t actually too numerous. But each character is a new challenge: “Because I’m still a novice in terms of acting, I always want to try a lot of different roles. I’m never the main character, anyhow, so right now there wouldn’t be a case where a film’s box office tanked because of me alone. Even if that does happen eventually, I can’t really help the fact - I can only focus on how to portray my characters well.”

The latest news is that Kiko is going to have the starring role in an action film. “It really is a huge challenge, but I’ve wanted to be part of one for so long, and now I finally get the opportunity.” Right now, she has to undergo three to four hours of wire work and fight training on a daily basis. In addition, she also has to complete muscle-building routines at the gym. Even though the concealer hid much of it, during the photoshoot, we still saw hints of the bruises on her legs. “I don’t know if I’ve grown up - that’s probably better for others to judge. The director for every project is different, so every time I enter a production I start from a blank slate. What I can be certain is that I’m totally confident in memorizing lines now!”

Insiders of the Japanese entertainment industry tell GRAZIA that Kiko is already at the very top in terms of female entertainers in Japan. Even though she’s not a “Queen” yet, she definitely has the momentum of a successor. 1.2 million Instagram fans, appearances at all the major fashion events, designing for brands like Diesel, Reebok, and Opening Ceremony on the side, and those endless magazine covers month after month. With such a gigantic following propelling her, what does the 23-year-old Mizuhara Kiko have to worry about? Perhaps, doing what she wishes is the best choice for now, because anything is possible. Just as she says, “My job has a model helped me accumulate a lot of experience, but I can’t do it for my entire life. I must use whatever I’ve learned in other places. I don’t know what those are yet, but right now acting is making me very happy, so I’ll do this for now.”
