Japanese National Holidays

Since Golden Week in Japan has started I thought I’d make a quick list of the Japanese National Holidays. There are of course many other days throughout the year that people celebrate, but these are the ones that the government recognizes and the public offices are closed during.

There are two rules in place that apply to any current and future national holidays:

1. When a holiday falls on a Sunday the day after is a 振替休日 「ふりかえきゅうじつ」 “Substitute Holiday” and is also taken off

2. Any day between 2 other holidays is also taken of as a 国民の休日 「こくみんのきゅうじつ」 “Citizen’s Holiday”

1月 January

元日 「がんじつ」New Year’s Day - January 1st

成人の日 「せいじんのひ」Coming of Age Day - Second Monday of January (January 9th 2017, January 8th 2018, January 14th 2019)
This holiday is to celebrate/congratulate those who have reached the age of 20 and thus have entered adulthood. Ceremonies, similar to graduation ceremonies, are held across the country in which the boys dress in suits or hakama and the girls dress in colorful furisode.

2月 February
建国記念の日 「けんこくきねんのひ」National Foundation Day - February 11th
This day celebrates the foundation of Japan and the beginning of the Emperor Jimmu’s reign (He is said to have reigned from February 11th 660 BC to April 9th 585 BC).

3月 March

春分の日 「しゅんぶんのひ」 Vernal Equinox - March 20th or 21st (March 20th 2017, March 21st 2018, March 21st 2019)
Many people use this day to visit family grave sites.

4月 April

昭和の日 「しょうわのひ」Showa Day - April 29th
This is the first day of Golden Week. This day is to honor the birthday and reign of Emperor Showa, who was head of state during WW2 and during the recovery period following the war. When the holiday was officially instated in 2007 it was noted that the day is for public reflection on the hardships of Emperor Showa’s reign, rather than a glorification of it.

5月 May

憲法記念日 「けんぽうきねんび」Constitutional Memorial Day - May 3rd
The current Japanese’s Constitution came into effect on May 3rd, 1947 and thus May 3rd is associated with the democracy of Japan and the current Japanese government.

みどりの日 「みどりのひ」Greenery Day - May 4th
From 1989 to 2007 Greenery Day was on April 29th as a replacement for what had been the Emperor’s Birthday. However when Showa Day was created Greenery day was moved to May 4th partly because any day between two holidays was already a “Citizen’s Holiday” and thus it did not create any new days off in the public calendar.

こどもの日 「こどものひ」Children’s Day  - May 5th
(Last day of Golden week)
Children’s Day is to celebrate the happiness and well-being of children. This holiday used to be referred to as “Boy’s Day,” but since 1948 has been recognized as a day to celebrate all children and their parents. Girl’s Day (also called Doll’s Day and Hinamatsuri, March 3rd) is still celebrated but has never been made into a public holiday.

6月 June

There are no public holidays in June, which is probably for the best since it is the start of the rainy season.

7月 July

海の日 「うみのひ」Marine Day - Third Monday of July (July 17th 2017, July 16th 2018 , July 15th 2019)
A day to celebrate all that the seas provide and wish for the future prosperity of the ocean.

8月 August

山の日 「やまのひ」Mountain Day - August 11th
Once upon a time, in 2014, someone took a look at Marine Day and said “But what about the mountains???” And thus Mountain Day was created.**

**Not the actual origin story.

Legislation to recognize Mountain Day as a national holiday was passed in 2014 and was officially added to the calendars for 2016. The legislation refers to it as “A chance to become closer with the mountains and give thanks for their blessings”

9月 September

敬老の日 「けいろうのひ」Respect for the Aged Day - Third Monday in September (September 18th 2017, September 17 2018, September 16 2019)
A day to pay respect for those who have devoted themselves to the society for many years and to celebrate their longevity.

秋分の日 「しゅうぶんのひ」 Autumnal Equinox September 22nd or 23rd (September 23rd for 2017, 2018 and 2019)
Many people use this day to visit family grave sites.

10月 October

体育の日 「たいいくのひ」 Health and Sports Day - Second Monday of October (October 9th 2017, October 8th 2018 , October 14th 2019)
This day is to promote an active lifestyle. Many local sporting events as well as school activities are held on this day. It also takes place during the time of year in which the weather is usually fair and thus best for outdoor activity.

11月 November

文化の日 「ぶんかのひ」  Culture Day - November 3rd
Culture Day is for promoting culture, art and academics. Many local governments host art exhibits or parades on this day.

勤労感謝の日 「きんろうかんしゃのひ」Labour Thanksgiving Day - November 23rd
This is a day to recognize the efforts and production of the Japanese workforce. Probably the best known celebration on this day is a firework show held in Nagano.

12月 December

天皇誕生日 「てんのうたんじょうび」The Emperor’s Birthday - December 23rd
This holiday celebrates the birthday of the current Emperor and as such the date of it changes when a new Emperor takes the Chrysanthemum Throne. It is one of the few days when the general public are allowed to enter the grounds of the Imperial Palace for a public address.

When was Jouta Kujo born?

Here at k64corruptions, we make only the most serious posts. Recently, some horrifying thoughts have come up into my mind. One of which is the question “When was Jouta Kujo born?” I shall reveal the answer for all of you.

Jouta Kujo was born in 1989 according to CLAMP in Wonderland 1994 Summer (he was 10 years old during the events of Diamond is Unbreakable).

His Zodiac sign is Virgo, according to the info box about him. (Fun fact: Jouta can knit a sweater in one night, according to the box.) Thus, Jouta was born somewhere August 23rd and September 22nd, 1989. Can we figure out a more precise date for Jouta? Yes, we can! Although it is mostly me bullshitting an answer out.

According to some articles with dubious research, the Zodiac dates we know are out-of-sync with what they should be. So, according to an articles, if Jouta Kujo was a Virgo, his birth date would actually be between September 16 and October 30th.

Do you know what ‘holiday’ falls in October?

World Egg Day, which falls on the second Friday of October. I could get a picture showing what date World Egg Day would fall on in 1989, but it turns out that it’s the same date as this year’s WED.

Jouta is currently 27 years old, was born on October 13th, and is ready to kill again

Introduction to; GOT7!

Here’s another introduction post I’ve been working on! I hope you find it useful and if you don’t already know who GOT7 are, I hope it helps you get to know them a little better! {UPDATED ON: 2017.01.06}

Meet GOT7 / 갓세븐;

(Left to right; Jinyoung, Youngjae, Mark, Jaebum, Jackson, BamBam, Yugyeom)

GOT7 are a 7 member boy group under JYP Entertainment that contain not only Korean members, but Chinese, Thai and American members too. They first debuted on January 16th 2014 with their debut single “Girls, Girls, Girls” from their EP “Got It?” (we’ll get into all their singles and MV’s later!). GOT7′s fandom name is called “iGOT7″ or sometimes you will hear/see people say “ahgase” instead. This is a cute play on words or shortening of words in Korean.

I GOT7 =  아이 갓세븐
Ahgase = 아가새

Ahgase also means “baby bird” in Korean - and that just makes it even more cute ^^

So who are GOT7? Let’s meet the members below!

Photo series #7

This photo series will bring a well known fighter jet, the fifth generation, twin engine, air superiority, stealth fighter, the Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor.

Developed from the YF-22, the USAFs ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighter) program winner, the Raptor is one of the most modern fighter jets in the world, although it was primarily designed for air superiority and as a replacement for the F-15, it also has ground attack, eletronic warfare and SIGINT (Signal Intelligence) capabilities.

Because of a series of high costs and lack of missions for it’s intended role, production has ended in 2011 and the last F-22 was delivered in 2012.

The first combat sortie of this fighter jet happened in September 22nd, 2014 when F-22s dropped 1000lb GPS guided bombs on Islamic State targets, in June 2015, it performed the first CAS (Close Air Support) of the aircraft. Although combat sorties are still somewhat slim, the F-22 has had an increase number of missions for ISR ( intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) gathering during it deployment to the Middle East.

Here are some of it’s specifications:

Engines: Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 turbofans with thrust vectoring in the pitch axis (up and down)

 1 x 20mm  M61A2 Vulcan

For AA (Air to Air) missions:

6 x AIM-120 AMRAAM

2 x AIM-9 Sidewinder

For AG (Air to Ground) missions:

2 x 1000lb JDAM or 8 x 250lb GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs

2 x AIM-9 Sidewinder

2 x AIM-120 AMRAAM

It also has 4 under-wing pylons for drop tanks or weapons with a capacity of 5000lb.

Now of all of this is controlled by an AN/APG-77 radar with an AN/AAR-56 Missile Launch Detector, AN/ALR-94 Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and a MJU-39/40 flare countermeasures.

And that’s it for this photo series, don’t forget to like, reblog and follow, there is a new photo series every wednesday and sunday.

If you have any suggestions, contributions or want to send a complete photo series, don’t be shy, send them to me and i’ll upload them!

Protective/Supportive Aaron

For @bartsugsy and @sapphicsugden as requested (Includes some paraphrasing.)

•6th February 2015 Remember that one minor incident when Aaron sent Robert away to get married and rid Wylie’s of any evidence that they were ever there and continued to keep that secret even after he found out Robert pushed Katie. Which is the only reason Robert’s gorgeous ass hasn’t been rotting away in a prison cell for the last two years. But no big deal. Just Aaron saving Robert on a daily basis.
•9th February 2015 Aaron’s new mantra where Robert and Katie’s death are concerned “It’s not his fault!”
•10th February 2015 The slap heard round the world when mama bear Chas turns feral on her cub because Aaron dares to blame Katie for sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong. Obviously it was Katie’s fault Robert burnt down her caravan.
•11th February 2015 Go ahead and tell Chrissie I’ve been boning her husband mum and WE ARE DONE!!!
•9th April 2015 BTW Paddy. I totally text Katie and told her to meet me at Wylie’s that day. It was all totes my fault and you shouldn’t blame Robert for anything! EVER!!!
•12th May 2015 God Robert why are you such a human disastercase getting drunk off a single pint (👀👀👀) of whiskey? Let me help you back to the pub, get you a glass of water and kindly let you sneak in a little snog.
•13th May 2015 *Clears throat* Excuse me Chrissie, I might have been one of the people who broke into your house so I know for a fact Robert’s super sorry about it. Now can you please take your sad sack of a husband back? (Even if I still kind of sort of love him and want him to be mine.)
•25th June 2015 Cain my man! I know Robert might look really good with a bruised face but you still can’t beat the hell out of him like this. Here babes. Let me help you home and pretend it has nothing to do with my ongoing struggle over how much I still love you. K…K…cool.
•21st July 2015 Geez “Dad”! My boyfriend’s a total idiot who likes to run his mouth off but stop making up lies and saying he tried to bury you in a grain pit. While you’re at it stay away from me!
•25th September 2015 (Also 22nd October 2015) Listen dude, I really hate you but I’m still going to cry over your bleeding body while I try to stop the life from leaving you and decide if I really want you to live or die.
•18th March 2016 *Chokes on beer* LIV! It’s super inappropriate to ask someone what it’s like getting shot and we defs don’t ask to see the scar. (Side eye…especially since I still haven’t seen it yet.)
•5th April 2016 So the thing is Robert, my little sister is a bit confused right now and she recorded you saying you bribed Ryan. Now we both know that was a really ridic move on your part but you’ve been super amazing and taken care of me a lot and I really don’t want anything to happen to you for protecting me so I’ll try to do the same for you.
•10th May 2016 Hey now missy! I will tolerate a lot but I draw the line at comparing my boyfriends godlike face to that of a rodent. Show some respect. You know I missed out on some…..tea time…with him yesterday because of you.
• 6th June 2016 Okay I’ve been in jail enough times to know the rules so you need to let my guy go before I really start to lose it. And you Olivia Flaherty take a good look at everything Robert has done recently because guess what. THAT’S LOVE! ALL OF IT WAS BECAUSE HE LOVES ME!
•14 July 2016 *Staring at Robert dreamily* What’s that officer? I was busy mooning over him calling me his boyfriend. Oh yeah. He DEFINITELY bought me a super sweet expensive watch back in February.
•16 August 2016 Babe that purse doesn’t really go with your outfit AND NEITHER WILL HANDCUFFS IF YOU GET SENT DOWN FOR HELPING YOUR BROTHER. Please don’t risk your life and our future for that. I can’t lose you.
•17 August 2016 Fiiiiiiiiine……..I’ll help you take down Lachlan and the Whites (even though I dont really think it’s a good idea) but we have to be super careful or someone (namely us) could get hurt.
•31 August 2016 Lachlan: I’m gonna kill you. Aaron: Human shield activate. Robert: That was hot as hell! He is so getting laid tonight.
•17 October 2016 Hey there Lachlan! Let me show you what happens when vile little cretins such as yourself threaten my love and my life. First, you get your head shoved in this conveniently placed barrel of water. Then thrown in the boot of my car.
•08 November 2016 Diane, Robert was just trying to help Andy and do what he thought was best for your family. *mumbles under breath* Not that any of you would ever notice or appreciate the way he bends over backwards for you anyways.
• 11th November 2016 Here love. Let me rub your back and console you while you mourn your mother. Sorry your siblings couldn’t make it.
•1st December 2016 THE HE’S MINE BACK OFF LADY DEATH STARE!!! If looks could kill Rebecca would be long gone and this storyline would never have happened. (I’m counting it! Fight me!)
•5th January 2017 I’m sorry Chrissie, remind me again how it’s Robert’s fault Lachlan shot your dad? Pretty sure he picked that gun up all on his own. So stop ruining my birthday!
•20th January 2017 Robert you really are a total flaming idiot if you don’t take this opportunity to run a mile because I’m not good for you.
•21st February 2017 Robert Jacob Sugden you are amazing! You did everything in your power to give me the wedding of my dreams and more importantly than that you chose the pub where I was dared you to stand up and proudly announce to everyone who and what you are.
•21st February 2017 Whoa there Diane how about we get you a drink and avoid talking about Jack. (Because he totally didn’t deserve someone as incredible as Robert. He should have loved him unconditionally and if he was here today I’d probably knock him on his ass for messing with this beautiful man’s head.) Although, babe you really should think about talking to Vic and Diane about it. It might help you to move on.
•6th April 2017 OMG babe! I’m so sorry I accidentally punched you’re perfect beautiful face. (This time I really didn’t mean it.) Here let me caress it softly and make it all better. There there now.
•12th April 2017 Listen Robert we both know you didn’t get that tummy by running on the regular. Save yourself and go home before you keel over and die. I’ll be fine. (Okay so it’s a stretch but I feel a tummy mention is just expected of me at this point.)

Going to the Salem Witch Trials Memorial is something I will never forget.

In my younger years as a witch, I never really wanted to see that part of Salem–Honestly, I am not sure if it is because I just wasn’t interested as a young practitioner or I didn’t quite grasp the weight that the Salem Witch Trials and mass hysteria had on our world.  Only as I have gotten older have I become more and more passionate about the historical events aligned with witchcraft.

In 1692, nearly two hundred people in the Salem area were accused of witchcraft, then considered a crime.  This episode is one of Colonial America’s most notorious cases of mass hysteria. It has been used in political rhetoric and popular literature as a vivid cautionary tale about the dangers of isolationism, religious extremism, false accusations, and lapses in due process.  Twenty of the accused were tried and executed–victims of fear, superstition, and a court system that failed to protect them.

The abuses of the Salem witch trials contributed to changes in U.S. court procedures, playing a role in the advent of the guarantee of the right to legal representation, the right to cross-examine one’s accuser, and the presumption of innocence rather than of guilt.  A memorial was created to honor the memory of these twenty victims and to remind us of the enduring lessons of human rights learned from the tragedy of the witch trials.  The memorial was designed by architect Jim Cutler and artist Maggie Smith, and was dedicated in 1992 by Elie Wiesel.

“The Salem Witch Trials Tercentenary Memorial attempts to give form to concepts of injustice…The designers approached the idea of injustice through four words: Silence, Deafness, Persecution and Memory. To represent silence, they graded and organized the site to emphasize the surrounding tombstones as mute watchers looking into the memorial. For deafness, they inscribed the historical protests of innocence on the entry threshold and had them slide under the stone wall in mid-sentence. For persecution, they planted black locust trees, from which the accused believed to have been hanged. For memory, they inscribed the names, dates, and manners of death on stone slabs, which were then cantilevered from the stone wall as benches.”

When we first got into Salem and stood outside the Witch House, the architecture struck me as odd and the color choice was so stark in contrast to the lively summer green of plant life in the front garden.  My friends and I took the usual tourist-y pictures and then began crossing the road to walk to our next destination.  That’s when I heard it: my name, whispered up against my right ear.  I stopped in the middle of the street, thinking it had been my friend’s husband.  I spun on my heels only to find him hand-in-hand with her, just to the left of where I had been crossing.  I asked, “Did you hear that?”  He shook his head and kept walking.

Something kept tugging at my insides.  The more historical sites we came across, the more insistent this feeling became.  The whole city hummed with it, this magic–both kitschy and real–and that warm energy propelled us visitors further and further in.  It wasn’t until we drove up a very unassuming alleyway that I realized where the epicenter of this powerful pull brought us.  There, at the top of a small incline, was the Salem Witch Trials Memorial.

There is a stillness to the air when you stand before it and just beyond its entrance are towering, ancient trees; sentinels protecting the names of those who died without justice.  There are inscriptions on the ground at your feet and they read of the last words uttered by the accused witches of Salem.  One in particular caught my attention:

I am wholly innocent of such wickedness…

Twenty benches protrude from stone walls, suspended and slowly being weathered by the elements.  Names are carved into them; the description of their execution marr the faces of stone and the date of their deaths resonate from the masonry.  People walk in silence, quietly reading and leaving flowers for those that died during the witch hunt.  It is a place of very heavy spiritual energy–whether or not it comes from the living who visit or the departed resting in the nearby cemetery is to be determined.  The short amount of time I spent there can only be described as surreal.

The first few names I came across were the last ones to be executed before logic and law intervened.  These victims died on my birthday, September 22nd.  The very thought caused me to shudder, but still I moved forward and observed a moment for each person at their bench.  Around I walked, counting down from twenty to one, and there before me was the memorial to the unusual and outspoken Bridget Bishop.  The red flowers at this small monument were fitting of her, as I had read previously that she often was seen wearing a crimson cloak about town.  People had misjudged her; she died because she was different.

The truth of the matter is this: none of these men and women were witches and yet they died because people feared what I am lucky enough to practice today.  And that bothered me.  It still does.  It stuck with me the entire way home as we road-tripped sixteen more hours.  I dreamed of the memorial, of Salem and its daunting trees and the fading headstones at the top of that hill.  On Monday, when I returned to work, I began researching and I came across something that just absolutely stunned me: Bridget Bishop died on June 10th, 1692.  I stood in front of her memorial on June 10th, 2017.  The weekend we visited–down to the day–was the anniversary of the first execution of the Salem Witch Trials that took place 325 years ago.

Fate and coincidence are two things that I struggle with on a day-to-day basis, but like my experience so many years ago at the ocean, I cannot help but feel that I was in the right place, at the right time.  I am just not quite sure what I am supposed to take away from this yet.  Am I supposed to research and write about it?  Am I supposed to share the stories of these victims?  Is this more of a reaffirmation that the rights I fight for are valid and important?  Is it that I just needed to see it on that day?  Or perhaps it was something so very simple: that I was called so that I could learn to evoke the spirit and strength of those people who chose to die rather than compromise their personal truths.

Begin Again - (Chapter I)

Thank you to @marlosbooknook and @mibasiamille for helping me edit and listening to my constant whining, really don’t know why you put up with me but thank you and ily

(Also a note: I’m not a doctor so i’m sorry if some of this is wrong I relied entirely on google and what I remember from my anatomy class. Plus Grey’s Anatomy but that’s not all accurate and a full out shit show at this point so let’s just ignore that)

And thank you all so much for your comments on the prologue, I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

Oxford, England
22nd September 1976

One moment. One tiny, insignificant moment, and his entire world shifted.

It was a head-on collision with a semi: the driver fell asleep at the wheel and veered right in front of him. Jamie didn’t have any time to react; it had all happened so fast.

It was more than likely that he wouldn’t remember any of it, due to the damage to his brain. But his life was no longer in his hands.

First responders arrived at the scene almost five minutes–five long minutes–after it happened. He was unconscious, lying in the middle of the road. The impact of the crash had ejected him from his seat, through the windshield, and onto the street.

The list of injuries were endless: from broken bones to open wounds. Some of the shards of glass from the windows had embedded themselves into his skin, but the rest was scattered on the concrete around him.

The biggest concern of the medical team was his head and spinal cord. It was impossible to tell what state they were in, given that the patient unconscious. They worked as fast as they could to get him on the stretcher and immobilized, while also being careful enough not to jostle him too much. Once he was secured inside the ambulance, he was rushed to the A&E.

He was only going to work. It was supposed to be like any other day.

None of this was supposed to happen.

They took him from the ambulance directly into the OR, assessing the damage and figuring out how to proceed from there.

Over the course of the next few months, he would be in that OR three times.

His condition was critical and he couldn’t be under anesthesia for very long, so the surgeries had to be spread out, allowing his body time to recover.

He sustained multiple injuries: right leg broken in two places, once in the left; multiple cracked and broken ribs; the right shoulder dislocated and the radius of the left arm severely fractured. A back full of glass, some pieces almost three inches long. Some internal bleeding in the abdomen, but luckily the medical team had found the source in time to stop it. If they hadn’t, it would have caused his brain to hemorrhage and, ultimately, could have ended his life.

There was some bleeding and swelling in his brain that they had gotten under control, but there was no telling the prognosis until he was conscious. Miraculously, however, his spinal cord had remained unharmed.

His right hand was the worst of it: the bones of his ring finger were almost completely shattered, the middle finger a compound fracture, the bone sticking obtrusively through the skin. They predicted that he wouldn’t regain full range of motion in that hand again, but with lots of physical therapy it could come close.

The first surgery was getting the bleeding in his abdomen and brain under control, as well as the swelling. Then, debriding his back and several other places on his body, followed by cleaning every wound to reduce the risk of infection.

Unfortunately, that was all they could do for the day.

The next day was setting the broken bones. Everything went relatively smooth until they got to his hand, which took the longest.

The very last surgery consisted entirely of applying the skin grafts to his back.

After a few weeks, he was able to breathe on his own. In the days that followed, they remained hopeful that he would recover. They waited for him to wake up, each day hoping that today would be the day.

But the days went by, and he never did.

Virgo in finding true love

Stay single until you meet someone who makes you less afraid of love – someone who is open and honest about their feelings, someone who’s not afraid to admit that they care, and someone who makes you feel supported and less alone in such an overwhelming world.
