Full Name: Nadine Charlotte Jackson
Gender and Sexuality: Female/ Heteroromantic/Bisexual
Pronouns:She/ Her
Ethnicity/Species: She is of Secotan, African, and European ancestry
Birthplace and Birthdate: Along the Cape Fear River in the 16th century *She’s older than she looks/comes across* Her birthday is the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence May 20th, which is on her state flag.
Guilty Pleasures: Krispy Kreme donuts, BoJangles, BBQ
Phobias: She is terrified of seeing people beheaded, due to her colonial history. Nadine also has a fear of being abandoned as well that stems from her childhood. She tends to love having a person or pet to hold onto to ease her worries.
What They Would Be Famous For: BASKETBALL! Her cooking, musical talents, fantastic arm flails.
What They Would Get Arrested For: Treason to the crown of England, moonshine consumption during prohibition, protesting injustice in political movements, possibly skinny dipping. She does have a kink where she likes to make love in the great outdoors, which I’d say is a maybe on getting caught?
OC You Ship Them With: She’s had a few states hit on her in the past but no one thus far.
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Rob, and any VA oc who gets their friendship/affection toward her shot down. *Gets Creeper B Gone out and sprays it around*
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: The Color Purple, Dirty Dancing, and just about anything funny/romantic. As for books, she tends to like Thomas Wolfe, Nicholas Sparks, Maya Angelou, and studying the Bible for meanings from time to time.
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Gory horror films/books, she also doesn’t really like any works that are pornographic in nature because…well she gets embarrassed for one thing, and she doesn’t find that kind of depiction of sex to be natural/realistic in her mind, nor based on her own experiences.
Talents and/or Powers: She’s a good singer, and she’s very talented with a guitar or banjo. She’s not a bad cook either, though she tends to get overshadowed by the other Southerners in that regard, unless we’re talking about BBQ. And man she plays a mean game of basketball!
Why Someone Might Love Them: She just is what she is, and I also think people like that she tends to bounce back from some economic, political scenarios that might doom a lot of other states. And she tends to want to be nice to people, unless they give her a reason not to be.
Why Someone Might Hate Them: She’s a real cynic deep down. I mean her self-loathing is downright poisonous at its worst. Just read or search for “North Carolina Sucks” on here or elsewhere. Some complaints are legitimate/deserved, and others… the venom! She also tends to wait too long to deal with a big problem until it’s already past being a crisis. And let’s face it, she can self-medicate sometimes to temporarily alleviate a bad situation.
How They Change: As a colony we were one heck of a disaster! When you start off that bad, you only have one way to go: Up! Though I think on the way up we may have gone off to the side, or gone around in circles, but we’re trying. I hope? I think? Currently NC is also trying to decide what old traditions she needs to keep and what to throw away. Some of them mirror SC’s issues with racism, police brutality, corrupt politicians, but others are along the lines of “Is it ignorant if I talk Southern or not?” “How do I keep a balance of resources between my rural and urban areas so no counties fall into disrepair/drastic inequity?” “How do I adjust from being very rural with a very small population, to more urban with a bigger population? Do I want to?”
Why You Love Them: I just love how she’s managed to find a way to persevere despite not having the best of childhoods/adolescences. I also love how she’s not as passive-aggressive as some of the other Southern ladies. She’s friendly, but not afraid to tell you off if you push her buttons too much. And I love doing her arm flails. :’) *And I’ll pick up on TN at a later point because I’m getting tired right now*
