How to Make Quick and Easy Tattoo Sleeves

Got a cosplay idea but the character has lots of arm (or leg) tattoos? Don’t feel like painting on yourself with body paints or hunting down that horrendously expensive temporary tattoo paper? Here’s a quick tutorial for making tattoo sleeves using nylons and sharpie markers!

Upsides:

- Supplies are cheap! You may even have many or all the supplies you need right at home.

- Quick and not very messy! No paint is involved, and sharpie marker dries instantly.

- Easy! Great artistic skill not required.

- They move with your skin! People have legit thought these were real tattoos. From a distance, yes, but I had guys at cons with actual ink on their arms come over to compliment on my full (fake) sleeves.

- You get to eat pringles! More on that later.

Downsides:

- They are delicate. Nylons get holes in them super easy and forearms run into stuff, lean against things, and generally make it hard for the sleeves to survive. But if you only need them for a weekend, that’s ok.

- I haven’t experimented too much, but unfortunately this technique probably doesn’t work for wearers with darker skin tones. Sharpie ink is transparent, so any color it rests on just multiplies and the tattoo won’t show up very well. You’ll want to go the fabric paint or body paint route to get the best bold, bright tats.

- Can’t do white sections, because sharpie ink is transparent and doesn’t come in white. I leave them blank and they read OK, but the white areas will always be pink, tan, brown, etc. unless you dab in a little fabric paint, which will not be covered in this tutorial.

- Sharpie is supposed to be permanent marker, but on skin…it’s not. The ink will most likely wear off onto adjacent clothes. Not that big of a deal for me, as I tend to wear my tats with white shirts that can be bleached, but other shirts may not survive as well.

OK, let’s go! Here are your supplies:

You’ll need a pair of nylons, scissors, tape, a set of sharpies, your designs printed out on 8.5 x 11 paper, some bracelets, and a can of Pringles. You can use any design you want, of course, but Here is the link to these fine Newt Kaiju tattoo designs.

If your nylons have an undies part, cut the legs off and wear the undies on your head for the rest of the tutorial, if desired. Put the legs on your arm like so, and cut the toes off so you can slip your hand through. You can cut some of the top of the sleeve off as well, but don’t cut too much because you can’t put it back on if your sleeves are too short.

Here are my creepy sleeves. Now for the pringles.

Tape your design template to the Pringles can. It doesn’t reach all the way around but eh. The Pringles can gives you a nice stable surface to draw on that is roughly the shape and size of an arm. It’s a little short, so just roll up the rest of the nylon above the workspace and adjust both template and nylon down when you get to working on that part of the sleeve.

Color with the markers! I recommend doing the colored areas first and then doing the black outlines on top of it, to avoid the black ink contaminating the ink pads of the lighter markers. Remember how that always happens to the yellow ones? Eww. Nylons are thin and slide around a bit, so it’s best to use short strokes and dotting to get the ink on.

Take the template off the Pringles tube, flip the paper to the blank side and put it back on again. The paper collects the extra ink, so it’s hard to see any missed spots. Now you can see any bits you may have missed. Fill them in for completion. Also, the paper doesn’t manage to wrap all the way around the Pringles can, so now is the time to free-hand a bit of the design where the template doesn’t reach. For Newt tattoos, that’s the back of the arm.

When you’re all done coloring, put them on!

There’s a rough end to the tattoo right at the wrist, of course. Disguise where the sleeve ends and your skin begins with some pretty bracelets:

There we are, much better!

Now…you’re done! Have some Pringles!

Hello friend! Although I've been practicing in digital art for almost 3 years, I'm never completely satisfied by the result of my works. I usually never like the coloring. And from what I've seen you have the most unique and beautiful coloring style. So, I wanted to ask you, how did you find it? How did you expirement and settled in this style? Thank you for your time!

!!!! Thank you so much! ;v;

We’ll start with ygo !!  because everything else before that is Dark Past and absolutely terrifying Never Again

early 2015, I used to try doing semirealistic art because artists like jiyu-kaze, artgerm, and sakimichan
the last piece took probably 2 weeks???? it was painful lmao

I used to do the thing where you painted everything in grayscale first and then used a bunch of layer modes to layer colors on top, inspired by this, and it carried over to my tg art. it would take maybe long time to finish anything because I didn’t really know how to use it correctly.

Then my style started off being inspired by sui-zakki  (the author of tg), especially these pieces xx, x

I switched to using base colors after a while and tried to paint the way ishida did. I really liked the way that his art wasn’t exactly smooth?? or that you could still see the edges of each color next to each other… the colors looked really sharp and abstract. You could say this is the start of the style I have right now <:
Along with base colors, I used a lot of lumi & shade layers to add highlights and shadows. My backgrounds were usually a lot softer and sort of random at the time (I think you can see my style improvement best through the way I drew/colored my backgrounds ‘v’ )

Around 2016ish, the colors I used were lighter because I used less lumi & shade and used more on overlay and multiply layers (this is what I do now) or by coloring with only changes in opacity (this was mostly influenced by ammeja). There’s the prominent geometric edges or whatever in my colors because I started using a more square-ish brush for everything and I really liked how it looked when the colors weren’t seamlessly blended together. (the victor in the center was my first yoi fan art, he looks so different now asjdfjgjgjgjf :’> )

I color in a more blocky/geometric style, and instead of painting my pieces and smoothing them out like the ones above, I just stuck with sketches/lineart (this old tg piece is the one that got me to stick to lineart).
My coloring was mainly influenced by barachan, lanxin, and seventypercentethanol, and their pieces like xx, x
yahoberries (I love her art so much you don’t understand) influenced my blue/white outlines as well as the stray blob of colors that I sometimes don’t erase around my art
I really like crystal/gem-looking colors, and having geometric shapes as highlights or shades looked pretty cool too, so that’s how my style happened <3

The Ningen is a strange humanoid creature that is often seen in Antarctic waters by Japanese government operated whale research ships. The creature is commonly reported as being 20 to 30 meters long and completely white; typically they are a human-shape with arms and legs that are easily seen which caused them to get their name. Its skin is usually described as smooth and sometimes blubbery. Ningens are mostly sighted at night. Many people try to dismiss the Ningen as a deformed whale or a large ray. Some even say it could be an alien being as many UFOs are found in Antarctica. The people that have witnessed them, however, claim that these beings are definitely alive considering they were first thought to be submarines before getting closer to them.

Mind the Ferns
Tan skin rippled across taut muscles, delicately framing the sinewed shape of lean, strong arms that glistened with beads of sweat mixed with dirt.

“D’you get a new landscaper, Nick?” you asked your friend, continuing to watch as the man knelt over a flowerbed while yanking out weeds. He tossed it aside into a bucket for clippings, and as if he felt your gaze on him, he turned around and spotted you standing at the window. Catching the way you straightened, affirming that you had been staring at him, he chuckled with a smirk, wiping his damp brow with the back of his hand and turned back to his task.

“Hmm?” Nick asked, coming out of the fridge with two beers and handing one of them to you. He caught sight of your shy expression and the man working hard out in his garden, nodding as he understood your question. “No, that’s Harry. He owns the company, but I guess they’re understaffed since Harry’s covering for Marcus while he’s on holiday. We hang out sometimes–he’s pretty chill. Watch romcoms together. He’ll be hangin’ around after he’s finished.”

You were only half listening as your attention fell back to the man—Harry, as Nick had said—watching his back curve perfectly as he struggled with a stubborn weed, the hem of his florescent yellow t-shirt riding up to expose more tanned skin and more sweat.

“Alright, then,” Nick continued, with an annoyed yet amused smile as he took a sip of his beer. “Let’s head outside so you can enjoy the view.”

“Sure,” you agreed without thinking about his comment. Head in the clouds, you followed him toward the sliding glass door that led out to the patio, stepping halfway through before realizing what he said. “Hey!”

“What?” he laughed. “Should I have added, more than you already are?” he teased. You had to laugh because of course he was right, and honestly you didn’t mind removing the layer of glass between you and this gardener from the heavens.

Dating Jason Todd:
  • First things first, Jason is a cuddle monster.
  • Every time you walk by the couch he’ll grab you around the waist and drag you down.
  • Jason loves pet names. “Babe” “Baby” “Sweetheart” “Doll” “Princess” “Sugar”, any damn nickname he can think of.
  • Sometimes when he gets drunk he’ll catcall and whistle at you. Honestly, it’s flattering that even while drunk your boyfriend still thinks you’re hot enough to hit on.
  • But God help anyone who tries to hit on you when you’re out, it never ends well for them.
  • Jason is super protective. Even the criminals know not to mess with you anymore because Red Hood will come after them. He’ll start fights at the drop of a hat if he thinks it’s to protect you.
  • Whenever you get cold he’ll drop his leather jacket on top of you. It’s super comforting, because it smells just like him, and it’s super warm.
  • He especially loves it when you wear nothing but his leather jacket and some lacy underwear, it really gets him going in the morning.
  • Jason loves sex, will try anything once, and loves the thrill of almost getting caught. He loves to get rough after a boring night of patrol, to get out all of his excess energy, and he loves gentle morning sex when the night was rough.
  • He also loves to just hold you and watch you sleep, you’ve told him that it’s creepy, but don’t really mind.
  • You make Jason be nice to his brothers. Make him actually sit down and talk to them, it turns out that Jason gets along great with Tim and Damian, and eventually Dick.
  • The two younger boys start coming around more often, and family movie nights become a thing.
  • You also help him stop killing, make him think of a plan before just throwing himself into dangerous situations. He has someone he has to make it home to now.
  • Jason is a hell of a cook, he loves it and is constantly having you try his new dishes.
  • He loves to mess with your cooking, adding spices when you aren’t looking or stealing little tastes.
  • He loves to hold you from behind. To just have his arms wrapped around your waist and have his front pressed to your back with his face buried in your neck.
  • His kisses are never brief. Even when you try and just sneak a quick kiss he’ll grab you and kiss you until you’re dizzy and breathless.
  • Whenever Jason wakes up from a nightmare he needs you to be close.
  • If you happen to be out of the bed he’ll stumble out of the room, gun clutched tightly in his hand and eyes frantic until he sees you. He’ll jerk forward and practically collapse into your arms.
  • Most of the times he’ll leave bruises with how hard he’s holding you, but you don’t mind. Even when he feels guilty at the hand shaped mark on your arm, you’re just glad that he trusts you enough to seek you out when he’s half-mad with fear and fuzzy from sleep.
  • Jason loves to read, he loves it when you sit with him, either reading or sleeping against his chest while he reads over your shoulder.
  • He likes to go to coffee shops with you, holding your hand while he sips at his pumpkin spice lattes (Because they’re awesome, Y/N … Don’t laugh at me, I like them)

i. Written on an unused napkin,
Tucked away in the glove compartment of your car,
Invisible but permanent.

ii. Inside of the notebooks he and i used in high school,
Scribbled into the margins of pages we filled,
Smeared with black ink.

iii. Imprinted into our pillows,
Molded into the shape of our arms
Wrapping them in an effort to feel less lonely.

iv. Sewn into the sweatshirt you gave me
When we were sixteen and held each other on your couch,
Unseen unless felt.

v. Embellished in the skin of my neck
Where you left a dark circle in an act
Of possession, pride, and passion.

vi. Dripping from my back
As I rinse the leftover red dye from my hair
After he left me for the last time.

vii. Hidden among
The difference between “him” and “you”
In this poem.

viii. Strewn among our clothes
That were discarded in a whirl of sudden lust
And forgotten as the night drew darker.

ix. Underneath the bed
Where he took everything from me
But you gave it back.

x. In the breaths that leave my mouth,
Reminding me that I’m still alive
No matter who is here.

You fall asleep to them singing..

Their reactions to you falling asleep while they were singing.

SEOKJIN - Honestly, if you were dating this boy you would constantly be asking him to sing for you. With that angelic voice, who wouldn’t? Falling asleep to him singing isn’t a new occurrence, in fact, it’s often what you needed to go to sleep. When he was on tour the two of you would Skype or call each other just for him to sing you to sleep.

YOONGI - This boy would go from 0% casual, humming to the music to 100% soft real quick. He’d run his fingers through your hair and would pull a blanket up over you if you looked cold and would not move until you woke up, even if his arm or leg would fall asleep.

HOSEOK - This ball of sunshine would be more than happy to sing you to sleep. He’d probably be singing to something softer, probably something more along the lines of a ballad. He would shift and pull you more towards his chest so you could feel his heartbeat and his chest move as he sang, eventually falling asleep with you.

NAMJOON - While he would insist he wasn’t the best singer, he still tended to hum soft tunes which caused you to sleep. After falling asleep he would probably carry you as gently as he could to your bed and tuck you in. But knowing him your foot would probably hit the door frame and he’d have to sit with you and lull you back to sleep.

JIMIN - Honestly he would be a little shy when you first fell asleep. One minute he was singing softly to a song, trying to figure out the right key to sing it in and he went to ask for your opinion before noticing you were fast asleep. Slicker than Namjoon, he’d probably get you to bed and tuck you in before crawling next to you and falling asleep, too.

TAEHYUNG - Being the most extra boy in BTS (per opinion), he would probably serenade you with full intentions of lulling you to sleep. He’d lay next to you and trace shapes into your arm as he sang softly.

JUNGKOOK - He probably wouldn’t even realize it happened until later, tbh. He’d be doing something mundane like play Overwatch, and in between matches he would softly start singing ‘Butterfly’ or ‘House of Cards’ under his breath. Not used to his video-games-all-night schedule, you fell asleep to his voice. As he got the kill cam and he excitedly jumped to turn to you, asking if you had saw it, he quickly quieted down and quickly got you a blanket and pillow, gently resting your head on his lap.
