self tanner

anonymous asked:

what brand is the self tanner you tried? and how did it go

St. Tropez (much cheaper on Amazon than on makeup sites like Ulta and Sephora)

worked very well! super easy and turned out a nice subtle glow (I was already tan to begin with so the results weren’t drastic, which I liked). I feel like going slightly darker helps even out skintone/diminish red spots. I don’t know why I never considered self tanner until just now. it’s such a good way to get a natural healthy glow without damaging your skin

« I just can’t understand when — and no offense — people have to wear makeup all the time, and they’ll say, ‘Oh, you can sleep with a tinted moisturizer or a self tanner on your face and you can wake up.’ For me, I just think that’s not my vibe, plus I do breakout. I don’t know if it’s bad advice, I just think it’s kind of to each their own. For me, I can’t really sleep with things on my body or tinted things just because I get worried. It’s not my vibe. »

My Top Four Self Tanners

A few years ago I made a discovery that would change my life forever: self tanner. I had spent high school in southern California where everyone was effortlessly sun-kissed and while I did achieve a nice glow from time to time, it was never easy. It involved lots of burning, tanning, and even slathering on oil sans SPF. Yikes. Not my most brilliant days.

I have since repented for my foolish youth and stopped going in direct sun altogether. (A whopping sunburn my junior year of college was the final straw and I while won’t go into all the painful details, let’s suffice it to say it was rather unpleasant.) Finally realizing my skin was not meant for tanning the natural (and unsafe) way, I began to explore the world of the faux glow. It’s truly liberating: no tan lines or painful redness, even color in just a few hours—why doesn’t everyone do this? Over the years, I’ve tried lots of products, (not all self tanners are created equal, believeyoume), but these are my current faves, in no particular order.

Clarins Self Tanning Milk ($32.50): My first foray into self tanning was with Clarins and that was completely by luck. This has been my go-to for years because it goes on easily and streak-free and it provides the most incredible, natural color.

Bare Escentuals Beautifully Bronzed Deluxe 2-piece Edition ($46.14): I got this self tanner and brush set in a gift bag a few weeks ago and I was a little hesitant. The formula is really dark and I am so accustomed to applying with my hands. That said, I gave it a shot on my legs and not only does the color look great, but the brush was really thorough and an awesome way to keep my palms from getting more color than they should.

Makeup Product: Tarte Brazilliance Self- Tanner

My review: 8/10. When I first applied the self-tanner to my skin, I loved the end result color. My skin did not appear to have an orange color and to be sure of that, I checked my skin under natural lighting, my bathroom lighting, and florescent lighting. I honestly thought I would turn into an orange oompa lumpa  (also because I’m under 5ft tall…) but surprisingly, my skin looked to be a fairly dark, golden tan. Needless to say, I was very satisfied with how the self- tanner looked on my skin tone (which is more on the pale side). On the other hand, I wasn’t so fond of the application mit that it came with. It slipped out of my hand several times and it wasn’t the best for giving me even application. However, the mit is better than applying the tanner with a plastic glove (I tried this and it made my skin look like blotchy).

Overall, I think this is a great product if you’re trying to have a nice tan  skin tone and not an orange one. Perfect for the summer!

If you’re looking for a really natural, not smelly, vegan, gluten, and paraben free then you HAVE to try this out. It’s amazing! It doesn’t leave streaks, and doesn’t make you look like you have skin problems when it starts to wear off. I use the medium skin tone one, even though I’m fair skin toned, because I find fair toned tanners turn you yellow, so you look like you have liver failure. And did I mention this doesn’t turn you orange??

There’s a lot to love about the sun.

It gives you the opportunity to wear your cute new SUNglasses and open your SUNroof.

It brews tea to delicious southern perfection.

Restaurants and bars open their patio’s for even more social square footage.

It makes it too hot for men to wear shirts (can be good or bad).

Not to mention: dresses, wedges, pedicures, bangles and bikinis.

Whats not to love about the glorious sun? Try UV damage, skin cancer, and pre-mature wrinkles. No fun. Whats the solution? A tan in a tube of course!!!

My choice pick is Victoria’s Secret Tinted Self-tan lotion. It goes on with a gorgeous bronze tint that prevents streaking - and has a delicious summer smell. (Ever have someone know you’ve been self-tanning from the smell instead of the bronze? - eek!) I actually got a compliment about how nice I smelled wearing this!

The tan lasts for about 5 days - mix a drop in with your facial moisturizer for a daily glow boost too!
