Agelast <3 !

You bring out the twisted in me, woman. I blame you entirely. Not really. I love you. Don’t hate me. WARNINGS: RATED E, for sexual content, brief violence, character death, arranged marriages and associated dubious consent, …and general fuckery. Keep an open mind here, I was trying for a variety of cultures. Also bisexual!Peeta…so anyway, there’s a scene here with him with someone who is not Katniss. You’ve been warned. And I’ll probably continue this because who am I kidding? I cannot resist starting random WIPs at the worst time possible. This is wholly unbeta’d, so you can blame me for this pile of trash. Also go easy on me. It’s my first foray into sci-fi.

Agelast - A person who never laughs.

Dark Matter

Mud sprays up around them in deceiving tufts of gentle soil and flashes of blue light. His feet carry him in a vaguely serpentine pattern. A delicate balance of speed and survival. He raises his weapon and fires towards the enemy, watching at least one mud splattered white uniform drops before the others behind him open fire as well. He grips the shoulder of his Sergeant to haul him back to his feet.

“Thought you’d never get here,” Darius says and catches the blast rifle Peeta tosses to him as they continue the charge.

“You doubted me?” Peeta asks with a grin as they dodge more blasts.

“There!” Darius shouts and points towards an outcropping of rock that should provide shelter and Peeta nods in agreement. They need a place to regroup and plan a flanking maneuver around Snow’s troops. The small group of soldiers forms a ring around Peeta and Darius, firing outward as they race for the rock. A few yell as they go down and a loud humming fills the air. Peeta turns to drag them to safety when Darius screams and shoves Peeta towards the rock.

Brilliant blue light blinds him for a moment, throws him back against the rock as it consumes his Sergeant and friend. His body slides to the ground, the armor having taken most of the force, but he’s left winded and in shock as he stares at the space where Darius should be and instead finds a pile of bloodied, desiccated flesh. Another blast of the blue light follows a brief hum and them a choking noise as though the weapon malfunctioned. The force of it hits the rock and splits it in two. Before Peeta can react, half of it crashes down towards him.

Everlark roommates au. Also want to say your writing is so wonderful, thank you for all you do!

ngl, when I read your ask the first time, I thought it was for someone else :) thank you so so much for your kind words !

Here is the little drabble you kindly asked for. Hope you’ll like it.

“Oh my god, Peeta!” I shout to my friend and roommate. Fate has assigned us together our first year of college - I guess nobody cared to check wheter Peeta was a he or a she - and it’s been a big win for us.

In him I found the best friend I could dream of - kind and gentle, strong and confident. He’s the calm to my tempest, the quiet to my shoutouts, the light to my darkness, the yang to my ying.

I can hear him coming - he walks with that heavy stomp he’ll never be able to lose. But it’s so him.

“What’s happening?” he asks, as he comes into my room.

“He did it again!”

“Should I sit?”he asks. He’s always afraid our so called President will push the nuclear button any time. Or start WW3. Or worst.

“Look what he tweeted!!”

“Covfefe? What does that even mean?”

“Hell if I know. Maybe it’s the code for the Alien invasion?”

“Na, it’s #tinyhands. More probably he’s summoning Sauron. Or something.”

It’s after he left to cook, that I realize once more such a great roommate, such a great friend I have in Peeta.

And once more, I wish we were more.

Unbeta-ed, all mistakes are mine :) Hope you will like it !

Happy Mother’s Day…posted two chapters 5 & 6 …thank you to @norbertsmom for beating and for my friend @chele20035 who inspired me to write this for her.

So now the characters are in place. Effie hates Snow, and snow loves Madge Lady Cartwright. Madge is fascinated with Gale. Gale has joined forces with Boggs thinking Katniss is dead. He has also run into Madge, the one Peeta is fawning over but has cut her down with words. Peeta has an unusual attraction to Sebastian who is really Katniss. Katniss thinks Gale is dead and has been put in the spotlight she has been thrust into the intimate circle of Peeta. Is she out of her depth. Tonight is her first test of …her manhood.

katniss everdeen

ooooh!! a non-hp one. i like.

general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life
hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff
best quality: how protective she is of those she loves and how fiercely she will fight for them
worst quality: she has issues seeing the big picture at times
ship them with: PEETA
brotp them with: FINNICK and haymitch
misc. thoughts: katniss is a slytherin primary/gryffindor secondary according to @sortinghatchats. i agree with the sorting, and i ultimately believe she would sorted into slytherin. sure, katniss is very brave like a gryffindor, but what defines katniss more is her loyalty to those she loves most - she is also very determined and resourceful like canon traits. i personally think it fits her more and what she truly focuses on. katniss doesn’t want to have to be brave like she is all the time.

send me a character!

6 Favourite Things About Katniss Everdeen

I was tagged by @papofglencoe for this, and I’m very much on board with the idea of a Katniss Saturday and an overall Everlark weekend.

1. She’s an archer. I know that’s kind of an odd reason to like a character, but I’ve always loved the bow and arrow (took archery classes myself once) and my first movie star crush was Orlando Bloom as Legolas, so I’ve always had a soft spot for archers. She uses it to feed her family and protect the people she loves and it’s such a wonderfully practical weapon to know how to use. The way she associates it with her father and with providing for her family, I dunno, it’s nice to have a female character associate with a weapon or a tool in a positive manner.

2. Her weird/dark/awkward/witty sense of humour. Peeta’s funny, but I underestimated the number of times Katniss made me chuckle with her blunt thoughts. She speaks her mind sometimes without a filter and her words aren’t always the most charming, but they are certainly entertaining to read.

3. She’s resourceful. I respect the hell out of that. For someone who lives near the forests and the mountains, I wouldn’t have a clue on how to survive or manage without 50 different things on hand. She knows all the tricks to stay alive in the wild and provide for herself (and others) and she does it with enough struggle for her to not be perfect, but with enough skill for you to really admire her.

4. She has a deep, unflinching sense of love. She doesn’t limit family to blood first off, and the love she has for them is almost unconditional; she’ll do anything to keep them safe. She can bring herself to love even someone who mocks her, butts heads with her, and is a self-loathing, self-destructive wreck like Haymitch. The way she’ll do anything for Prim, deny her nothing. Speaking as both an older and younger sibling, it is nice to see positive examples in popular media of siblings not being dysfunctional, but just taking care of each other. Even the other Victors, people who would be her enemies in the Quarter Quell, Katniss sees some of them as people she would be naturally protective over, that they are people she would just want to help. For someone who tries to keep people away, who claims to not have any faith in the world or humanity, she loves and takes care of people in a sense that is really under-appreciated by many fans.

5. She’s flawed. Being a blank slate is bad enough for a character, but to be perfect is even worse. Perfection is boring. No one is perfect and I don’t want to read the thoughts of someone who is. Katniss has flaws just like the rest of us. She can be judgemental, mean, quick to withdraw, cynical. She isn’t a great public speaker most of the time, she can be standoffish, and awkward. And that’s fine. I love those things about her. A character feels so much richer when you know they can be just like you in a lot of ways, that they have negative qualities. Katniss has much more good in her than bad, but I love that so many of her thoughts are so unapologetic and flawed in so many ways. It divides people on her, it makes her  target for hatred amongst this fandom to a degree that shocks me (and angers me), but I love it. I think if you can love a character at their worst, then you know that this character is a very well written one.

6. Her bond with Peeta. It isn’t easy between them in the least and for at least half a book one of them views the other as an enemy, but they always find their way back to each other. And I think Katniss deserves as much credit for that as Peeta does. She fights for him in a different sort of way, but she tries to do her best by him. She intends to sacrifice herself at the Quell to save him. She risks her life by kissing him in the Capitol streets, doing so to try and bring him back from the brink, to keep the hope that he can be him again. Half of her revenge on Snow is almost based around what he did to Peeta. She can be so much more selfless than people realize when it comes to him (as he can be for her). In addition to that, I love that Katniss appreciates so many of the gentler qualities Peeta has. So many people in the mainstream media or casual fans mock Peeta for his interests and skills. I love that Katniss doesn’t look down on him for those qualities, but instead sees beauty and hope in them. She admires that side of Peeta as much as he admires the Hunter side of her.

No one to tag really. @shinrinnoyousei, I wouldn’t mind hearing your thoughts.

“We hold another Hunger Games using Capitol children,” says Coin.

“Are you joking?” asks Peeta.

“No. I should also tell you that if we do hold the Games, it will be known it was done with your approval, although the individual breakdown of your votes will be kept secret for your own security,” Coin tells us.

“Was this Plutarch’s idea?” asks Haymitch.

“It was mine,” says Coin. “It seemed to balance the need for vengeance with the least loss of life. You may cast your votes.”

No!” bursts out Peeta. “I vote no, of course! We can’t have another Hunger Games!”

“Why not?” Johanna retorts. “It seems very fair to me. Snow even has a granddaughter. I vote yes.”

So do I,” says Enobaria, almost indifferently. “Let them have a taste of their own medicine.”

“This is why we rebelled! Remember?” Peeta looks at the rest of us. “Annie?”

“I vote no with Peeta,” she says. “So would Finnick if he were here.”

“But he isn’t, because Snow’s mutts killed him,” Johanna reminds her.

No,” says Beetee. “It would set a bad precedent. We have to stop viewing one another as enemies. At this point, unity is essential for our survival. No.”

“We’re down to Katniss and Haymitch,” says Coin.

(…) I weigh my options carefully, think everything through. Keeping my eyes on the rose, I say, “I vote yes…for Prim.”

“Haymitch, it’s up to you,” says Coin.

A furious Peeta hammers Haymitch with the atrocity he could become party to, but I can feel Haymitch watching me. This is the moment, then. When we find out exactly just how alike we are, and how much he truly understands me.

I’m with the Mockingjay,” he says.

Hey Caryn! I heart you. What are your favorite Everlark winter, snowy headcanons?

Hey Ara! I heart you back, girl.

They like to wile away the long winter evenings curled up in each other’s arms by the fire. Peeta is a hot box, so no matter which side Katniss has toasting by the fire, her other side is never cold. Sometimes they lie there all night, a mess of tangled limbs, until the fire burns down to embers. She buries her face in the crook of his neck, nuzzling into his pulse point, while he lightly traces and caresses her scars by the firelight, and even though neither one of them says it out loud, what they’re usually thinking about is how improbably lucky they are to be there.

Sometimes they just watch the flames dance in the fireplace for hours, never once saying a word because they’ve reached the point where words only fall short. One of Peeta’s favorite things to do is to wait for Katniss to doze off and then sketch the way she looks illuminated by the fire. The light from the flames always changes, and he tries to capture the way it looks in any one second- he tries to show her how beautiful she really is to him, always changing but always constant- and although he feels like he never comes close to succeeding, he’s committed to keep trying. He’ll get it, eventually. And then she’ll know.

They make love by the fire, too, under a patchwork quilt, even though there’s no one around to see them, because it feels like they’re cocooned in their own private world that way. It’s hot under the blanket, and they’re sweaty and flushed, but Katniss loves the way Peeta’s skin blushes pink from the heat, and Peeta loves the way Katniss’ dark hair sticks to the sides of her face as they gasp and sigh and sway and moan.

The Victory Train

Summary: “Peeta, this is your Victory Tour,” Effie, his manager, said. “You just won a Tony. You’re young and you’re talented, and you don’t need Glimmer as your leading lady.”

“Then, who is going to play Christine?” Peeta asked in exasperation. “We’re heading out in three days.”

“There’s my sister,” Prim, the young blonde who played Meg Giry, timidly offered. “She can sing.”

Everlark Drabble Challenge - Beneath Your Beautiful

Alright! I am waaaay beyond the 48 hr limit. First off, I was tagged by the amazing titania522 with the prompt “Beneath Your Beautiful.” If you haven’t heard the song, I highly recommend it!

I’d like to tag flip-fantasia, wistfulweaverwoman, and famousfremus (if any of you would like to sit this one out, no pressure!). The prompt is Retail Everlark and you’ve got 48 hours. :)

This quickly morphed into a full-fledged tale. I am incapable of being brief, so this is the first part (unbetaed), which is still entirely too long to be a drabble, but what the heck. I’ll be putting the whole thing up on and A03 soon.

This is a 74th Games AU involving tribute!Katniss and Prep team!Peeta. Thanks for such a great prompt titania522, and to the anon who started it all!

Each time the female members of her prep team tittered over length of her leg hair or looked scandalized by the dirt under her nails, the male member would change the subject, asking them about some unfathomable Capitol product or event that had them all aflutter. This did not go unnoticed by Katniss.

Nor did his blue eyes, always on her, and curious.

He touched her gently when he rubbed ointment on her skin, and was the only one who looked at her like a person. There were light orange streaks running through the ashy blond whorls of his hair, and he’d accentuated the dusting of freckles on his pale face with a soft sheen of gold powder. Like his name – Peeta, to their Octavia and Venia, he was Capitol, but different.

“And did you love me?” he asks.

Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay

“I keep my eyes on the tiled floor. ‘Everyone says I did. Everyone says that’s why Snow had you tortured. To break me.’

'That’s not an answer,’ he tells me.”

This scene has always frustrated me, which is, I suppose, precisely the point. Katniss isn’t good with words, and normally Peeta would know this, accept it, and intuit what it is she means to say.

But here. Here she tells him, and he can’t fill in the blanks. Even though he has insulted and rejected her, even though she’s bristling about being hounded by ever-watchful eyes, she tells him. It’s not an equivocation. It reveals so much more than it conceals.

She tells him that her love was so obvious that everyone could see it.

She tells him that her love was so profound that the one thing that could break her was to hurt him.

And that’s so much more powerful than a simple “yes.”

Reasons to be thankful for Hijacked Peeta

Now before you tell me I am delusional and weird, let me assure you I love Peeta Mellark. He is my favorite character in the whole trilogy, because encompasses the moral. He is not typically macho/mysterious sort-of character. He is sensible, artistic, selfless, compassionate, brave, hopeful and self-righteous. What I love about Suzanne Collins is that she gives Peeta interests that are stereo typically female: cooking and painting. This to some may be seen as weak and dull. I think it just adds to my list of reasons of what makes him a good character.

Just look at him, handsome lad like him, ought to be loved. And Josh Hutcherson plays him, so yeah.

Adoration time over, I will proceed to enlist my reasons why:

1. Character development (explosive)

Peeta Mellark is the sort of character that is too perfect to be true. It’s so difficult to find a flaw in this selfless and noble boy. His only weakness seems to be his undying love for Katniss. Also with the hijacking Peeta can explore his ultimate fear:

Peeta faces his biggest fear, he is completely changed. The reason why hijacked Peeta is so heartbreaking is because he is no longer here. It’s so much painful than if Suzanne would have chosen to kill him. To read about this boy, who was ever-so-perfect and good, be a completely different character. It is safe to say our hearts were broken.

One the moments when you realize this is when he says to Finnick in Mockingjay:

“'You be nice to her, Finnick. Or I might try and take her away from you.‘ It could be a joke, if the tone wasn’t so cold. Everything it conveys is wrong. The open distrust of Finnick, the implication that Peeta has his eye on Annie, that Annie could desert Finnick, that I do not even exist.“(Mockingjay, pg. 242)

This is no gallant Peeta. This is a jerk trying to make a joke about snatching a girl.

So the character development on the department of this character was high and low hitting/crashing on the ground violently.

2. Peeta can regret being all 'googly eyes, puppy love’ for Katniss

Like I said earlier one the flaws Peeta has is his unconditional love for Katniss. Don’t get me wrong I love Katniss, but Peeta please have some self-respect. In Catching Fire it appeared that Peeta gives Katniss more space. But at times he lets her take advantage of him. Sleeping in the train with him is the biggest example. Because after that Katniss goes home and decides she wants to be with Gale. And Peeta still continues to be the sweetheart that he is.

In Mockingjay Peeta is resentful with Katniss. But mostly, I would say, he is angry at himself. And in a way is good that he is, sometimes is good to know you are wanted.

Also that is why he says (and excuse me while my heart leaves my body):

"I must have loved you a lot.” (Mockingjay, pg. 231)

And this:

“Again the implications. That more happened on the train than did. That what did happen- those nights I only kept my sanity because his arms were around me- no longer matters. Everything a lie, everything a way of misusing him.” (Mockingjay, pg. 243)

To be so unconditional with a person you have to love them a lot. You have to love them, the way Peeta loved Katniss. Is the past tense in the previous sentence which hurt a lot. Which leaves me to my third reason.

3. It gives Katniss’s & Peeta’s relationship: balance, beauty and strength

When Peeta is hijacked, Katniss can’t find a way to mourn him. I have always considered that the kiss she had Gale (in District Two) was more out of spite, than of passion or romance. In fact I never believed their relationship to be romantic. Katniss and Gale loved each other yes, but Katniss loved Gale more as a friend than anything.

Something about Peeta is that Katniss was not deserving of him, and she knew it. Haymitch tells her:

“You could live a hundred lifetimes and not deserve him, you know.” (Catching Fire, pg. 178)

She knows it and we know it as well. When he is gone, that somehow makes Katniss deserve him, because she appreciates him more. She knows that what she had with Peeta could never be (unless he recovers). So at the end of Mockingjay their relationship is more balanced.

Peeta’s and Katniss’s relationship is now on an equal point. Are they angry at each other? Yes. But do they need each other? Also, yes.

It is no longer a relationship in which Peeta held it together for both of them. Katniss actually helps Peeta remember the person he was, the boy she is in love with, the boy she needs. They help each other and that is the beauty of it too.

They give each other strength by helping each other recover and for them to find a way they can mend themselves. So they can be happy, together.

Talk about relationship goals.

4. Katniss realized how badly matched she was with Gale

With Katniss realizing how much she missed the old Peeta, she also realized how it could never would have worked with Gale. Most people say this “Gale was good for who she was, Peeta is good for who she is.” And I agree, wholeheartedly. Though, I have my doubts.

If Katniss would have never entered the Games, hence she never would have talked to Peeta, I still think she wouldn’t have ended up with Gale. I feel that eventually, at some point Gale would have grown tired of waiting for her to accept the idea of having kids and he would have been with somebody else.

In Mockingjay she knew that differences she had with Gale were insurmountable. Gale is too vindictive. What she needed was someone to settle her fire, not to add fuel to it.  You can see how much Peeta soothes her down. Particularly in this part:

“'What do you think Peeta?’ I finally ask him.

'I think… you still have no idea. The effect you can have.’ He slides his cuffs up the support and pushes himself to a sitting position. 'None of the people we lost were idiots. They knew what they were doing. They followed you because they believed you really could kill Snow.’

I don’t know why his voice reaches me when no one else’s can.”(Mockingjay, pg. 325)

See? Soothing. Peeta always finds a way to do just that, even when hijacked.

The thing about Peeta’s recovery it’s that it is not Disney’s magical-kiss-and-all-will-be-better. It’s slow, it takes time. Just like their love. You can see glimpses: when he bakes Annie’s cake, remembering about the bread, telling the crew they should leave him behind so he doesn’t kill anyone else, telling Katniss how he doesn’t want to go away, how much he’s fighting to stay with her, telling Katniss she has no idea the effect she has, being gallant with Tigris, hugging Katniss before they go to Snow’s mansion, when he doesn’t let her go when she killed Coin, bringing flowers for Prim and finally staying with Katniss. Slow, but meaningful.

All of this contributes to the fact that Katniss knew that Peeta was what she needed.

5. Snow would have killed him

Okay, this is just a theory. You can disagree with me or not.

I have been thinking for a while, how it would have been if Peeta would have never been hijacked. I don’t mean that he wasn’t capture by the Capitol, just hijacked. So I came up with a theory.

I feel that Snow would have killed him, publicly so Katniss would have seen. Peeta was disposable for Snow (but really not just Peeta, everybody). Snow’s purpose of having Peeta around was to unhinge Katniss and when he sees that Peeta can no longer do what he wants him to do, Snow probably would have killed him.

Peeta is his way of luring Katniss into the Capitol. So picture this: Katniss goes to the Capitol with her crew, sneaks into Snow’s mansion and finds Peeta there. Snow tells her that the only way he will live is if the rebels surrender. OF COURSE that never would have happened. Both sides don’t value human life enough. So Peeta is dead and Katniss is heartbroken, in a way she can’t kill Coin or Snow.

Or what if Peeta would have been with all those kids outside the mansion, and died alongside Prim.

It doesn’t matter which way you turn it, the only reason why Peeta’s rescue was so easy it’s because he’s been hijacked. Snow would have never let Peeta go, if he wasn’t sure it could unhinge Katniss.

This are my reasons why we should be thankful for hijacked Peeta. Though heartbreaking, the hijacking serves its purposes. Don’t get me wrong I don’t love hijacked Peeta, but I feel the reasons behind it are plausible enough that makes me understand the why of it.

Okay, so I was reading Catching Fire last night, and in the chapter when Katniss models the wedding dresses right before the Quell announcement, she tells us about a nightmare she has after trying on the dresses, where she’s running through the woods wearing the wedding dress with the pearls, but she’s having a hard time making her escape because thorns keep catching onto her and slowing her down. (I’d include the exact quote, but the Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader is informing me I’ve reached my limit for devices I can download the book on. What are you trying to tell me, Amazon? That I have a Hunger Games addiction? Pffft.)

AT ANY RATE, this particular dream sequence really stood out to me this time, most notably because a) this is the very same dress Katniss wears during the interview, that turns into the Mockingjay dress, and b) the line about the thorns struck me as being a symbol for Gale Howthorne.

So, like I said above, the dress is the same dress Katniss is forced to wear during the scene when Caesar interviews her, and her dress burns away to reveal the Mockingjay dress below. Katniss tells us that the dress is covered in pearls. And what is it that later comes to symbolize the love that’s developed between Katniss and Peeta? The “beauty that rose out of pain?” The love that survived despite what the Capitol attempted to throw at it, in order to make it stop? That’s right. The pearl.

The silk wedding dress itself symbolizes the act they have had to put on for the Capitol, because President Snow is forcing them to do so, attempting to control them and make them do something against their will, even if they don’t want to do it themselves. The dress is the not real. But the pearls on the dress are what’s real, because despite the complexity of the act, Katniss and Peeta do, indeed have true romantic feelings for each other. Even if Katniss can’t and won’t acknowledge it for a long, long time.

So the dream is interesting, because at this point Katniss is overwhelmed by all of it: the horror of what President Snow is pushing her into, possible romantic feelings for Peeta, and Gale’s pressure not to hold those feelings for Peeta, but instead have feelings for him. All of this happening, and the only thing the old Katniss, the “coward” Katniss wanted was to never marry at all, and to be left alone. She’s running through the woods in her dream trying to escape this trap, and dealing with Gale and his feelings toward her just slows her down more, thus the part about the thorns.

Fast forward again to the interview, and Katniss has developed quite a bit since that dream. By the time the interview rolls around, Katniss is actually beginning to open herself up and give in to her feelings for Peeta. She isn’t fighting it anymore, which automatically brings it out of Snow’s control. He can’t “punish” her with this relationship if she wants it herself, and by giving in to the fact that she does want Peeta, she’s beginning to form her own autonomy over her life. And that’s why it’s so pointed that the dress burns away during the scene, because only the pearls survive. The ‘not real’ part of the relationship has burned away, and the true love that exists between Katniss and Peeta remains. And all of this happens as she stages her own rebellion, along with the other Victors-turned-Tribute, on the stage. President Snow tried to crush their love, and everything it and they inspired in the nation, and this is the moment where he fails. Because despite his best efforts to use it against her, the balance falls completely into Katniss’s favor when she accepts her feelings for Peeta, and takes power over her own life. That is when she becomes truly uncontrollable.

The once peaceful Mellark house was interrupted by the sound of a rushed entrance at the front door and two sets of ascending footsteps quickly followed by simultaneous door slams.

Ramona looked through her closet, flipping through her many array of dresses, and trying to gauge what would be acceptable for a dinner at her new friend’s house. Beatrice seemed like she cared very little for fashion and more about what was comfortable. She wanted to look casual and cool, too.

She had nothing.

In the room across the hall, Peeta look through his own closet. He looked like a fucking anxious mess today in front of Katniss. He wouldn’t do that again. Looking through each piece of clothing, Peeta tried to figure out what would look put-together, but not like he was trying too hard.

He had nothing.

Opening his door, Peeta was surprised to find that Ramona was also at her doorway.

“I need help!” They both cried out simultaneously.
