When Venus meets the Zodiacs very own Princess sign, Libra, the person is charming, beautiful and graceful. If you can’t impress this Venus sign, you’re probably doing something wrong.
Grown-ups love figures. When you tell them that you have made a new friend, they never ask you any questions about essential matters. They never say to you, “What does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies?” Instead, they demand: “How old is he? How many brothers has he? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father make?” Only from these figures do they think they have learned anything about him.
If you were to say to the grown-ups: “I saw a beautiful house made of rosy brick, with geraniums in the windows and doves on the roof,” they would not be able to get an idea of that house at all. You have have to say to them: “I saw a house that cost $20,000.” Then they would exclaim: “Oh, what a pretty house that is
The king scoffed softly, though there were so many conversations at the table it was hard to tell what he had disagreed with. Seated next to the princess, Shadow leaned away unconsciously, not quite touching vio but giving the same feeling as a frightened cling. this was a bad idea, this was a bad idea, this was a bad idea….
“personally, i don’t understand it at all.” the king’s voice was that of a family member who was about to say something incredibly bigoted and expect everyone adult to agree with him, and indeed he was and he did. “Making a shadow sentient doesn’t change it’s nature. They’re no different than the most shallow of friends; there for your brightest moments and disappearing at your darkest!”
the table went quiet, save for the gentle tremble of shadow link’s chair.
and then, the clink of zelda’s silverware gently setting on the table.
“Father,” she began, “Have you ever payed attention to how a shadow works?” her voice was civil, without a hint of harshness. It seemed like an honest question, though her company knew well enough it was rhetorical.
The king humored her. “What do you mean, dear daughter?”
Zelda straightened her back. “What you just said, it’s quite backwards to the reality. A shadow is at its smallest form in a well-lit place; sometimes you may barely even tell that they’re present. they’re weak and frail, and awfully small.”
“But as he light dims, they begin to grow. Stronger, Larger. More reliable.”
Shadow’s trembling had come to a stop, and now he sat truly silent, staring at the princess as she spoke. It was as though everything else was disappearing; he had no attention to spare for the king’s strange look, or for vio’s hand gently wrapping around his. Everything, at this moment, was her. “They can become larger than anything i’ve ever seen, when it’s become dim enough,” she continued. “And paying attention to them, seeing where they fall, tells you what direction the light is coming from. Thanks to our shadows, we can make the choice whether to head back into the light, or whether to plunge further into the darkness.”
vio swallowed nothing.
the king was scowling now. “All well and good, but they’re still nowhere to be found in the pitch black.” his gaze glanced over the the black-clad link, who’s eyes had begun to tear up. “so if you’re trying to say they make good friends…”
“if you think they disappear, you’re not paying attention.” Zelda’s voice had become just a smidge harsh now, angered with his insistent. “at your very dimmest, they are at their largest. When you enter the pitch black, they haven’t simply gone away…. they’ve merged with the shadows of everything else. you say they are nowhere to be found? you’re a fool. your shadow has enveloped your at that point.” her expression softened now, and she turned to face her friend with a gentle smile as she spoke her next words; “they’re the only friend who’ll always be there in those moments.”
shadow’s breathing was labored, yet he dare not speak now. He could only smile, tears rolling down his cheeks. her powers of light had always frightened him, given him the certainty that she could only hate the darkness. but as she spoke here, he’d clearly been wrong. she hadn’t befriended him despite what he was; she had no hatred for it. something about that was so much better to know. suddenly, things felt… safe. The king, however, was beginning to hold back a shout. “You cannot seriously be suggesting, my darling, that you hold the darkness in good thoughts.”
“Light and Dark are neutral powers,” she sated simply, turning back to her father. “Either can be used for evil, or for good. So if you view the light as always pure and the darkness as always inherently dangerous, you have been blinded by it’s brightness, and i pity you.”
“He kidnapped you!” He finally roared, finally snapping shadow out of his peace.
“He protected me and helped save me!” Zelda snapped back.
they both fell silent, as quiet as their guests had been. Green sighed gently, glanced at his others, glanced at his father, and sipped from his drink. It was going to take a very, very long time, he thought, to have full peace in hyrule again.
You love getting to the heart of things. When it comes to people you also want to get into the deeper topics rather than wasting time on the shallow topics. Your friends value you for your honesty and depth. You can get obsessed with some pretty darn stuff but that’s what your friends love about you. You are really good at getting them interested in what you like too.
A little sneak of what I’m working on for Bethyl AU week //
Adrenaline pumped through Daryl’s veins as he and Shane worked on resuscitating their patient. He hated getting these calls. It was a teenage kid who apparently been dared to jump off a concrete block and slammed his body into shallow waters. All his friends had abandoned him except one who had enough sense to dial 911.
“His BP keeps dropping, what’s the ETA for arrival?” Daryl shouted. The kid needed an OR if he had any shot for surviving these injuries.
“Calm your shit Dixon. Should be there in two minutes.” Shane growled back at him.
Daryl almost rolled his eyes at Shane’s attitude as they pushed a second round of pain killers.
The familiar screech of the brakes had indicated they were at the hospital.
They started dispatching the patient when he caught sight of the waiting doctor. She was a tiny thing with golden blonde hair. She looked more like a model pretending to be a doctor than an actual doctor.
“Patient is Carl Grimes, 15 year old male with multiple contusions and possible ruptured liver” Daryl barked out the patient stats.
The tiny woman stepped forward and started listening to the chest of the boy.
“Prep him for a thoracotomy and page cardio. Sounds like there may be damage to myocardium as well.” Her voice was impossibly strong and confident for someone so small. Daryl noted the intern scrambling to follow her orders.
“Wait little girl. We need a real doctor here not some second year resident acting like a lone cowboy” Shane sneered.
Daryl wanted to groan. Shane had an issue with surgery residents. It was almost a game to him to terrorize new residents.
Shane stopped whatever he was about to say once the chief of surgery came out. Dale Horvath was like everyone’s grandpa, but he could be one intimidating son of a bitch when he chose to be.
“Hey boys, I’m glad you’ve met my new head of trauma Beth Greene” Dale introduced.
Daryl was impressed with Beth’s neutral expression in face of Shane’s horrified expression when he realized his mistake. Daryl was interested to see what this girl was made of.
A huge thank you to @persephoneswish for encouraging this story and being my beta. I’m thankful you put up with my neediness and continue to be so helpful and encouraging.
i’m gonna pitch an idea for a reylo Breakfast Club au, but here’s the twist! Kylo is not cast as Judd Nelson’s character and Rey is not cast as the princess. here’s what I’m thinking…
Poe: the criminal, got into detention for pulling the fire alarm, isn’t actually so much a punkass as he is a bonafide rebel who rails against his small town high school bullshit
Finn: the princess, in detention for skipping class, seen by everyone at school as a golden child and perfect cinnamon roll, but actually has a lot of anxiety about not fitting in with his genuinely shallow friend group and the consequences of abandoning the ‘popular kid’ mask (you see where i’m going with this?)
Kylo: the athlete, in detention for starting a fight with another student, pushed by his parents to achieve in fields he truly doesn’t care about, can’t seem to live up to his family’s expectations and lashes out because of it
Rey: the basketcase, showed up to hang out at the library and got locked in detention with the rest of them, no one actually knows her story because she makes up a new story about her parents and home life every time it comes up, compulsive liar because she won’t admit her parents left her behind in foster care and never came back for her
BB-8: the brain, put in detention for a flare gun found in their locker, they’re seen as a goofy brainiac and actually have major anxiety issues about grades, terrified of failure and disappointing people
and Hux is the dickhead principal who hates Poe with the passion of a planet-sized weapon depleting a sun. and i can’t write this because i have too many projects already, but there’s been some fandom nonsense earlier today, so i’m giving you all my thoughts on 80s movie reylo and stormpilot. please kindly imagine Poe walking triumphantly across a football field after kissing Finn, and Rey and Kylo having a heart-to-heart about parents and how they let you down in various ways and it doesn’t make you a bad person because what you choose to do moving forward is more important, please imagine BB-8 having found friends who like them because of who they are and not for what they can do for the first time
Jolana Nahele! She’s a soft sea dweller who spent most of her life deep, deep under the sea, with her tribe. Recently, though, she came up to the shore and started making shallow dwelling/land dwelling friends. She’s doesn’t really do a whole lot bc she’s brand new to this world and is afraid of offending people so mostly she just stares creepily at them. She’s quite nice, though, even to people who’ve been mean to her, and if you can make it past the ‘:) *watches you for six hours without blinking or saying anything*’ shit she does you’ll find someone who’s very gracious, forgiving, and understanding. She doesn’t forgive people for murder, though, especially if she knew the person who they killed.
Of course, being in her tribe her whole life, she had no idea there were other blood colors. She’s very surprised by this, and quite likes the idea of being ‘higher’ then other people, but doesn’t really put much stock into it bc she still hasn’t seen much of the implications of the hemospectrum, such as near total enslavement of the lower castes, murder and other things being acceptable if you do it to someone lower then you, and low bloods dying sooner then high bloods. She’s learning more about it every day but she’s still fairly new and it hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
While not very violent, she does have long ass nails and lots of very sharp teeths and won’t hesitate to kill someone if she thinks they’re not going to stop trying to kill her. She doesn’t have a weapon, but will eventually get a gold dagger.
Other fun facts: She lives off trolls that have drowned and various sea critters, and can see better in the dark then in the light. Her freckles/tats glow. She’s 12 sweeps, or 22 years old, and has a seapeacockmom. She’s also immune to psychic/chucklevoodoos/what-have-you stuff. She’s rather soft and squishy.
Tl;dr: She’s a sheltered young adult who doesn’t understand anything outside of her tribe, and is kinda weird but also actually nice and forgiving.
Anyway, that’s what I have for this lovely lady so far. She’s going to be my default muse on this blog, meaning that if i get an ask that isn’t directed at anyone, I’ll put it to her. Credit to @tatertotfairy for the original adopt design! :D
really grateful for the opportunity to talk about my various habitat restoration projects with @thebrainscoop - they’re so professional and good at making science-y stuff interesting and digestible and inspiring! what a swell place i work in.
or maybe about Harry Osborn... Idk... you're invited to one of his parties (let's just assume that Harry would be that kinda guy who loves to give parties) but he's already infected with that illness and has kind of a breakdown during the night and all his shallow "friends" leave cause they don't wanna deal with that and you're the only one who cares about him so you decide to stay and help him
how ‘bout you go fuck yourself xD
naah maybe I’ll write it. because it’s you. (who am I kidding, because Dane)
Especially for relationships that were together for a long time, it can be very beneficial to both if you can stay on friendly terms. And why shouldn’t you? You have so many memories together, did so much crazy stuff together and know each other much better than any shallow friends do. I think it’s worth a try, even if you go different roads now.
from “Lonely Traveller” part 2, by Sereno Sky, in progress
And ultimately, he’s going to find out. How you chew, how you sip, how you dance, how you smell at every point in the day. The fact that most of your friends are shallow. That you hate sitting in an aisle seat. How you don’t really like chocolate, how you get hyper when you travel, how certain games or shows make you really happy. How cranky you get when you’re tired, how you think you look bad in all of your pictures. He’s going to know everything about you. And you know what? He’s still going to love you
