severe-weathers

Your sign & temper explained by the weather

freebornfox:

Aries: Wildfires - Like wildfires, Aries are always ready to ignite and do so easily. When ignited, there’s no telling when they will calm down. Their rage can last for quite some time especially if they were betrayed or hurt by a friend or lover. Also, like wildfires, an Aries’ anger can be intensified by the Air Signs because using their wit they can justify and aid in any and all revenge plans, especially Gemini. Likewise, the water signs will attempt to calm you down or eventually, put you out if you take it too far.

Taurus: Tsunami - Tsunamis are the most deadly when it comes to severe weather conditions, but they aren’t really to blame. See, it’s disruptions in the ocean, on the sea floor, etc. that get them riled up. Taurus, you’re the same way. Your anger doesn’t show itself often because it takes time to build. But when it does show itself, it can do some serious damage. You are set off by things you can’t control, people, and STUPIDITY.

Gemini: Lightening - Witnessing you arguing, is like watching lightening flit across the sky. There is not a point you don’t touch on. You have a readily prepared argument for anyone who opposes you. Your first argument works 99% of the time, but if for some reason it doesn’t, you have 10 other arguments and can spit them out at rapid fire. You are VICIOUS! But you don’t hold grudges. Like lightening, you strike once and leave, but your words always leave permanent bruises on the ego.

Cancer: Hurricane - All Cancers are insane, and we are no different when faced with an argument. Like hurricanes, we have levels. But I have to be honest, if we are really (finally) entering into an argument, we’re at a level 5.  A hurricane is rain, thunder, lightening, winds, etc. and a Cancer has just as many methods ready to inflict damage. When we want to fight, we will come at you verbally, physically, and mentally just like a hurricane. You’ll feel the effects afterwards. And to be clear, we aren’t like lightening; we strike more than once. So if we’ve fought once with you, we could probably go again.

Leo: Thunder - When you’re in a fight you want everyone to know about it. You are LOUD, you tell all your friends and anyone who will listen why they should be on your side, and your temper flairs out of nowhere. You love to bring up past fights, mistakes, and insecurities. It takes only one incident for you to boil over, and you will refuse to stop fighting until someone has apologized… to you. Someone always has to apologize to you. Then, things can go back to the way they were. Like Cancer, you too have a tendency to fight with the same people more than once.

Virgo: Floods - I would never say a Virgo is irrational. You just like things to be in a particular way, but you never fly off the handle. It’s not your style. So, if you are fighting, it’s because there are too many things out of order. THE DAM HAS BROKEN. EVACUATE. When a Virgo has finally snapped from all the dysfunction around them, they have really had it. There is no reasoning. They are out of patience. You need to just get away from them or you can drown in their critical, harsh words that will remind you of every mistake you’ve ever made.

Libra: Hail - Like hail, it’s weird when a Libra is mad. You almost don’t even know if they are actually mad. Sure, they’re acting slightly more colder and are shooting you dirty looks, but to look at them, they seem alright. When you look at hail, like an aggravated Libra, it just looks weird, but not dangerous. However, have hail hit you in the face and you will quickly realized that it CAN and WILL hurt you. Like Virgoes, Libras just needs some time to calm down. DON’T force them into a confrontation. Leave them alone, and it will all pass over.

Scorpio: Tornado - I hope none of you are shocked at my choice of weather. You are crazy, but when you’re angry, you become the definition of insanity. There is no calming you down. You don’t freak out often, but when you do, you need to run your course. Like a tornado, you take down everyone and everything in your path and can devastate an entire population. The damage you inflict stays awhile because you (purposefully) make it difficult for people to cleanup after you. You need your destruction to last.

Sagittarius: Volcano - Like volcanoes, you don’t erupt very often or easily. You’re easygoing and tend to let things slide (sometimes when you shouldn’t), but when you’re finally at your boiling point, you erupt without warning. Sometimes, you even try to hide your anger, but it is inevitable. The good news is that you don’t erupt for too long and aren’t partial to grudges.

Capricorn: Earthquake - I like to think of Capricorns as some of the most stable people on the planet, especially as you get older. (Everyone is kind of a mess when they’re young, so ignore that). In order for you to lose your temper and lose control, something must be seriously wrong. Most times, I think your set off by the same things that set Taurus off, people and stupidity, and Virgoes, disorder. Basically, disruption of your master plan or, even worse, anything that gets in the way of your ambitions, will have you shaking and freaking out to the point where you will most likely further disrupt what is going on around you. Eventually, you will calm down and fix everything like a true Capricorn, but sometimes those you have fought with are permanently forgotten. YOU DO HOLD GRUDGES.

Aquarius: Blizzard - An Aquarius’ anger is chilling, biting, cold. They aren’t going to strike at you in the middle of the night (that’s Scorpio). I think the most you’ll get from them is a calculated, callous remark that is only about the situation. They will normally never attack you for childish things like looks, (Gemini and Cancer will) or for things you’ve done wrong in the past (Leo and Capricorn will). They will only mention the situation and that is enough for them. They don’t need to make a big show out of their anger. In fact, that would be counterproductive because they are most likely going to disappear and never talk to you again anyway.

Pisces: Straight-line Winds - These winds are the natural partners of hurricanes. Actually during a hurricane, most of the damage comes from these winds; we just blame it on the hurricane. Your anger is silent. You will manipulate the situation to make it seem as if you aren’t involved, are completely innocent, and will get someone to fight your battles for you. Your anger is underhanded and sneaky, but you’re not a natural fighter. In my experience, it’s always Cancers and Leos who are willing to fight for you and on your behalf. Be careful, sometimes it is better to look like the bad guy, than to blame your mess on someone else.

Protective Storm Ward

A warding spell to protect an area against severe storm and weather

by Rainy-Day-Witchcraft

Materials

  • Storm water
  • Sea salt
  • Heather
  • Black Pepper
  • Thistle
  • Ground wood charcoal
  • Oven mits / Heat handling tools

Disclaimer: Some may develop hives or experience itch when physically dealing with thistle - if you have never worked with it before, find out if it’s safe for you to handle, as you would any herb or plant.

Step 1. In a fire-safe pot or cauldron sitting over a stove or fire, pour in about two cups of storm or rain water and a few tablespoons of salt. One by one, add in the ingredients as the water warms, speaking aloud or thinking of the properties of each ~ Heather (linked to mists and rain), Black pepper (earthly protection), Thistle (protection and banishment), and wood charcoal ground to a chalky powder (protection and banishment).

Allow your herbal water mixture to seep on a low temperature for a few minutes (if you’re using a non-stovetop fire, bring the water to an almost-boil and remove from heat source for a few minutes).

After the mixture has seeped, turn the heat up to high or return to heat source and allow it to come to a rolling boil; our goal here is to produce steam, so be sure it’s at the boiling point where a good amount is evaporating!

Step 2. Using heat handling tools or mits, carry the pot/cauldron to an area that is exposed to the outside air; you can choose to do this outside, or if the weather does not allow it, in front of an open window. If you are already working over an outdoor fire, staying where you are is fine!

Place the pot in front of you and allow the steam from the boiled mixture to waft up into the sky or out the window. As you watch, envision that the essence and energy from the herbs traveling up into the sky with the steam; it eases the clouds, quiets the winds, and banishes the danger. Continue to watch the steam until it cools and no longer produces as much, visualizing the clouds relieving their tension and the wind blowing them away. During this time you can recite a chant, blow on the steam, etc!

Step 3. When the above step is finished and the steam has diminished, it’s time to do away with the remaining watery plant pulp that did not evaporate. If the weather condones it, dig a small hole in the earth and pour the mixture into it; Mix it counter-clockwise three times with your finger, a wand, an athame, or a branch, and then proceed to cover the hole up with soil (feel free to once again chant or visualize). If the weather is still looking too severe to step outside, store the mixture in an air-tight jar and in a dark space (to prevent mold growth) until the storm subsides ~ It is then that you should bury the mixture. This protects the earth, and in turn the area you perform the spell around, from the damage of severe weather!

My ask and/or message box is open if you happen to have any questions or comments about the spell. Thank you!

What Science is Launching to Space?

The tenth SpaceX cargo resupply mission launched to the International Space Station on Feb. 18, and is carrying science ranging from protein crystal growth studies to Earth science payloads. Here’s a rundown of some of the highlights heading to the orbiting laboratory.

The CASIS PCG 5 investigation will crystallize a human monoclonal antibody, developed by Merck Research Labs, that is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of immunological disease. Results from this investigation have the potential to improve the way monoclonal antibody treatments are administered on Earth.

Without proteins, the human body would be unable to repair, regulate or protect itself. Crystallizing proteins provides better views of their structure, which helps scientists to better understand how they function. Often times, proteins crystallized in microgravity are of higher quality than those crystallized on Earth. LMM Biophysics 1 explores that phenomena by examining the movement of single protein molecules in microgravity. Once scientists understand how these proteins function, they can be used to design new drugs that interact with the protein in specific ways and fight disease.

Much like LMM Biophysics 1, LMM Biophysics 3 aims to use crystallography to examine molecules that are too small to be seen under a microscope, in order to best predict what types of drugs will interact best with certain kinds of proteins. LMM Biophysics 3 will look specifically into which types of crystals thrive and benefit from growth in microgravity, where Earth’s gravity won’t interfere with their formation. Currently, the success rate is poor for crystals grown even in the best of laboratories. High quality, space-grown crystals could improve research for a wide range of diseases, as well as microgravity-related problems such as radiation damage, bone loss and muscle atrophy.

Nanobiosym Predictive Pathogen Mutation Study (Nanobiosym Genes) will analyze two strains of bacterial mutations aboard the station, providing data that may be helpful in refining models of drug resistance and support the development of better medicines to counteract the resistant strains.

During the Microgravity Expanded Stem Cells investigation, crew members will observe cell growth and morphological characteristics in microgravity and analyze gene expression profiles of cells grown on the station. This information will provide insight into how human cancers start and spread, which aids in the development of prevention and treatment plans. Results from this investigation could lead to the treatment of disease and injury in space, as well as provide a way to improve stem cell production for human therapy on Earth.

The Lightning Imaging Sensor will measure the amount, rate and energy of lightning as it strikes around the world. Understanding the processes that cause lightning and the connections between lightning and subsequent severe weather events is a key to improving weather predictions and saving life and property.

From the vantage of the station, the LIS instrument will sample lightning over a wider geographical area than any previous sensor.

Future robotic spacecraft will need advanced autopilot systems to help them safely navigate and rendezvous with other objects, as they will be operating thousands of miles from Earth.

The Raven (STP-H5 Raven) studies a real-time spacecraft navigation system that provides the eyes and intelligence to see a target and steer toward it safely. Research from Raven can be applied toward unmanned vehicles both on Earth and in space, including potential use for systems in NASA’s future human deep space exploration.

SAGE III will measure stratospheric ozone, aerosols, and other trace gases by locking onto the sun or moon and scanning a thin profile of Earth’s atmosphere.

These measurements will allow national and international leaders to make informed policy decisions regarding the protection and preservation of Earth’s ozone layer. Ozone in the atmosphere protects Earth’s inhabitants, including humans, plants and animals, from harmful radiation from the sun, which can cause long-term problems such as cataracts, cancer and reduced crop yield.

Tissue Regeneration-Bone Defect (Rodent Research-4) a U.S. National Laboratory investigation sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) and the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, studies what prevents other vertebrates such as rodents and humans from re-growing lost bone and tissue, and how microgravity conditions impact the process.

Results will provide a new understanding of the biological reasons behind a human’s inability to grow a lost limb at the wound site, and could lead to new treatment options for the more than 30% of the patient.

Note: Inspired by the movie Wolf Children, totally different from this fic tho, so no need to worry. this was supposed to be 3k what happened-

To you, he was something you would have never known could actually exist.

He was as mysterious as they would come, holding his pencil in a way so elegant that you didn’t know was possible, the look of boredom sprouting through his features as he scrunched his nose in concentration; ears twitching while he tried to draw something perfect and pleasing to his eyes. You watched him sketch with such wonder in your irises, and even though you wondered how he could draw while ignoring the professor speak and try to teach his students about the basic wonders of the world — you hadn’t known that whilst watching the boy draw, you were also in a little world of your own and not paying attention yourself.

Tornado Recovery Underway at Michoud Assembly Facility

Teams at our Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans worked overnight and are continuing Wednesday with assessment and recovery efforts following a tornado strike at the facility Tuesday at 11:25 a.m. CST. All 3,500 employees at the facility have been accounted for, with five sustaining minor injuries.

Teams worked through the night on temporary repairs to secure the perimeter fencing and provide access for the essential personnel through the main gate. Approximately 40 to 50 percent of the buildings at Michoud have some kind of damage; about five buildings have some form of severe damage.

Approximately 200 parked cars were damaged, and there was damage to roads and other areas near Michoud.

“The entire NASA family pulls together during good times and bad, and the teams at the Michoud Assembly Facility are working diligently to recover from the severe weather that swept through New Orleans Tuesday and damaged the facility,” said acting NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot. “We are thankful for the safety of all the NASA employees and workers of onsite tenant organizations, and we are inspired by the resilience of Michoud as we continue to assess the facility’s status.”

Teams will reassess the condition of the Vertical Assembly Center (VAC), as the initial examination revealed some electrical damage to its substation. The VAC is used to weld all major pieces of hardware for the core stage of the Space Launch System. The most recently welded part was removed from the facility last week.

The team has prioritized completing the assessment at the site’s main manufacturing building for the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft flight hardware so power can be restored in phases and temporary protection put in place to shield hardware from any further inclement weather.

BTS Reaction to their S/O loving thunderstorms/severe weather

Jin:

Jin would be a little shocked at first at how excited you got when you heard the faint rumble of thunder in the distance. He would find it cute and asked you to explain why you liked weather like this rather than sunny days. As you talked, he set up a little cozy nest near the window full of blankets and a few snacks. Though it wasn’t his thing, if it was yours, he’d love it with you. “Ready to watch the storm, sweetie?”

Yoongi:

Yoongi would smile a bit. He never really found anybody who liked thunderstorms as much as he did. You both grew excited and talked about how you loved the sound of the pouring rain on the roof, the loud cracks of thunder and the greyness of the sky. He would snuggle you in a blanket and kiss you softly. “I didn’t think rainy days could be any better… but I think spending these rainy days with you, made it perfect…” he’d mumble as he cuddled you until you both calmly fell asleep.

Hobi:

Hoseok would be a bit confused at first due to his love of bright warm days. As he saw how excited you got at such weather, he would get excited too! Though he would slightly jump with some loud cracks and bright flashes of lightning, he would love it. His jumps make you laugh, which make him smile and hold on to you tightly. “Oooo… I like sunny days more. Though the rain is starting to grow on me!”

Namjoon:

Namjoon loves rainy days, but not particularly thunderstorms. He didn’t mind them either way. He’d watch you staring out the window, laughing with excitement as the lightning flashed and lit up the dim house. He’d quietly sit with you and just watch you intently. “You’re such a goofball. Laughing at the thunder like that” he’d chuckle “but that’s why I love you. You’re so interesting… can you tell me why you love storms so much?” His eyes slightly sparkled with interest waiting for your words.

Jimin:

Jimin just didn’t get it. He didn’t really like the rain. It made everything wet, going places was a hassle and it was so dark. Not to mention the loud noise that came with thunderstorms. He saw your eyes grow wide as the storm clouds were on the horizon. Jimin sighed at the sign of the rain. “Wait, you like these storms…? I-I’m sorry, jagi! Let’s go inside and watch it together.”

Taehyung:

He would be excited right there with you. He didn’t see the big deal, but he wanted to enjoy it with you. He loves trying to make you smile so why not just dance around to the rhythm the rain was tapping out on the roof with the random booms of the thunder than made the base. The Lightning gave you strobe lights to flail about to as well. He’d take your hands, wiggle your arms about and twirl you around. “I love rain dancing with you, cutie pie!” Tae would giggle as your smile grew wider.

Jungkook:

He would be a bit scared of the thunder but never want to admit it. He hates the way it was so loud and how it rumbled the whole house. When the storm started, he curled in bed and hid under the covers that tightly wrapped him in a cocoon. You came jumping in excitedly, squeaking about how good the storm would be. He poked his head out slightly and shrugged. “I guess… can you just hold me until it’s over….?”

anonymous asked:

I saw that post about when it's raining and it's time for 'weird witch stuff', and it got me thinking of what are some of the with stuff you can do in the rain?

Quite a number of things, Anon!  Of course, keep in mind that your local laws may vary on the legality of collecting rain water.  Always be cautious and look up your city and state laws regarding this.  Also, be careful about ingesting rain water unless you’re confident on how to properly filter and purify it.

COLLECTING RAIN WATER

  • Rain collected during a gentle rain fall is said to inspire peace and serenity, and is useful in calming and tranquility spells.
  • Rain collected during a storm is said to carry the energy of the storm - powerful, ferocious, energetic.  Use storm water for empowering spells.
  • Add hot sauce, capsaicin or extremely hot crushed peppers (with caution) to storm water to get fire water, useful for warding and curses.
  • Rain collected during a wind storm, such as a hurricane or tornado, is said to help with letting go and moving forward.  That being said, collect with caution and never put yourself in danger to do so.
  • Rain or hail collected from a hail storm can be used for destructive purposes, for warding against and eliminating psychic attacks or creating them.
  • Collect water off of a gravestone to create spirit water, useful for spells involving spirits and ancestors. Caution: Preferably collect this from a friend or family member who was comfortable with your witchcraft, or a spirit who has agreed to this. Always return the favor with an offering.
  • Rain collected off of a flower tends to carry the trait of that flower.
  • Rain collected from a dirt ground can be used for grounding.
  • Rain collected from a crossroads can be used for choosing a direction.
  • Rain collected from a liminal space can be used for astral travel (crossing the hedge/venturing into the Other).
  • Rain collected during a full moon is purified water or empowered with the moonlight.
  • Rain collected on sabbats are useful for those sabbats’ intents (eg, Spring Equinox for fertility, May Day for sexuality, Midsummer for sun and fire, Samhain for ancestors and spirits, etc).
  • General rain water is used for cleansing.  Use it to cleanse yourself, your house, your jewelry, your stones (that aren’t water soluble) and more.

UTILIZING RAIN AND STORMS

  • Rain and storms tend to evoke certain moods in us and are perfect for raising energy for spell work or ritual.  Just be cautious if you decide to venture outside, especially if lightning or severe weather is a risk.
  • Rain has great purifying and cleansing properties.  Consider cleansing tools that can’t be damaged by water in the rain, or step out in the rain to cleanse yourself.
  • Spells that involve letting go or cleansing are appropriate during this time.  Consider writing down negative thoughts with a watercolor pencil and set it out during a rain to watch it physically wash away.
  • For anyone who keeps plants, indoor or outdoor, rain is a great refresher.  Particularly for indoor plants, who cleanse our air and home, setting them out for a light rain shower can help cleanse them as well and suck the negativity out of their leaves.  Just be careful not to over-water indoor plants with rain water.

CALLING UPON RAIN AND STORMS

  • Beliefs vary on weather magick.  Some witches and pagans believe you can use spells to alter your local weather and some don’t.  It’s up to you to make a decision on this belief.
  • Cast a flint stone or sand behind your back to the west to call forth rain (De Lamiis Libre, 1577)
  • Splash a besom end in fresh water from a live spring, lake, stream or river.  Then use the broom to either “stir the sky” or sprinkle water above your head.
  • Call upon rain by whistling to rustle wind while pouring water from a pitcher into a bowl.
  • Use an incense recipe to call upon rain.  Some might be available at your local store or you can use a mixture of bracken, fern and heather.
  • Fling water onto your hearth stone to call upon rain.

Off the top of my head, that’s everything I can think of.  Good luck to you, Anon!

Here’s a fic based on the first part of this post w/ College AU klance, Lance sick and stranded at the airport, and Keith knowing what caretaking is.

For Lance, bad news comes in the form of a woman’s voice, calmly notifying the lobby full of passengers that their flight to Michigan has been delayed for five hours due to severe weather conditions. His stomach drops. Uncomfortable dread washes over him. He can’t take another five hours in the airport, he just can’t.

As mentioned in my last article about Shirakawa-Go I’m writing an article about the tools displayed in the attics of these houses :)

I took those photos in 3 different attics and decided to post them together in one article because it makes sense to me to write about the tools I saw and then write about the other things in those attics in another article :)

The biggest tools I saw were made for the maintenance of the roofs of the houses :)
Most tools were actually meant to be used to make building materials for houses and tools for field work or tools for the maintenance, repair or fabrication of woodworking tools :)

One of the major differences between these houses and many other Japanese houses from the same period is that there was even less metal used during their construction :)
Many houses in cities used Metal parts for door pulls or nails or wire to fix the shingles to the roof but in these there is no need to fix shingle to the roof and while some door pulls are made from metal many aren’t. It was fascinating to me :3

The needles look like they were made by giants but it makes sense since the thread/rope used and the size/thickness of the thatch bundles makes it necessary to scale the needles to fit these :)

Most of the wood used in these homes was not finished or dimensioned to the same degree as homes in cities or other places in Japan but the wood in the places where the inhabitants spent most of their time was just as finely finished and dimensioned as in any other place in Japan :)
I think this selection was necessary due to the limited time and severe weather that would have punished the builders and future inhabitants by destroying or damaging the house before it was even finished.
I admire how they still made sure that the timber looked nice and doesn’t splinter :3
I think in some way these are pinnacles of both craftsmanship, logistics and architecture as they were built in the open or with a limited amount of covering from the elements, little resources and in a limited time :)

The tools are just as finely made as the tools found in the cities in Japan :)
I like how they store their tools with the other valuables to keep them away from moisture and ensure a good ventilation to prevent the handles from getting loose, rot, rust and bugs from eating the wooden parts of the tools :)

I wish I could write something like a catalogue that would list the exact tools used in the construction and maintenance of these houses but unfortunately I lack the time and resources to do so :/

This week was quite relaxed and nice :)
I did a lot of work on some woodworking project, made some waffles and went to the Hafengeburtstag in Hamburg :)
Tomorrow I’ll have a job interview :)
Recently I often wish I would have a girlfriend (-_-;)
I’m feeling lonely despite having some great friends who are very caring.

I will write an article about the Hafengeburtstag tomorrow and another one once I finish my current woodworking project :)

I wish everyone a great new week with nice friends and a person who loves you and who you cherish as well as sweet dreams (^-^)/

Yikes

“Uh, what are you doing?”

Danny didn’t need to look up from his work to know that Tony was giving him The Look.

Since he had started living with the world famous heroes, he had grown accustomed to that look. Steve did his with a raised eyebrow. Natasha just stared at him. Clint and Wanda had most of their faces twisted into something that resembled confusion. And Tony had that, but like, a million times worse. Danny’s goal was to make it permanent on the playboy’s ‘perfect’ face.

“Absolutely nothing,” he replied innocently.

It was only the same thing he had been working on for the past month. He was lucky to have inherited his parent’s knack for technology. It wasn’t on Tony’s level, but one, he was only nineteen, and two, he did paranormal technology. Tony’s was more based off of whatever the hell he wanted.

“What are you building? You know, in my lab, with my tools?” Oh, he sounded irritated. It made Danny chuckle on the inside.

“Something convenient,” he answered with a shrug.

He could tell that he was pissing Tony off, and it kind of amused him. However, he was kind of surprised to see that he hadn’t figured it out yet. He’s seen the one at his parent’s house. You don’t see many octagons cut into the wall with the standard yellow and black striped border.

“Are you building one of those ghost portals?” Tony asked.

“What gave it away? The giant octagon in the wall or the blueprints I borrowed from my parents?” Danny lifted his mask and turned to Tony.

“Why? Why do we need two portals?”

“Because I can’t go all the way back to Amity all the time, and ghosts are everywhere. I’ve been in the thermos, man, it’s not comfortable. Despite my parent’s beliefs, us ghosts do feel pain. Dude, my back hurt for like a month after being stuck in there. Clint has horrible aim when he doesn’t have a bow in his hand, apparently.”

“Actually, that was because you said his dog drawing looked like shit.”

“Well, it did. But anyway, yeah it’s for convenience. Plus I can get to visit Frostbite more often.”

“Yeah…Okay…Well, I’m gonna go now. Just, don’t break anything, okay?”

“Yeah, sure,” Danny waved him off. “Whatever.”

Tony nodded and left, and as soon as he walked through the threshold he heard a huge crash, and a string of curses in Danny’s ghost jargon.

Tony just kept walking.
