An instrument he learnt when he joined the Bancroft Amateur Dramatic Society, where he “…acted Wilde, sang the English drinking songs, learned Gilbert and Sullivan and how to play the banjo."
The last picture is from the set of The Magic Flame, where ”…he played a circus clown and a villainous count. He introduced the idea of the clown playing a banjo, being an old virtuoso from his amateur theatrical days, and serenaded the astonished company with his repertoire.“

I'm soft at Niall reaching for jakes hand after he was done shredding it
it took me AGES to respond to this because i ripped the audio from the video of the performance and have been comparing it with the radio-only audio for…literally no good reason, i just like hearing it, lol, BUT!! watching this vid with an eye on jake was absolutely well worth sticking to and not just even for that. i had to make a list: a) niall’s subtle bouncing in his seat, this song makes me wanna groove too, b) i always forget he’s genuinely a pretty accomplished guitar player? he’s so GOOD, c) that moment when he stops playing guitar and catches hold of the mic instead and sings ‘well i’m walking hooome…’ like, my door’s open, man, take a detour and serenade me pls. and then d) at the very end, the little hand-hold and that look like ‘we smashed it, eh?’..absolutely you did
