she is one of my all time favorite characters

Okay, there’s something about Voltron that I’ve been pondering for awhile and I strongly feel the need to point this out because I have yet to see anyone else do it.

Haggar is voiced by Cree Summer (one of my favorite voice actresses of all time, but I digress) and in the Belly of the Weblum episode we hear Cree Summer’s voice again, as the mascot Weblum for Coran’s video.

The reason this happened can only logically be one of two reasons.

1. They just got Cree Summer to voice a second character which is a common thing to do, and heck the lady can do a lot of different voices.

Oooor

2. Haggar knew Coran when they were both younger, and somehow she got pulled into putting on the weblum costume to do his instructional video, and frankly I’m hoping that is the case because that is freaking hilarious.  She probably thinks this video got destroyed, so just imagine her rage upon learning that not only does it still exist but the paladins, her enemy, have seen this.

This is my new headcanon and no way can take this away from me.

masterofenthropy  asked:

Hi HeyWriters! I was wondering: do you have a tip to create a weak point on main characters? I´m making a story, but I´m having trouble since my main character is TOO overpowered. Could you help me with this?

(All of this is written under the assumption your character has superpowers or “special” abilities, so forgive me if you meant a different kind of power.)

I created a character concept when I was twelve. She had all the superpowers of my favorite heroes and then some. As time wore on she gained more and more until eventually my adolescent brain invented logic and realized she was actually ridiculous. Here’s how I depowered this character, who’s name is Ace, without completely ruining her coolness.

Step One:

Don’t be greedy. Any ability that does not contribute to the story needs to go. It’s taking up space that could be filled with credibility. I decided early on that Ace didn’t need most of her abilities, and by the end of the story she only relies on a few to get the job done. Also, if a character can do more than one thing that are all basically the same thing some of those should probably go (invisibility and camouflage, superspeed and teleportation, etc.).

Step Two:

Apply real-world science. If you try to make your depiction realistic, you’ll want to have an idea of how these abilities might work and how they might not. Of course, you should suspend disbelief for some things if they’re truly essential to your character, but others can be adapted. For Ace there are some powers that only work under the right circumstances, and others that her body rejects or that give her physical pain when she uses them. Most importantly, special strengths come with special weaknesses. Sensitive hearing means loud noises are more jarring or harmful, regeneration means metabolism speeds up and the person needs to eat as much as a body builder. Any superpower you pick out will have a drawback, I guarantee it; if not a physical one then a social one (I’ll get to that).

This scene from The Incredibles is an excellent demonstration of superpower drawbacks.

Step Three:

Consider how the character feels about all this power and why they obtained it in the first place. Ace was not born with abilities, but over time she chose certain powers for the purpose of defending herself or others. Some of her powers fade away when she stops using them, like any skill you fail to practice, and some abilities she just plain old refuses to use for personal reasons. Some are too difficult or time-consuming for her to master, and some even trigger memories of her traumatic past thus she discards them. This way she has a choice in the matter and her choice is not to bite off more than she can chew or what she doesn’t want in the first place.

Step Four:

How do other characters feel about all this power? Perhaps some or all of your character’s powers intimidate, frighten, or anger others in the story. One of Ace’s friends dislikes how unstoppable she is, and others are taken aback by some of the things she can do or how she looks when she does them. On the whole, she hides what she can do or picks small things to do instead of big things, downplaying her own power when necessary. How your supporting characters react to the force of nature that is your MC is the most important aspect of her power.

Here’s an example from the X-Men of how other characters might react.

For additional opinions and advice, read this https://mythcreants.com/blog/five-characters-that-are-too-powerful/ and take to heart its ending line: “There’s only one fix that avoids all the pitfalls of overpowered heroes: refrain from making them really powerful in the first place.”

Yes, Ace is a flawed concept and all the advice I just gave is only a patch kit for that flaw. However, overpowered characters continue to excite readers and viewers alike, so I would never suggest we dispense with them altogether. Just, when you’re getting a headache from how overwhelming your character is, it’s good to consider dialling it all back and focusing on the power of their personality instead.

Okay, you see this? These are jacket cover/inside cover of a book called “The Beast Within” written by Serena Valentino, who wrote other Disney books that are so amazing. I purchased her first Disney book in the Germany Pavilion in Epcot a few years ago and have bought every other book of hers since. But lemme tell you why this one is my favorite:

Not only is “Beauty and the Beast” one of my favorite films of all time, but the Beast is one of my favorite characters in any film. And this book makes him seem so much more understandable. It’s written in his perspective and there’s literally a scene where he’s so close to being an actual monster that he goes out to kill Belle after she runs away from him.

Did you hear me?

HE GOES TO KILL BELLE.

Of course, he fights the wolves that attack her because in his mind, he’s like “wait I can redeem my human status still” while the beast side is literally chanting “RIP THE FLESH OPEN AND SPILL HER BLOOD EVERYWHERE ALL OVER THE SNOW COVERED GROUND”.

Let me tell you, this book is so good. And it gives more backstory to Gaston (who is, as you guessed, one of my favorite Disney villains).

If you enjoyed the 2017 version of “Beauty and the Beast”, you’ll enjoy this book. It’s different than the film, but just as good, in my opinion.

This line if anyone doesn’t know comes from Tony and Fury’s conversation during Age of Ultron. The conversation where Tony says that the vision Wanda gave him, is the future. He blames himself.

This is not just the end of the path the group started them on, Tony claims all responsibility. I started us on. This idea that Tony tries to push off the blame for his actions, is honestly baffling. Tony consistently accepts blame for other people’s actions.

Let’s go through some of the movies and see where Tony takes responsibility.

In Ironman 1 we see Tony Stark, talking with Yinsen in Afghanistan. He’s scaredd, confused, and in pain. Despite all of that, one of the first things he notices about his kidnappers, they have his weapon. Which he finds absolutely jarring because he only sells his weapons to the US military.

He is absolutely shocked that these terrorists have his weapons, because Obidiah was the one selling to them behind his back. However, he takes responsibility for his weapons getting in the wrong hands, and sets out to personally destroy every stockpile of weapons.

He took full responsibility for something that was not his fault.

What about Age of Ultron.

The entire movie in Captain America civil war, is Tony attempting to make up for what happened. Notice he again says my fault. He has taken every bit of blame, he doesn’t blame Wanda for what she did to him, or for what she did to help Ultron with his plan. He doesn’t blame Bruce for helping him study the scepter. He doesn’t blame Ultron because ultimately Ultron’s actions were his own, he was a sentient being. Tony takes all of the blame on his shoulders, and supports the accords as a way of preventing further tragedies like Ultron.

Tony consistently accepts blames for things he was only marginally connected to. Other people expect him to, and he gets blamed for the actions of others regularly.

Example:

This man blamed Tony Stark for the crimes Howard Stark committed against his father. Tony is expected to pay in blood for crimes that are not his own.

Or what about

Who after years of planning, and evil deeds blames Tony for all of it. A drunk celebrity said he would talk with him and then didn’t. I understand maybe Aldrich was devastated, and dealing with depression. However, his crimes are still his own, he still chose to commit them. He has had years to get a good therapist, he chose to develop a serum that kills people, and causes them to explode.

This is not Tony’s fault, this is Killain’s. He made the decision to be a villain.

Now let’s look at some of the other Avengers accepting responsibility for their actions.

Well, that doesn’t sound like accepting responsibility for unleashing the Hulk onto a city of innocent people, and completely disrupting Dr. Banner’s peace of mind. She has to have accepted blame at some point, Captain America wouldn’t let her get away with this type of thing, would he?

“She’s just a kid.” Oh, of course well at least he accepts responsibility for his own mistakes.

“Did you know?”

“I didn’t know it was him.”

“Don’t bullshit me Rogers, did you know?”

“Yes.”

Well he admits that he hid the truth for years after having his own lie waved in his face, not exactly taking responsibility.

What about Clint, he’s well known for considering the consequences of his actions. Mr. Clint “They’re considered.” Barton.

Oh no wait here’s another example of someone breaking the law and then blaming Tony for their own crimes. Wow the Aldrich Killian parallel I never wanted to make with one of my favorite comic book characters.

Now, all of the original team Cap is guilty of refusing responsibility for their crimes. What about Natasha? While we haven’t seen much of her origin Story she is supposed to be known for clearing the red off her ledger, and while we never see her take blame for much in canon, I blame Marvel’s shitiness with female characters and screen time.

Or Bruce? Bruce is the only original Avenger we see taking blame for things other than Tony. He’ll take blame for any event the Hulk was involved in, that’s why he leaves at the end of AoU, because of Johannesburg. He still blames himself for breaking Harlem, despite the fight being necessary to protect people.

Tl:dr this idea that Tony never accepts responsibility is really baffling to me, because team Cap never seemed to accept responsibility for anything they did wrong. Whereas Tony is constantly accepting blame, and working to improve himself and the situation.

- Feminist (i.e. making his Second and Third in Command ladies!)
- Recovering victim of sexual/physical/mental abuse
- Gave Feyre a wage even when she didn’t ask for one
- Taught her to write/made her eat/kept her moving when she was manically depressed

- Endures prejudice of an entire nation for the sake of his people
- Gave up his body and his powers for the sake of his people
- Made sure that Under the Mountain, he gave Feyre a means of forgetting what would occur in his nights with her (the wine), but still show her where she’d been touched (the body paint)
- Let her choose freely to accept the Mating bond
- In fact, went so far as to hide it and allow her to continue on sleeping with the shithead that murdered his family
- Allows her to have certain parts of her mind be private, despite having complete access to them
- He’s extremely stylish
- And also very handsome and can get real nasty
- Literally does everything he can for everyone he loves and takes zero credit for any of it
- Is a strong male who can be portrayed as broken and in tears
- Rhysand is just the fucking greatest and gives me lots of feelings and holy shit

Talks Machina Highlights (Episodes 92 & 93)
  • Denise message: “With every breath the world takes my power increases.”
  • Asked which of her episodes was the most intense, Noelle: “Well, the first one, I was on the edge of my seat a lot wondering when they were gonna stop shopping…”
  • Everyone admits that episode 93 should’ve been the most intense episode yet, but they were all so ignorant of the potential consequences that it didn’t really sink in until afterwards.
  • Noelle talks about a really fun D&D campaign she had where everybody played teenagers in high school (she was a tiefling warlock). She wanted something different than the high-charisma, low-strength build she’d had there, so when Matt suggested the blood hunter class, she was 100% on board. “I like my D&D characters extra.”
  • Sam agrees with a question-asker that Taryon is mostly just emulating what he thinks brave people ought to do; it remains to be seen whether or not he’s actually brave.
  • Liam as a player was freaking out over how close the campaign came to ending, but in-character, Vax is pretty convinced they’re all destined to get to the end of the road at this point and that there’s a bigger plan in play.
  • Travis and Sam both expected the Nine Hells to be worse than they were. Sam: “I think you build up hell in your mind…”
  • Tova would totally have turned Grog into a werebear if he’d asked.
  • A question-asker points out that Trinket wound up lasting years longer than Doty. Sam: “…yes, there’s something inherently wrong with that. […] You know what? Matt’s game is broken.” Brian: “Doty vs. Trinket: The end of Critical Role.” (Laura immediately tweets in outrage.)
  • Someone asks if Vax was disappointed that he didn’t get the killing blow on Hotis, and Liam points out that the only kill that had any emotional meaning for Vax personally was Thordak–other than that, it’s all about the team.
  • At one point, Tova was down to 15 HP. Travis: “We’re not very good at tracking how low everybody gets.” Noelle: “…no. No, you’re not.”
  • Sam, summing up an extended D&D legal discussion: “I’m not sure that contract would’ve been legal in the state of California.”
  • Losing Doty hasn’t sunk in yet for Taryon. “Doty is a big brother, a mom, a little brother…”
  • New episode of All Work No Play (Sam and Liam’s podcast) is going up tomorrow! Sam: “It’s really not our best episode.” Liam: “That’s ludicrous, it’s the best.”
  • Tova’s friends all had names and a bit of connection pre-built with Tova’s backstory.
  • Vax thinks Tary has potential but lacks confidence. Grog, in the middle of the fight, kept seeing him huddled in a ball casting Sanctuary and thinking “…fucking Tary.”
  • Travis: “Especially now that you don’t have a nanny anymore, Grog’s gonna have to step in and take that role.” Sam: “Honestly, I’m not even sure Taryon can put on his own armor.”
  • Noelle felt like it was a necessary character choice for Tova to stay behind, and also thinks that she’s so driven that a lot of hell’s torture wouldn’t really sink in as long as she still had a sense of duty and purpose. The biggest thing that would be an impediment to her survival would be finding out that her friends had been killed. Wanting to return Vax’s ring would also be a driving force that could keep her going.
  • Vax worked for the Clasp for a while and got into the attitude of doing jobs without fully understanding why, so he’s not too worried about tracking down the anonymous person who requested the rakshasa parts at the Slayer’s Take–as far as he’s concerned, it’s over.
  • Everyone talks about how right up-his-alley the contract is for Percy. Brian: “If Taliesin summoned an army of the damned in real life, that would be the least surprising thing Taliesin has ever done.”
  • Liam: “The lawyer on the other side might argue that [Doty] is less of a party member and more of a Zune.” Sam: “Shut your mouth! He is not a Zune. He’s a Palm Pilot or better.”
  • Noelle: “I think things went pretty well. I killed a pit fiend, I turned into an invisible bear, I airplaned Vax around.” Brian: “You pushed Keyleth out a window.” Noelle: “I did do that.”
  • ASHLEY JOHNSON RETURNS ON THURSDAY
  • Sam on Doty: “I’m unreasonably attached to that robot, he’s pretty great. He’s a cutie.”
  • Travis suggests that Grog could take over writing Tary’s exploits, since he knows two letters now.
  • Liam has no expectations for what’s going to happen in the next episode. No idea what’s gonna happen. Sam points out that there aren’t a lot of loose ends anymore.
  • Travis: “I kept asking how my stomach was feeling, to Matt, as one does in a D&D game. If I shit an imp, we’ll know.”

Talks Machine in the Dark:

  • Travis mentions the K’varn fight as the first time he really felt like things were getting terribly out-of-hand. Liam and Sam both mention getting stuck inside the dragon.
  • Noelle, as a writer, likes the narrative ambiguity of Schrodinger’s Tova and thought that, either way, it was a cool way to go out.
  • My new favorite question: “Does Grog know Minxie is Keyleth?” Travis has to answer that, unfortunately, Grog is fully aware that they’re the same because he was the one who named her back in the home game.
  • Liam thinks the only option if Keyleth had failed that roll would be for Percy to invoke the contract. Travis also brings up the Deck.
  • Noelle tells amazing stories about the graphic novel bible she had growing up. “I’m pretty sure Jezebel isn’t supposed to be your favorite character in the bible, but she had amazing eyeshadow…”
  • Liam tells Travis that next campaign, they’re gonna have to be the note-takers to pay Marisha back for this one. Travis: “I’m gonna have to learn how to write.”
  • Vax will finally stop wearing the armor all the time now that Hotis is out of the picture. “Don’t need to worry about Mercer shanking me in my most intimate moments.”
Samurai Jack: The Case for Mature Western Animation

When critics talk about the must-see television events happening so far this year, shows like Better Call Saul, American Gods, and The Handmaiden’s Tale are often brought up. This is, of course, for good reason: each of those shows are well-crafted, hard-hitting, and intelligent stories told by visionary showrunners in wholly unique ways.

We need to start including Samurai Jack on that list.

Genndy Tartakovsky has always been a cinematic animator. His original run on Samurai Jack nearly two decades ago nearly revolutionized how children’s action cartoons could be portrayed, with his careful and brilliant use of silence and color. He would continue this artistry with his tragically-underrated science-fiction epic, Sym-Bionic Titan (hey, Toonami, how about asking for a second season of that show next, huh?).

When Samurai Jack returned this year, Tartakovsky knew that his audience was going to have grown with the character. He knew that [adult swim] would’ve allowed him to use as much profanity, gore, and sexual innuendos as your average Family Guy episode, and a lesser showrunner would’ve run with that opportunity. Instead, Tartakovsky opted to tell a more mature story in the literal sense of the word. This meant more reflection, more spiritual and emotional symbolism, more grounded stakes, and a more hardened Jack. Indeed, this is what makes a majority of the season so fascinating to watch.

During the original series on Cartoon Network, our hero was a calm, silent, confident warrior on a mission. Despite being a stranger in a strange land, he always kept his wits about him. Rarely did he lose. Watching the show as kids, we just knew that he was going to eventually make it back to the past to stop Aku.

In season five, we’re not so certain anymore. Jack is now more of a ronin, wandering the apocalyptic wasteland of Aku’s future looking for lives to save. It’s become so routine that he’s almost forgotten why he does it anymore. His mind is corrupted by vicious thoughts that constantly bombard him with self-doubt. He suffers from hallucinations of his family and loved ones suffering in the past without him. All the while, he’s being followed by the spirit of death, who is patiently waiting for Jack’s seemingly-inevitable suicide. Even with the introduction of comedic characters like Scaramouche, we’re shown immediately just how much darker this world had become.

That threat grows worse with the introduction of the Daughters of Aku, seven warriors bred specifically to kill Jack. In my opinion, the episodes surrounding their hunt and the subsequent battles were the highlight of the season, showcasing Tartakovsky’s storytelling nuances at their brightest. The action is as swift and dazzling as ever, and the use of dramatic lighting and suspenseful music is downright ingenious. Balancing the hard-hitting violence with the somber moments of fear and reflection make the battles between Jack and the Daughters some of the best directed scenes not simply in recent animated history, but in television history as a whole.

After a poignant childhood flashback of his father reluctantly slaying an army of foes, Jack comes to terms with the fact that he sometimes needs to shed human blood, despite having never done such a thing before. He slays six of the seven Daughters of Aku in a beautiful snow-covered forest (again showing us how much Tartakovsky and his team love playing with color), sparing only one of their lives. This is when we meet Ashi, who becomes the driving force of the entire season.

I was legitimately impressed with how the show handled Ashi’s transformation from brainwashed killing machine to Jack’s partner in good. Within the span of two incredibly-paced episodes, we saw her slowly peel away the layers of both who she and the “evil” samurai were. Contrasting the unforgiving violence of her upbringing to the gentleness of her former enemy causes her to question everything she knew, and interacting with Jack’s old friends from the original series solidified her stance on the matter: Jack, despite everything she knew, was a hero.

(Just an aside, seeing Ashi break lose and dance at the Rave with a big smile on her face was one of the happiest damn moments of the season for me)

A lot of people were unsure of how to interpret Ashi. I know a lot of people felt she was very sexualized throughout the series, and I felt there was a definitive lack of understanding when it came time for the character to “wash herself clean” of Aku’s influence (does it matter if she was technically naked the whole time? Can’t we just accept physical metaphors and move on?). Some didn’t like that she had to save Jack on multiple occasions, while some didn’t like the fact that she, herself, had to be saved on multiple occasions. I feel as if those people were simply looking for something to complain about, because I legitimately found Ashi to be a great character.

The episode in which she needed to take down an entire army sent to kill Jack while he was meditating his anger away and acquiring his sword is an all-timer, and probably the most Tartakovsky-esque of the season. The action sequences are as brutal as they had ever been, with bright Tarantino-styled blood spilling over the battlefield; Meanwhile, Jack’s spiritual quest for inner-peace is filled with as much stillness and restraint as the creative staff could muster. Truly the last perfect episode of the season.

I felt as if every idea and story beat Tartakovsky had planned ended up in the season in some capacity, though I felt that the pacing was forced to grow a bit rushed as the season wrapped up. The best – and most unfortunate – example of this is the finale itself.

It’s exactly how we all secretly wanted the show to end: Jack is seemingly defeated, and Aku can’t help but gloat to everyone on the planet. Right as a possessed Ashi is about to deliver the fatal blow, all of Jack’s allies rally together for a full assault on Aku’s castle (what else could’ve possibly connected all of these strange characters than the capture of their legendary savior?). Jack breaks free and assists Ashi in overcoming Aku’s demonic grasp. Upon learning that she possesses all of Aku’s abilities, she’s the one who opens up a new portal in time, allowing Jack to go back to the past and finally defeat Aku.

(In what was easily my favorite part of the finale, Jack and Ashi appear almost immediately after his original self was sent back, leaving Aku flustered, baffled, ill-prepared, and horrified. “You’re back already?!” he spits out. Jack conquers his foe easily, and while some found the final battle anti-climactic, I felt it was perfect.)

Afterwards, Jack finally returns home, Ashi by his side. A wedding is arranged immediately, and they’re ready to spend the rest of their lives together. In a dark twist that those of us familiar with time travel almost saw coming, however, Ashi disappears from existence in Jack’s arms, having never been born due to Aku never taking over the future. Jack, bitterly alone, retreats to the forest, where a ladybug (a beautiful callback to Ashi’s character arc) allows him to see the promise of what’s to come.

It all sounds so perfect. Unfortunately, everything emotional that happened in this episode had to be squeezed into the last ten minutes. This maybe could’ve worked if Tartakovsky hadn’t perfectly spaced out Jack’s inner turmoil at the beginning of the season. After such perfect reflection, I wanted to see more emotion from these last few moments. There was a lot Jack needed to react to, from all of his friends coming together to fight Aku, to Ashi finally defeating and channeling the darkness within her, to the unadulterated and enormous impact of finally returning to the past! Jack had spent over fifty years trying to get there, and we didn’t even get to see an emotional reunion with his family. That just didn’t feel right to me.

Then there’s Ashi’s disappearance. She didn’t die, she was erased from existence. After struggling with his inner demons throughout the first half of the season, I wanted to see Jack mentally and emotionally try and cope with that. After all, it wasn’t simply Ashi who vanished; it was all of his friends and allies whose lives he had touched throughout his decades in the future. All of them were gone, a curse that inevitable if Jack were to complete his mission. There is pain, horror, and guilt bursting at the seams with such an ending. We could’ve had an entire half hour dedicated to Jack accepting what he had done. It’s such a bitter, dark, and beautiful ending emotionally, and I felt the writing staff wasn’t given the time to appropriately explore it.

Still, all of the ideas were there, and Genndy ended the show on his own terms creatively. He still provided us with nine-and-a-half perfect episodes that broke the boundaries of what Western animation was capable of. It practiced restraint and patience when other action cartoons insist on doing the complete opposite. It gave us a hero plagued with inner-darkness and mental illness on a journey of self-purpose. It gave us a character with a redemption arc we never saw coming and rooted for until her tragic end. And – for me, anyway – it gave me hope for animation as a medium, that more audiences will look at this sweeping epic of a story and think “I want more.”

So you’re thinking about leaving concrit on a fanfiction...

Hi there!  Dresupi here! Fanfic author, mostly MCU.

So you’re browsing Ao3…you’re having fun.  You’re reading all your favorite ship or fandom has to offer.  And EGADS!  You’ve spotted an error in one of the fics.

Well.  Surely the next step is for you to let them know in the comments.  Right?  That’s what they’re for, after all.  Communicating with the author, right?

 Wrong.

Wait WHAT?  Dres…you’re telling me I shouldn’t alert this writer to their grave error in judgement (Or grammar, or characterization, or anything else I deem incorrect in this work they’ve posted out in public for everyone to see?)

Yes, imaginary fic commenter.  Yes, that’s exactly what I’m telling you.

But WHYYYY?

Calm down, I’m going to lay this out for you.  All professional like.  With bullets and everything.  ;) I got you, Babe.  Don’t worry.

  • Okay, so the first thing you (as a potential commenter of fanfiction) need to do is decide…Did you like the fic?  If yes, please continue to the next step.  If no, I need you to go back up to the top of your web browser and click the arrow pointing left.  That will take you OUT of the fic and enable you to continue on your search for the perfect fanfic. :D
  • Okay, so, if you’re still reading, you’ve decided that yes.  You DID like the fanfic.  YAY!  I’m so happy for you!  I love finding good fics!  I really do!  It’s the best feeling to find someone who writes your OTP just right, isn’t it?  … Oh wait…you mean…you DIDN’T like the way they wrote your OTP?  A scene was too short?  The word count over all was too short?  Characters were OOC?  Goodness gracious!   Well, in that case…I’m going to need you to go on up to the top left of your screen and click the arrow pointing left.  This will take you OUT of the fic and enable you to continue on your search for the perfect fic with perfect A+ Characterization.
  • NOW.  Okay.  So you liked the fic.  You liked the length.  The characterization.  AWESOME!  PARTY TIME!  … Oh?  A factual error, you say?  Oh no!  That really is kind of embarrassing, you know?  Really quick, though.  BEFORE you comment, can you check the author’s note and see if the author is asking for help?  A beta?  A general okay-ness with constructive criticism?  (Some authors really like it).   But no?  You don’t see anything like that in the author’s note?  Hmm.  Well, this is a tough situation.  You can either leave your comment sans unprompted concrit…or you can venture up to the top left of your screen and click on the left hand arrow.  This will take you OUT of the fic and enable you to continue on your search for the perfect fic with A+ characterization with bonus fact checking!
  • Alright, alright, alright.  You’ve made it this far!  This must be an AMAZING fic.  Outstanding!  :D  All except for those pesky grammar and/or syntax errors, right?  Wow.  These are really interfering with your ability to enjoy the fic.  Either this author is in desperate need of a beta, or maybe it’s just that ONE GLARING ERROR in an otherwise perfect fic.  It’s time to leave a comment, tell the author, right?  *sigh*  Take a glance at the author’s note.  Is the author asking for concrit?  Perhaps there’s a call for a beta reader?  Or just a general call for help?  No?  *deeper sigh* Sorry, Friend.  If you’re able, please leave your comment sans concrit, otherwise…yeah…you know what to do.  Back click.

Really though…what’s the big deal about me leaving concrit?  Even if mine is a touch rude.  I know for a FACT {this author} has many more positive comments.  This isn’t going to amount to more than a drop in the bucket.

Well…and this is speaking from personal experience as an author.  You could have hundreds upon hundreds of positive comments, but that one negative, or concritty comment is the one that stands out.  It’s the one that makes an author stop before pressing that “post” button.  It’s the one that makes them second guess themselves.

But Dres, these authors are sharing their works in the public.  They should really develop thicker skins about this kind of thing.

Well.  I mean.  This isn’t really up to you to decide.  This isn’t something you paid money for.  All you’ve invested is your time.  Leaving unwanted concrit in the comments of a fanfiction is the online equivalent of receiving a handmade sweater from your Nana and saying, “This is cool, but I’d rather have had the store-bought one…”

Maybe this author is having a really hard time this week.  Maybe their word count isn’t up to snuff because of it.  Maybe this was all they were able to put out there?  Maybe their beta reader is on vacation or taking a break?  Maybe none of the above, maybe this is just simply the best they can do and they’re very proud of what they’ve accomplished!

Fanfiction is a free service. Fic authors take their free time to craft and write these stories.  A lot of us aren’t professional writers.  We’re moms.  Students.  High schoolers.  Investment bankers.  Scientists. Therapists. {insert name of other careers here}. In other words, people with real lives, who spend what little free time we have, creating content for you to enjoy.

It isn’t like if you pay money for the latest book from your favorite author, only to find out that they’ve killed off your favorite character and made the other character into a villain and completely mucked up the series past all canonical help.

Okay, okay.  I get you.  It’s rude.  But can’t I at least point out the grammatical/syntax errors?

And here’s where it gets tricky.  And I’d like to defer to my mom on this one.

She always used to say, “Never point out a fault that someone can’t fix in less than three seconds.”

She used it to pertain to people’s appearances, their attitude, or their speech patterns.  But I think it applies here too.

I think of single typos as like…the literary version of having spinach in your teeth.  Yes.  This is something you could technically point out.  KINDLY.  You wouldn’t point and laugh at someone you didn’t really know who had spinach stuck between their front teeth, would you?

(I would certainly HOPE the answer is no.)

Likewise, if you simply must point out a single typo…do it nicely?  Otherwise, it looks like you read this thing that this fic author put out into the world…this little piece of themselves…you read it, and found nothing good whatsoever.  Just that typo.  Maybe you didn’t mean it that way.  But it’s what it looks like to that author.

On the other side of this coin…if the entire fic is a grammatical mess?  Just…back click out.

Here’s why I say that.  To you, it might look like My Immortal…but to the person that wrote it?  It looks like the hard-work and effort they poured into it.  And you never know.  The person that wrote it could be ESL.  *shrugs*  And your comment could be the thing that keeps them from ever trying again.  You never really know.  It’s safer to be cautious.

I’m going to double star and bold this next thing.  Because I feel like it’s super important.

**A better way to point out typos, grammatical errors or basically any other errors is to contact the author directly.**

I link my tumblr at the bottom of all my fics for this reason.  And I’ve gotten some lovely messages from people informing me of formatting errors, typos and grammatical errors. It literally takes the same amount of time to click on a link and type out your comment as it does to leave it at the bottom of the fic.  And I can tell you that I do not mind getting told about errors in private.  It’s when things get dragged out into the open that I start getting defensive.

Which brings me to my last point before I shut up and leave you to your day.

“I didn’t mean this in a bad way!  I was only trying to help!  Why is this author getting so defensive???”

I’d like to tell you about a little thing called tone.

Something that is completely lost in online messaging and commenting.

While you, the commenter, might have not intended anything bad from your comment…the author could have read it in a completely different way. Know why?

I can’t speak for everyone, but for me?  Personally?  It’s because I’m self-conscious.  Yes.  I’m super self-conscious about everything I share.  Whether it’s a short prompt or an update to a longer fic, I’m self-conscious about sharing it.  And that translates over to how I read tone in online messages and comments.  I hate that I can’t read things neutrally, but…here I am.  In all my imperfection.

I guess in short, what I’m saying is…and this is probably going to earn me some enemies for whatever reason…I mean…I stood up to someone leaving concrit on one of my fics and got called a c*nt and an attention whore for it.  *shrugs*  People are gonna do what they want to do, and that’s how it is.

It takes absolutely no time to back click out and say nothing.  *shrugs*  It takes zero effort to not be a dick.  So please.  Just…don’t be a dick?  Feed your authors.  Don’t leech from them.

In Case You Missed It - Masterpost

I’m not sure if you guys have noticed, but tumblr has been full of *stuff* lately. Everything keeps getting buried.  Because of that, I’ve decided to help everyone out with a list of a few fics/drabbles that you might have missed.  No, this isn’t me pimping out my own fic; this is fic that was either sent to me because I asked for people’s personal favorites, or fic that I’d noticed went unnoticed.  So, read all of this.  Now.  Because I said so.

Things You Said You Loved About Me by @alittlemissfit –

*A beautiful prompt inspired drabble that takes place between IWTB and the Revival.  It offers us a little insight to Scully’s state of mind while on the run, and a peek into their world while living out of suitcases.  It’s beautiful.

Prompts 33 & 53 by @baronessblixen

*Oh man.  Drunk/high!Mulder is something we don’t get often enough, and this little diddy gives us that in all of it’s glory.  This was such an enjoyable read, and it may have produced a little giggle out of me (which is hard to do).

All the Little Things by @frangipanidownunder

*Are you a sucker for anything cancer arc? Yeah, me too.  This hurt my heart in all the right ways, and I loved every. freaking. second. of it.

Ripper Weather by @sunflowerseedsandscience

*A casefile!  Written recently!  How the hell did we miss this??  Casefiles are so freaking rare these days, so you better run like motherfellas and get to reading this.

Two Spooky Agents Get It On Over Some Redwood by @twospookyagents

*HOO BOY this was fun!  If you need fun smut in your life, then this is the answer to your prayers.  Such a great read by some really awesome authors. Bonus:  There’s a part 2!

The Things She Carries by @edierone

*Phew, I need a minute… *fans self*  You will need many cold showers after reading this series.  I just…wow.  Wow.

Shear Bliss by @bohoartist –

*This is the new holy grail for “On the Run” in character smut biscuits.  It has everything you could ask for, everything you could envision about their sexy times when the angst had to be at an all-time high.

A Preponderance of the Evidence by @kateyes224

*This is quite possibly one of my favorite WIPs right now.  Did you ever wonder what happened after Never Again?  So did I, until this baby was written.  Now this is headcanon.  Part 2 is here!  And Part 3 is rumored to be coming soon.

The Only Choice by @scullys-right-eyebrow-txf

*An in-between-the-scenes for seasons 7 and 8???? HELL TO THE YES. The writing is spot. on. with this one, and good golly is it a good read.

In the Embers by @looking-for-life-elsewhere

*A beautifully written missing scene from Herrenvolk.  Simply wonderful.

Things You Said When I Was Crying by @puzzlingpeace

*A post ep for Orison, which needs alllllllll of the post ep fic, truthfully.  The angst is so real in this one, and just so utterly perfect.

Late Night Steps by @cosmic-files-87

*This list doesn’t have nearly enough fluff, and this wonderful little fluff biscuit is the remedy for that.  There wasn’t nearly enough fluffy moments in the show (duh), so I read as much of it as possible.  Gimme all the fluff. Can I say fluff just one more time?  Fluff.

Blame Me, I Meant No Harm by @chileananderson

*Do you ever want to message a writer telling them to screw off because their writing is just *THAT* beautiful?  That’s how I feel with this lady here.  This letter to Scully hits your right in the feels and stuns you with it’s beauty at the same time.

Things You Said by @somekindofseizure

*An incredible MSR series written via anon prompts.  The writing is exceptional, as usual, and this series leaves me feeling inspired.  As does all of the work by this incredible author.

Then the Bomb by @all-these-ghosts

*This pre/post col WIP series is seriously one of the most creatively written ones I’ve seen thus far.  The dynamics between the characters is perfection.  If you’re not reading this, then you’re failing our fandom.

***More to be added soon****

I’m writing this because I’m heartbroken and I think writing out my feelings will be cathartic. We have one week left with Emma Swan. I can say without any hesitation Emma Swan became my favorite character of all time from the very second she walked on screen in the pilot. I have never felt more connected to a show than I have with Once Upon A Time. I think most people can pinpoint a specific show they connected deeply to and will always love. Once Upon A Time is that show for me.

Jennifer Morrison’s announcement seemed like a nail in the coffin to me. I poured so much into gathering news for this show, reporting on it, pouring my love into it. Now here we are, at the end. Whether the show continues into a season 7 or not, it will be vastly different. I’ve said it over and over, but It’s finally hit me just what that means. It feels real now. I’ve shed lots of real tears this morning. I think Kelly described it best when she said that last night we were celebrating a wedding and this week will feel like a funeral.

Regardless of how sad I am, I can’t help but reflect on what this show has done for me. It brought me my best friends who I would never have met had it not been for this show. We have an unending bond now that extends past the borders of this show. It brought me confidence when I created this blog, had fun working on it, and connected with so many other fans of the show. It actually got me to Comic Con last year which I never would have dreamed of attending! It made me happy every single Sunday night at 8pm. It provided me with countless happy encounters, headcanons, fics, gifs, videos, and discussions with so many beautiful people. For all of that, I am grateful.

As we bid Jennifer Morrison farewell, I mourn for the loss of Emma Swan, but smile for her existence. I am so grateful for Jen and all she poured into this favorite character of mine. Wherever Once Upon A Time goes from here, I am forever thankful for all it’s brought to so many people. A Happy Beginning now is ours. ♥

anonymous asked:

Can you recommend some of your favorite manhwa? Preferably translated ones since my Korean is sucky but non-translated is fine too lol

I’m SO GLAD YOU ASKED!

Window to Window (BL)

it’s about childhood friends Ginu and Yubin and man do I love these boys. Like, if I was stuck on an island and I had to pick two webtoon characters to be with me, I’d be with Ginu and Yubin (although Sangwoo and Bum would be a close first).

Ginu’s handsome, tall, but very cuddly and clingy whereas Yubin is more moody and dark, trying to hide his torch for Ginu.

What Lies at The End (BL)

So Taemin, this really rad dude got into an accident and suddenly he woke up as this high school student named Siwon, a weak and often bullied kid. Taemin, meets his old friend Woojin who disappeared from his life and somehow, he figures out Taemin’s little body swapping secret.

I actually feel like jumping into this manhwa and like fighting every ugly mug there because I don’t like bullies and I DON’T LIKE JOOHOON. That mf can find me in the alleyway of McDonald’s.

Read it in:

Lover Boy (BL)

Eunho has been in love with Jaeha, a man several years older than him. After Jaeha got married, the love Eunho had for him was smothered as he grew up and moved on with his life. After coincidentally meeting Jaeha again at a cafe, Eunho tries to make his love come true.

So this is less of a plot, which is surprising that I like it considering that I get really bored if it’s only smut and no substance. But honestly, the character development is so sweet and pure that I end up liking it anyways because the author is less about some antagonist in the story ruining shit up but more of the emotional growth between Eunho and Jaeha.

Read it in:

What Does the Fox Say? (GL)

Seongji has just joined a mobile game company. Her face is stoic and she appears displeasing and even scary at times but her heart is very pure and she tries her best. Sumin, on the other hand, is her manager and a hot blooded woman who doesn’t hesitate to be crafty with her work and her workers.

OMG the art is so good and the story is a kind of slow in the beginning but the intense curiosity of Seongji and Sumin really keeps you on edge. This is probably one of my favorite GL webtoons ever not only because of the art but all of the characters so interesting.

I’m sure there’s more but these are some of my all-time favorites.

thecurlyharry  asked:

Hiiii! Could you recommend me some recent Harry fan fics??

oh wow unfortunately i haven’t had much time to read lately 😥 but i’ll tell you my faves!

@secret-rendezvous1d is always posting little blurbs and answering asks that melt my soul

i feel like @stylishmuser has posted a few things recently and all of palak’s writing is wonderful

i know @cuddlemusclestyles has a fic with an original character and harry going right now called tell me that’s bound to be as amazing as she is and is the first thing on my reading list as soon as i have more time

@aboutalighthouse and @johnlennon-harrystyles have their styles twins series that is to die for and i’m pretty sure @johnlennon-harrystyles has a full fledged original character fic on wattpad

@aqua-harry has harry lists and harry texts that ruin me (but not as much as Ruin You ruins me)

@alrightpetal has three one shots that are incredibly filthy and wonderful and amazing

all of  @stylesunchained ‘s one shots are fantastic, my personal favorite being leather

i’m slowly making my way through @permanentcross ‘s snowbound series and it’s actually one of my favorite series i’ve ever read, and i don’t say that lightly because i avoid dad harold like the plague, yet she’s completely captivated me and made me fall in love with him

so that should get you started, and definitely check out my fic rec tag for more amazing writing!

Six Times Voltage Inc Tugged at my Heartstrings

I’ve been playing Voltage games for about four years now, and I have to say, there were moments in certain routes that made me Feel Things™. Generally, Voltage games aren’t really known for being cynical or overly emotional. Heck, their games, while having some mature content, mostly have an optimistic feel to them. However, there were some moments in particular that stood out to me—those scenes were written powerfully enough to shake me to the core.

I have to admit, it was difficult for me to select a few moments from hundreds of routes, but I tried my best to narrow it down as much as I could.

Disclaimer:

  • I limited it to one character per game to avoid repetition.
  • I haven’t played every Voltage game (or route for that matter). The moments I’ve chosen only come from the games I’ve played.
  • I didn’t include SLBP because I only started getting into it recently (plus I don’t know too much about the other lords to make solid conclusions about them lmao).
  • This is all my personal opinion, so that means you probably won’t share the same views as I do, which is cool (I’d actually appreciate it if you told me what your favorite moments were :D).

Anyhow, let’s begin! (long post below):

Fantastic Lesbians and where to find them (FemSlash February)

It’s FemSlash February so at least once a week every week this month expect some lady on lady love to be filling your eyeballs. Now that isn’t rare content on my blog at all I write about this stuff all the time but my FemSlash February I will attempt to make it a super positive month (Positive from me, we’ll see).

America Chavez from Young Avengers:

America Chavez is one of my favorite characters of all time. Young Avengers is where we get to see her really shine although she doesn’t get to be in a romance I think it’s important that we have stories were queer people are queer but that’s just their orientation like the heteros get. So Young Avengers really works well with that and makes her just this awesome action hero that on further readings actually has a lot more depth in everything then when you first read.

Undyne and Alphys from Undertale :

One of the very few games to have actual lesbian characters inside of it. Undyne and Alphys in nearly all their interactions (at least in the mercy run) mention their things for one another in subtle (and not so subtle ways).  Anyway in the game you can get them to kiss so there is that. It’s a really cute romance and honestly I can’t think of another lesbian relationship in video games that aren’t with your self insert character (and they are super limited normally). (Edit: Several people pointed out Alphys is Bi, I never saw that inside the game this post was made from my experience with the game. )

Raven and more from Raven the Pirate Princess

Raven (as of issue 4) is the only real confirmed lesbian in this series but I mean she is the lead of the book, with the series named after her so you know expect other lesbians. There is already lots of romantic tension between people and Raven is a fantastic character. Raven is the rightful heir to a pirate dynasty but was sent off to a tower to be rescued (In Princless she is then rescued by a princess and amazing adventures happen for a volume). After going free she swore vengeance on her brothers for convincing their father to send her off. So she is building a new crew, has a new boat and is off to claim what is hers.

Kimber and Stormer from Jem and the Holograms

This is a romance I hadn’t expected but it’s truly outrageous how quick I feel for this couple. They are not treated like Misfits for being gay although their Romeo and Juliet esque love affair from Rival bands does cause tension.  These two are the leading romance in this book for sure even when you do have a cast of other awesome ladies.

Connie and Carla from Rock and Riot:

Rock and Riot is a webcomic so you can go read that for free at http://rockandriotcomic.tumblr.com/ set in the 50′s about  LGBTQ people. It’s a romance comic and it’s pretty new it’s first volume only recently went to print. This is a series that is really worth supporting and really worth reading. There isn’t a whole bunch of drama but right now our Lesbian couple and our gay male couple are both hiding their relationships from their gangs and we’ll see how that plays out.

Angela and Sera from Angela Queen of Hel

Angela and Sera are Marvel’s power lesbians. Angela is a goddess raised as an Angel who is in love with a magical trans woman who is also an Angel. She then has to dive into hell to rescue her lover from death because Sera is so clever she managed to let Angela know what had happened. They are both these insanely powerful lovers who are taking over freaking Hel. It’s this amazing Adventure Romance and these two’s love is just so amazing inside this comic. You don’t need any previous context to become totally committed to to these two’s deep love.

Maybe everyone from Lumberjanes:

No one in the janes is confirmed to be straight but we do have lots of gay hinting and straight up gay characters.  Mal and Molly are a cute couple that is there in the comic from the start. Jo seems to be at least at times romantically interested in April. Speaking of Jo Jo is trans and has two dads so that is awesome too. Hell even Roise the leader of the camp seems to have had some sort of close encounters of the feminine kind at some point.

All space rocks except for the bi one from Steven Universe:

I’ll start by saying I’ll just go ahead and block anyone who wants to be like “The gems don’t have a gender so not lesbians.” Moving on from that disclaimer you want lesbians Steven Universe is gay girls the show. Some of this gayness in blunt and other is just so gushing out of the subtext you have to be homophobic or at least not know gay people not to get it. Spoilers but Garnet is a fusion of two people in love meaning we just always have little lesbians dancing around inside of a main character. Even Steven is pretty gender non conforming so even though he seems straight you never know how straight that is. This show is just so amazing in general and if you haven’t watched it you should do yourself a favor and do it. From it’s brilliant soundtrack, acting, and animation to what it means for kids animation Steven Universe is A+ all the time.

ALRIGHT. LETS SIT DOWN AND TALK ABOUT: LAUREN’S FAVORITE PAGE IN NORAGAMI.

Excuse my enthusiasm, but I am VERY PASSIONATE about the following page.

ALRIGHT, THAT? THAT RIGHT THERE?

MY ABSOLUTE, UNRIVALED FAVORITE PAGE. NOW WHY, YOU MAY WONDER? WELL, LET ME TELL YOU.

THIS page right here takes place not long after the hospital disaster. The page BEFORE shows Yato’s call with Hiyori ending; she had been talking about how her brother was home for the first time in ages. After ending the call, Yato said “only people can save other people…” with that beautiful happy-sad look he so often gets. It drives itself RIGHT into my FUCKING HEART - because Yato is REALIZING that his role as a god might not be to interfere directly with people’s lives.

So why is THIS one my favorite, and not THAT one?

Well, it’s obvious. Blatantly so.

Character development.

We all know how Yato was raised. Depending constantly on his Father’s praise for emotional stamina. Depending on praise in general for emotional stamina.

What I’m saying is, Yato as a kid would have been torn apart to see Hiyori frantically hanging up, because she had a family to eat with. He would’ve been upset that she seemingly chose them over him. That he was going to be pushed to the back of her mind.

But look at current Yato.

He’s okay with this. He’s okay with it because. as I said, he’s realizing he doesn’t have to be there. Hiyori is happy! She’s getting better! And although that is partly thanks to his interference, it’s still her friends and family that pulled her back up the rest of the way.

Yato, the aspiring god of fortune, has realized that he can stand on the sidelines and people can still achieve happiness.

This ties into my dream ending for Noragami. I want Hiyori to be cut off from the far shore. No memories, no emotional connection, nothing. I want her to live her life with only her human friends and family. But I want Yato, the Fortune God that is steadily gaining popularity, to be okay with that. I want him to know that he needs only to cut away any phantoms that plague her or her family, keep her safe, watch over her from a distance. It would be a bit bittersweet, but I honestly think Yato (and Yukine) keeping Hiyori as happy as possible without interfering directly - until she dies at an old, ripe age - to be a much better ending than something vague, or knowing that she’ll die with her emotional connection with them in tact.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why this is my favorite page thus far in the entire Noragami series.

QUEENS REC : list of wonderful and amazing Malec and Shadowhunters fanfictions' writers - PART 1

I wanted to make a fanfics rec for a long time but there are so many it’s impossible de choose ! I can’t. So instead, I’ve made a writer’s rec. A queens rec, because let face the truth: they are queens. All of them (and a few kings, probably. I still haven’t met you sorry).

We have so many talented writers in this fandom, it’s a blessing. I said it before but I’ll never stop saying it: thank you, you gave me back the love of reading.

Selecting only a few was heartbreaking. Please forgive me. You all deserve a crown. I’ll give you one, in time, I promise.

If you don’t know her work you’re really missing something. Her two fics are simply amazing !

She has a way to take us so deep in hers characters mind that is stunning. Hers fics are not only Malec center so everyone has a place and is very well studied. It’s invigorating ! She doesn’t leave anyone on side and even has interesting OCs.

How to save a family is really brilliant for that. My favorites are Maryse and Jocelyn, two astounding mother figures with all hers complexity. The case of Max is also a very interesting and emotional one. I’ll let you find out why.

The confrontation between Alec and his AU self in Never stand between two mirrors is worth reading ! Intense and funny moments guaranteed.

Her serie of prompts Spaces Between is also remarkable and offer the scenes and POV we deserve.

Never stand between two mirrors
How to save a family*
Spaces between (serie)*

Lucile has gold in her hands. Really. She’s one of the best autor I ever read. But you surely already knew that.

You’re caught as soon the first sentence and emerged only at the end, three hours later (for the short one). You haven’t drunk, eaten or moved between. You just read because that was the only think you could do. Maybe you live-tweeted to yell at her but that’s the only exception.

Yes, I’m a big fan and have literally no will-power when it comes to Lu’s fics. First I scream when I receive the email or see the post, then I drop everything I’m doing to go read it. And let me tell you : I regret nothing. I’m not disappointed. Ever.

She has already written so many fics and I didn’t even read them all (I know I’m a walking scandal, don’t remind me ! I live with the shame everyday) but if I’ll have to chose one, it will be without a doubt Bright Lights, Small Town. This fic is a masterpiece. A beautiful, so well-written original story with strong and deep characters. It’s Magnus’ POV and he is just so endearing and vulnerable that you want to protect him at all cost ! This fic is about family, friendship and love. It’s about grief, moving on and make choices. This fic is about finding a home and there is not a single thing I don’t like about it. It has touched me in a way I can’t described. Run for it if you haven’t.

To build a home (serie) : Bright Lights, Small Town and extras
Stars Aligned (serie) : And the oscar goes to and following
I see fire
Dead men no tales
Invictus

Basically you’ll need a blanket, severals hot chocolate (or tea), a lot of tissues, and a loving pet or a plush to get over of her AU fics.

I’m not kidding ! Paparazzi is the most painful fic I’ve ever read, and I’ve read a lot. My heart broke at each chap and there 17 of them so far. The last part of chap 1 of Addicted to you put me on the floor for hours and chapter two was a roller-coaster for my nerves, always promising the sweet candy of happiness and fluff only to take it away before you could even grab it. In summary, Alec is an idiot and Magnus needs a hug or vice-versa. They’re two idiots in love with each others but don’t realize or accept it and make us suffer for their ignorance or stupidity.

But like her writing is so good I’m willing to suffer, and so should you. When angst is well-written it becomes more bearable (do you see the auto-persuasion here?). So be warn but go for it anyway. She promised happy ending so what’s a few stabs in the heart ?

Paparazzi*
Addicted to you
My true love gave to me

Jackie. Where do I begin ?

Once again I think I don’t have to introduce you to Take me to church, or as we can call it : the longest slow burn ever made. I really hope I don’t. If I do let me ask you something: where you living in a cave without wifi ? That the only excuse I’ll accept.

Slow burn takes all its meaning here. I hope you have patience. Like a lot. No seriously. Love make people blind but at this point it just ridiculous and you just want to bump into the story and scream at this two idiots desperately in love with each others. And you know the worse ? You watch them fall in love. Both of them. So you know. Izzy knows. Jace knows. Catarina knows. Everybody knows. Except them of course.  And on  top on that you have cute Clace and Sizzy, a strong parabatai bond, a brilliant Max Lightwood, Ragnord and Cat as friends of the years but for each year, and a helpful Raj.

I’ve hesitated with Queen of roller-caster because damn I hope you have a good heart. I don’t know how mine survived. Jackie have a way to snap your happiness in one sentence, make you scream of fear the next one to finally made you melt of cuteness two second later. It’s incredible. Seriously my heart had beated so fast so many times while reading this fic ! But you feel so alive, it’s worth it.

And her writing is just a blessing. I don’t count the number of times I had to stop reading because a sentence was so beautifully written that I had to take a moment. There is talent here. This fic really has a particular place in my heart. It’s one of the most beautiful and powerful love story I had the chance to read.

Oh and Fools rush in is extra ! Very different, much more fun and lightly that TMTC but still with angst because it’s Jackie and she can’t help it.

Take me to church*
Fools rush in*
Complete me

I was about to post this rec but Sam posted chapter 17 of In the sin bin before I could and now I don’t think she deserve to be in it anymore…

Yes that chapter ruined me and I’m still pissed. Who’s else ? Raise your hands !

Who else was already on the floor because of the last part of chapter 16 ? Welcome to the club.

And did you see it coming ? No ?! Yeah me neither ! And do you know why ? Because that’s what Sam does ! She always find something to surprise us (or kill us in that case). You think it’ll be okay, they’re going to be happy and then BAM cliffhanger, everything falls apart. How many times did she do that in 17 chapters ? (It was rhetorical question don’t answer that. I don’t want to know). I’m talking about ITSB but chapter 13 of Home was the same. If you read it now you’ll just have to click on next chapter, we had to wait a whole day to find out ! Hearthless.

I’m yelling because that’s what I do but ISTB is a must-read and a fantastic original story. I didn’t know anything about hockey, it’s not really a famous sport in France and I’m the less sportive person you’ll ever met. But reading Sam’s games ? Jesus I hope you have a good heart and aren’t in a public area. It’s more than likely that you’ll scream (of joy and frustration).

But ISTB is not about just hockey. Is about incredible and deep characters. You’ll find in love with Max Lightwood, he has even less chill than Lu. You’ll find in love with Magnus and his suits, Alec and his bread (just kidding they have amazing personality too). You’ll watch them fall in love. Because ITSB is about love, but also about friendship, family, support and team up. ITSB is about taboo and fame, about press and blackmail, about finding yourself and fight in what you love and believe.
