secret express

You know, I keep seeing posts talking about what a horrible liar Kara is. But the fact of the matter is Kara is probably one of the best liars I’ve ever seen on TV.

But wait. The entirety of National City knows Kara’s Supergirl, you may be thinking. How can she be a good liar? But that’s the thing—her secret isn’t that Kara Danvers is Supergirl.

Kara’s only been Supergirl for the past year or so. But still, she’s been lying for well over a decade about who she is—and successfully. The thing about Clark—and they’ve addressed this in season 1—is he may as well be human. They’ve talked about this with Astra, and then they’ve shown this Myriad. Because in Clark’s head, he’s not Kryptonian. His powers make him stand apart, but when he solar flares, his most likely thought process is I’m human now. To Kara, it would be I’m now powerless. And there is a difference. Krypton is much more technologically advanced, yes, but that is not the only difference between Earth and Krypton.

I cannot emphasize enough Kara is not human. Kara’s alienness isn’t contingent upon her abilities—superpowers or no superpowers, she’s always Kryptonian.

And sure, plenty of people probably have figured out that Kara is Supergirl—but that’s pretty much it. What people know about Kara’s past is that she’s Superman’s cousin, and that’s it. And clearly, Kara is younger than Superman—most people aren’t going to think “yup. She was probably put in suspended animation in some way.” I mean the conspiracy theorists might, but not really the overwhelming people on Earth. (listen. You gotta draw a line somewhere)

Most people are going to think ‘Occam’s Razor’—that Kara’s mom, or dad, or both, got off Krypton at the same time as Superman, and a decade later had Kara, and that there’s a very good chance that Supergirl is half human, or at the very least born on Earth and raised as a human. It’s what’s logical, isn’t it? The simplest answer is usually the correct one.

But she’s not. English isn’t her first language, and she grew up with a very different culture, undergone a host of different experiences that most humans couldn’t even imagine. Hell, she wasn’t even born the same way—Clark was the first natural Kryptonian birth in years. That means Kara was not. Kara was born via the Codex—really, if James was surprised at the depths of Kara’s anger over losing Krypton (back in season 1—you know, where Kara got to have more than 3 emotions), or how surprised he was to find out what Kara’s family crest really meant, how surprised would they be at everything she’d decide to just stop hiding?

Because Kara is so very good at hiding. Kara Danvers is real, yeah, but it’s someone she had to build. One of the very subtle, but telling moments happened in the first episode of season two, when Kara and Clark were getting off the elevator, and Clark had a clumsy moment where he ran into someone and knocked all their things to the ground. After he apologized and helped the person pick up their things, Kara asked him “wow, you really have the whole clumsy thing down, don’t you?” “Oh no, that was real.” Key word here is thing. As in, I have a routine I go through to distract people and to seem harmless. And this is just the tip of the iceberg, of routines and acts Kara must go through to make herself seem human. Kara Danvers is real, but part of that identity is a persona she constantly embodies–clumsy, absentminded, horrible at math and science, cute but not drop dead gorgeous, a bit quirky always happy, harmless, invisible, human.

And so it’s not surprising that all of these people are figuring out her identity, but that’s not really what Kara’s held close to her chest, not like Clark. Kara’s anger and loss and just general alienness–that is her secret. This is what she’d confide, this is what she’d have to truly trust someone to reveal. This is what the culmination of trust would look like, trust in Cat or Lena or Maggie (or hell even Barry, who sure knows Kara is an alien but. He doesn’t really seem to grasp the implications of that–oh i didn’t realize Kara got mad).

For 10 years, Kara kept herself hidden, keep herself secret. But Kara’s secret isn’t that she’s Supergirl, a human with powers. Kara’s secret is that she is angry and mad and hurting. But most of all, Kara’s secret is that she is not human.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 1st house: the Ascendant sign’s manifestation will be heavily hindered/reduced. Very insecure, perhaps prone to self-hatred. Introverted. Identity and life path may change a lot. Likely more self-aware than most others with the same Rising. Tend to be very interesting to others, but don’t feel that way. Worldview is unstable & usually subjective but insightful.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 2nd house: have no idea what they’re worth until they take the time to study their personal values; before that happens, they tend not to have a solid foundation from which to operate & base their decisions/will on whims or temporary mindsets. May have many regrets because of this. Fluctuating & unconventional finances/possessions.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 3rd house: tend to be quiet, considerate, and thoughtful. May prefer to observe rather than participate. Acutely aware of flaws in mindsets/thoughts/statements, especially their own; analytical and clever. Shy, may be unwilling to share thoughts. May tend to talk in circles without getting to the point. Erratic productivity and mental activity.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 4th house: prone to withdraw, extremely introverted and introspective. Self-reliant, psychologically strained but independent nonetheless. Many intrinsic issues that they usually make an effort to work out. Family/upbringing is the source of much inner trouble. Possibly emotionally repressed, or they express emotion unconventionally.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 5th house: poor self-confidence, hate standing out. High standards for themselves. Fear not being received well so they may water themselves down or put up a facade. Self-censure is a big problem, and so is self-denial. Pleasures/enjoyment are stressful & cause inner tug-of-war so they may avoid it altogether. Prefer to experience pleasure in private.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 6th house: easily distracted and prone to procrastination. Tend to prefer working alone as it’s difficult to cooperate and collaborate. Can be lazy and unproductive. Need a lot of motivation and reward. May fall ill often. Mental health may be poor. Anxious. The part of the body associated with the planet or sign on the cusp may have many issues.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 7th house: usually able to acknowledge the parts of themselves they dislike/reject, thus they tend to be relatively self-aware. Very inhibited, may be hypocritical. Potentially the type to back out of commitments, present ultimatums, blackmail/manipulate, and “negotiate” their way through life in an unfair manner. Potentially repressive and superficial.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 8th house: particularly secretive; expression is inhibited. Tear themselves apart looking for answers to their problems; can be blind to things in their life that will help them, may ignore them on purpose out of fear, resentment, or self-contempt. Wise, insightful, extremely intuitive. Inner world is out of control so they’re excessively controlled on the outside.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 9th house: fleeing is a natural defense mechanism. Easily feels suffocated and the first instinct is to disappear from the immediate situation. Feel lost intellectually because nothing really makes sense to them or clicks; tend to have unconventional but intriguing opinions. Restless on the inside. Can’t settle on beliefs; can’t agree with anyone.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 10th house: feel lost in the world; feel as if the world has no room for them. Unsure of who they truly aspire to be, and that trickles down into their personal life, so they tend to be generally indecisive. Feel weak or inadequate. May have too many ambitions or a lack of them. Lack of belief in themselves. Limit their opportunities with underperformance.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 11th house: usually have issues making & keeping friends. Difficult to connect to in a lasting way, despite their efforts to integrate. Uncomfortable with fully “belonging” to a community, or attaching to dreams/ideals. May feel lost and disconnected, possibly excluded. Sometimes prone to withdrawal. Usually limit/filter their personality when socializing.

Retrograde planet(s) in the 12th house: generally present an image of themselves to others that differs greatly from who they are on the inside. Unsure of themselves, may be either extremely self-aware or extremely self-unaware depending on the sign/planet. Rarely seen or treated the way they should be. Painfully repressive but they can’t avoid the truth about themselves.

May apply to houses with their ruler in retrograde.

These descriptions also count for the nodal axis (if retrograde) to a lesser degree because retrogrades often relate to lessons that need to be learned in order for the native to “evolve” as a person, which is a big theme of the nodes.

Carnations (Masterlist)

It’s a simple concept: Students can buy flowers for each other at the carnation sale. Red flowers are for love, pink flowers are for friendship, and white flowers are for expressing secret admiration.

A carnation fundraiser, an iota of possibility, and a longtime secret crush on your hot best friend - what could go wrong?

Tell me more about the Paladin Training AU! What does the rest of the team think about golden boy Shiro, and how does this effect them when they form Voltron for the first time? Tell me more about the first time they decided training and dark history be damned, they're going to do this Voltron thing their way. Tell me about how the team decided THEIR Shiro, (not the Shiro conditioned by training, quiet and submissive before the command, but the Shiro who rebels and protects) is the one they 1/2

2/2 will follow till the end of days. Tell me how these strangers became the team that will save the universe.

(So I originally wrote this from Lance’s POV in tumblr and then lost all of it when my computer suddenly reset.  This version ended up better anyway.  It doesn’t answer a lot of your questions, but they also weren’t strangers in this AU.  They were raised together.  But here’s that story anyway.

Based on this original post)

The short of it was: nothing was the same since Zarkon betrayed them.

The short of it was: Hunk wished things could go back to how they’d been.

Those first few days right after had been terrifying.  The panic, the yelling, the strained atmosphere.  Hunk had wanted to stay in his room for it, but he wasn’t allowed to, and even if he was, Lance would have dragged him out.  For the longest time, they’d had no idea what anyone was talking about.  There were just clipped commands, being told to sit and wait and be good, while horrifying words like ‘rogue’ and ‘attack’ and ‘death toll’ were thrown around, just barely within hearing.

All of them had been put into one room and while they weren’t told not to leave, the implication was strong.  Immediately, Keith turned to Shiro, trying to get him to spill.  In hindsight, Hunk didn’t know why they’d all thought Shiro would know, except that he was older and he was going to be their leader someday, and he always helped with the answers to their nightly school work, so maybe he knew this too.

Shiro hadn’t.

“I’m sorry, I’m sure they’ll tell us soon,” he told them, hands up in placation, and at the time he hadn’t noticed, but when he thought back, Hunk thought Shiro looked just as scared as the rest of them.

That look only got stronger when one of their instructors burst in.  “Shiro,” he called, voice icy, and Shiro stared back, eyes wide.  Shiro always seemed so much older than them, but in that moment he’d been very young looking.  “You are to come with me.”

It wasn’t even an order.  It was a demand.  It was a threat.

“Just me?” Shiro asked, and ducked his head at the immediate glare.  “Yes, sir.”  Iverson’s hand clamped down on his upper arm, rough in a way none of them usually saw, as Paladins to be.

He was dragged away, and Shiro cast another wild look over his shoulder.  “I’ll be back soon,  Stay calm.”

Then he was gone.

I don’t really know what this is, but I couldn’t shake the idea so… Here’s a little post 5x20 thing.

“Oliver, man, I really think you need to go to the hospital,” Diggle said as soon as they’d gotten both Oliver and Felicity safely back upstairs into the old campaign office.

“I’m fine,” Oliver argued, moving a little unsteadily on his feet before bracing himself against a desk.

The bloody gash on the back of Oliver’s head from what was probably a pretty spectacular fall down an elevator shaft told a different story, but before John could argue Felicity was already at Oliver’s side.

“You hit your head so hard you passed out, Oliver,” she said, wrapping a hand around his wrist. “Which was not a fun couple of minutes, let me tell you. I thought…”

She trailed off, lip quivering slightly, and John didn’t even have to see Oliver’s reaction—the way his shoulders slumped, expression softening—to know that the argument was over.

“You should go, too,” he said softly, placing a hand on top of her’s on his wrist. “Your chip…”

“It’s probably fine,” Curtis interjected, causing everyone to look in his direction where he was standing beside Rene and Dinah. “As long as it’s working again it shouldn’t… be… much of a…”

John swung his gaze back around in time to see Oliver glaring at the younger man. When he turned back around Curtis’s eyes had gone wide and he looked appropriately nervous.

“But you should probably still go get checked out,” Curtis said, gesturing to Felicity. “Better to be safe than sorry, right? And you do have a head wound, too, so it probably wouldn’t be a bad thing to…”

John was almost impressed by Curtis’s Felicity-worthy babble, but his friends had clearly already tuned the man’s ramble out, lost in that place where only the two of them existed. He felt his lips pull up in a smirk as he watched them interacting with each other in a way he hadn’t seen in far too long.

“I’ll go as long as you go,” Oliver murmured after a few moments.

Felicity smiled, eyes crinkling in amusement, before she winced. Her hand shot up, gently touching the wound at her hairline. “Yeah,” she agreed with a nod, “we should both go. Probably gonna need a professional to do the stitches if I don’t want to end up looking like Rene.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Rene asked.

“You know, cause of your…” Curtis chuckled, gesturing to his own eye to indicate the scar on Rene’s face.

Oliver laughed, moving away from the desk and gently throwing an arm around Felicity’s shoulders when she gestured for him to use her as a crutch, though it didn’t escape John’s notice that Oliver seemed a lot steadier than when they’d first pulled him out of the bunker.

“What’s that supposed to mean about my face?” Rene asked again.

Curtis eyes went wide and Dinah stepped up, patting him on the shoulder, but John didn’t stick around to see how that argument ended. Instead, he followed Oliver and Felicity out to his car.

“Everything looks okay,” Dr. Schwartz said, looking at the chart in front of her. “But you really need to stop getting concussions.”

“That’s what I keep telling him.”

Oliver turned at the unexpected voice to see Felicity leaning against the doorframe, ankles crossed. A bandage covered the wound on her forehead she’d received when the EMP had knocked them both across the bunker.

Oliver wasn’t sure why he suddenly felt a rush of relief at seeing her. It could have been because she was clearly okay, despite Adrian’s attack, or it could have just been that she’d bothered to come find him at all. It was probably both.

The warm smile on her face was definitely a relief after everything that went down with Helix and then Adrian attacking them in the bunker. Oliver had ended up admitting things about himself to her that he’d never so much as considered telling another human being, especially not her. But, somehow, it seemed to be exactly what they’d needed. He’d felt like a weight had been lifted as they spoke. The wall that they’d built up between them finally toppling as he confessed his biggest fears to her. And her being here in his hospital room, that smile on her face, despite everything, only proved what Oliver already knew to be true.

Felicity Smoak was remarkable.

“Are you okay?” he asked quietly.

“Oh!,” she laughed, gesturing to the bandage on her head. “Yeah. Didn’t even take many stitches.”

“I know in your line of work it can be unavoidable sometimes, but you should be cautious. Both of you,” Dr. Schwartz said and Oliver saw Felicity stiffen from the corner of his eye.

Her eyes went round in surprise that the doctor knew their secret, before her expression melted into a kind smile.

“We could definitely stand to take a few less risks,” she agreed, moving over towards the bed Oliver was leaning against. “I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to him,” she said, voice soft and earnest as her gaze met his.

Like always, everything started to slip away, leaving nothing but the blue of Felicity’s eyes. He remembered a time when that sensation had scared him, but now it felt like coming home. He’d missed it.

“I’ll go get your paperwork started,” Dr. Schwartz said, interrupting the moment. She moved for the door with a knowing smile. “When you’re ready.”

Oliver nodded before glancing down at his feet, suddenly more uncertain than he’d felt in a long time. He wanted to reach out, to cup Felicity’s face in his palms and make sure she was really alright. But, despite the warmth that had suddenly replaced the epic cold front their relationship had been experiencing, they weren’t there yet. They might never be there, Oliver admitted to himself, feeling his heart sink.

“So…” she said and he glanced up to see her smiling. “You ready to go home?”

The words cut through him. They were everything he wanted to hear, but he knew she hadn’t meant them the way they’d sounded. Which she realized half a second too late, judging by the suddenly nervous look in her eye. But when she spoke, it wasn’t exactly the awkward babble Oliver was expecting.

“I mean, my home. You know, the loft,” she clarified, then took a deep breath and he watched as her blue eyes filled with a steely kind of resolve. “I think you should come home with me.”

Oliver’s mouth dropped open and he could only stare at her dumbly for a moment. Long enough that she heard what she’d said.

“Not” —she gestured wildly in front of her— “like that! I just meant…” She paused, regaining her composure. “You’ve been staying in the bunker and now that Chase has compromised it… I don’t want you staying there.” Her eyes went soft as she smiled. “Stay in the guest room. That way I know your safe. Besides” —she grinned— “I know for a fact the bed in the guest room is more comfortable than that cot you’ve been sleeping on.”

Oliver couldn’t help the smirk that crossed his face, he really couldn’t. “Oh, do you?”

Felicity’s cheeks flushed, but she didn’t back down. She stared up at him, eyebrows lifted pointedly, until he finally nodded.

“Okay”.

Killian’s fingers never leave Emma’s skin. It’s as though he can’t decide where he wants to touch her, first brushing her hair from her forehead before his knuckles caress her cheek, drifting down over her collarbone before sliding under the covers to lightly trace nonsense patterns across her bare back.

It’s one of Emma’s favorite things about him, how he becomes so soft in intimate moments like these. Even before he remembered her it was the same, the way he let her hold his hand, the way he kissed her back when she took a chance and pulled him to her. She closes her eyes and rests her cheek to his chest, falling into the feeling, the only sounds his steady heartbeat under her ear and the faint crackling of the fire.

She touches him too, her thumb painting circles over his chest before sliding her hand over his shoulder and down his arm. He sighs when she wraps her fingers around his blunted wrist and she loves that about him too, that he’s vulnerable enough to let her do this. Someday she’ll work up the courage to ask if anyone had touched his bare wrist before her. She suspects not, but it’s such a delicate thing, the way he feels about it. Sometimes it’s all bravado but in others she can see the insecurity there, all the subtle little looks and playful self-deprecating comments he thinks she doesn’t notice. In the meantime she settles for grabbing his hook whenever she can, for holding his wrist like it’s nothing because it truly is for her, for making him forget and telling him she loves him.
