‘Cause if we lost our minds and we took it way too far I know we’d be alright, I know we would be alright If you were by my side and we stumbled in the dark I know we’d be alright, I know would be alright
“What am I supposed to do with you?” you ask with a little laugh.
Shawn smiles a little and looks up at you. “I dunno…make me a better person?”
“You’re already doing that by yourself,” you fluff his hair and he slumps over on the couch, face pressed into the armrest.
“I’m doin’ it for you,” he slurs before passing out. You stare down at him and put a blanket over him from the back of the sofa. You clean up your drink cups and then come back to put a pillow under his head and he grabs your arm. “I mean it. Wanna be better so you don’t hate me.”
“I don’t hate you, Shawn…don’t think I ever really did.”
Waking up with Shawn in bed with you was both pleasant and very surprising considering you had left him to sleep on the sofa. You didn’t remember him crawling in with you. But sure enough here he is, arm around your middle, holding you tight against him. You roll over and look at him and he opens his eyes slowly, blinking a few times to focus.
“Good morning, I see you found your way to a bed,” you smile teasingly.
“Mmhmm,” he hums and tucks a piece of your hair back. “I woke up and didn’t know where you were. I found you all curled up in bed shivering so I got in.”
“I see,” you look down over him and he rolls onto his back and groans. “How’s those drinks treating you?”
Shawn pinches the bridge of his nose and lets out a loud groan. “My head is pounding and the sun is too bright.” He pulls your pillow out from under your head and covers his face. “Make it stop, babe.”
Author’s note: HERES THE LONG AWAITED CHAPTER 6! There wont be an update for a while as it was quite a long chapter. Shawn’s background is explained a lot here and I hope you guys like it :)
Recap: “Got it.” He rolls his eyes, allowing me to push his towards the door.
I pause, watching his features turn into a small smile as I reach to close the door, I meet his gaze one last time.
“I’ll show you Shawn. We’re a perfect match.”
My soulmate was good at many things. One of them was looking ruggedly
handsome in an all-black suit. The other was sneaking into my room when I least
There he was, 5 minutes to 10:00 am, just like I told him, head to toe
in the finest suit he owned.
“You clean up nicely.” I smile warmly at him and he glares at me,
scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
“I look like an arrogant ass.” He mumbles, taking a seat on the edge of
my bed as I grab some earrings off my dresser.
“Aren’t you always?” I tease, allowing him to complain.
“Very funny.” He scorns me, tugging at his collar again.
“I think you’re really going to enjoy what we’re doing today.” I grin at
him and he blanches, a thin sheen of sweat might even be visible on his
forehead if you look close enough. “Did you bring your car?”
He gives me a strange look. “Yeah I parked around the back.”
“Lets go then.” I grab my purse off my bed and open my patio door,
waiting for him to lead me to his car- a black chevrolet Camaro. It was one of
the oldest model’s I’d ever seen but looked surprisingly well kept.
“Bet you’re not used to roughing it out in an old piece of metal like
this?” Shawn humour’s, unlocking the car.
“Actually my Grandpa likes to collect old cars, he has around maybe 5 of
these but they’re all in different colours.” I try not to laugh too loud at the
shocked and mildly annoyed look upon Shawn’s face. I buckle in and Shawn turns
on the ignition, pulling onto the road.
“So where are we going?” He breaks the silence.
“Park out front the Dee Gardens and then we’re on foot from there.”
“You made me wear a suit to go to the park?” he asks, looking at me like
I had asked him to do the most ridiculous thing.
“Maybe.” I giggle, winding the window down to allow the cool spring
breeze into the car. The sun was beating down through the windows and I already
knew it was going to be a good day. Perfect for a wedding.
“Okay, there, park there.” The Dee Gardens were a short 5 minute drive
from our house and as soon as I saw a free parking space, we took it.
The gravel crunches under my heels as I get out, shutting the door and
walking over to the grass. Excitement bubbles in my stomach and I feel a
shoulder brush mine, turning to see Shawn standing right beside me.
“Lets go.” I grab his hand, entwining my fingers with his.
“Is this really necessary?” He holds our joined hands up as he falls
into step with me and I raise an eyebrow.
“4 weeks, remember?”
He sighs, the sound drawing my attention to the faint hum of voices. We
round the corner and ahead is a small clearing, surrounded by tall red
woods. There’s maybe 40 chairs either side, an aisle running through the
middle. At the end there’s a stand with a small archway made of flowers that
have been threaded through the wire. Fairy lights were strung around the trunk
of the trees, light green ribbon bows stuck on the back of nearly every chair.
It looked beautiful.
I eye the nervous groom standing under the arch, talking to his
groomsmen. He looked like he was going to be sick.
“We’re late.” I don’t give Shawn a chance to speak as I rush to our
seats, two spares at the back as we weren’t on time. We sit down and I notice
Shawn’s gaping expression, his eyes wide.
“You took me to a fucking wedding?” He hisses in my ear, and I elbow him
in the stomach to stop his complaining.
“Shut up, Becky is about to walk down the aisle.” I snap back, rising
with the rest of the family. I look down to see Shawn still sitting there and I
grab his collar, tugging him up so he’s standing next to me.
A flower girl begins her descent down the aisle and I try to ignore
seeing Shawn pinching the bridge of his nose out of the corner of my eye.
Bridesmaids wearing beautiful jade dresses come next, their hair up in
elaborate braided buns.
Then came the bride. Becky looked stunning, her white dress was studded
with tiny diamonds and when they caught the light, they shined. The silk hugged
her figure and fell away into a train.
“You sneaky little thing.” I hear Shawn whisper in my ear, we were lucky
to be at the back where no one could hear us and anyone who could was more
preoccupied with the bride.
“Excuse you?” I don’t tear my eyes away from my cousin, her dress was causing
me serious envy.
“You take me to a wedding, get me all loved up and then you’re going to
strike. You’ve probably arranged our wedding, haven’t you?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I smile innocently at him and
he huffs, falling silent as the ceremony begins.
I didn’t stop smiling.
As soon as the ceremony had
finished, Shawn dragged me away before anyone had noticed we were there. In silence, we trek
back to his car.
“You know we have to go to
the reception right?”
“You do. I don’t.” He laughs
at my disgruntled expression. The car comes into sight and we head towards it.
“But what if I get
approached?” I ask him, giving him my daintiest smile.
“Approached? By who, your Grandpa?”
Shawn snorts and unlocks the car.
“No.” I drag the sound out.
“By an eligible bachelor who seeks my hand in marriage.”
I feel shocked at the sound
of Shawn laughing, his head tilted back and eyes crinkled.
“Sorry princess but the
government would never let you get married while your soulmate is living and
breathing just across town from you.” The engine rumbles, and Shawn changes the
gear into reverse.
“Then why don’t you come
along just to make sure that it doesn’t happen.” I rest my hand on his forearm
softly. He looks over at me quickly before sighing.
“You’re going to black mail
me if I don’t say yes aren’t you?”
Three seconds of silence. He gives in.
“Where am I driving to?”
The reception was located in
a pretty fancy restaurant and had a similar decorative touch to the wedding.
There were already so many people here and I feel Shawn’s front press into my
back so he doesn’t loose me in the crowded room. Leading the way I take him to
our seats. My Mother looks up at the sound of chairs scraping against the wood
flooring. Her mouth falls open.
“Who’s this Sweetie?” She prod’s,
smiling at Shawn whose head whips to face me, disbelief clouding his eyes. We
“Mum this is Shawn, Shawn
this is… my Mother.” I watch as Shawn’s eyebrows raise, biting his lip to stop himself
from saying something offensive to me in front of my mother.
“Nice to meet you Mam.” Shawn
says formally, offering his hand for my Mother to shake.
“Likewise.” She shakes it, turning to face
“Shawn is my boyfriend.”
I quickly tell her, yet my Mum’s face forms an expression of curiosity.
“I thought you were only going
to date your soulmate Y/n.” Shawn audibly gulps. His arm snakes around my
waist, pulling me into his side.
“We both have many years on our timer’s. We like each other so we thought why not get to know each other.” He
tells my Mother, a frown etched onto his face. A relationship during the youthful years with someone who wasn’t your soulmate wasn’t illegal, although it was frowned upon by many people.
“Oh.” My Mother gasps while
my mouth opens and closes, no words forming.
“You just lied to my Mother.” I whisper in his
ear, Mum still staring at us.
“Would you rather me tell her we’re soulmates?” He rebuts, pulling
out my seat and letting me sit down.
“She could easily check my arm and see my timer has gone.” My eyes flick to my sleeve covered arm, right where my timer would have been if it was still ticking.
“Then you will just have to
cross that bridge when you come to it.” He frowns at me, resting a hand on my
knee under the table. “Now I believe we are at a wedding and you wanted us to act like
soulmates, care to dance?”
Somehow, from the time we
got here and when we sat down, music had begun to play, a soft beat filling the
“I can’t believe you told
her.” I mumble to him as he pulls me to the centre of the room where other
dancing couples were located.
“I’m just trying to be what
you expect me to be. You only have four weeks of this treatment so enjoy it
while it lasts.” Shawn snaps and my face flushes in anger.
“I don’t expect you to be an
ass Shawn, I don’t know what you want from this ‘trial’.” He rests a hand on my
waist and the other holds my left hand.
“Most soulmates act
irrationally, right? So that’s what I’m trying to do.” There’s a hint of
sarcasm and I ignore it.
“When I asked you to give me
a chance I didn’t mean change your entire personality.” I mutter, letting him
sway us to the beat.
“I don’t do relationships
Y/n, I’m sorry that I said the wrong thing to your Mum. Next time I just won’t say anything” He growls at me and I fall silent.
The music was classical; the instruments
filling the dining hall, giving the atmosphere an old fashion feel.
“If you weren’t a member of
the libertas would you still have treated me the same?” I ask him softly,
meeting his hazel eyes.
“Even if I wasn’t I still
have the same belief in soulmates Y/n.” He tells me, his eyes scanning my face.
“If soulmate’s didn’t exist
would you want me?” I hold my breath, the question out in the open air.
“If you weren’t my soulmate I
think I would have actually wanted to be with you- out of my own choice.” He
lets my arm falls and I can’t speak, can’t move. I’m lost in the depth of his
eyes. Even after everything he has said to me I want to pull him closer to me,
into my embrace.
“Why tell me that? Why not
just be with me because you like me?” He lets me rest a hand on his chest,
right over his heart and the steady thump has me feeling giddy.
“All my life I’ve told myself
that I’m not going to let the soulmate program dictate my life like it did for
my Mum.” He whispers softly and we’re dancing again, his left hand glued to my
right and his other hand on my waist. We’re chest to chest as we sway to the
soft beat from the band.
“What happened with your Mum, Shawn?” I ask boldly, knowing he would either answer me or retreat away from
He takes a deep
breath. “She was abused… by her soulmate, my Dad.” I let him talk, feeling
a weight settle in my stomach. No one ever deserves to be treated the way I can
only imagine Shawn’s Mum would have been treated.
“The one person the
Government told her that was supposed to treasure her and take care of her was
the one that haunted her nightmares and caused black and blue bruises to appear
on her skin.” Shawn looks angry now, his hand tightening its grip on my own
“What did she do?” My face is
so close to his that I can see the faint flecks of gold in his hazel eyes.
“She put in a request form to
the Government to leave her soulmate, so she could find someone else.” In society,
when a person’s match dies, we can request to form a relationship with another
“But because my Dad was still
alive they forced her to stay with him.” He snarls, his frustration rolling off
him. “She couldn’t find happiness with another person because they told her that she could only be
happy with him. They partnered my Mother with a monster.”
He twirls me, my dress
fanning out and I crash back into his chest ungracefully. Shawn doesn’t seem to
“I joined the libertas when my mother couldn’t take
the violence any more and committed suicide.” He’s calm again. A sadness
welling in his eyes. “I was only 13 and my Dad was the one who found her.
He didn’t care that he did that to her. He just packed up his things and left.”
“Shawn.” I try to comfort him
but I don’t think there was any measure of comfort I could offer considering
what he’d been through. “I vowed that night when both my parents left me
that I would never let my life be controlled by the Government the way my
Mother’s life had been. Its been 8 years since then and not once have I ever broken that vow. Not until I met you.” His eyes hold my gaze and I feel a heat creep up over my cheeks.
“And that’s why you don’t
want a soulmate.” I finish for him and he his hand moves further up my back so
his palm is splayed firmly between my shoulder blades.
“That’s not all.” He mutters
and I feel a chill creep up my spine. “I’m my father’s son, Y/n.”
“That doesn’t mean-”
“If I gave into this soulmate
thing, gave into you,” He pauses to let his words settle and I
feel my heart flutter at them. “Whose to say that I won’t turn into what
my father was. Hurt my own soulmate who I was meant to look out for and take
“You’re not your father
Shawn.” I tell him and he lets my hands go to cup his cheeks, stopping our
dancing. “You’re not going to hurt me.”
“I already have.” He bites
his lip and I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. “When we first met at your
school, Jeremy wanted me to take care of the witnesses, I said I would. You were
one of them and I hurt you.”
“I don’t remember..?” I trail
off, confused with where this was going. I remember having a lump on my head
but I thought it was because I had fallen during the attack.
“I smashed your head against
the wall and you blacked out.” He spits out and I feel a sick feeling rise in
“Shawn.” He can tell that I’m
beginning to feel the effects of fear, fear of him.
“I watched as your eyes rolled to the back of your head and you
passed out in my arms.” He’s put up his walls again. The shields that stop me
from getting close. “And when I picked you up I remember how light and
fragile you felt. I thought, how
could I have done this to my soulmate?” He laughs, the sound harsh
against my ears.
“You were just following what
Jeremy said-” I try to excuse his actions but Shawn isn’t having it.
“There is no excuse for what
I did. I hurt you before I even got to know you and I never want to put you in
a situation like that again. If we’re together, you’re only going to be in
“I can handle it.” I beg him,
pulling him to me as he tries to get out of my grip.
“There’s so many people who could hurt you for being with someone like me. It could be the libertas,
Jeremy, the Government or what about your soulmate, huh? I could just as easily
break you.” His words are sharp yet I don’t let them cut me.
“I trust you Shawn!” I say
desperately and he stops struggling against my hold, stops talking, just stares
at me. I wrap my arms back around him, over his shoulders and winding my fingers through
his hair. Gripping the back of his head I push him forward until his lips touch
I couldn’t breathe. His lips
pressed feverishly onto mine and within a second he’s kissing me back. He leans
closer to me and his hands are everywhere. On my hips, sliding up and over onto
my back, the heat of his fingertips alighting a fire on my skin that made me
doesn’t part from me, instead kisses me harder, sending tremors along every
nerve and evoking feelings I had tried to hide from him. I knew it now though.
My arrogant, wilful soulmate had stolen a part of my heart, and I didn’t know if I would
get it back.
“Kids, I’m not gonna say it again, let’s go”, Shawn yells while zipping up each lunch pale. He looked down at his watch and sighed, they had fifteen minutes and they need fifteen hours!
“Daddy! Jax keeps hiding my stuff”, your youngest daughter, Summer, yelled down to her father.
Shawn, whom the stress was really piling on today, rolled his eyes and let out a sigh of frustration, “How does Y/N do this”, he whispered before pinching the bridge of his nose, “Jax! Give your sister her stuff! And where’s Cecilia? And Hunter”, he referred to your high schoolers.
“Right here”, Cecilia said while tapping away on her phone.
Shawn’s eyes went wide as he looked up at the sight of your daughter in a mini skirt and a crop top.
She saw his expression and spoke, “Mom lets me wear this”, she shrugged.
“The hell she does! Go change, now! And while you’re at it, grab your siblings”, he shook his head and she made her way upstairs.
“We need to leave”, Shawn sighed again, “Your mom is gonna kill me.”
Hunter let out a laugh as Cecilia made her way downstairs with only Jax, “Got ‘em”, she said, still on her phone.
“Where’s Summer? Give this to me”, Shawn snatched her phone and put it on the counter, “Summer? Baby are you okay”, Shawn called to your youngest.
“No”, she cried.
Everyone’s eyes went wide as they looked up the stairs.
“What’s wrong”, he asked uneasily.
“Mr. Unicorn is in the toilet”, she sobbed as the other kids started laughing.
“Guys”, Shawn started while looking at his other three kids, “I’m coming! The rest of you, in the car now”, Shawn told them before running up the stairs.
“There we go baby, let’s just put it in the washing machine and dryer for a bit”, Shawn opened the washing machine, tossed it in, and got it started, “Now let’s go”, he washed his hands before grabbing his youngest daughter’s hand again and leading her down the stairs.
He opened the car door and buckled her in as Cecilia was face timing someone, “And her 'Mr. Unicorn’ got stuck in the toilet or something”, she rolled her eyes.
“Who are you on the phone with”, Shawn asked while sitting the driver’s seat, buckling up, and starting the car.
“Mo–”, she began.
“Shawn Peter Raul Mendes!” He winced as you yelled into the phone, “Put your Dad on, now!”
Cecilia passed the phone to Hunter, who passed it to Summer, who passed it Jax, who held it up for Shawn.
“Yes babe”, he asked while giving his attention to the road.
“If I get another call saying that the Mendes kids’ are late again, I will lose it”, you said while rubbing your temples.
“I think you already lost it”, Shawn mumbled as your kids busted into fits of laughter, a smile painted Shawn’s face at their reactions as he waited at a red light.
“Shawn”, you stated calmly into the phone, “I am coming back tonight. If I come home to messy rooms, kids, a dirty house, everyone, undid laundry”, you groaned at the thought, “Everyone is grounded! Including you Shawn!”
Shawn pinched the bridge of his nose as everyone soon followed, they got it from their dad.
“A-alright babe, love you”, he tried to keep a smile on his face as he hung up and the phone was handed back to Cecilia.
“Well”, Shawn pulled the car into a U-turn, “Looks like the Mendes kids aren’t going to be late again, they’re taking a 'sick day’”, he announced as fits of 'woo hoos’ and 'yays’ erupted through the car.

Paris is always every bit as romantic as they say it is.
Your breakfast was a nice continental at some tiny restaurant terrace in Trocadéro - you barely even caught a reaction when you asked the waiter to bring you mimosas at ten thirty in the morning. It was mostly Shawn feeding you pastries with marmalade and being endeared, laughing at you when you sat with Bonne Maman jam smeared across your cheek.
Paris feels, in the June sunshine, just like the Louis Armstrong songs and Godard films, and as you sit opposite Shawn on this empty train at noon, it feels like how everything should always feel.
The wind blows through the window elevating the curtains high to the ceiling. Goosebumps arise my skin as the wind blows harsh against the windows. The lace nightie does nothing to block out the harsh breeze knocking against my body. I hear footsteps down the hallway get louder and closer to my door.
“Shawn?” I call out as I place my hairbrush back down on the vanity. All I receive is silence alarming me slightly as the footsteps inch closer to my room. I turn around to close the windows and strip out of my nightie as the footsteps diminish in thin air. As I’m adjusting my black jeans around my hips a freezing cold hand wraps around my neck.
“Ahh” I hear laughing and turn around to see Shawn trying to hold in his laughter. I elbow him in the stomach causing him to double over.
“Y/N jeez it was joke” he groans out as he rubs his stomach. I slip on my shirt and cardigan before sitting on the bed. Shawn composes himself and sits down next to me. Shawn kisses my cheek before reaching my lips in a slow but passionate kiss.
“Are you ready for tonight?” Shawn asks as he gets up reaching for my hand slowly lifting me up to my feet. I stand hesitantly as he leads me to the front door.
“On second thought…. I’m not feeling so hot maybe I’m coming down with so-“ I’m lifted off the ground onto Shawn’s shoulder as he walks out into the dark and starry night. I smack his back repeatedly before he sits me down on the passenger side of his Jeep and straps me in like a toddler.
“Don’t move or you don’t get to go” he says kissing my lips once more. When he pulls back I have a small grin on my lips. “Don’t think about it Y/N” Shawn says as he runs to the driver side and quickly reversed out of my apartment drive way.
As Shawn’s song “There’s nothing holding me back” softly plays on the radio Shawn leans over to kiss my cheek. I intertwine our hands together as we near the Pumpkin Orchard. When the music dies down we hear screams and people laughing. I look outside and see a enormous line for the ticket booth to gain entrance to the haunted corn mazes.
Before I know it Shawn’s out of the car and is opening my door ready to take me out of the safety of the car. You can hear people scream and feet shuffling around in the hay. I grip Shawn’s hand tightly as we make our way to the end of the line. People around us laugh and talk as they wait to buy an admission ticket. Shawn’s hand leaves my grip alarming as I try to hold on tighter than before.
“I’m right here princess” Shawn whispers as he pulls me to his chest, so my back is touching his front. I slowly nod as we hear more screams from various people in the maze. As the line grows shorter Shawn secluded himself to go restroom.
“Watch out okay? Keep a lookout for people in costumes. Love you” he whispers as he walks away to the John’s farther down the road. A few girls I front of me scream and one falls to the floor in fear. I look everywhere but I front of me and try to keep my calm. Don’t let them know your afraid. I repeat myself over and agin as they near. The higher powers where listening to me as they skip over me and continue walking to scare others. A hand is on my shoulder and I turn around to find Shawn by side once again looking at the line getting shorter. My head is down watching my feet drawing line in the mud. I hear faint whispers of my name but don’t look up.
“Y/N.. Y/N” I finally look up and feel someone to my left and see a gorilla. I’m too shocked to scream or do anything as he stands in-front of my face.
“Hi” is all I say with a fake smile plastered on my face as Shawn is trying hard to hold in a chuckle. Another Gorilla comes to stand in front of me looking at breathing hard on my face. “Hi” I repeat before they turn away looking for their next victim.
“You did so well baby” Shawn whispers as he hands the lady $26 for our entrance ticket. We wait in line as the Lady starts forming groups. Another scream erupts from the maze on the opposite side a group of girls come out running with a Psycho clowns hot on their heels with a baseball bat. The flows retreats as they are fully outside of the maze evilly laughing.
“Next group!” She shouts and Shawn pulls me forward. “How many in your group?” She asks while reading off her clip board. Shawn turns around and starts counting, before removing himself out of line.
“Are we leaving?” I ask him with high hopes before we hear a group of guys coming closer.
“Brian, Matt, Andrew Geoff!” Shawn yells before running to them and giving them a high five or a hug. Brian comes over and lifts me off the ground hugging me. I laugh a little as he sets me down again.
“Haven’t seen you in so long! Shawn stopped bringing around” he says as he wraps an arm around my shoulders.
“Yeah! I wonder why? It’s not like you get all flirty and handsy with my girl” Shawn says a He comes near us. Brian looks at him and starts laughing.
“Babe he discovered us” Brian says runs behind me and is using me as a shield.
“Oh no! Thought we could keep this up for a while longer” I say as I squeeze Brian’s hand closer to me.
“Haha very funny guys” Shawn says as he keep walking towards us. We don’t move but hold each other tighter.
“I’m sorry Shawn….. we tried so hard to hide our feelings, but we started hooking up 3 months ago. I’m so sorry baby” I tell trying so hard no to laugh as Brian starts kissing my cheek and hugging me closer. Before we can go any further with this we are interrupted by the lady again.
“How many in the group?” She says.
“6” Brian says as we get in line again. Shawn comes up behind and squeezes me tight against him and whispers in my ear.
“You think that was funny, Princess?” Shawn tells me as the woman take our tickets in her hands.
“Well the look on your face was totally worth it Baby” I whisper back pecking his lips.
“Okay listen up. No flashlights to phone lights. No Swearing. No inappropriate remarks or comments. No touching of any kind towards the people in costumes and they know not to touch you either in anyway. And most of all do not for what ever reason lose your group members. Have fun!” The lady says as she moves away from the entrance to let us pass by.
My hand grabs the one nearest to my right. The hand squeezes mine back a deep laugh is heard from the person holding me hand.
“Don’t worry… I’ll protect you sweets” I look up and find myself holding hands with a guy wearing a bloody mask and a chainsaw at his side. The guy let’s go of my hand and starts turning on the chain saw. “Hate to do this but it’s always the pretty ones who are the first to go” he laughs out before he turns the chainsaw in my direction.
I trip as I walk backwards falling into the arms of someone. Chainsaw man keeps stepping closer towards me as I try and step back. I can hear Matt and Brian trying hard not to laugh, but eventually that’s all I hear as the guy quickens his pace.
“Y/N he won’t do anything” I think Shawn says before I can even tell who’s voice it the chainsaw guy grips my hand. I let out a small scream as his hand tightens in my wrist. He gets up close so we’re face to face.
“Y/N such a pretty name” he says and let’s go running back to the corn. My breathing slows down as Shawn grips my hand once again. He whispers a quick sorry as we walk behind Matt and Brian with Andrew and Geoff trailing behind us.
Two people come out and scare Matt and Brian who are in deep conversation. Matt leaps into Brian’s arms as the Zombie Doctors things retreat back into the corn. As we continue walking a faint sound of a chainsaw is heard in the distance and making me tighten my hold on Shawn’s hand. My name is chanted as we stumble across a bridge.
“Shawn…. why is my name being called” I tell him as we walk on the bridge. Soon a herd of children appear chanting my name in low whispers.
“Let’s play” they all say reaching their hands out. As we near them blood coats their faces. A little girls dress is shredded as fake blood drips down her arms. They form a circle and a start swaying side to side. The little girl turns towards me and reaches for my hand “Y/N let’s play! Let’s play! Let’s play!” Each time she repeats the words her voice changes. “Don’t you want to play? Let’s play and You can make mother happy” she points towards the corn and a woman comes out clothes bloody and a scream is heard almost making me pee my pants for the second time tonight.
The children gather around her chanting my name once again. The little girl appears and screams right next to me, shocking me with her reveal. “You made mother mad!” I go to grip Shawn’s hand and find nothing. Two hands clasp on my shoulders making me let out blood boiling scream. When I open my eyes I find no one there.
Steps are heard quickening their pace as I start to run looking for the nearest exit. I trip over a stick on the ground as I continue to run. Shouts are heard calling my name and my heart reset increases.
“Y/N stop running” Brian’s voice is heard.
“Princess!” I slow down as and a muscular body runs into me. I let out a small cry as the persons arms tighten around me.
“I’m done. I can’t do this anymore” I tell the person with tears cascading down my face. I may look like a big baby, but frankly I don’t care.
“Shhh… Baby it’s okay just a couple more minutes of this” Shawn whispers in my ear. I shake my head and remove myself from his grip. Shawn reaches out for me again, but I step back. His face shows hurt as I move away from him gripping Brian’s arm. I don’t look his way as we continue to walk down the path.
Brian and I are in front as a clown pops out causing me to fall backwards soaking my jeans in the muddy water on the path. Brian and Shawn stand in for the of me extending their hands. I grab Brian’s as he hoists me up and walks with me. I turn around and watch Shawn talk to Andrew with a saddened expression.
As I walk I feel a hand on my leg.
“Brian stop” Brian turns to look at me and raises his hands. I look down and faced with a woman who looks like the grudge. Her face pale against the moonlight illuminating the path. Mud on her clothes which are ripped near the bottom. Her body almost skeleton like as she moves to grasp my leg tighter. Lips are blue like the ocean and her eyes a terrifying red as she looks up at me. Whoever did her make up did a great job because she seems to have no teeth. All you see is rotten red in the inside of her mouth. Worst of the noise she makes cause me to scream uncontrollably as she pulls me down with her.
My heart stops as she crawls on top of me. She keeps making that horrifying noise as I continue to scream. Brian reaches me first and pulls me up to feet. The grudge retreats back into the corn while she keeps her eyes on me and I nearly let out another blood boiling scream as she says “Y/N next time no one will help you”
Brian turns me around and I bury my head on his chest. “Let’s go” he says as he walks me down the path my head still buried in his chest. I only nod and whisper ‘sorrys’ since I soaking his shirt with my tears. He whispers back ‘it’s an okay’ as we walk and hear someone hitting a bat on the ground.
“Dude don’t even think about at all” Brian yells before we make it out of the maze. Andrew, Geoff, and Matt are behind us running as the clown is right on their heels. Shawn’s no where to be found. A second later we hear a voice yelling at the entrance where the managers of the maze appear to be at.
“The rules specifically say ‘No touching of any kind towards the people in costumes and they know not to touch you either in anyway,’ but that rule clearly wasn’t followed. The person at the beginning of the maze grabbed my girlfriend’s wrist while tightening his hold on her. At the bridge the mother of those ‘dead’ children hand her hands on my girl’s shoulder’s. Not only that but while walking ‘the grudge’ appears and pulls her to the ground, climbs on top her. So next time you say no touching to your employees make sure you mean it.” Shawn says his nose is flared, face enraged as he talks to the guy and women selling tickets. The woman starts talking only intensifying Shawn’s angry.
“We are sorry about that. You know a little contact won’t hurt anybody” She says as a group of people turn their way to listen to the conversation.
“That’s were you are wrong Ma’am. A little contact can hurt somebody. Next time follow your own DAMN rules and tell your employees. If I have to I will shut this place down” Shawn says as he walks away and turns to the parking area. We hurry behind Shawn as he stomps his way towards his Jeep. I say goodbye to the boys as I walk to the Jeep heading into different directions.
“Shawn” I call after him which in turn I hear the drivers side door slam close. I walk up to the passengers side opening it and sliding it to find a towel and blanket waiting. I stretch the horizontally over the seat not to get mud and wrap the blanket around me. Shawn’s quiet staring straight ahead as people start to come out of the maze.
“Sh- I’m sorry I know how you don’t like places like this, yet I still brought you hear. What hurt the most was not being able to be there to comfort you like a good boyfriend should. Instead Brian did that and maybe you guys should start seeing each other. He can be there when I can’t and he can love you like a good boyfriend sho-“ I cut off his rant with a kiss. Shawn’s fingers pull me closer tangling themselves in my hair as he deepens the kiss. He reluctantly pulls away and looks into my eyes.
“Shawn I don’t want Brian. I want you, you are the one I love. Yes I went to Brian because he’s my shoulder to cry on when you go on tour. That’s all he is besides being a great friend as well. Yes, I went to him because I hated how you brought here even after I told I hated places like this. But I can’t stay mad at you because you live for places like this. It it still doesn’t justify my actions to tonight by going to Brian instead of my own boyfriend. It’s something I’m going to have to get used to. You are not and don’t ever doubt yourself Mendes a bad boyfriend. You everything but that and all the little things you think I don’t notice proves that. The small notes on the fridge each day when your home from touring around the world. Giving me simple reason why you love me brightens my day. Leaving a picture with a quote saved as my new lock screen which is motivational, loving and inspiring. And I personally don’t like it but you do it anyways, and watch me sleep and whisper I love over and over again. You are always will be a good boyfriend Shawn” I kiss his lips once more as he exhales a sigh.
“I love you, Y/N. Don’t know what I would do without you” Shawn tells me pulling me close and burying his face in my neck.
“Don’t know probably not making sold out tours” I say back a smile on my face as I feel Shawn let out a throaty chuckle. He pulls away reclaiming my lips in another kiss.
“You are probably right” he responds back and he reclines his seat back. Shawn places me on his lap and places my head on his chest.
“ all jokes aside though. I love you Shawn and always will” I tell him a as I elevate my harms with my crossed arms. Shawn looks down at me a wide grin on his face.
“And I love you Princess” Shawn says as he locks the doors of the Jeep and covers us with the blanket. We stay like that until a worker from the maze bangs on the window kicking us out of the Orchard parking lot. I remove myself from Shawn’s warm, comfortable embrace so we can leave. As we exit out of the empty parking lot I turn towards window looking at the lights turning off to the entrance of the maze. I look towards Shawn watching him as he softly sings The Weeknd’s song “Nothing Without You” from Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack. I lean over the console and kiss his cheek taking him by surprise which quickly turn into a smile. He looks away from the road a bit to place his lips on me causing me smile into the kiss. I may not have liked being dragged to the haunted corn maze, but at least I got to experience it with Shawn.
Summary: You and Shawn are mates. He’s an alpha werewolf. You’re a human. Also…you have a boyfriend already. What happens when a werewolf is rejected by his mate?
The glass all over the floor in the hall connecting the kitchen and the back bedrooms of the house is evidence that Shawn had hit the wall with his fist. It was unclear why he had been so angry when you said you had a boyfriend. Did Shawn expect you to just dump Liam, your boyfriend, and be his mate because Myra saw it in a vision or whatever?
You pick up the broken glass of three picture frames and place them in a plastic bag Myra handed you when you said you would take care of the mess for her. You look at the photos in the frames. Most of the people you don’t recognize, but there are a few you’ve seen at the cafe on Main St. getting coffee and reading the paper in the morning. They must be about the same age as Myra.
You pick up another photo and it’s of Shawn. He’s smiling, about 13 years old maybe, and he has a rabbit in his hands. You laugh to yourself softly because you know that around that age the werewolf boys were taken on their first hunt. There he was holding the rabbit, still very much alive, and looking so proud. You think he must have caught it and didn’t want to hurt it so he brought it back alive.
“What’re you looking at?” Shawn asks from the end of the hall. He’s got his arms cross, leaning on the doorframe in a stance that seems like it should be pretty casual but it actually very intimidating.
There were some weapons a woman could use. Red lipstick, nice lingerie, stilettos… and her mouth around a man’s cock.
And Violet knew how to work all of those.
She grabbed her boobs, looking into the mirror. Because, well, she could. Her lacy underwear looked a tad naughty but still innocent and she applied a little bit of gloss to her lips.
She grabbed John’s large t shirt from a drawer and put it on, making sure the globe of her ass was visible underneath and she adjusted her tiny thong a little, the lace giving her just the right friction.
“I wanted to be apart of his life, but you locked me out. For that I will never forgive you.”
“Shawn you seriously can’t blame me for this! How is this or anything else that has happened my fault?” She screamed, her head was pounding with all the shouting, but something told her it wasn’t going to end anytime soon.
“HE’S MY SON AND HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW ME. He should be calling me dada not some random man you fuck from time to time! My son has no idea who I am and I will always blame you for that. Fuck you y/n.” Shawn yelled back, he was furious. In his eyes The woman in front of him was a monster, how could she keep him out of his child’s life? What person would condemn someone to that eternal pain?
They were both sick of the arguing, it was all day everyday, a constant thing. It had no doubt affected their son, who didn’t even know who Shawn was, that hurt him more than anything. to see another man cuddle and cradle him. The way Shawn is supposed to.
“Look yn.. Shawn sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance. “I know you don’t care about me or my feelings, I know I’m just someone who knocked you up but I promise you I do love and care for our son, more than you and I could ever know. It hurts me to see your new boyfriend being a better father than me.” Shawn wasn’t angry anymore, all the anger had left his body and was replaced with sadness, loneliness.
“Please don’t keep him from me, you may hate me and you have every right to, but he’s my baby, our baby. There was a time when we loved eachother, I know that time is long gone but he is the product of that love. I need to see him at least once. Please.” If his heart wasn’t already broken he swore he heard it crack, here he was begging in front of the devil herself, begging for something he doesn’t deserve- Shawn would never deserve that little boy, he knew this. But he loved him, more than anything. He would go through hell and back for him.
“Shawn, you might be his father biologically but you’ve never been around, I left you for a reason. You aren’t Suitable to be a father to him, I’m sorry. James will be better off without knowing you.” It broke her inside to say these harsh things, but they had to be said.
“Please-y/n don’t say that. You know it isn’t true.” Shawn was straight up begging on his knees, there wasn’t much else the man could do. Part of him knew James deserved a better father, but that didn’t make it hurt less.
“At least.. let me say goodbye.” He pleaded, and finally y/n let him see his son. To say goodbye for that last time, he would never know that Shawn is his father, it’s better this way right?
Shawn made his way over to the small crib by the window, without even realising it he fell more and more in love with the child in front of him. In one swift motion the child was in his Arms, balling up the fabric of his shirt with small chubby hands. Gurgling happily. Shawn felt a tear slide down his cheek, he wanted to stay like this forever, to hold onto his son for dear life, but eventually he had to let go.
“I love you buddy- you don’t know who I am and you never will, but it’s Better that way Okay? I know you’re gonna grow up and be a good person, an honest person. You’ll never know just how much I love you. I know when you grow older your mother will tell you horrible things about me, they aren’t true. I didn’t Abandon you, this is the last thing I wanted.”
Ollivanders wand shop isn’t usually too busy this time of year. It’s well past the beginning of the school year when students were rushing to get their first wand, new wands, replacements, all before the new school year started. Mid November business was usually witches and wizards stopping in for repairs, buying a second wand, upgrading their current one or buying a replacement. Which was exactly why you were there. You needed a replacement.
About a week and a half ago you flopped down on a sofa in the Ravenclaw common room and heard that sickening snap. You absolutely did not want to get up and check your wand because you knew it was broken. But you had to. You stood up slowly, your stomach churning as you reach back and pull the handle out of your back pocket. Sure enough, you broke it off at the hilt.
At first you tried having your friend repair it, but it wouldn’t last. You could conjure one spell and the damn thing would pop apart. You tried tape, that worked for about a second, just long enough for the spell you were using to enchant a rose to backfire and set the whole thing a blaze. It was time, you were going to have to fork out the money to buy a replacement.
So here you are, standing in Ollivander’s wand shop with the clerk behind the counter watching you over his book as you browse the shelves of the birch wood wand section. You’re the only one in the store for an hour or so and you take your time inspecting each birch wood with a phoenix feather core that you find. None of them seem to feel right.
The shop door jingles and you automatically look to see a tall guy with messy curly brown hair step in and look around. He spots the clerk and goes to the counter, asking where the birch wood wands are. The clerk points to you and mumbles something like, “Over there.”
