A major reason that many animal rights activists are getting pissed about the way Cecil’s death is talked about is that it should be part of a huge discussion.
Such a blatant act of violent disrespect towards an animal should have warranted public criticism of severe anthropocentrism. Or the unnecessary excessive cruelty billions of animals are subjected to daily. Or the widely held belief that other animals exist solely for the benefit of humans. Or the ever increasing threats to global biodiversity. Literally any way in which humans are encroach upon the animal kingdom’s right to exist should have been brought up and examined.
But instead people just called the dentist a scumbag and moved on with their lives, completely erasing any significance in Cecil’s murder.
