schools not bombs

Jewish groups across the US receive bomb threats, forcing evacuations

  • Numerous Jewish community centers on the east coast received anonymous bomb threats via phone Monday, forcing evacuations and police responses.
  • Some of the calls were prerecorded while others were live, and likely came from the same telephone number.
  • NBC reported threats were made to facilities as far apart as New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Tennessee and South Carolina. In a statement, the Anti-Defamation League said threats were also received in Delaware.
  • Facilities across the county were evacuated, though authorities did not discover any explosive devices.
  • Jewish schools in London also received bomb threats, though it was not clear whether the incidents are connected. Read more
True Crime Books List

I’ve seen quite a lot of posts recently asking for tips about true crime books, so I decided to do a list with some of the books I’ve read lately. I didnt like all of these books, but most of them. I added a few books about 9/11 too, bc i found them interesting. So, in no particular order:

If I did it: confessions of the killer by O.J Simpson
How I helped O.J get away with murder by Mike Gilbert
A death in Belmont by Sebastian Junger (Boston strangler)
Restless Souls by Alisa Statman (Manson family)
The Bundy Murders by Kevin M. Sullivan
Chasing the devil by David Reichert (Green River Killer)
Fatal Vision by Joe McGinniss (Jeffrey MacDonald)
Ghettoside by Jill Leovy
The stranger beside me by Ann Rule (Ted Bundy)
The zebra murders by Prentice Earl Sanders
The serial killer files by Harold Schechter
Boston Strong by Casey Sherman (Boston Bombings)
The Devil’s Defender: My Odyssey Through American Criminal Justice from Ted Bundy to the Kandahar Massacre by John Henry Browne
No easy answers by Brooks Brown (Columbine)
The Spiral Notebook: The Aurora Theater Shooter and the Epidemic of Mass Violence Committed by American Youth by Stephen Singular
A mothers reckoning by Sue Klebold (Columbine)
The general by Ahmed Errachidi (Guantanamo)
Oklahoma City by Andrew Gumbel
102 minutes by Jim Dwyer, Kevin Flynn
Parkland by Vincent Bugliosi (JFK)
Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi (Charles Manson)
One of us by Åsne Seierstad (Breivik)

These are basically fiction, but I think most of them are worth reading:

Dear Charlie by N.D Gomes  (School shooting, just read it, its awesome.)
Give a boy a gun by Todd Strasser
Nineteen minutes by Jodi Picoult (School shooting, and its so fkn good)
House rules by Jodi Picoult
Finding jake by Bryan Reardon  (School shooting, also fkn awesome)

Short list of things my dad did in his highschool/college days

  1. bought an elephant for the principle
  2. built a wall in front of the principles office. Like an actual wall with bricks and stuff.
  3. hot-wired (?) the car of a teacher, parked it around the corner and put a broken fridge in the parking lot instead
  4. he and his friends stole somethingelse from a teacher and asked for beer and a chocolate cake as payment to give whatever they took. Maybe it was the car. I forgot.
  5. made a teacher cry with his fellow school mates by building a wall of chairs in the class room

and as a little addition stuff he didn’t do himself but which happend at his school;

  • people throwing firecrackers (is that a word) through windows during class
  • seniors taking all of the stuff from the younger students and putting it on trees with clothepins

Idk but shit was wild back then

Marvel...

We need to have some words.

As you may have noticed, a certain writer that is on your payroll has raised the ire of your fans.  Again.  The fans who buy your stuff.  The fans who love the characters that you are responsible for.  The fans who do not exist for you to insult and walk over time and time again.

Hydra!Cap was bad enough.  People were offended and horrified, even though we knew it was going to be just a cheap publicity stunt in the end.  You didn’t fool us, we knew it wasn’t going to be permanent.  But that doesn’t change the fact that you allowed your certain writer to spit on Jack Kirby and Joe Simon’s legacies as well as the fans who idolize the character and looked to him for comfort during a difficult time, insulted all of these people, for a juvenile attention grab.

Another blow was the removal of the Jewish heritage of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.  Why was this done?  Any reason?  Other than…I can’t even think of a reason other than pure idiocy.  What is even the hell.  It did not help matters at all that in the Age of Ultron film that these two characters were made into Hydra agents as well.

And speaking of.

Magneto.

…You done fucked up now.

Magneto is not only your most well-known Jewish character and a Holocaust survivor, but he is probably one of the most well known fictional Jewish Holocaust survivors in all of fiction.  He is someone who is intimately shaped by his Jewish heritage and by his horrific experiences during the Holocaust where his entire family was systematically murdered.  He is someone who made “Never Again” his mantra for life.  It is what drives him.  Although he has undeniably done terrible, even unforgivable, things, every decision he makes is driven by his desire to never allow what happened to him or his family to ever happen to anyone.  His trauma is what has driven him to hate humanity as a whole.

And who traumatized him?  Who murdered his family and his people and who tried to wipe out his culture?  Who does Magneto hate with every fiber of his being?  Who has he constructed himself to oppose?

The Nazis.  The same Nazis who, in your universe, created Hydra.  You’ve tried your best to whitewash Hydra and make it look cute what with Bob and everything, but your fans know better.  They are, and have always been, Nazis.

And you are having Magneto join them.

It doesn’t matter that it’s probably a stunt.  It doesn’t matter that if it’s not, it’s all going to be retconned away by the time my nail polish dries.  It doesn’t matter.

Do you know the world that you live in?  It is a world where anti-Semitism is on the rise.  It is a world where Jewish schools receive bomb threats and children live in fear.  It is a world where people genuinely are terrified that another Night of Broken Glass will happen or that Muslims and other marginalized groups are going to be carted away to camps.  It is a world where people with Nazi sentiments are in high positions of the US and other governments and are abusing their power.

You cannot do what you are doing in this world.

In the late 1930s and early 1940s when the world was bleak and hatred was festering in every part of the world and growing stronger, comic book writers and artists, many or even most of whom were Jewish, gave people heroes.  When the US had yet to enter WWII and the American Nazi party was large and growing, two Jewish men created a hero and draped him in the American flag and had him punch Hitler square in the face.  They kept writing this hero even as they received threats and the mayor of New York City had to step in to protect them.  Your distinguished competition created an immigrant from another world who used the traits of his homeland to fight injustice.  They created a woman who was stronger than any man and whose compassion was stronger than any hatred.  And you, in the 1960s, created a supposed villain who drove himself into becoming what he was so that what happened to him and his family would never be allowed to happen again.

Your certain writer thinks he’s being clever and commenting on the nature of the world today.  He is wrong.  We know the world is in a bad place.  We know how scary things are.  We know corruption looms everywhere and that hate is omnipresent.  We live on planet Earth.  We’ve seen this shit first hand.  We don’t need to be told this.

We need heroes.  We need to be told that it is possible to fight this evil.  We need to be told that there is hope.  That the future is bright if we work hard.  Even if one of those heroes is a villain half the time, we need them.  We don’t need you erasing these people’s identities, even for a second.

And it you won’t give us what we need, we will give it to ourselves.  Fan culture is stronger now than it has ever been.  If you won’t treat your characters and most importantly your FANS with respect, we will do it for ourselves.  We do not need you.  But you need us.  And you need to remember that.

Newspapers and their articles about some of the biggest tragedies and events on history that happened in the same month: April.

Many mass shootings and massacres had took place in this month, between other several events like Hitler’s birthday/death, bombings, genocides and Lincon and Martin Luther King’s murder. “April has historically been a whole month of assassination, mass murder and mayhem.” and why this specific month?, this could be the explanation: “Some experts say that April is a time of change that can trigger a disturbed mind to act out. The sudden increase in light this time of year can drive people with certain mental illnesses to manic behavior, some said", “Spring, like medication, can bring them out of the winter’s depression". If is true that the change of season or month can depress more the people and provoke or get worse a mental illness, specially if these incidents are in some way related or influenced by each other (most of the school shootings of this month, are influenced by  the Columbine high school massacre and the Columbine shooters mentioned in their diaries such events like the Oklahoma City bombing that took place in April too. Something thatcan  be another fact of why all these events happend in this month). There is still not enough proofs that can substantiate this. But whatever happen in April and whatever this month can cause in people’s brain, in April,  almost every year, happen something…

An excerpt from an audiotape recorded by 18-year-old Ryan Schallenberger explaining the reason he planned to bomb his high school in Chesterfield, South Carolina. His parents turned him in after several pounds of ammonium nitrate was delivered to their house, and a search of his room revealed a journal, where he detailed the attack plans over the course of year. Schallenberger pleaded guilty to federal explosive-related charges and received 10 years imprisonment.

israel bombed gaza’s zoo today.  no, hamas wasn’t there.

israel has bombed hospitals.  no, hamas wasn’t there.

israel has bombed schools.  no, hamas wasn’t there.

israel has bombed apartments, homes, and the streets.  israel has bombed the beaches.  israel has put out snipers to shoot at fleeing women and children and men.

israel is an apartheid state.

hamas doesn’t exist in a vaccuum. israel created hamas.  without israeli oppression and occupation and apartheid, there would be no hamas.

wonder woman wouldn’t stand for any of this shit.  you are not right, gal gadot, and israel.  you are not right, and you will not overcome.  you will never overcome.

Guys. GUYS!!!!

So EverythingGeek have just had a podcast with Art and Doug, and someone created a summup on Berk’s Grapevine!!!

SPOILERS AHEAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

First a couple of episode names:

Gruff Around the Edges - very comedic, focuses on Gruffnut (who is most likely the Tuffnut-lookalike from the trailer!)
Twintuition - the twins think they have developed psychic powers and start predicting the actions of the others
Dire Straits - introduces the Submaripper
Gold Rush - the dragon riders work to get back Berk’s gold
The Longest Day - takes place on the week of midnight sun, when the sun doesn’t set for an entire week, which means we get to see the riders very sleep-deprived; this is also the same episode where Hiccup and Toothless are stranded together on an island and cornered by a new dragon
Midnight Scrum - focuses on several different villains all trying to hunt Hiccup down
Shell Shocked - introduces the Shellfire (or Shell Fire?) dragon and sounds like it’s going to be a two-parter

And then they also talked about the Dragon Eye for a bit, and mentioned that the way the dragon riders find it again is going to be very unique.

Futher more:

-the dragon Hiccup and Toothless meet when they’re stranded on the island is huge, and carries other dragons on its wings
-we can look forward to “a first” with Hiccup and Astrid, taking place in an episode called Blindsided (I think that’s what they said, the connection was a bit choppy) that’s the third to last episode in the season and they say it’s well worth the wait
-new species called Fire Terrors that live on Defenders of the Wing island
-the Triple Stryke will be returning
