I love the Alice Voltron art! May I try to make a cosplay for Hunk?

Hello Sweetheart!

Thank you ♥♥♥ and of course you can! If you do it and are not shy about it,please send me some photo of your cosplay or your cosplay facebook page if you have one! I’d love to see it!

Do you need a turn around for references? (I will do somes for lance, allura, keith and pidge since some peoples asked about it!)

Patterns, refs, and more+

So this con season I made myself Pidge and a Shiro paladin costumes to wear, with pretty good results. The worst part of it though was the amount of time I spent drafting patterns, so I figured this might be a good resource for anyone else looking to make armor in the future.

This is all based on my measurements (a 5′1″ average-ish build with… bigger thighs), so you’ll likely need to make adjustments to have this fit yourself, but hopefully this makes building your own cosplay a little easier. Materials, patterns and everything under the cut. Hope it helps!

(ps if anyone caught my text post about Newt’s stick, I had fun laughing about it when I tried to take pictures with the wand in my mouth. It resulted in me dropping it a couple of times. Resolution: don’t make jokes about Newt’s wand and don’t put [the wand] in your mouth)

I've had many people ask me if I sell cosplay prints.

It’s not something I’ve ever had the desire to do, I don’t really agree with cosplayers selling autographed pictures of themselves to make money off their fans.

But I think I’ve worked out a way to do this that I am more happy with.

If you would like an autographed cosplay picture send me a screen shot showing your name next to a donation you have made to charity, any charity of your choice and any amount you can do, and I will send you one autographed print for no charge. Just make sure to let me know which picture you’d like.

How I Made Isabela’s Boots

Welcome to the second installment of the “Isabela Cosplay? How?!” series. Today I will be breaking down the BEASTS that are Isabela’s boots. I say beasts because these bad boys ate up the majority of the cosplay construction time. That’s ok though because once again I want to stress how absolutely important her boots are. Whenever I run across an Isabela cosplayer the first thing I look at are how they did the boots. I don’t think two people have ever done them the exactly same way and I think that’s really neat. They all have different buckles, the cuffs are made out of different materials, some are real leather, some are faux, and now I’m rambling. The point is don’t stress too much about getting them exact!

BEFORE I GET STARTED!! I am by know means claiming to know what I am talking about! I am completely self taught in all things sewing related, so I guarantee there is probably a much better way to do all of this. I just wanted to explain how I did mine.

Anyway I will start with the reference pictures I used most while working on the beasts.

The top images are from Tumblr user thedosianimports  who has just a ton of high res reference pictures for dragon age! I can’t stress how important these pictures were to me during the construction process.

Immediately I knew when looking at these images that the best way to go with these beasts were not to make actual boots, but make them more like a pair of spats that went over a pair of base boots.

The first thing I do when working on any cosplay is determine what type of material would work best for this project. If I had the funds and tools I would have loved to have made these boots out of actual leather. Unfortunately when buying for this cosplay I was trying to recover from an expensive semester in college. So I took a trip to the local Joanns and browsed for a while. My search took me to a giant roll of dark brown upholstery vinyl that I immediately fell in love with. It was thick enough to support itself for the most part. I’ve noticed that a lot of Isabela cosplayers have a tough time keeping their boots up. Some use garters, some use tape, and some just let them do what they want. The main goal here is to be able to just put your boots on and be able to leave them. I hope that kind of makes sense.

Once I had my base material I started working on the pattern. I just made it out of some old white sheets I had lying around. It kind of ended up looking like this:

I measured the circumference of my legs at the top of where I wanted the boots to lie, around the knee, around the largest point of my calf, and my ankles with the base boots on. I put the mock up pieces together and sort of measured how big I wanted the knee hole to be. Sorry I can’t think of a better way to explain that. Don’t forget to add the seam allowance when your cutting out your spat pieces!!!

I started by sewing the two horizontal parts so that instead of four pieces I had two. After that I joined the pieces at the top thigh. At this point I put on the first invisible zipper. NOT THE THIGH ONE but the one going down the length of the shin. I sewed it in upside down.

I marked here where the invisible zippers were sewn in during construction.

Once the shin zipper was on I cut out a circular piece of the vinyl and just sort of pinned it into the knee whole till I thought it looked alright. This is probably the sloppiest part of my boots and I praise anyone who does it well.

Once I sewed the knee piece in, I topstitched everything I had with a thick white upholstery thread.

At this point I sewed up the back to right behind the knee and just pinned up the back of the thigh to make sure the fit was right.

I made adjustments where I thought they were needed, seam ripped the back and started on the dreaded buckles.

For the buckles I knew I personally wanted to go a little larger than what is strictly accurate. Just a personal preference sort of thing. I ended up buying 10 of these:

I liked the antiquey look and size. I also bought 10 matching “D” rings in the correct size.

At this point I was completely stumped and actually ended up walking away from the project for a couple weeks. I HATE BELTS!!!!! Once I calmed down and de-stressed, I sat down with my materials and just started playing. I came up with a weird solution that worked really well for me.

I sewed pieces of vinyl to brown craft foam. Each belt is two pieces: the one with the “D” rings, and the one with the buckles. The buckles are not in any way important to the fit of the boots. They are just there for show.

Breaking it down specifically I cut out the craft foam, spray glued the vinyl strips to the foam, and sewed them on with the white upholstery thread. All the belts were hand sewn to the boots because my machine couldn’t handle it. This is the part that took the longest BY FAR.

Once all the belts were on I sewed up the back, FINALLY INSTALLED THE LAST ZIPPER, and started patterning out the cuff. I don’t have a picture of the cuff pattern so it kind of looked like this:

Use your imaginations I suppose. Anyways I cut out two of those for each cuff, sewed them right sides together, turned them right sides out, and top stitched with my upholstery thread.

Once those were on I just hemmed the bottoms and they were done in time for the con.

They aren’t done at this point. I still need to add the buckles and belts to the base boots. I’m going to use the same method as the belts on the spats but instead of sewing them to the boots I’m just going to glue the belts on with Barge Cement.

And that’s all folks. If there is anything I forgot to mention or anyone has any questions PLEASE ASK ME! I loooove answering questions about my cosplays. I promise you can do it little Izzies! It’s easier than it looks.  If anyone uses any of my methods to make their Isabela boots PLEASE SEND ME PICTURES! I wanna see your awesome work guys!!!!

How I Made Isabela’s Jewelry

This is the first installment of my “Isabela Cosplay? How?!” series. I’m going to be breaking down the cosplay in the order of how I made it and this is sort of strategic on my part because in my opinion the two things that really set an Isabela cosplay apart from the others are the boots and the jewelry. I’m not trying to downplay all the other pieces it’s just these are the ones I personally took the most time to get right.

Let’s get this party started with the pictures I referred to most!

I got them from the Tumblr user thedosianimports who has just a ton of high res reference pictures for dragon age! I can’t stress how important these pictures were to me.

The first thing I do when working on any cosplay is determine what type of material would work best for this project. I originally intended on making all of this out of worbla, but due to the fact that it was Christmas time when I made this I was short on money. I ended up just using craft foam on these and I’m really glad I did.

The circles were the first part I worked on (earrings and chest piece). I started with a pattern out of paper and just kept trimming the circles down until they sat on my chest in a way I liked.

There is absolutely no rhyme or reason the the “writing” around the antlers. It’s completely random because I got super frustrated trying to make each piece match. I drew that directly on the craft foam with pencil. I then went over all the designs with white 3D puffy paint. There are small holes in the craft foam where the wire that holds all the pieces together goes.

I followed the same steps for the earrings, except that the base wasn’t foam for those. I just used a pair of circle earrings I already owned. This part of the necklace is separate from the choker. I put this part on first with a small gold necklace chain.

The next part I worked on was the choker. I actually didn’t make a pattern for it. I just cut a general shape out of foam and repeatedly put it around my neck and trimmed it down.

Once I had the shape right I needed to add the lovely details. The top and bottom edges I added strips of foam so they were slightly raised. Under the top part are ball necklace chains and the bottom is a curb necklace chain. Those are just hot glued on. I used some of the left over ball chain to encase the blue bead I got for the middle piece. The rest of the raised detailing is 3D puffy paint.

I hammered eyelets in the back after it was painted. I just lace it up with some leather cording. It’s not pretty but it gets the job done. (aww yisss sexy face in the mirror)

The sneaky snaaaakes~ are made out of tin foil and sculpey. I put on what I had of the necklace and molded the foil till it was the right shape. After that I rolled out the sculpey super thin, and wrapped it around the foil. The “neck” of the snake is two layers of sculpey, and the head is three. I also added little sculpey eyes. Then I just followed the directions for baking. After everything was painted I just hot glued the snakes directly onto the choker. I can only hope my snakes are phallic enough for the great captainallegra.

The labret piercing is literally a googly eye I spirit gummed to my face. I originally used a magnetic one, but that thing hurt like hell and I almost swallowed the magnet whenever I ate or drank. BAD MAGNET!

PAINTING!!! TIME! I used DecoArt Dazzling Metallics paint in the color Splendid Gold for absolutely everything.

The weathering is just black acrylic paint brushed on with various sized paint brushes and wiped with a paper towel.

Here is the finished product.

I think that’s about it. If there is anything I forgot to mention or anyone has anymore questions feel free to throw them my way. Just in case anyone doesn’t think they are capable of doing this, it was my first time working with craft foam, sculpey, and 3D paint and I think it came out pretty great. I promise it’s easier than you think! If anyone uses any of my methods to make their Isabela Jewelry PLEASE SEND ME PICTURES! I wanna see your awesome work guys!!!!

Here are some FAQs I got from tumblr!

Q: Where is Metapod?

A: I started this little project form a Korean web site, when I first started it, I made couple of rules to my self, one of it was that I can skip one gijinka for each 20 gijinka, so I used my first skip-pass to Metapod.

but after that, I realized I don’t really need the skip-pass. without it was more fun and challenging. so that is why the Metapod is not in my list.

but I am thinking of making a rough illustration book or a e-book. (when I finish all the 1st generation pokedex) so when that comes out, there will be Metapod in it

Q: Can I cosplay your design?
A: I’m always more than welcome people cosplaying my designs! just in two conditions,!

first, when you post it online, always put my name and my tumblr address with it and say the design is from me

second, please please please send me the photo or link of your cosplay T,T I want to see it!!!

If you keep these two!! go ahead !! I mean please do !!

Q: Why do you change gender between the different evolution?
A: My pokemon’s gijinka are not necessary evolving to one-another I thought of drawing them as one Pokemon evolving, but it just takes out lots of fun.

so some of they are one pokemon evolving, some aren’t!

(I think of them as same race, but different individual)

Q: Can you draw my favorite pokemon?
A: Sorry, I don’t do requests

I’m doing in order of the pokedex. so if you wait, you’ll see your favs

Q: Will you draw Mega version

A: so far, I don’t have plane to do Mega ..yet

I might do it after I finish all 6th gen…(I’m pretty sure the new gens are going to pop out,,,who knows)or whenever I get to make books, I’ll just draw as a special addition and draw the Megas from each generation but as right now, no megas ;( sorry

Q: what equipment/ program/ brush do you use?

A: I use Cintiq, Photoshop CC, customized brush I got from work.(and I checked, they aren’t going to sell it)

Huff & Puff Cigarette box

I made this cigarette box for my cosplay, but I want it to share with you guys. :) I tried to make it with my Illustrator skills and I like it. The ingame box is different (cigarettes wrapped in paper, that’s wrapped in another paper), but i made classic box. You should fit in 20 normal “small” cigarettes (Marlboro, Viceroy, P&G, Ronson…) I will be more than happy if you send me your cosplays with boxes. The box may have problem with closing but that depends on which paper you’ll use. Sorry, my printer run out of colour so i had to shoot it B&W.

PDF to print: x

External image

If you’re smoker/someone from your close range use this part from the box, it holds better than the paper cutout i made. It makes your box closed when you don’t have enough cigarettes. And you can disassemble the box to see how to get it back together if you didn’t understand my upper quick version.
