Revisiting an out of print classic, The Official Preppy Handbook (1980). A satirical jab at the New England WASP, this book was also partially responsible for the huge wave of collegiate preppy style that took over in the early 80’s (and the rise of the yuppie). Both a cool piece of cultural anthropology and a source of some solid design inspiration. 🐊
I am SO SICK of people telling us we’re wasting our lives on this stuff and that our generation and society is ‘brainwashed’ by TV. We learn from these books and movies so much more than school could ever teach us. I honestly would not be who I am today without these stories. Fiction can hold the greatest wisdom, if the story is good enough to make us feel and understand.
If we are allowed to breathe in school because breathing keeps us alive, then Why aren’t we allowed to listen to music in school if it keeps us sane and from throwing our desks at our teachers, or eat in class because we need food. Or even wear our hair or our clothes a certain way because we want to have confidence in ourselves. But schools don’t allows us to do any of that because it is a “distraction”, so basically they are saying don’t be yourself, just be who we tell you to be. No wonder people hate school, and are uncomfortable being their selves and are socially awkward. SO THANK YOU SCHOOL FOR RUINING OUR LIVES AND MAKING US WHO WE ARE NOT.
