Pteranodon Pterror

Conceptual painting depicting the original ending for The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The third act of the movie was originally to include much longer and more elaborate scenes involving the raptors as they persue the surviving humans through the InGen worker village, after which the survivors reach the rescue helicopter only to be attacked by a pair of the territorial pterosaurs on takeoff, depicted here by Lost World concept artist Sean Hargreaves.

Full scale models and sets of the worker village were constructed, animatronic and CGI pteranodons were designed and built, but Steven Spielberg scrapped this segment just weeks prior to filming – reducing the role of the raptors in the film and eliminating the pteranodon scene completely – in favor of the San Diego ending.
