When Bucky first joined the Avengers he was stand-offish and didn’t talk to anybody. Then Y/N came along, and you brought out a new light in Bucky that hasn’t been seen since the 40’s. He saw himself in you when he first rescued you from Hydra. Lost, scared, and damaged after what they did to you, just like he was. He felt protective of you because you were so young. He hated leaving you but he was tracking the horrible people that decided to capture and torture a child. To torture the one good thing in his life. But he had to do this for you.
Y/N was in the living room playing with your toys, not paying attention to the world around you when Bucky walked into the room. As if sensing his arrival Y/N head whipped around and spotted the super soldier.
“Bucky!!” You squealed in delight as you got up and ran to him, wrapping your arms around his waist.
He chuckled at you. You were like a daughter to him ever since he had rescued you from Hydra two years ago. You had special abilities that they wanted so they took you when you were 1 and kept you ever since. You were now 5 and full of life. Still learning to control your ability of telekinesis you grew attached to Bucky and the two of you were joint at the hip.
He picked you up and carried you to your room that was right next to his. He set you on the bed and looked into your beautiful (e/c) eyes.
“So Y/N, I’m going to be gone for a little bit because I’m going on a mission. I’ll be gone a little longer than last time so be a good girl for me.”
The things around the room started to tremble. You hated when he left you. You felt scared and alone like when you were with the scary men who hurt you. He was your safe haven. The only one you trusted. Tears started to form in your eyes as you tried to get away from Bucky. It broke his heart.
“No! I don’t want you to leave!” you cried. The lamp on the night stand flew into the other wall. Bucky sighed and hugged you.
“Y/N, I have to go.”
“No!” You wiggled of his arms and ran out the room. You ran down the hall and around the corner to your hiding spot where no one knew where you were. In an air vent in the back of the hall way closet. You sat down and cried till you couldn’t cry anymore. You were so scared because the last time Bucky went away, he got hurt and you didn’t want him to get hurt again or leave you forever.
Finally drying your tears you got up and walked out of the closet. You walked to Bucky’s room because that’s where you knew he would be. You knocked on his door with your small hands, and with a small voice you asked “Can I come in please?”
The door opened and Bucky looked down at you with sad eyes. “Of course.” He said allowing you to come in. You hopped on his bed and sat there swinging your legs, looking at you shoes.
“I’m scared” you finally said with a small voice.
“Oh Y/N, you don’t have to be scared. You will be fine. You’re safe here.” He said misunderstanding your words.
“No I’m scared for you. You got hurt last time and I was so scared.” You said still looking at your shoes. He crouched down in front of you, putting his hand under your chin forcing you to look at him in the eyes.
“Y/N, I will be fine. Last time was an accident and it won’t happen again.”
“Of course, I promise.” You attacked him with a hug and buried your face into the crook of his neck. You two sat there like that for a few minutes before Bucky had to finish packing while you sat there on his bed.
When he was done, you hopped off the bed and grabbed his hand while his other hand gripped his duffle bag. You guys made your way to the hanger where Bucky would leave you.
When you got there you saw that Steve, Nat, and Clint were there. Whenever they saw you and Bucky together, it warmed their hearts. He was always so kind and gentle with you. It was obvious he loved you and you loved him with you little 5 year old heart.
Steve and Clint were here to say good bye to Bucky and Nat and wish them good luck on the mission. In saying their goodbyes you never let go of Bucky’s hand. When they were done Clint left and Nat got on the Quinjet. Steve walked down the hall and waited.
Bucky crouched down to be eye level with you. Your eyes started to well with tears but you held your head high. You wanted him to be proud of you so you had to be strong. He had a sad smile on his face.
“Y/N, I love you. I want you to know that you are my favorite person in the whole world. Steve is a good person who is going to take care of you while I’m away. Can you be good for him?” he asks. You nod your head yes. Your tears start to leak out the sides of your eyes and he wipes them away. Tears of his own starting to form in his eyes.
“When you get back, can we get some ice cream?” you asked in a small voice. He laughs in awe of you. You were the toughest kid that he knew and wanted to know if you could get ice cream with him.
“Of course, right when I get back.” you smiled and hugged him tight.
“Bucky it’s time to go.” Nat said from behind him.
Bucky stands up and lets go of your hand and walks on the jet. You stand there and watch the doors close. The jet lifts of the ground and takes off. You stand there and watch the jet till it was out of sight. Steve walks up behind you and puts his hand on your shoulder.
“Come on Y/N, time to leave.” Turning you around and taking your hand, leading you away from the hanger.
Bucky walked off the jet and made his way towards his room. The mission was a success, but that didn’t make him feel any better. There were good men that lost their lives and that always puts a weight on his shoulders. The elevator reached his floor and all he wanted to take a shower and pass out. It was late and he was tired. He reached his room and opened the door the light was off and he turned it on. What he saw made him smile. Your small frame was curled up in a ball in his bed sound asleep. As quietly as possible he got a change of clothes and made his way to the bathroom to take a shower. When he was done he got dressed and looked at you again. Thought about how young you were and that it want fair for you to lose your innocence at your age and how you were the one thing in his life that was a constant.
He pulled the covers back and scooped you up into his arms. He carried you across the hall to your room and laid you down in your bed. When he tried to let go you clutched onto him. He peeled your hands off his shirt and pulled your covers up.
“Please don’t go. Stay with me.” You said in a tired voice. Bucky stopped and looked at you as you patted the spot next to you with your little hands. Sighing, he walked around the bed and got in. you instantly cuddled up next to him, clutching onto him like your little 5 year old might would keep him here with you forever. You guys stayed like this till you fell asleep because everything was good in the world because you had your Bucky back.
