she is obviously too good for him but i hope as seasons go on she turns him into a better person

On Keith and leaving Allura behind

One thing I’ve always wanted to clear up is the ‘Keith is cold-hearted’ thing. I can see how the scene of him being ready to leave Allura behind might come across as such, to quote Hunk: “Keith, that’s cold-hearted even for you.”

But that is not how things actually are. Let me explain why he acted the way he did back then, because Keith has had just as many emotions about it as everyone else.

Keith is rational, observant and tends to state stuff exactly as it is, with all facts lied out to make sure that everyone gets the whole picture. (see: how he explained his board in s1e1, how he argues with Lance at the beginning of s1e3 etc.) He has been known to accept critique pretty well - he actively tries to work on his temper (“patience yields focus”) and accepted that Lance’s plan was better than his in s1e7. In turn, however, he expects people to treat him the same way. If there isn’t any evidence to contradict it, he takes things people tell him at face value and accepts them as facts. It is one of the reasons him and Lance clash often, Keith can be found constantly correcting Lance’s statements and Lance doesn’t appreciate that.

This is coupled with his rational personality. I have no doubt that part of that comes from having been forced to grow up without a family and people to comfort him when he was feeling lost, he has had to deal with reality screwing him over quite a lot of times already. He is extremely cautious and protective of his friends when a possible threat appears (see: how he placed himself in front of the team when Klaizap appeared in s1e2), probably exactly because he knows that when they are gone, they are gone. That happened to his dad, that happened to Shiro.

And now he thinks the same thing has happened to Allura.

It is not that he doesn’t want to help her - because he does. He really does, he even said so himself. (And he wasn’t lying. We all know that Keith is an absolutely horrible liar.) In his mind, there were four facts battling with one another: 1) I want to save my friend; 2) “the ship that is headed to Zarkon’s central command?” “the place that’s way too dangerous for us to attack?” (a direct quote from an exchange between Hunk and Keith from s1e10. Keith had accepted that information a fact); 3) we are fighting against an enemy we know next to nothing about; and 4) I am responsible for the entire universe and I can only protect it with Voltron, for which Allura technically isn’t essential.

So he stands there and goes through all the facts. And he comes to the - absolutely logical - conclusion that it is too dangerous to go to Zarkon’s headquarters. He could lose even more friends. He could lose the universe’s only hope. So he does what he always does: suppress his emotions for the greater good. He did that there, he did it when he decided to give up the blade in s2e8.

But then the others turn against him. We can’t see his face when they begin to vehemently protest against his statement-

-but I have no doubt that it would be serious and reflective. The backlash would have made him reconsider the conclusion he had come to. Because that’s what he does when he faces critique: take a step back and reevaluate. Obviously, fact 2) wasn’t quite right. [Also note how open his body language is, he is more than willing to discuss this.]

And once the execution of their plan starts, which means an actual chance for getting his friend back, he is right at the front of the group again.

Keith isn’t cold-hearted. Not at all. Does this look like the face of a cold-hearted person to you?

Because that is the face he made when he came to the conclusion that it would be too dangerous to save Allura. He is not happy about it. He genuinely believed that she was already lost and they were about to condemn the universe for a suicide rescue mission. If there is anything he can do to save his friends, he will do it. Like, seriously - he had never seen Zarkon before that episode. For all he knew, Zarkon could be 5ft tall, wield magic and be immortal. But as soon as he saw a normal-sized Galra in armor, Zarkon suddenly became less of an abstract concept and more of something that he has an actual fighting chance against. Look at how his attitude towards him changed in season 2, at the end of it he volunteered to infiltrate Zarkon’s base on his own!

(Also. He was the one that asked Allura if she was sure that she wanted to come with them: “I’m sorry, princess, did you say ‘we’?!” in s1e10. He was worried for her. There is no way he didn’t want her back.)

Keith constantly watches out for the greater good. It’s what he told Pidge when she wanted to leave to go look for her family - “everyone in the universe has families!” - and what he did when he gave up finding out about his past in the Trials of Marmora. He pushes his own emotions down because he genuinely believes one person’s life and/or comfort isn’t worth putting the entire universe at risk. And that does not equal being cold-hearted.

tl;dr: Keith has had perfectly valid reasons why he hesitated to go on the rescue mission. He wanted her back just as much as everyone else. He is not a cold-hearted asshole.

This isn't an inconsistency, but you might find it interesting nonetheless. During the Houston con in 2016, Jared launches into a story about eating sour lemons with Gen while visiting the Amalfi Coast in Italy between European conventions, in response to a question about the most romantic thing he's ever taken his wife on. I've always been struck by Jensen's facial expressions during this story, almost like he's remembering it happening... It's on youtube, about 25 minutes into the panel.

WELL WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS

first i gotta say that yeah jensen’s face is very sweet when jared tells the story, im sure it was a nice moment for them and he also gets that pensive face like he’s remembering, you’re right

now i hope you’ll excuse me because im about to elaborate a bit more on this moment

so i found this vid and this one

and basically jensen doesn’t give a fuck as usual and hets are the fucking worst as usual

like literally, that girl asks her question “i was hoping that each of you can tell us about the most romantic date you’ve ever taken your wives on” and first we got the audience “awing”, just disgusting (where is that gif of jared gagging when you need it??) but the real IMPORTANT thing here is jensen’s reaction!!!!!!!!!!! JUST LOOK

HE’S FUCKING EYEROLLING AS SOON AS THE HET ASKS HER QUESTION!!!!!!! OH MY GOD he’s so fucking DONE honestly just look at the video, you’ll see

pics from the other angle (i couldn’t make a gif because the person is shaking, too bad) before and after the question is asked:

he’s so fucking done!!!!!

like what the actual fuck is wrong with hets, who the fuck comes at a convention about a show to ask actors about their personnal lives?????

and it’s even worse since you’re asking closeted gay guys to make up fake stories and making them even more uncomfortable because they have to lie!!

anyway

im also really annoyed because look at all those gifs, look at them!  all those gifs were taken from this video but it has been deleted!!! im so frustrated!! because it seemed like a better angle and with this vid i think we could have had a better look at jensen’s eyeroll!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!!!! if anyone has saved it, make gifs of this moment please!!!

BUT WAIT IT’S NOT OVER YET

after the questions is asked jensen rolls his eyes but jared makes a joke so people laugh but jensen isn’t done showing he’s annoyed so it goes:

jared: i can’t tell you the entire story

jensen: why not we’re already going down that road (while making this face)

he’s not joking there, he’s done with those hets

and that reminds me of a video where someone asked them for a story about their kids (it was right after they had the first babies) and jensen already didn’t have time for this shit and he says something like “oh that’s it, there’s no more questions about the show, after 9 seasons, now the babies are more interesting” and people were laughing because those dumb hets can’t fucking see that jensen was seriously annoyed, they don’t understand his sarcarm, just like here in houston, they’re laughing without seeing he’s annoyed, just ugh

and then after that they don’t say anything for more than 10 seconds, nothing, just awkward silence because they have to make up some bullshit stories to answer

so jared obviously uses a moment he had with jensen and says something very genuine which makes it look authentic, and notice how he starts by saying that his story applies to all types of couples and saying that the unscripted moments are the most important and he says that one day “gen” told him “if you buy me flowers on valentine’s day and then nothing till the next valentine’s day then you can shove your flowers up your ass” and excuse the fuck me but that’s jensen talking there (and you can see him nodding a lot while jared was saying it lol)

and then he talks about not wanting his personal life to be scripted like it is during work so what they do is that they go on walks. and excuse the fuck me but how could you go on walks regularly since you’re most of the time in vancouver and gen in the US?? oh i know because those walks are with jensen!! and i can totally see j2 going on walks after work together to relax and bound as a couple rather than just as coworkers just like that moment at the beginning of the show when jensen showed jared a nice spot to eat during wendigo or dead in the water. and then jared tells the story in italy because that’s the only place where gen could have also been, during those bearding trips, and just tell me how am i supposed to believe that gen would eat a lemon raw???? are you fucking kidding me jared???? if she had been there she would have rolled her eyes and dismiss him for stealing them just like she dismisses him when he’s being his goofy self. so yeah that’s a total j2 story and yeah see the gifs at the top for jensen’s sweet smiles

and jensen’s answer is amazing!!! because he doesn’t even bother to make something up, he’s like “yeah yeah the unscripted moments right” and then he just said that it was the honeymoon!!!! he says “we really hit it on the head with the honeymoon” “that was one of the best romantic times” and yeah jensen said the best romantic times he’s had with danneel was the “honeymoon” where FUCKING GINO was invited to and where jensen said at another con HE HAD READ A GOOD BOOK!!! HAHAHAHAHHA!!!! IS HE EVEN TRYING????!!!! you guys remember that?? right?? that con where jensen remembered a book he had read during his honeymoon, that he had picked up because he was FUCKING BORED!!! DURING HIS FUCKING HONEYMOON!!!! where he had “the best romantic times”!!! oh my god jensen is not even trying i can’t believe this omg and meanwhile that dumb audience is howling and squealing like they’re wetting their panties because jensen shared a fake ass story about his fake ass honeymoon just….. it’s so fucking gross uuuuuuuuugh

and notice when he was done with the answer he IMMEDIATELY said a quick “thanks” and moved super fast to the next question!! he HATED that het question omg

it was like that other het question about knowing their “wives” were the ones, and jared was the one to fuck it up and jensen was the one to turn it into a gender neutral answer

so to end what i wanna say sincerely, from the bottom of my heart:

FUCK THOSE HETS. FUCK. THEM.

for putting jared and jensen in those uncomfortable situations all that so they can have their little fantasies and be comforted in their fake beliefs that j2 are straight and could be happy with women

Soulmates

Okay. NEW SERIES! I had to do it because my love for AJ is beginning to over take my whole life. I did this one based off an AU prompt that’s been floating around. Basically the OC has an antique necklace that her grandma gave her that’s got supposed special powers to find her soulmate. She obviously doesn’t believe that, until she meet AJ Styles (the man she’s been crushing on for a while now), in person for the first time and something odd happens.
I hope you all like it!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

I’m done with this god damn hate spreading through the fandom about how they handled the Malec sex scene. YES THEY COULDVE HANDLED IT BETTER AND YES THEY COULDVE WRITTEN IT DIFFERENTLY BUT THEYRE NOW GETTING INTO THE HEART OF THE STORY. They can’t fit everything in 40 minutes guys please understand that. This fandom is literally stooping to the level of the book!fandom and it’s starting to not only piss me off but really start to upset me. There’s literally nothing we can do to change the first half of season 2 but guess what? THEYRE SHOOTING 2B RIGHT NOW AND THAT MEANS THEY CAN STILL CHANGE SHIT. Voice your concerns to them now and make sure they do it better and not fuck up. For the love of God please just…..STOP SPREADING HATE. I REFUSE to see something as pure as this fandom be infected and poisoned like the damn book fandom is. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Voice your concerns but STOP THE DAMN HATE. Not only are we making fellow fans uncomfortable but we’re making the writers and directors feel like shit but have you stopped to think about how Matt and Harry are feeling about this? They work so damn hard to give Malec the representation they deserve and they work long and hard to not turn this fandom into the book!fandom. We all need to learn to respect that and voice our concerns civilly and not harshly. Let them know to change that in 2B. We can’t change 2A. Accept it. Now for the Izzy being addicted to Yin Fin thing? Just because she’s played by a Latina actress doesn’t mean it’s racist. If she was played by a white actress or a black actress or an Arabian or Asian one, the story still would’ve been the same thing. She would still be addicted to Yin Fin. This season is all about character development (THAT MEANS BOTH GOOD AND BAD) and that’s what they’ve been doing. Developing the characters. Clary and Jace are learning to love each other as siblings and move on. Clary is making split second decisions that usually fuck things up. Jace is being a douche because he’s been forced out of the institute and the field. Alec killed Clary’s mom and obviously is not handling it well considering he almost killed himself because of it. Izzy is going down a dark path BECAUSE OF ALDERTREE TRYING TO TEAR THE NY INSTITUTE APART FROM THE INSIDE. Simon grew a back bone and confessed to Clary while at the same time trying to move on and being called out for it by Maia. Magnus is obviously growing to care about the Shadowhunter group and his relationship with Alec is growing beautifully in the midst of this chaos and we’re getting bits and pieces of his back story which is amazing. He’s growing to trust the main cast which isn’t something easy for him to do so he’s opening himself up, and it’s wonderful. Luke is still mourning Jocelyn and that’s perfectly fine she was the love of his life, but he’s not gonna let Clary of anyone push him aside and walk over him like a doormat. Guys this is literally a season about changing the characters whether those changes are good or bad. That’s how character development works. That’s how it’s always worked. It can’t all be sunshine and rainbows and happiness. And Alec punching Raphael? We all know Alec is an impulsive person that’s been proven more times in both seasons especially season one. Isabelle and Magnus probably weren’t able to explain the whole situation before Alec immediately went after Raphael. I’m not saying Alec punching him was OK and I’m not trying to defend him but we all know that Alec is an impulsive person, so before you start to go bitch and complain about how he’s handling it just think for a second on how you would handle hearing your baby sister is addicted to drugs and went to a local source someone that’s in the same room with you to help with it. I would be pissed too and I would probably punch him as well. Because Raphael willingly bit Isabelle that first time in the alleyway. That second time? That wasn’t OK because Isabelle literally forced Raphael to bite her because she didn’t have access to Yin Fin and she was desperate so she went to desperate measures. It wasn’t right and she should feel bad and I hope she does because that wasn’t OK that was the drugs clouding her moral compass. I know we aren’t happy about some of the writing and editing mistakes this season but you have to remember that it’s only the first half of season two it’s already been written and it’s already been approved and aired and we can’t change it. We need to stop thinking we can, they are writing and shooting the second half of the season right now and things can still be changed so go let them know to not fuck up this time. So how about we all stop bitching and complaining about how the editing team could’ve done better or how the writers need to get their shit together and how 2A would be better if they did this thing one way and that thing the other and tell them to do better in 2B. Re-blog and spread this around the fandom please. Because even if I have to hold this whole damn fandom up by myself at the foundations so it doesn’t crumble I will gladly do it. I will not let this fandom crumble and become as toxic as the book fandom is. I will not give that satisfaction to Cassandra Claire. And if you really care about this fandom as much as I do you will re-blog and spread this around. I know this is a long post but this needed to be said. This will not be a toxic fandom I refuse to let it become such.

Felicity is the most misogynist thing about Arrow.

Felicity has consistently, from as far back as season 1, viewed every other woman has her competition. She’s thrown every other female character under the bus to better herself and it genuinely baffles me that Felicity fans accuse those who dislike her of being misogynist, because Felicity has - since her conception - been the writers primary tool to facilitate their own misogyny.

Felicity dug into Moira’s background (granted she was enlisted to do so, however she continued even after she was specifically told to stop). Felicity then used the information she’d found on Moira (that also involved Thea) as she saw fit, with no regards for the women in question. She told Oliver, simultaneously dismissing Moira’s privacy, driving a wedge in the Queen family, viewing Oliver’s opinion as higher than either Moira or Thea (who the info ACTUALLY concerned) and faciliated the writer’s need for Queen Family Drama and more Oliver-man-pain.

Felicity made a petty remark of “What was it fantasy island?” Because she found out about Shado and Sara being present on Lian Yu. Oliver is traumatized and is hallucinating about a dead Shado, is consumed with guilt over her death and has consistently expressed that the island was too horrifying for him to talk about. And Felicity gets so jealous over the mere existence of a dead girl who was a part of Oliver’s life literal years before Felicity even knew he existed, to the point where she makes scathing comments and flippant remarks about his trauma.

Felicity needs to be reassured and explicitly told that SHE is Oliver’s ‘girl’ when Sara joins the team, because she doesn’t see Sara as an equal and is so threatened and intimdated by another woman joining the team they needed to literally specify that Felicity is The Girl ™. God forbid women work togehter and value each other without being pitted against each other.

Felicity called Oliver’s own mother diabolical AT HER FUNERAL, clearly not having any respect (if not for Moira as a person then she should have AT LEAST have respect for what she meant to Oliver), and this disgusting comment is never addressed or considered out of line in the narrative whatsoever. She also made a similar quip after Amanda Waller was shot.

Felicity is rude, dismissive, ashamed of and disrespectful to her mother near constantly. She looks down on her for not being as intelligent and slut shames her for her dress, despite the fact Donna raised Felicity single-handedly and dotes on her daughter completely.

Before I go on I’d love to point out that ALL OF THIS SO FAR (with the exception of the Waller comment) took place in Seasons 1&2, because people seem to forget that Felicity has always been awful, and they’re viewing the earlier seasons with rose-tinted glasses because seasons 3&4 were just THAT BAD.

When Season 3 started, Olicity was suddenly a thing, and they shoehorned in some flashbacks to try and make it more feasible, one of which included Felicity randomly walking into her boss’ office at QC after hours with no purpose, spying a photo of Oliver on a desk and commenting aloud to herself how cute he is and how “its a pity you’re dead”. This doesnt have anything to do with her treatment of women, but atleast her lack of respect for the dead is a consistent character trait!

Felicity continues to throw Thea under the bus, what started with Felicity telling Oliver about Thea’s true parentage, driving a wedge in the family and neglecting to tell Thea (or moira, who’s secret it was to tell), continues with Felicity outright telling Oliver not to save his sister because it might result in his death (a risk that Oliver has already stipulated that he’s willing to take).

But it gets worse!! A newly resurrected Thea is struggling with bloodlust and is too traumatized to return to her apartment because of what happened there, she moves in with Laurel, because Felicity and Oliver wanted to drive off into the sunset and play house. Months later it’s revealed that Felicity has been consulting with the team behind Oliver’s back the whole time and not once did she suggest they return and not once did either of them consider that Thea might need him. Its also never once addressed that Felicity was wrong for lying and keeping secrets, because Felicity is never wrong!!

(Also in The Flash, Felicity straight up told Eddie that it was completely fine for him to lie to Iris if it was for her own good!)

Then, when Felicity finds out Oliver fathered a child years ago that he didn’t know about, her temper tantrum caused such a distrubance in the team dynamic that they got killed and Barry had to go back in time to correct the timeline to stop it from happening. So Barry obviously knew about the kid.

William’s mother straight up tells Oliver that she doesnt trust him or his intentions and if he wants to get to know his son then it has to be a secret and strictly as a family friend until she’s convinced he’s in it for the long haul (this makes total sense given the Oliver she knew was a selfish, egotistical playboy who was NOT father material, she needs to see that he’s changed, and not overwhelm her son unnecessarily if it turns out that he hasnt).

When William is kidnapped and Felicity finds out about him as a result, she is petty and juvenile while they’re working, completely dismisses and gets snappy with Samantha when she apologizes, even when Samantha takes full responsibilty for what she asked Oliver to do, and not once does Felicity ever ask about William’s wellbeing. Felicity is surpised to discover that William - like Oliver - likes baseball, and makes YET ANOTHER SCATHING COMMENT AT OLIVERS EXPENSE by saying that they should hope the resemblence ends there, because she apparently thinks that her fiancee has absolutely no positive qualities whatsoever that might be nice to pass on.

Felicity then breaks up with Oliver for lying to her, even though he didnt want to but had to if he wanted to know his son. Even though she spent months lying to him mere weeks earlier, even though she told Eddie that lying was okay. Even though she told her mother the prior week that it was okay if Quentin kept things from her because she should trust he had a good reason.

Felicity then keeps the apartment (yknow the one that used to be Thea’s until she had to move in with Laurel to deal with her trauma), as a result Oliver slums it out in the Arrow cave, because depsite running for Mayor, Oliver is unemployed. Felicity has a CEO salary but of course she keeps the apartment. She’s Felicity. God himself shit her out and she is completely right all the fucking time even when shes a self-righteous, hypocritical piece of shit.

Felicity makes bitchy comments about the breakup when theyre trying to work even though she was the one to end it, she then tells Oliver that he will always be who he was on that island. She basically told him the most traumatic experience in his entire life is all he will amount to, and the person he is as a result of his trauma is not someone she can love and its his fault that he’s that way because apparently she’s a victim blaming piece of shit as well as a hypocrite.

Laurel dies and on her deathbed tells Oliver that Felicity is the best thing for him despite the fact she loved him too. The writers wanted to 10000000% make sure that we all know that Felicity is The Girl ™ and anyone at all that might’ve potentially maybe been competition just pales in comparison, my guy.

Diggle is traumatized by the situation with his family and Felicity makes YET ANOTHER INSULTING, DISRESPECTUL “JOKE” AT OLIVER’S EXPENSE by saying Diggle is “one illegitmate child away from a great Oliver Queen impersonation”, making another dig at William, yknow the kid that she dumped Oliver over, the one Oliver didnt know about himself until shortly before she did, the kid that Oliver had to say goodbye to, before he’d even gotten the chance to be a dad to, in order to keep him safe. (But she loves Oliver so much guys! Honest! So totally cares about his wellbeing and whats best for him, even at the detriment of herself, I swear!)

TL;DR in conclusion, Felicity is a misogynist tool that the writers have been employing from day one. Its a common trope in fiction. She’s the token female character that all other females get compared to/dismissed for. They pit women against each other at every available oppprtunity and have Felicity become this untouchable writers-pet that is never called out and can never be wrong and she’s just so great and can do everything and everyone loves her and no one seems to question any of the horrible things she does because she is so righteous in her writers-pet bubble!

And because she’s a woman they try and champion this as ground-breaking and feminist, when its actually extremely misogynist and anti-feminist, especially when you consider that if the tables were turned and OLIVER was the one doing all this shit to Felicity, then people would be out for blood and screaming misogyny from the rooftops, but because Felicity herself is a woman, they think that it makes her exempt.

But felicity isnt a woman, she’s not real, she’s a puppet being controlled by men and theyre using a female character to get away with misogyny.

The whole idea of The Girl ™ and the concept that one female character has to be the 'Alpha’ and something happens to every other female to prove that she is clearly The Best of the women, is always inherently misogynist and exists to fasciliate pitting women against each other.

Jared x Reader: Part I

(Part II)

Pairing: Jared Padalecki x reader

Warning(s): Implied death of Gen and sad!Jared… Like, Jared being sad would make me sad, but other than that, I think it’s good! (Like, literally. This is super chill, and there’s not even a kiss. Nooo! lol [Reader and Jared aren’t a couple yet.] But maybe I’ll write a part 2. idk) (Okay, like two/three cuss words?, but yeah.)

Summary: It’s been exactly two years since Gen died in a car accident, which makes it’s a pretty hard day for Jared, but he still keeps going with his panels.

Word count: 1388 (Whew! Ended up a little longer than I really expected!)

A/N: I just really want to make sure people don’t think that I don’t like Genevieve Cortese/Padalecki. I think her and Jared are a freaking adorable couple, and she’s awesome! This just popped into my head Tuesday morning, so I wanted to write it. (Not to mention all the JIBcon 8 panels I’ve been watching… lol) Hope you guys like it!
(Picture credit goes to @polystyrenejen on Twitter!)

I watched Jared answering questions up on stage from the side door. He’d been doing pretty well all of today, trying to act like he wasn’t struggling with what day it was. He was more quiet and down when he wasn’t around fans, but he smiled and laughed during photo ops and autographs and his panel with Misha had gone well. The fact that most of the fans knew what day it was, was helpful too, since they were being a little more sensitive.

This was his last thing for today, his solo panel.

I was about to head back to the green room, when I heard somebody ask, “What’s your favorite season and why?”

I stopped, knowing what the answer usually was. Season four. The season he met Genevieve in. But today was a bad day to ask that. A really bad day. I turned around to look at him.

Jared froze for a second before swallowing hard. “Um… Uh, probably season four.”

Okay, let it go. You got a partial answer.

“Why?” the fan repeated.

Oh, God, please no…

Jared bit his lip, looking up at the high ceiling for a second, and glanced back. “I, um, it’s the season where I, uh, met-” his voice broke “-Gen.”

The person asking the question looked genuinely confused, as if they weren’t sure why Jared was getting emotional. They were either new and hadn’t had the chance to find out anything about our cast yet or they really just didn’t know much about Jared in general.

I walked up to Ashlyn, the woman who made sure the cast left their panels on time and whispered to her, “Can I crash his panel for the last few minutes?”

4x02 Recap - Heavy Lies the Crown (The 100)

This was a quality episode. It’s not gonna jump on to my all time faves list, possibly because pretty much everything was spoiled beforehand (can’t wait to be past the screener eps, honestly), but it was some high calibre shit.

Warning: I am in a foul and irritable mood. If this recap is saltier than usual, I apologise. Unless you like salt, in which case - I did it especially for you!

so it’s no news that an infuriated debate is surrounding iron fist. i’m not gonna get into that here. i will, however, offer my pov on what makes it a better show than we’ve been reading in the past ten days or so. contains spoilers:

  • it’s a feel good show with a light-heartedness to it. daredevil, jessica jones and luke cage were pretty dark and socially/politically charged on a level, iron fist really isn’t asking to point you the way to anything. danny is extremely traumatized but the writing won’t allow it to weigh on your shoulders thanks to the innocence that’s also inherent to the character and often paints him as a most unlikely hero. you might feel for him (if you have a heart, i guess) but once you’ve closed your netflix tab you’ll probably just be as hopeful as he is or forget about his problems altogether. i’m not sure i’d have watched daredevil with my younger brother, but i’d surely watch this one with him.
  • danny rand’s story is one of loss, trauma and even rejection that i’m sure can resonate with many people even though they never punched a dragon. anyone danny’s age (or even not) can definitely feel like they don’t belong, and maybe i’m overreading but the fact that he can’t always control his titular fist feels like an allegory of how all of us often can’t or won’t find our own energy and strengths to get ourselves out of a bad place.
  • it’s been argued that danny lacks charisma and generally the quality of a hero. it’s true, but that’s because the narrative wants him to. he’s a boy who has no idea who he is or what he’s doing, although he might sometimes think he does. his naivete is the point of the character and while he can also be problematic those aspects of him are never celebrated. i don’t know how that’s going to evolve in other seasons/shows, but season 1 danny is no hero because he’s not supposed to be. to be quite honest, if critics didn’t get that i have no idea how to help them.
  • to offer some support to what i just said: there are scenes in which characters flat out tell danny he’s “the worst iron fist ever” and a pretty underwhelming fighter (i’m using kinder words than those that were actually uttered). he’s repeatedly called out on his shit and kept at arm’s length, his ability to be the iron fist is openly questioned and no one ever restrains from pointing out he really isn’t the sharpest pencil.
  • there are five women on the show, and they pretty much to various extent carry it by moving the plot forward. take joy: she could have been the good sister to the bad brother but she helped danny regain his place in the company because it was the right thing to do and then single-handedly kept three asses in it when they were voted out. jeri showed a more human side to her character while also being a boss ass bitch against the meachums, not to mention she took way less than half of new york combined to figure out whether danny was actually whom he claimed to be or not. now, the three women of colour then deserve a bullet point each.
  • colleen is a wonderful character. resourceful and independent, like danny she’s long been a little detached from the world (namely left in japan with her grandfather) and can feel like a fish out of water. she’s young and idealistic but also way more experienced and mature than danny, which makes them both a sweet, even touching pair and a not-so-ideal match (claire’s words, more or less). with her great fighting skills and her complexity she’s rightly considered the highlight of this show.
  • claire is too cool for me to describe so i’ll just say she keeps being wonderful and offering a refreshing, grounded point of view to the craziness that surrounds her. sweet christmas!
  • madame gao is a force of nature. she’ll just stand (or sit) there and offer serafic words of wisdom and even when put in a corner she’ll be the most powerful person in the room. her ability to mess with people’s head by simply spilling uncomfortable truth makes her frightening because really is there an enemy more dangerous than some part of us we don’t want to face? and, well, obviously she’s one hell of a criminal mastermind. i haven’t been this terrified since fisk and she barely raised an eyebrow this whole season.
  • when finn jones said this was the most diverse show in the marvel/netflix universe many might have laughed out loud, but turns out he was right. there are episodes in the back half of the season, especially towards the end, where he is pretty much the only white character around.
  • i’m very excited about davos. his position and motivations are understandable and i like that he’s not a villain born but he’s coming from a place of love and loyalty. this, along with the fact that he wanted and felt more deserving to be the iron fist, really makes for a compelling opponent. i’m not sure where this alliance with joy is going, but i can’t wait to find out.

Livia Myles snorted with disdain at the red circle surrounding the date before tearing her eyes away from the calendar hanging on the wall. Tomorrow was February the fourteenth. Who cared? Everyone on the WWE roster except her, apparently. She used to care, once upon a time. She used to get all giddy with excitement too whenever that date came around. But that was when everything was going right for her.

What a difference one year made.

It felt like it was just yesterday when she was celebrating Valentine’s Day with her fiancé and making plans for their summer wedding. He would soon dump her and run off with another woman a month before they were to marry. Apparently he just couldn’t “keep up with her busy work schedule”. Then, as if she hadn’t been humiliated enough, he proceeded to publicly and unapologetically flaunt his new trophy on every social media platform there was to offer. Her eyes welled up with tears at the thought of that asshole and everything she had sacrificed for his ungrateful ass.

Happy Birthday Hannah!

It’s going to be hard to match the amazing fic you and Jane wrote but I really hope you like it.

Based off the “I accidentally sent you a selfie of me in the tub and you sent one back and damn you’re cute” au.

Percy is on his third bowl of cereal and exactly half way through the first, and sadly only, season of Daredevil on Netflix, enjoying a well deserved night in when his phone goes off. Percy keeps his eyes locked on the small TV sitting on the stack of textbooks across the tiny apartment from him while he fumbles for the phone. He pats the couch blindly until his hand hits the stupid thing and knocks it off the couch. Percy groans, tearing his eyes away from the TV long enough to see where his phone has flown off too.

For a second he debates just leaving it but if the text could be from Grover, asking if Percy wants enchiladas which is definitely moving from his comfy spot on the couch. He pulls his feet off the second hand coffee table carefully, always afraid he’ll break the thing since it’s mostly held together with glue and ducks to grab his phone. With a quick slide of his thumb he opens the message from a strange number he doesn’t recognise and nearly covers his lap in knock off Fruit Loops.

The text isn’t just a text, it’s a picture of a pair of very long, very tan, very gorgeous legs propped up on the edge of a tub in what looks to be a bubble bath. It takes him an embarrassingly long time to pick his jaw up off the floor. When he finally gets himself together he notices the caption at the bottom reading This is the better thing I have to do on a Friday night.

Obviously the message wasn’t meant for him, Percy doesn’t get random bath selfies from owners of very attractive legs. He has no idea what to do though, they don’t offer a class on how to handle getting an accidental, partially nude selfie from a random number. Percy swallows and stares at the picture a second longer, something about the legs is strangely familiar. That’s when it hits him, they’re Her legs. Annabeth Chase, the way out of his league, way too smart blonde that sits in front of him in Mythology 218.

Chapter 9 - Can A Man and Woman Be Just Friends?

Disclaimer: Hello to my fellow Joshifer shippers and tumblr users. I’ve decided to get things up and running again with Joshifer by publishing chapter 9. If you are still with me on my fanfiction, which I’m praying you are, then I hope you enjoy this chapter. There’s more to come, don’t worry. Don’t forget to like, reblog and share! xo.

I arrived home less than ten minutes later, covered in sweat. To my surprise, my parents arrived before I did and were sitting at the dining table; they both smiled, chuckling as I unclipped Lulu’s chain, allowing the basset hound to collapse, exhausted, by my mother’s feet. My mom abandoned the shiny black quilted Chanel purse I’d bought for her birthday, reaching down to stroke Lulu’s fur.

“She’s beat.” Mom laughed, her fingers skimming along the dog’s back. “What’d you do? Run a marathon?”

“Kinda.” I conceded, mopping the sweat off my brow. “I was in a hurry to get home. Josh is dropping by in a couple of minutes.” I smile sheepishly. “I hope you don’t mind.”

“No, of course we won’t.” My dad said, lowering the newspaper. “We did invite his family after all. It’s just a little earlier than we were expecting.”

“You what?”

“We sent them invitations via email two weeks ago.” My mother confirmed. She got up and refilled Lulu’s water bowl at the kitchen sink. “Michelle said she couldn’t come, neither can Chris. So it’s totally okay if it’s just Josh. At least we have a member of the Hutcherson family here.”

I stared at them, flabbergasted. They hadn’t mentioned inviting my best friend and his family over, not in the last hundred text messages or phone calls we exchanged. Oh well. I shrug, attempting to pass off the gesture as nonchalance. “I’m gonna take a quick shower. Can I help with anything before I do?”

“No, honey. Go on up. We’re all good.”

“Okay.” Without further ado, I went upstairs. I grabbed a quick change of clothes and headed for the communal bathroom. During the years that my brothers and I shared the bathroom, it had been messy, hectic; with clothes everywhere, toothbrushes strewn all over the sink.

Now, it was pristine. My mother had repainted the walls, although still in the same colour. The room emitted a pleasant, floral smell. By the corner of the bathtub lay a stack of neatly folded fresh towels and on the sink was a vase of lilies.

Grinning slightly, I shed my clothes and hopped into the shower. After an hour beneath the sun, it felt good to wash away the sweat. I lingered in the shower a little longer than usual, kneading the shampoo carefully into my hair and scrubbing the soap onto my skin.

As soon as I finished, I turned off the tap, clambering carefully out of the tub. While I was towelling off, taking great care to drain water from my hair, I heard a familiar voice. Holding my breath, I sidled closer to the door, pressing my ear against the wood.

“Josh, sweetie, come on in!”

I gasped.

“Happy birthday, Karen. I’m sorry I stopped by a little early. But here, I got you something.”

“Oh don’t worry. Why, thank you. You didn’t have to do that.”

“No, please, it’s not a big deal. I hope you like it.”

“I’m sure I will, honey. Come, come. Are you hungry?” My mother asked. “I can rustle up some pancakes for you, if you like.”

“Would you kill me if I said I was?” Josh chuckled easily. I heard my mother’s resounding, tinkling laugh.

“Of course not. Go sit down, you’ve had a long drive.”

“Thanks, Karen.”

I dressed quickly as the voices faded; almost tripping over myself in my haste to pull on a pair of jeans. When I was done, I brushed my teeth, working to remove any traces of cinnamon roll. I blow dried my hair, combing my short locks until they were dry and tangle free.

Prying open my toiletries kit, I put on some makeup, abruptly conscious of the effort I was putting in. It had been a long time since I cared this much about the amount of cosmetics I used. I squinted my eyes as I dabbed on some lipgloss. When I was done, I leaned back, staring at my reflection.

Not too much. Simple. I couldn’t help but smile just a little. I looked pretty good. I hurried downstairs, the smile on my face expanding the minute my eyes met his warm hazel ones.

Josh was sitting at the table with my father, deep in conversation. They were playfully arguing about March Madness; deciding which of the team’s performed better. He flashed my favourite crooked grin.

“Hey.”

“Hey.” I chuckled at our plain greeting.

I wrap my arms around his shoulders enthusiastically, hugging him. He responded in kind, giving my waist a gentle squeeze. I held onto him a second longer than usual, aware of how much I missed him. He smelled the same. Like fresh linen and mint.

“What’s up, Jen?” Josh asked, releasing me.

“Eh, not much. Went for a walk. Nothing special. How about you? What have you been up to?” I took a seat at the table, across from him. He followed my lead, sitting down just as my mom set a stack of fresh pancakes in front of him.

“Well, it’s been a long ass drive from Union. But it was great to be home. I never actually left the house. I hung around with my folks, my brother and my grandma.” He poured a generous measure of maple syrup. “God, it makes me thankful we’re filming so close by. I get to see my family more often.”

“Yeah you got that right.” I agree, with an affectionate glance at my father.

“So, how’s the prep for the party coming along? Can I help?” Josh asked thickly, his mouth full of pancake. I shook my head, grinning and help myself to a few pieces.

Dad folded up his newspaper. “Things are good, son. All ready. You don’t have to lift a finger, we got most of the stuff out. You can just hang out until the party starts.”

“Are you sure?”

This time, my mother answered, taking a seat beside him. “Yes, we’re sure. Thanks for the casserole dish, honey, I’ve been looking for one of these.” She pulled the bubble wrap off a shiny glass platter, turning it over with undisguised glee. I recognised the product instantly; it was a Williams Sonoma item, a brand my mom loves so much.

“Sure.” Josh replied easily. “My mom and grandma love those. They actually helped me pick it out two days ago. I think it’s their way of compensating for not being able to come today.”

“Oh, tell them not to worry. It’s not a big deal.” My mom said anxiously, her brow creasing.

“Don’t sweat it, Mama Lawrence. It’s all good. They added a gift voucher too, I think. From um, this Australian outdoor brand, Wild Earth. It’s got all this neat camping stuff, everything you’ll need for the summer season.”

“Oh, how wonderful!” My mother exclaimed, her eyes skimming across the birthday card Josh had written. Sure enough, a voucher fell out from inside the envelope; emblazoned with the image of an enormous oak tree. “Wow, this is too much. Michelle didn’t have to..”

“My mom told me not to take no for an answer, to make sure you accept the card without any hassle.” He grinned mischievously. “Her words, not mine.”

“Obviously, Michelle’s just as stubborn as you are, honey.” My dad chuckled.

“Well, I don’t know what to say. Thank you, Josh.” My mother kissed the top of my best friend’s head affectionately, her manicured hands resting lightly on his shoulders. “I’ll thank your mom in a minute.”

“You’re welcome.” Josh beamed, pleased at my mom’s response. His obvious delight made my heart skip several beats. He truly was a selfless person, a person who did everything they could to make a person happy. And delighted in making their lives better. “This is so good, by the way, Karen. Thanks.”

“No problem, sweetie.”

“Son, do you have somewhere to stay tonight because..” My father began, leaning forward. Josh interrupted quickly, politely cutting across my father’s statement.

“Don’t worry, I’ll find a hotel nearby. I wouldn’t want to impose on you more than I already have, sir.” I roll my eyes in his direction. He had the manners of a proper Southern gentleman. When he wasn’t messing around, of course.

“You wouldn’t be.” Dad smiled, looking at him with fatherly concern. “If you’d let me finish, I was gonna say that you’re more than welcome to stay here. God knows, we have enough room.”

“Woohoo, sleepover!” I nudge Josh playfully. “Late night horror movie marathons, popcorn.”

“Uh, you hate horror movies.” He said, sniggering.

“Not when I have people to watch it with. Remember when I watched Insidious by myself and I called you screaming?”

“Ah, yeah that’s right. Fine, I’ll watch one with you. Is it okay if I stay?” He asked, turning to my parents.

My mother smiled. “Of course, honey. We’re happy to have you here.” She ruffled his dark hair fondly. “You can take your pick of Ben or Blaine’s rooms.”

“Wow, so many choices.” Josh chuckled appreciatively. “Thanks again.”

“You’re welcome, son.” My father said, disappearing once more behind his daily newspaper.

Lingering at the table, I made myself a cup of hot cocoa while I waited for Josh to finish his meal. The atmosphere in the kitchen was easy, natural; my mother remained at the sink, cooking more of the pancakes. My father was ruffling through the newspaper again, pausing to peruse the sports section while making snide comments about the Cincinnati Reds. In between bites, Josh impishly replied back, his answers just as witty.

When I sat down, mug in hand, he was halfway through his meal and in the midst of an animated conversation with my father. In this, they were very much alike; they stood by their favourite teams, staunchly defending them from criticism. I sipped my cocoa, not bothering to keep up. Football didn’t interest me as much as it did them.

There were dregs at the bottom of the mug by the time my best friend had finished his meal. He placed a hand above his lips, narrowly suppressing a burp. I raised an eyebrow, wondering if he was finally done.

“Yep, I’m good.” Josh said, catching my eye. “This was so yummy, Karen, thank you.”

“Of course, dear. You two can watch some TV, if you like.”

“Are you sure there’s nothing I can help with?” He asked helpfully, getting to his feet. I mimicked him, approaching the sink so I could rinse out my dirty mug before replacing it in the dish washer.

“Not right now, but if you could help me work the grill later, that’d be great.” My father answered, lowering the newspaper slightly.

“Definitely. You just tell me when.” Josh nodded eagerly.

“Okay. Now run along, you kids.”

We left my parents in the kitchen, heading for the living room. I sat on the couch cross-legged while Josh took my father’s arm chair. He rubbed his stomach contentedly, unsuccessfully suppressing a burp.

I giggle appreciatively, responding with a burp of my own. We laughed even harder, amused at our childishness. By the time we were done burping, I could feel the strain in my cheeks.

“Yeah, I’m gonna stop in case I throw up.” Josh said, taking a deep breath. “So, what do you feel like doing, Jen?”

“Hmm.” I pause, lifting my fingers to my chin. “I’ve already done some running and showered so maybe not something too physical. Everything’s already set for Mom’s birthday tonight.. Let’s see.. Umm..” I hemmed and hawed a mite longer.

“God, you’re so indecisive.” He teased, watching me chew my lips.

“Shut up please.” I held up a hand imperiously. “I’m trying to think.” I close my eyes, doing my best to ignore him sniggering as he lolled in the arm chair. “Well I can’t think with you giggling over there in the corner!”

“Then, let me make a suggestion.”

“No.” I fold my arms across my chest.

“Come on, I promise it’ll be fun.”

“Hmm, fine, I’m all ears.”

“What do you think about going to the zoo? I passed one on my way over here and I dunno, I was thinking.. ‘I haven’t been to one since I was a kid.’ Like on a field trip before my mom homeschooled me.”

“A zoo..” I tilt my head, mulling it over.

“Just for a few hours, at least until the party anyway.”

“Yeah, why not?” I stand up, straightening the cream coloured shirt I wore. “I’m all for seeing monkeys that are not like the CGI mutts we fought in Hawaii.”

Josh laughed. “Oh good point.”

“Let me just grab a sweater and we can go.” Suddenly, I came upon a brilliant idea. “Hey, I have a thought. Can we take Bear with us? Theodore’s a bit too young. But if you want it to be just us, then that’s cool as well.”

“Sure.” He smiled easily, catching me off guard.

“Um, what? Aren’t you gonna give this some thought?”

“No, seriously Jen, it’s fine. Of course we can take Bear. We just have to get a car seat for him.” Josh said soothingly. I search his eyes for signs of reluctance but found none.

“Yay! We can swing by Ben’s place and borrow theirs. I’ll call him, hang on.” I reply, one arm in the left side of my black trench coat.

“Wait, we can do that in the Jeep. It has the in-built phone system. I got his number dialled in, don’t sweat it.”

“Are you sure?” I button up my coat, gazing at him uncertainly.

“Yes.” Josh crossed the room to pat me on the back. “If I didn’t want to, I would have said something.”

“Okay.”

“Great. Let’s go to the zoo!!”

I laughed at his childlike enthusiasm. “Lead the way, Hutch!”

****

An hour later, we were standing outside the wrought iron gates of the Louisville Zoo. Josh had gone to buy us tickets; a feat which was easy, given the off-peak time. There was only a handful of visitors; mostly young families with children still too young to be in school.

I held Bear’s hand while we waited. My brother and sister-in-law had agreed enthusiastically to our offer to take him to the zoo with us. While they loved him dearly, it was taking up all their energy looking after a newborn and a toddler with limitless energy. The kid in question was appropriately dressed for the outing; wearing khaki pants, shirt and small black boots. A matching green hat concealed his blonde curls.

Bear was hopping on the balls of his feet, tugging at my hand in his haste to see the animals. I tightened my grip on his ever so slightly, stilling him. He looked up at me, his features twisted in a grimace. Oh boy, we were about five seconds away from a tantrum.

Josh rejoined us, waving the tickets in his hand. I sighed with relief as my nephew’s face cleared. He thrust his little fist in the air at the sight of my best friend coming toward us. I squeeze his hand affectionately, feeling him pull me forward.

“Here we go. Got the tickets!” Josh announced cheerfully. He used his free hand to lightly tap Bear’s nose, making the child giggle. “You ready for safari time?”

“Yea!”

I chuckle as he handed the tickets to a bored-looking teen employee. “Thank god you got back in time. This little shit was five seconds away from a full tantrum.”

“Saved by the bell, hey?” Josh’s eyes twinkled as he laughed.

“You have no idea.”

Once the tickets had been returned, we went inside. Josh unfurled a large map of the zoo, examining it intently. “Okay we’re right outside the Reptile House, if you wanna go in there first. Otherwise we can visit the Aviary, where they keep the birds.”

I knelt down so I was eye to eye with my nephew. “Which one do you want to see first? Bird or snake?”

Bear frowned in concentration, a line appearing above his brows. “Snake.” He said seriously.

Grinning, I straightened. “He’s cast his vote. He wants to see the snakes.”

“Then, snakes it is.”

The three of us headed for the Reptile House. Inside, the House was almost entirely dark; save for a few lights. The air was heavy with a myriad of sound; hissing, chattering and soft music. We hurried forward to the nearest cage.

Inside the cage was a layer of fine dry red earth. There, among the twigs, leaves and branches, lay an enormous Burmese Python. Its coils upon coils of gleaming dark scales shone beneath the dim light. At the moment, it lay still, obviously asleep despite the three pairs of eyes that were ogling it.

Bear jumped up as far as he could go, trying to see the snake, but obviously not quite making it. Chuckling, I lifted him into my arms, keeping my hands wrapped tightly around his middle. He peered closely at the tank, eyes fixed on the snake in fascination.

“Do you see it?” I whisper. “Look at how big the snake is.”

“Yes. 'Is big.” Bear whispered back. He placed his hands on the glass, leaving messy handprints everywhere. “Why is it sweepen?”

“Well, it’s probably just had something to eat.” Josh said, watching the reptile move slightly, its tail twitching. “They feed em’ very rarely apparently. Like once or twice a year. Or so I’ve read anyway.”

“So what do they eat?”

“Dead mice, fresh chicken, meat.” He shrugged, counting the items off his fingers. “It takes them forever to, like, digest the food which is why they’re only fed a couple of times. You know, unless they get sick. Buddy.” He added, addressing my nephew. “You might wanna take your hands off the tank. The snake might not like it.”

Bear looked at him curiously for a moment before pulling his hands away. He struggled out of my hold, his arms outstretched, fingers pointed in Josh’s direction. Josh chuckled softly before lifting the boy out of my arms.

“Is it hungwy now, Unca Josh?”

“No, I don’t think so, little man. But do you know how they eat if they don’t have hands like we do?”

My adorable nephew shook his head, hanging on to Josh’s every word.

“They squeeze em’ like this.” I watched as Josh ever so slightly tightened his grip around Bear’s middle, making the child giggle in delight. “Then they open their mouths and swallow the food.” He tickled Bear’s tummy.

“Don’t eat me, Unca Josh.”

“Of course I won’t. You’re a good boy.” He set my nephew back on his feet, giving him a pat on the head. “The snake only likes naughty people.”

“Guess you’re included in that category.” I say in an undertone, winking at my best friend. “Scaring the kid, how dare you?”

“What?” Josh grinned innocently. “I’m just making entertainment. Besides, he’s not scared. Are you, buddy?”

“Am not.” Bear replied seriously, brushing his curls away from his face. I took his left hand in mine again.

“See?”

“Yeah, yeah, alright.” I stick my tongue out at Josh. “Let’s keep going, shall we? Plenty more snakes to go.”

We ambled leisurely through the House, coming across more reptiles asleep in their tanks. Some were surprisingly alert, yellow eyes trained on the visitors that filed past. Others, like the Burmese Python, lay sleeping, oblivious to the attention.

More than once, we stopped to watch some of the animals, at Bear’s request. He insisted on watching the zookeepers hand-feed yet another snake; a large anaconda, whose jaws were stretched wide open, ready to catch the fresh chicken dangling above it. Catching his eye, one of the keepers called out to us and asked if we wanted to take part.

It was a relatively harmless snake, a four year old female who wasn’t fully grown. I shook my head vigorously, my eyes on the sharp fangs protruding from the snake’s jaws. No way in hell was I going to let my four year old nephew, a baby, feed a fucking snake.

Bear sulked for ten minutes after we walked away from the Anaconda; at which point I transferred him to Josh’s arms. Josh laughed, gave my nephew’s cheek a gentle pinch and bounced him around, hoping to cheer him up. I shook my head, amused.

“Don’t be such a goody goody, Aunt Jen.” Josh teased, patting Bear’s shoulder.

“Oh, so you’d rather I let those guys take him into the tank, dangle a mouse into the anaconda’s mouth?”

“Well, an experience is an experience.”

“Can’t really enjoy it if you get your ass bitten, now can you?”

“Aw, maybe next time, buddy.” He squeezed Bear’s shoulders. “When you’re a bit older, okay?”

“Maybe not even then.” I whisper under my breath, so that only Josh could hear. He only laughed in agreement, clearly enjoying himself.

We moved on to the next exhibit; a set of enclosures that housed the zoo’s mammals. The disgruntled expression on my nephew’s face cleared the very second he spotted an elephant with large, shining white tusks. I rolled my eyes. Kids these days, with their ever changing moods.

Stopping by the elephant enclosure, we watched fascinated, as the elephant, a male from the looks of it, shuffled slowly to the other side, swinging its rubbery grey trunk with reckless abandon. He paused by an enormous water trough to drink.

The elephant slurped noisily and for some reason, decided to spray the water all over himself. Unfortunately, because we stood so close to the fence, we were caught in the explosion of water droplets. Within seconds, we were soaked.

“Oh god. Oh dear god.” I spluttered, wringing out my damp locks. “Come on, man, I just showered!” I narrow my eyes at the elephant, who seemed to find it supremely hilarious. He shook his giant rubbery head, swinging his trunk wildly; as if he was laughing at me. “This isn’t funny!”

“Actually, it is.” Said a voice from my left.

I turned, catching Josh’s eye. He was drenched from head to toe, as well, but unlike me, was grinning. He shook his wet hair vigorously, sending water droplets shooting in every direction. The sight of him standing there made me laugh loudly, finally seeing the humour in the situation.

I took Bear from him, setting the toddler on his feet. Luckily, his Thomas the Tank Engine backpack escaped the worst of the water explosion. I dug through the contents, thankful to find that everything inside was dry. He stood still, giggling as he pointed at the elephant, while I meticulously dried him.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Josh peeling the sweater off himself. He was leaner than I remembered; his torso more defined from all those workouts he did to stay fit for the films. His grey t-shirt had soaked all the way through, revealing a set of muscles beneath.

Damn, he looked good. Really good.

Shaking my head, I focused on drying my nephew, who was still engrossed in the elephant enclosure. What the hell was I doing? Checking him out like that. It’s not exactly appropriate. We were best friends, nothing more.

“Okay, well, I don’t think we should be getting changed in public.” Josh said, interrupting my thoughts. “Let’s take a break, maybe find a toilet. Jen, you should probably use the baby room so you can change Bear properly.”

“Right.” I hoist Bear up into my arms, barely paying attention to his protest. “Lead the way.”

We followed him as he navigated his way around the exhibits. On our way to find the bathrooms, we stopped by the zoo’s gift shop. Josh bought two over-sized souvenir shirts and a small one for my nephew. We separated once we found the toilets; with Josh heading for the men’s room.

I did as my best friend suggested, using the baby room to coax Bear into wearing the new shirt. It was a little coarse but otherwise dry, perfect enough so he wouldn’t catch a cold. When he was dry, I changed into my own over-sized shirt. By then, the two of us were both ready.

Josh met us outside, clutching his own backpack. He relieved me of the Thomas bag so I could hold my nephew’s hand. He, too, had worn the zoo shirt. I met his cheerful grin with a smile of my own.

“Nice shirt.” He teased, elbowing me.

“Well, thank you. I always knew you had good taste.” I wink.

“C'mon, Ant Jen.” Bear tugged at my hand impatiently. “Maw animals.”

“Sorry, little buddy. Let’s go.”

For the next several minutes, we walked through the exhibits; coming across zebras, lions, giraffes, bears and monkeys. Bear was delighted. At the giraffe enclosure, the keepers had started feeding the animals, passing them large pieces from a basket of fruits and vegetables.

They invited us to participate, to my nephew’s delight. Whether the keepers recognised Josh and I or not, they gave no sign. We were treated as ordinary visitors; not something to be ogled at. I held my nephew as the senior keeper, a man named Owen, handed him a large carrot.

“Why don’t you feed Patch for me?” He suggested cheerfully.

Bear nodded, his fingers curled tightly around the carrot. I shuffled closer to the gate, where a pair of giraffes were waiting. The larger one, a female, ambled forward, sniffing the carrot with interest. Bear instinctively recoiled, shrinking against my breast.

“It’s okay, buddy.” I say soothingly. “She’s not gonna hurt you. She’s just waiting to eat the carrot. Go on.”

“Here, watch me first.” Josh took the carrot from Bear’s hand, breaking it in half. He held up his own palm to the giraffe, who gazed at it questioningly for a second before lazily scooping up the carrot in its mouth. He laughed, clapping his hands together. Then he turned to the child in my arms with an encouraging grin. “See? No harm, no foul. Give it a go.”

Bear chewed his lip for a moment, before meeting Josh’s gaze with a look of determination. “Okay, Unca Josh.”

We approached the gate as the second giraffe, a young male, ambled forward. I kept my arms wrapped tightly round Bear’s middle as he leaned toward the giraffe, little fingers outstretched. Josh hovered protectively beside us, watching the scene unfold.

There was a moment of silence. The giraffe moved his head in our direction, opening his mouth and tentatively snatching the carrot from Bear’s hand. It seemed as though he was taking great care not to accidentally touch him or bite his fingers.

Surprisingly, the giraffe gently nudged Bear’s hand. My nephew stroked the giraffe’s head, bursting into delighted laughter as the creature’s warm brown eyes swivelled round to meet his. I was dimly aware of a clicking sound nearby. Someone was obviously taking time to document the tender moment between child and beast.

“Aw wow.” Josh lowered his iPhone to ruffle Bear’s golden curls. “You did it, buddy! You fed the giraffe!”

“Yea!” Bear said happily.

“Good job!” I planted a light kiss on his forehead.

A/N: Soooo I’m back! And this is a new little mini series that I’m posting for my friend Megan. It’s more for her, but if you guys like it too, lmk and that would be great! Hope you like it :)

I walked out of the black van and as soon as the heels of my designer shoes hit the New York pavement the stream of flashes start in front of me. My bodyguards push them away as much as they can and I keep my head down with my sunglasses protecting my eyes from the harsh white lights. I know my boyfriend has now gotten out of the van as well because I can hear the paparazzi shouting his name now instead of mine. I quickly sign and take a few pictures with fans, they thank me, and then I’m safely inside my apartment building. The place I call home ever since 2 years ago when I moved here with Dylan, The Kimberley. I look back to see Dylan still taking selfies with a few fans, he was always so nice to all of his friends. After his accident, he learned to sort out his real fans from the fake ones, and they learned that he isn’t going to talk to them if they are going to be invasive towards his life. We had just gotten back from the wrap party for the final season of Teen Wolf, and it was around 11 PM. He made his way inside the hotel and we walked into the elevator together with his arm around me I squeezed him close into a quick side hug and leaned up to kiss his cheek. He was quiet that night after the party, he was really upset the past few days, he realized that a big chapter of his life had just ended. Just as we were going up the elevator quietly, I got a text from Megan. I just remembered that she had a date tonight with a new guy that she had high hopes about. Her text said,

“OMG, so done with boys rn, all they do is want to do is hook up anymore! Like seriously? On the first date? Unbelievable!”

Guessing by her text, I assumed her date did not go well. I texted her back,

“Ugh, sorry Megan :(, thought you had a good feeling about this one?”

She responded,

“Idk anymore dude, can you come up to my room tn so we can eat ice cream?”

I was still in the elevator, I looked over at Dylan who looked really sad, I couldn’t leave him like this he was an emotional wreck, but I also couldn’t leave Megan alone after her awful date. I then got an idea,

“Look, I can’t leave Dyl tonight, he’s a mess, can you maybe come down to my room tonight so we can all watch a movie together? Room service on meeee :)”
“You know if you give me food, I’ll be there. See ya in 15”

I was happy Megan understood that Dylan was upset too. We got in our apartment and we both got changed into pajamas. I looked over at Dylan and saw that he put on “the sweatpants”, he got them they day we met. A couple years back I was doing a cover shoot for Teen Vogue, and I was requested for wardrobe since I was a celebrity personal stylist. I found out I was dressing Dylan O’Brien, I was completely shocked. I had always been a secret Teen Wolf fan, I freaked out which was unusual for me and struggled to find a rack of selection clothes for the shoot. I was so stressed out I bought a $700 pair of Givenchy sweatpants, don’t ask me how I found them. When he came in to meet me and see the clothing selection he thought it was the funniest thing in the world that I would buy such high-end sweatpants, I told him he didn’t understand because he obviously didn’t have a sense of fashion. We clicked from there and I secretly let him keep the sweatpants from the shoot, and here we are 3 years later. We settled on the couch and talked a bit before Megan came over,

“Megan’s date was shit tonight, she’s gonna come over in a few, ok? Nice sweatpants by the way…”

“Thanks” he laughed pulling me close, “Yeah that’s fine, I need just a night to be around you and Megan you guys always know how to cheer me up. I just can’t believe how these years have flown by I feel like it was yesterday Tyler and I were in that audition room still 19 years old”

“I know babe, it’s so sad to see it all end, but hey, you have so many new projects coming up!”

“It just won’t be the same, and I feel bad for leaving Tyler in LA right now because of his bad break up with Bella. She was such a bitch to him, he deserves so much better than her.”
“He really does…”

Just then Megan rang the doorbell, it made a lightbulb go off in my head. I got up to the door and let her in hugging her. We all sat in our lounge area and turned on The Proposal while we decided what we would order from room service. When all of our ice cream came, we were so happy, the hotel made homemade ice cream every day in the kitchen. Megan and Dylan fell asleep I texted Tyler,

“I think I have the perfect new girlfriend for you”

Hope you guys liked it!

What the heck were the dark implications of tfa ive watch the show three times and it only feels like something trying to be edgy

That’s kinda funny to me, because in my eyes, it’s the opposite. It’s really silly and cartoony, but the things that happen are kinda messed up in an also cartoony way, as if the writers either tried to see what they can get away with or they didn’t realize how messed up it is. I’ll try to explain myself, just please keep in mind that it’s 3 AM and I am very exhausted, I hope my memories right now are correct, I apologize if I got some facts wrong. Alright, this is how I interpreted TFA:

There’s stuff like Wasp’s prison time that makes me wonder what the hell happened to him (the difference between Wasp when he’s arrested and when he broke out is huge). I mean, yes, he was in prison, but the Autobots are supposed to be the heroes and you’d think they’d not have jails where people are turned into an obviously traumatized mess.

Then there’s Cybertron, which is a weirdly dark place, where Ultra Magnus, who seems like a sweet and wise person, orders scientists to get “expendable” people to do their experiments on, experiments they don’t know will work and, if they malfunction, what they could do to the subjects. And they choose twins who were in an accident and almost died to do this. Now yes, as others have pointed out, you could argue that their lives were saved by this, but as others have also pointed out, Magnus didn’t seem to care about whether or not they lived or died. He just wanted expendable people to do experiments on without their consent. And that is quite disturbing to me.

There’s more obvious ones like the drastic increase in violence in the third season, but what really got me where all the hints at where Cybertron was heading. You have (Spoilers for TFA’s final season) Ultra Magnus severely injured (and, as far as I know, he would’ve died in season 4) and Sentinel Prime taking over as Magnus. The thing with Sentinel is, he had so many chances over the course of the show to better himself and stop being a massive asshole, but he got worse and worse. At the point where he meets Blackarachnia again, he stops just being a douchebag, he’s an intolerant, cruel person, who rejects somebody he once cared about because she’s part organic, despite having experienced first hand that organic does not equal bad, and tells her in her face that it would’ve been better if she had died. And no, I am convinced he didn’t say this because she turned bad, because he didn’t even attempt at talking sense into her, he immediately attacked her.
He also made a rather unsettling speech to a cheering crowd that they should trust him and that he’ll hunt down every single Decepticon. He wants to be hailed as a hunter and his audience does so, they cheer him on, and we get Percy and Alpha Trion’s worried glances because they too know that this is not a good sign at all.
And this person is going to take over Cybertron. Somebody who seems to have learned nothing, who is a liar, who has a screaming mob behind him (and mob thinking is often not reasonable thinking), who is treating his former friends horribly because one of them is part organic and “an abomination” and the other took the blame for something he knows he had no control over. This person, who can’t control his anger, who acts irrationally, who has only come this far because of his team and because of Cons he made deals with (add that to the list of sins), is supposed to take care of an entire planet. This is dystopian as hell, because now, there isn’t even a big bad villain to go against him anymore, as far as we know, the Decepticon forces have been captured or destroyed for a large part. Cybertron is at the mercy of a man who is not a good person, who has had his chances to prove he can be rational, but he didn’t. He’s unfit for such a big role, and he’s going to mess it all up. He’s the type of person who would abuse his power (hell, he already does to a lesser extent!).

And that, Lovely Anon, is why TFA is kind of a dark show.

raven reyes, huge lesbian: a character study

i went for a drive and a frappuccino today and ended up coming up with possibly my fave raven headcanon ever. please consider: raven reyes is a huge lesbian and it’s been staring us in the face for three seasons. i have the receipts.

since this is tumblr i don’t think i have to prove the fact that raven likes girls thats just… established ok we all saw the raven/gina interactions, raven’s super into the ladies. but. for the longest time i headcanoned her as bi, because that’s just what you do when you want a “straight” character to be queer cause its not hard to picture and usually hard to disprove. but im here to ask people to take into consideration the following and join me on the Raven Is A Huge Lesbian train:

she’s been with three guys in the show.

Finn

  • this is kind of a no-brainer. finn was family for raven, he was someone she was dependent upon, “he saved my life” is how raven put it. without his rations she probably would have starved. that’s not to say raven was using him, but it’s so easy for girls to fall into relationships they may not have pursued independently because of the situation they’re in. finn was her world. their relationship wasn’t built on mutual attraction but mutual trust and support.
  • so finn comes to earth, cheats on raven, and she’s heartbroken. but, the only scenes where raven appears truly heartbroken are the ones where the person she relies on for emotional support (finn) relies on someone else (clarke) or provides emotional support for someone else (still clarke)
  • she breaks up with him because that mutual support is broken. “i love you” “not the way i want to be loved” it was never about the cheating, never about sex with clarke, never about the romance. what they had was broken and she didn’t want what was left of it.
  • fast forward a bit and its the ep where finn dies. he apologizes to her for falling for clarke and she says “hey maybe it’s for the best” (hey raven, it’s every queer girl on earth calling, they want you to step back and ask yourself what you mean by that) even finn is shocked and says “hey dont let me off the hook so easy” yeah, raven. wyd girl.
  • complete sidenote - let’s flashback to 17 yr old finn and 18 yr old raven. what was it finn said? oh ya. “you’re running fluid dynamic specs while we’re having sex” “multi-tasking” raven says, because that’s how it is for everyone.
  • sex isn’t that exciting.
  • right?
  • anyways, back to raven forgiving finn for cheating like it’s nothing: “truth is, things change”, she says, and oh honey you’re just so…. gay…. honey….
  • so the scene ends on raven saying “we’ll always be family” and finn nodding. “always”. raven smiles. that’s all she ever wanted from him.

Bellamy

  • possibly even more of a no-brainer than finn. you’ll see, raven actually gets gayer as this post progresses, its a blast.
  • so backtrack to the initial raven/finn break up and raven’s just lost. she throws herself into making bullets, avoids finn, and tries to run away. the guy who’s been her emotional crutch through a childhood of neglect and probably abuse is off hunting with clarke and she has nobody to turn to. so what happens?
  • bellamy happens. he’s there for her in the beginning of 1.11, tells her she’s brilliant, tells her he needs her, tells her the entire camp needs her, he gives her the support she’s so desperately craving in the wake of finn.
  • like i cant stress enough how completely alone raven must be feeling at that point. she’s not one of the delinquents, abby’s presumed to be dead from the exodus crash, her boyfriend (read: only family) is falling hard for a girl who mostly avoids her, and that leaves raven alone.
  • so when bellamy tells her to move on and she realizes she has to, who does she sleep with? the one person who gave her emotional support and the one person she can count on not rejecting her.
  • “i’ve never been with anyone but finn” she says, a little curious, maybe hoping it’ll be different. better? not missing something?
  • so they have sex. can you guys see where i’m going with this because this is probably my fave receipt so far.
  • no it didnt. it didnt help and now she feels like crap, so she gets dressed and she leaves the second they’re done.

Wick

  • this is getting…. too easy…
  • WICK
  • so i searched and i couldnt find the receipt for this but im 105% certain that either kim or jason confirmed at one point that wick and raven knew each other on the ark and wick was one of the friends who helped raise her (i remember cause the fact that he was a teenager when she was a kid is one of the things that weirded me out about them hooking up so i know this is a thing for sure)
  • so bellamy goes undercover in mount weather, finn dies, and clarke loses all her remaining chill and starts dumping on raven a little bit because everything’s scary and she really needs those tone generators done like 10 days ago if not sooner
  • aaaand who does raven latch on to? wick, someone who’s familiar and supportive and there for her. they joke and they laugh and they’re good friends, she likes his company. she’s definitely aware that he likes her in a more than platonic way.
  • so bellamy shuts down the acid fog, they’re going to war, and wick was there for her for all of it: recovering from the loss of finn, the loss of her leg, everyone relying on her, etc. so she goes to him and initiates sex just like she did with bellamy
  • hey maybe this time it’ll be different right?? i mean fuck, the law of averages has gotta work in her favor at some point
  • n o p e
  • when they’re finished, wick moves to kiss her shoulder. raven jumps up immediately and distances herself, visibly uncomfortable. he reaches for her and she immediately starts to cover up, looking lost and depressed the entire time. you can see her holding back tears because she’s not about to cry in front of him but the emotions are there for sure.
  • wick backs things up for us and explains what just happened off screen: “you kind of, uh, shut down on me there. what’s up?” “what? nothing” she says, acting as if she doesn’t know what he means. she knows what he means.

so to wrap things up:

raven loved finn dearly but first and foremost, he was family to her. when she saw he loved someone else, she let him go. when she needed support, bellamy and wick were there for her and she gave them in return what she thought they wanted and what she thought she needed. both times she left unhappy, confused, and on the verge of tears. between season 2 and 3, raven supposedly pushed wick away and never pursued that relationship. abby said it was because of her insecurities regarding for disability but abby, here’s a thought: raven reyes is a huge lesbian

American Idol saved the best for last: La’Porsha Renae

I’ve never watched a full season of American Idol because for awhile it was just yell-singing trying to out-loud each other.  Then it was a lot of white boys who could walk and chew gum at the same time so let’s heap praise on them.  Then it was just a circus of who can squeeze out the most fake emotion on stage.  So I don’t watch the seasons, but I’m familiar with all of the winners.

La’Porsha Renae is going to be the most naturally gifted winner of American Idol ever and there is absolutely no way she’s going to lose this final season of American Idol.  Every time she opens her mouth I cry or get goosebumps.  Y’all need to see some of these performances.  She’s equal parts Leela James, Jazmine Sullivan, Brandy, and Fantasia.  Her runs just come out of nowhere and she already has some of the best ears in the business.

I’m in California dreaming about who we used to be - Harry Styles One-Shot

Or the one where Harry is still selfish and missed Y/N a little too late

Also, part two of this one shot but can be ready on its own

It was award season and that meant going to LA and spending the next two weeks being dragged from one event to another. Harry was anything but excited, in fact, excited wasn’t even a word that crossed his mind when he thought about this particular season of the year.

He should’ve been used to it, after five years as a member of One Direction, Harry should’ve felt more comfortable in red carpet than he actually did. It’s not like anyone knew he was uncomfortable, because they didn’t. Harry just gave off an air that said ‘I belong here’.

There was a time when Harry loved being in LA. The spotlight was always a little brighter when he was there, the weather was always nice and everyone seemed to treat him better than they normally would. However, Harry no longer felt the need to go to LA every break he had. He no longer felt like he belonged there, as he had believed a few years ago. Now, LA was just a sad memory of good times, unnecessary fights and you.

Despise his feelings towards the City Of Angels, Harry couldn’t escape from it. It was work and he had people that he loved too much to let down counting on him. Therefore, Harry put his feelings apart, jumped on a plane and flew, only praying for the next two week of his life to go as smoothly as he hoped they would.

Meg, please forgive me for this somewhat ridiculous question but i have to ask because i'm new to the fandom and i'd like to hear opinions from people, who analyze the show. So do you believe that Bellamy is in love with Clarke? Yeah, nothing is 100% canon yet, but do you believe that he's head over heels for her?

Hey anon!

Don’t apologize, this is totally not ridiculous. Also, welcome to the pit!

Yes, I am camp Bellamy Blake is 100% in love with Clarke Griffin and totally knows it.

I’m tagging @storyskein because we recently had a lengthy convo about what we think the Bellamy Feelings Timeline looks like and the following includes some of the points from that convo mixed in with a shitton of aimless rambling.

Putting in a Read More because this is long as hell and fingers crossed the rm actually works this time. This is also partially for the anon that asked me actual ages ago to breakdown what I thought the process of Bellamy falling Clarke looked like. I’m sorry this took me so long to answer anon, I hope this is worth the wait.
