GHOST STORIES OF AN ANTIQUARY Cover Art/Treatment by Francesco Francavilla
The great folks at SELF MADE HERO, the UK based publisher of so many great books, invited me to provide a cover for their latest comic anthology, Leah Moore and John Reppion’s adaptation of M.R. James short ghost stories. Gothic era Ghost stories? Needless to say, they didn’t have to ask me twice ;)
When designing the collection we first thought of what ‘Self Made’ stands for. Being 'Self Made’ means rising to the top from the bottom by yourself, and so we thought of mountains and climbing your way to the top. Therefore, when naming the collection we thought of a few names connected with mountains and such. We then came across Kala Patthar, which is a place in Nepal which is said to give the best view of the top of Mount Everest. Metaphorically speaking, seeing the top and rising to it. Therefore, we decided to call it the 'Kala Collection’.
