Did I mention how much I love Angela Clayton? Because she’s seriously so cute. As is mentioned in the video this is the base for many Lolita Skirts and Renaissance clothing as well as being essential to making a pleated skirt. It has more or less the same shape, you need to know how to make the waist band and add a zipper and hem it in much the same way. The easier way to make a pleated skirt (mathless skirt) is to sew two large rectangle and pleat them until you get the desired width (ie waistline). I literally eye ball the pleats. Cut the excess and add a zipper. It’s overly simple but it works and way too lazy but it works.
Just look at this for a minute or two. Just look at all of the details. How Tom smiles at her with such fondness. How he lightly hugs her as though scared to scare or break her. How he lightly grabs her hand as though she were a princess. How he bends over as though to protect her from the cold wind. Things like this, are what makes you think about how he would treat his own child, a little girl none the less. How much he would purely adore her with every fiber of his being, treat her like the most important princess in all the nine realms. These moments, these amazing moments, are what draw us to him, are what make us adore him so much, are what make us want to love him so fiercely. These types of things are what makes him such a beautiful human being and such a wonderful man.
Which sienne is your favorite? What do you like about them? Which role of theirs did you enjoy most?
My favorite sienne: Nozomi Fuuto
What I like about her: Her amazingly adaptable voice: from angelic étoiles to belty ballads. She sings like a dream and loves doing so. Her 真面目 personality. It’s very admirable (and cute) how she takes everything so seriously.
How she is an unabashed Takarazuka fan. Her warmness. A gentle smile from her always brightens my day.
Her role I enjoyed most: Since I’m a sucker for Daimon’s クズ男, I ought to give shoutouts to Terry Benedict and Luigi Lucheni. However, I feel the most pride about her work with Genta, as it was a challenge for her both as a nihonmono and as a character who experiences a wide range of emotions and loss. She broke my heart so many times. I really don’t know how she can do any better than she did, so I’m really curious about Hoshiai 2.0. I’m going down to Nagoya this weekend so I’ll get back to you on that. 👍
What show would you love to see restaged? What would you most like to see a Takarazuka adaptation of? What do you hope there is never a Takarazuka adaptation of?
Show I’d like to see restaged: “Phantom”
Desired adaptation: “Der Besuch der Alten Dame” (”The Visit”). It was picked up by Toho, which I regrettably missed this past December but I was lucky to see it in Vienna back in 2014 with Pia Douwes and Uwe Kröger. Since the show does not suit Hankyu’s politics (unless an otokoyaku were cast as an onnayaku) it will probably never be staged but damn, what would I give to see Junya Chitose as Claire?
Unwanted adaptation: I can’t think of any one in particular, but I would like Hankyu to steer clear of brownface and blackface.
What’s your favorite solo? Which revue song always gets stuck in your head? What song do you skip?
Favorite solo: Daimon’s solo during the “Finale Escalera” scene of “La Esmeralda.” For so many reasons. You have the spotlight shift to her on the okaidan, surrounded by musumeyaku with the rest of the otokoyaku below as the music dramatically crescendoes from “Mambo No. 5″ to “Kanashiki Negai,” a song from “BLUE MOON BLUE” – the revue that inspired her to become a Takarasienne. Just when you thought it couldn’t get anymore meaningful, throw in the fact that Chigi believes the “emerald made by hand” from the lyrics is Daimon. 💘 And then obviously she delivers the song so passionately, with a wink as icing on the cake. I will defend “La Esmeralda” until the end as it was my first revue among other things. ✊
Earworm revue song: “EXCITER!!” But more recently “Greatest HITS!” because I’ve been hearing that theme since last July.
Songs I skip: I usually watch and listen to things all the way through but if I’m in public and don’t want to cry, I’ll ironically skip some of Daimon’s songs 😅
