Twelve beings who one should not sit next to on the train unless there are absolutely no other seats

1. Nicholas Hawksmoor, or for that matter any other currently-deceased architects

2. Carnivorous earpod vines

3. Shark whisperers, if your route takes you past the sea

4. People who are currently being the protagonist in an action film

5. Any of the four commuters of the apocalypse, particularly War, who has a tendency to cause fights to break out

6. Killer robots, particularly if they are labelled as such

7. Upwardly mobile buddleia bushes

8. Anyone who is asleep and having a dream that they are on a train, in case that you should find yourself only a figment in their dream to be snuffed out when they wake

9. Other trains which have decided to try and get a seat on this one for laughs

10. Negative people; that is to say, those made of antimatter where it may well be that accidentally brushing legs with them causes a planet-obliterating explosion. Feel free to sit next to people who are merely a bit down

11. Anything that admits to having an insatiable appetite for human flesh

12. The great god Pan; in this case it might also be wise to get off at the next stop too

Mono Blue Devotion

While watching the Pro Tour Dragons of Tarkir, I began to think about mono blue, remembering the recent printing of Shorecrasher Elemental and Counterspell, ehm, of course I mean Silumgar’s Scorn. The old days of the Return to Ravnica/Theros standard mono blue deck are long gone, but I could not help wonder about its viability now, perhaps there is a chance Master of Waves can take one final bow before disappearing off the standard stage for a long time, if not forever.

Creatures: [20]
4 Hypotic Siren
3 Mindreaver
4 Shorecrasher Elemental
2 Thassa, God of the Sea
4 Master of Waves
2 Icefalll Regent
1 Prognostic Sphinx

Non-Creature Spells: [13]
4 Anticipate
3 Silumgarr’s Scorn
2 Hall of Triumph
1 Bident of Thassa
2 Dig Through Time
1 Treasure Cruise

19 Island

So far, these are only 52 cards and no sideboard yet. For the last 8 cards, I am considering one more island, another two drop (Frost Stalker, Jeskai Sage, Omenspeaker, Stratus Dancer) or two and/or some more tricks to, among others, poteentially abuse Mindreaver for more than ‘just’ its two devotion and power.

For the sideboard, I have not started planning yet. Some counterspells and combat tricks, perhaps a Monastery Siege whatever it will take to fill holes and weaknesses in the deck.

Perhaps the Prognostic Sphinx should be a third Icefall Regent, but I want to test it first.

If you have any thoughts or comments, feel free to let me know.
