Afrofuturist B-Boy, remix alchemist, legit funk phenomenon… Montreal’s Shash’U is truly one of a kind. He’s been burning down stages from Boiler Room to underground street dance competition “Juste Debout” with a mix of wild style remixes and audacious originals that sound at once alien and familiar, turning even the poppiest of radio hits into breakbeat battle weapons. This approach has won Shash’U a rabid following and set the stage for his debut original releases on Fool’s Gold. The moody Thru Da Night EP (available now for free download at foolsgoldrecs.com/shashu) melds cinematic synth lines with next level drum programming that drives EDM straight through Erotic City. Yet it’s only a teaser of the bass craziness Shash'U has in store on PWRFNK, his electro opus dropping 3/31. Both EPs will be collected on a limited-edition colored vinyl release featuring sleeve art by acclaimed comic book illustrator Ron Wimberly.
This is one that emerges from just being involved in the dance scene. Without my involvement in it, I possibly would’ve never discovered Shiash'u. Not a rookie at all, the producer has contributed to the underground and mainstream scene for over a decade opening for DJ Premier, House Shoes, Blu & Exile, Dibia$e, ?uestlove, Epmd and even mixing at the dance event, Juste Debout. The latest from the producer sees a remix of the 'Yeezus’ cut, 'New Slaves’, which features added drum patterns and extra instrumentation which gives the track a slightly new feel. Give this one a spin and let us know what you think. Enjoy!
Shash’U keeps flipping tracks whenever he damn well pleases. He just slapped some MTL funk onto JT’s “My Love” and it’s now up for free download! Listen below, download Draft Picks ’14 for some Shash’U originals, and check him at our 7 Year Anniversary Party in NYC on 11/6.
Shash'U remixes Chromeo’s “Lost On The Way Home” into a two-steppin’, power funk ballad with just the right amount of sexy. Stream it below, check out tour dates after the jump & download “Draft Picks ’14″!
