shadow dogs

Inktober 2017, 10/31: The Dog and the Shadow
A DOG, crossing a bridge over a stream with a piece of flesh in his mouth, saw his own shadow in the water and took it for that of another Dog, with a piece of meat double his own in size. He immediately let go of his own, and fiercely attacked the other Dog to get his larger piece from him. He thus lost both: that which he grasped at in the water, because it was a shadow; and his own, because the stream swept it away.
It is not wise to be too greedy.
– Aesop’s Fables, translated by George Fyler Townsend

Shadow turned 6 years old on Wednesday! I can’t believe he’s already been with us for four years… The weather has been quite awful lately, but yesterday we managed to go to the field by the ocean so we played some fetch! Which was great because today’s weather it’s been all wind, rain, sleet and hail!

-this is a practice not a real panic/anxiety attack-

Shadows full response to panic.
First he lays his head on me to let me know, If I ignore him then he begins nudging my hands. If that still doesn’t work he instantly moves into DPT, and mouthed my hands to get me to stop clenching them, and finally licking my face to ground me and bring me back. I’m so proud that this response is fully proofed now!
